Nephews

My day has been pretty good:)

Exercise:

Got out for a run at Burnaby Lake this morning. It was supposed to be forty five minutes, but was only forty. I was actually lucky to get that much time in as it was super windy here this morning. We weren’t sure how safe it really was to run through the forest, and we actually saw a tree fall down as we were getting into our cars to leave! I really want to be able to run around this entire lake one day!!!

I didn’t get a chance to workout again today as I’m actually still at my brother’s place hanging out with my nephew and fur nephew. I didn’t know I would be here this long, but I have to enjoy it as I know the day will come when he won’t want me hanging out with him:(

Knitting:

I’m down to the row where I get to divide for the body and sleeves. It seems that my nephew is okay with me being on my phone, but not knitting so that might be it for tonight:(

Eating:

I tried the frozen burrito for lunch that I bought last Monday. I had never seen one that was gluten free and dairy free. I have to say that I wasn’t super impressed. It didn’t have a lot of taste:(. Maybe salsa and sour cream would have helped. I was thinking it would be nice to have some meals ready in the freezer, but if this is what they are like, I think I’ll just make some from scratch and put them in my freezer.

Movies:

I caved and watched more Hallmark Christmas movies today. I watched Enchanted Christmas which might win the award for worst acting yet!! I also watched Miss Christmas which was very cute!

Family:

I’ve been hanging out with my nephew and Mr. Banks since 1pm as my brother and sister in law are at a funeral. They’re representing the family and I’m hanging out. I definitely got the better end of the deal!

We went to Wendy’s for lunch. I watched him eat junk food and now for dinner he’s trying to make me feel guilty for not taking him for pizza or subway. I already feel bad taking him for junk food once!

I should have arranged something for us to do, like a movie, but I’ll remember that for next time.

Well I guess that’s it for my quiet Sunday!

Have fun!

Fantastic Bake Along- Mary Berry Gingersnap Edition

I’ve had a pretty good day:)

Exercise:

I actually couldn’t go for a run today because my shoes are still drying from yesterday! Of course this just made me want to go for a run even more!!

I got a workout in this afternoon. I did each of the following exercises for 50 seconds with a ten second rest and repeated each twice.

Shuffle squat, plank butt kick, sprint, jumping jack with dumbbell press, back lunge with front kick, high knees, sumo squat to narrow squat with bicep curl, fast feet, moguls, front lunge with dumbbell press, twisting mountain climbers, dumbbell reach with curtsy lunge, single leg bench squat, squat, narrow squat, sumo squat, plie squat, dips, roll ups, v ups, bicycles, oblique crunches. I was a sweaty mess by the end, but felt great:)

Baking:

Once again I am participating in the Fantastic Bake Along which is hosted by Traci at It’s a T Sweets Day. I was just starting to wonder when the next one would be and along it came. I’ve been craving ginger snaps so this one had perfect timing! I also love that it tells me what to bake:)

The recipe was a little different for me as it was all in grams, but I just pulled my food scale out and got to work:) It was great to use it again as it’s been a while.

The recipe can be found Here:). It was super easy to put together and it was such a lovely dough to work with! Literally it was four steps- put butter and syrup together and melt, put dry ingredients together, mix the two, put onto cookie sheet. How easy can it be?!?! The dough wasn’t sticky or heavy and I used my ice cream scoop to put it onto the cookie sheet so the cookies actually look pretty too! My cookies only took 12.5 minutes to bake though! They come out crisp and are a perfect dipping cookie!! I of course made them gluten free using a mixture of potato starch, xantham gum, white rice flour, sorghum flour, buckwheat flour and millet flour. I also used earth balance butter substitute. I really don’t think these made any difference to how they taste as they are yummy! My mom is going to be upset she missed them. They even remind me of the ginger snaps my grandma used to have in the cookie jar when I was little.

I’m sorry I have to cheat a bit, but I’m on a phone, so I’m going to use a picture to show you who else participates in the Fantastic Bake Along! Please check them out:)

Shopping:

I took my friend Kathryn to the ULS book sale first thing this morning. It was a bit of a wash for me as the picture book section of their big sale was gone the first day, but Kathryn had some success! There were of course books I wanted for my teaching, but I’m trying to behave myself! I also found a cookbook I liked and I’m now kicking myself for not buying it while it was 30% off!

I was supposed to take Kathryn her Christmas present but it only made it as far as the counter. I’ll have to make sure I see her again! She, of course, being the incredibly organized person she is, remembered mine.

A gorgeous agenda that I will enjoy every day for the next year! I was spoiled! I absolutely love the front cover and I know I’ll have fun setting it up later tonight:)

Reading:

I’ve been listening to Wives and Daughters on Librivox as I was knitting today. I just can’t shake the feeling that I’ve either seen this as a movie or read the book as it seems extremely familiar. I just can’t place from where and it’s driving me crazy! I’ve stuck with it as I want wifi to download another book. Maybe I’ll do that at coffee tomorrow.

