It’s been a pretty good start to the New Year:)

Exercise:

I started the day by going to a yoga class in Ajo. I used to do yoga three times a week and was super flexible, however, it’s been about fifteen years. I was a little worried about how it would go. I needn’t have worried! There were about fifteen women there for this “gentle” yoga class. It felt great to do yoga again, though I obviously need to do it more as boy are my hamstrings tight! I’m going to try to set up the yoga channel for my mom before I leave and I will definitely be looking forward to the athletic yoga I’ll be starting with a friend in January.

I got a quick walk in where I did a 100 yards of high knees skipping.

I also got a 25 minute workout in this afternoon during my parent’s happy hour. I didn’t feel as though this one was as tough, but I was able to do more abs work than previously:). I did: 50 front kicks, 50 side kicks, 50 back kicks, 50 curtsy lunges, 50 plié squats, 50 squats, 50 push-ups, 25 dips, 25 overhead press, 50 bicep curls, 50 leg drops, 50 oblique crunches, 25 crunches.

It’s amazing that I’ve been feeling flabby all day since I didn’t go for a run today. It doesn’t help that there’s chips in this household! I have great self control as long as it’s not tested🤣

Eating:

Other than the chips I am back to eating much healthier. I’ve been enjoying my salads and veggies:)
Tomorrow I hope to make the sticky buns for my dad!

Reading:

I started Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck, but haven’t gotten far enough to discuss it.

I was asked last night by a lovely lady from Wisconsin to make her a toque like mine. I measured her head and casted on, but haven’t gotten far.

I heard about knitmeter from a fellow blogger and rushed to the site to sign up as it sounds so cool to be able to know how many miles of yarn I have knitted. I signed up but it hasn’t sent me an activation code yet:(. I hope I get it soon!

So what have I done with my day? A jigsaw puzzle! It’s my family’s tradition to do a puzzle on New Year’s Eve but this year it got pushed to New Years Day. It’s a tough Alfred Hitchcock puzzle that does not come with a picture😫😳. I have learned that I am a very visual person! This is definitely not accomplishing anything!! If anyone is wondering where I get this need to be busy all the time- here’s a clue:) My dad is retired and in the middle of nowhere and he’s still making chairs, tables, etc out of things he finds in the desert. I definitely get this honestly🤣 though I’m not nearly as creative as he is!

Movies:

I did remember to go looking for the Murder She Baked movies. . I have enjoyed three of these now. The Chocolate Chip Murder, the Plum Pudding Mystery, the Peach Cobbler Murder and I am on the Deadly Recipe movie now. I would recommend these movies to anyone who enjoys cosy mysteries. I’ve read all of these books by Joanne Fluke because my dad loves the recipes, and the movies have been just as good!

Goals:

I’ve been reading lots of blog posts on goals for 2018 and for the first time I am not going to make any resolutions. I will try to live life to the fullest and do the things I love to do. This blog already gets me to do a lot more things than I used to do:). I wish everyone else luck with their goals though!

Have fun!

AJ

  1. Great post! If you enjoy yoga, you would probably really like Jazzercise. Ever heard of it? Trust me, it’s not your grandmas 80’s workout. No leg warmers, and no leotards.😆

    Happy New Year!!

    -Bekah❤️

    1. Yup I’ve heard of jazzercise, but have never done it. I’ll be doing athletic yoga come January and that’s probably enough for now, but maybe after.

  2. That’s an awesome workout! I love yoga. I tried a class but it was supposed to be for beginners and the instructor said not enough people signed up so it would be an advanced class. I never tried again except at home on my own!

  3. Your dad’s work is awesome. My dad has always made things with wood so i have a great appreciation of it.
Jigsaw puzzling is also occurring here. Perfect time for them.
    Bye for now 🌹🌻🌼❤

    1. Yup my dad has been known to dabble in anything and everything. He used to make sculptures out of his truck parts that were amazing!

  4. Wow – what a great start to the year. Jan 1 was a rest day but I will be back on the bike today. Indoors, of course. Extreme cold warnings here mean I won’t be running outdoors – probably not until I get back from India at the end of February.

Good job for getting back to eating – especially looking at the “Glazed Murder” cover several times a day. I just saw it once and were it not so cold I might already be on my way to Timmy’s

    1. Eating *well* I should say! I’m still working on that as well. Let’s just say that yesterday was a “rest day” from eating well as well as exercise for me.

    2. Thank you! I’ll make something sweet today but for some reason I am way better at keeping myself to one sweet than to one chip!!
I hope your ride goes well today. I’m trying to absorb all the warmth I can before I have to go home to the cold!

      1. I hear you. I do virtual cycling, though, using Zwift and a smart trainer. So no matter what I’ll be very warm. Added bonus is that there will be no traffic or black ice to contend with.

      2. Oh that sounds great! I know my Sunday morning run is going to be a shock after running in the desert for the past two weeks!

      3. It’s a balmy -8C here but it feels like -14. I’ve run in this before and it is OK as long as you don’t think too much during the first 1 to 1.5 km and then NEVER STOP. Friday night we’re set to see -26, though. I may stay inside for most of that!

    1. Yup I’m pretty good at the running and working out routine, but now need to figure out when to add in yoga after this class is over.

  5. Would you stop making me feel guilty !!! Haahaaaa I’m just kidding. I actually started out the morning with a vegetarian meal. Good job on the New Year start!! 😀

      1. Okay then I don’t feel so bad haahaa but seriously you are motivating me each day so keep posting 😀

  6. Knitmeter sounds super cool! Do you know how it works? Like all of my yarn was open and used before I was given it. So I don’t know what I started with.
That puzzle is enormously huge and I feel overwhelmed just looking at it!
Glad to hear yoga went well! I am so tight as well. I just have to start stretching again.

    1. No I don’t know how knitmeter works yet because I still haven’t gotten an email from them:(. Most of my yarn is open too so I’m not sure it will work with that, but I have some that’s still packaged so I’ll try it with that.
The puzzle is coming along slowly but it is very frustrating to me not to have a picture. You start working on something and have no idea what it is!
Yup I’m hoping the yoga class I signed up for will help and then I’ll have to figure out when to do it in my own too. It felt good to do it again:)

  7. Happy new year AJ! You have been doing a whole lot it seems and it is fantastic that your dad is so talented with his carpentry. And that Hitchcock puzzle sounds too tempting. When I get back home I shall have to look up that one 🙂 xx

    1. Ya my dad is super creative, as is the rest of that side of the family!
I found the puzzle so tough because it had no picture! But when you’re done you use it to solve the mystery which was cool!
Happy New Year to you too!

      1. That is a brilliant idea of a puzzle. But how on earth do you solve it without a picture to accompany it. I bet it would require you to puzzle over it for weeks. Or have you cracked it already?

      2. We did the puzzle in two days, but not much else got done😂. It was just a matter of using colour and shape, but it was tough!

    1. Lol not quite up to an ultra yet! You’re safe from a visit for at least a year or two:) I do need to do a race this year though!