I’ve also started my free ARC of Baby It’s Cold Outside by Kait Nolan. I’ve read all of her books and have enjoyed them. I’m only 20% done so far, but it’s already grabbed me more than the book I have been slogging through.

Knitting:

I got to start my new project today and it feels great to be using up yarn that I bought last year and to be working on a sweater!!!😀. It’s going well so far, though it did lead to some naughtiness.

I had to go buy new needles as the needles I needed were already in use for other projects. I decided to support my local yarn shop which was probably my mistake. I’m good at ignoring things in Michaels and Walmart, but my LYS has an amazing sale bin- 50% off!!!!! I got the three sets of needles which were expensive enough, but then I also picked up six more skeins of yarn. Don’t tell my mom or knitting buddy please!!!!!

I did manage to resist the silk yarn as there was only 240meters and I’m trying to avoid making more cowls this year!

I also got two more yarns into my Ravelry stash today:). I’m moving right along. My dream would be to have all of my yarn in my Ravelry stash and know exactly how many balls/skeins I have. I know I would be motivated to see the total go down, but I have so much yarn that I think this might just be a pipe dream:(

Well I’m up to knitting stockinette in the round so I’m going to throw on a Hallmark movie and get back to my knitting:)

Have fun!

AJ

Good, Better, Grrrr, Best

It was a fine morning, tough afternoon and lovely evening:)

Exercise:

I got up early this morning and did a workout from Pizza & Pullups. It was great- took very little time and yet still felt like a workout! Thank you:).

After work I got out for a run with my friend Brenda. She was my regular running buddy, but her feet are bothering her so I haven’t been out with her in quite a while. She walked and I regularly looped back to her, which of course caused Runkeeper to go wonky:(. I don’t know why this app seems to be so finicky with me:(. Between the finicky app and the fact I’d have been better off with webbed feet in today’s weather, it wasn’t my best run ever, but I went😀.

Teaching:

This morning went fine. I actually had time to rearrange a couple of boxes in my classroom library that were causing the children grief:) and we got our calendar and spelling practice done.

After recess I took the opportunity to read the children the book, My Mouth is a Volcano. It is all about interrupting and how awful it feels and how rude it is. I liked that it gave the children a strategy to stop this behaviour while still recognizing that they want to share their thoughts. The children said they liked it because they found it funny. I haven’t decided if this is going to help them remember the lesson, or if they didn’t really “get” the lesson😫.

We got some addition done and the children had the fun of another math game.

Lyndsay asked if I wanted to hit Starbucks at lunch as she had forgotten her lunch (I only got tea as I had eaten my curry). Of course after a nice quiet week of being principal, the problem occurred while we were both out of the building. I’ll never make that mistake again. Thankfully it was only about two minutes until I was back, but I felt bad for not thinking about both of us being gone. Of course it was with one of my little boys, mooning the other children:(. What is it with my children and nudity this year???!!! I spoke to him, emailed his mom, and he will be spending Monday’s lunch playtime walking with the education assistant, rather than playing. Hopefully between that consequence at school and a consequence at home, he will get the message not to do this!!!

This afternoon was tougher, but we survived and created really cute art!

I love working with pastels with the children because they are so bold and they can cover up their mistakes. I also love directed drawing activities!! They always end up so cute and the children listen and are engaged during them. I think it helps that they get to move back and forth to their desk frequently to do the steps so they don’t ever have to sit for very long.

Tea:

I took a David’s Tea Gogi Green to school today but have to admit I still haven’t gotten around to drinking it. I did make tea for knit night which was David’s Tea Forever Nuts. I have probably mentioned it before because it is my favourite David’s Tea!! It has beet in it so it comes out pink and is quite sweet and nutty. I absolutely love it!!

Socializing:

I didn’t just get a rainy run with Brenda, but also got to go for Pho with her. We used to do this regularly after cold, wet runs, but this was our first time this season. I love hot steaming soup after a winter run, though I should probably branch out and try something other than the seafood with rice noodles. This is the only place where I always order the same thing. They really need a size smaller than small though! I wonder if they would give me the kids size??

Shopping:

I also took the opportunity to pop into Chapters to return the reading socks I was lucky enough to receive as a gift, but that were unfortunately too big for me:( I now have $36 to spend at Chapters! Oh what to buy?? Half the fun is thinking about what I could buy.., cookbook, knitting book,🤔. Oh the possibilities!😀

Knitting:

Well the bad news is that the Entrelac scarf had to be ripped out because it turned out I had twisted it:(. I’m okay with it though because for the amount of work I was putting into it, I’d like to use yarn that will show the pattern well. I will try Entrelac again, but not right away. I got a dishcloth made with a textured pattern during knit night tonight. I have never made this type of design, but so loved it!! I followed the pattern “Purple Heart knit motif” off of Ravelry. I have also entered the project into the second quidditch match on HPKCHC as it was something I had never done before. I hope it satisfies the requirements as I have made a dishcloth before, just not this design. Brenda gave me the good idea of giving them for valentines gifts so I will try to make one more before then so I can give one to Brenda and one to Kathryn. They both craft and so will appreciate it.

I have chosen my next project and was all ready to start it, but the needles I need are being used for my temperature scarf so now I have to wait until tomorrow when I can buy another set of needles in 3.75mm:(. Brenda has convinced me to spend the rest of tonight actually checking my gauge- something I have never done before!!🤣

Reading:

I got through another few chapters of my current novel. However, I received an ARC today from an author I really enjoy, so I know that I’m going to drop the novel to read the ARC. At least I’ll enjoy it and it will hopefully put me back on track for my reading goal.

Well I’m off to knit a gauge swatch, lol how exciting for a Friday night😂

Have fun!AJ

Waiting, Waiting

I spent the day nervous and it turned out not to be necessary.

Exercise:

I didn’t get up early this morning as the sun is still not rising until 7:58! I just assumed I’d only do one thing today, but amazingly I got out of work early enough that the sun was still up and I could get out for a run in daylight!!!😀😀. It felt great!! My Runkeeper program was driving me crazy though. It was telling me I was doing a 5:55 km, but I think it was just because a text came in as when I stopped, the program said I was doing a 6:07. Everything seems to affect this app:( and then my phone died so I couldn’t even get a picture of the beautiful, sunny day to show you! It was eight degrees when I was out running today:) Still it was so nice to be out in daylight with music and no rain!!!

I also went to athletic yoga again this week. It was even better than last week because I knew what to expect! It’s quite the workout for my arms and core so that’s great!! You get into a yoga position and then you do weights while holding the position. Some of them were quite the challenge!

Teaching:

I spent the day worrying about whether having to sit out five minutes of gym was going to set my behaviour boy off again, but it didn’t! I guess I worried all day for no reason😏.

We did printing, a friendship song, adding using a number line, computers, gym and brainstorming community jobs. One of the children told me this morning that that wasn’t a lot of work for the day. I’m glad they think that way!

Our math was fun today as we had turkey races along a number line. Roll the die and move that many spaces to the left while saying the addition equation. It was awesome to see them all having so much fun! One little guy came up to me after and said, “thanks for letting us play instead of doing math”. Yes! I have succeeded:)

It was a busy day at work as I was once again acting principal, but not a bad day. I am looking forward to the fact that tomorrow is Friday!

Tea:

I had David’s Tea Hot Chocolate tea and I didn’t drink any of it. I am not a fan of chocolate so this tea just wasn’t for me:(

Knitting:

This morning I sat down to do one square on my Entrelac Cowl and suddenly I looked up and it was time to go to work!! I do t know where the time went.

I wanted to work some more on my Cowl tonight, but I had to tidy my house as knit night is at my place tomorrow night. For a change I got stuff done that needed to be done- sweeping, cleaning, dishes, bathrooms, etc. I love having a clean house, unfortunately I like doing my hobbies more so it rarely happens. The place is always tidy, but not necessarily clean.🤣

Reading:

I’m still reading the same chick lit, All Out of Love by Lori Wilde . It’s taking forever because it hasn’t really grabbed me. I did read for the first half of my lunch hour this week and it was lovely! What a nice break to the day! I’ll have to keep it up and hopefully it will also help me get back on track for my Goodreads goal. Can you tell that being told I’m behind bothers me?😂

Well that’s it for me tonight!

Have fun!

AJ

Read, Watch, Read

I was going along fine and then one five minute incident coloured the rest of my day:(

Exercise:

I did bootcamp after school today. I started with a pretty bad attitude as “the incident” had just happened, but I ended feeling much better! Today we did: travelling pop jacks, swing lunges, stability ball hamstring curls and knee tucks, lateral bench hopovers, bird dogs, hip dips, decline mountain climbers, chin ups, weighted power jacks, ISO squat triceps extensions, v ups, ISO squat shoulder press, hop pulses, and two other exercises that I’ve blocked from my mind. We got a break today and only had twenty second tabatas- wow does that ten seconds make a difference! I can do anything for twenty seconds:)

Teaching:

We started writer’s workshop today! This is where students can write about absolutely anything! We will do this once a week and each time there will be a mini lesson to teach a skill and then writing time. Today we talked about drawing a picture first and then writing about the picture to give us ideas and to keep us on track. Most of the students did fabulous, and it was interesting that the student who had difficulty was a very bright boy. In the other class it was a very bright girl. I guess they both have trouble with open-ended activities. We all survived though so it’s ok:)

Math was more addition, with the wrong worksheet. Ugh, somedays … 🎼if only I had a brain🎼!

I had an extra prep at the end of the day with three things on my list to accomplish while the TOC took the children to gymnastics in the gym. Unfortunately, I only got 1.5 done before I got called to the gym:(. Two of my boys were arguing over equipment. One boy made the right choice and just walked away to do something else, the other boy climbed under a bench and started to cry. Grrr, I yet again got called in to deal with it. I took the boy back to class with me and said he will miss five minutes of gymnastics tomorrow as a consequence for his actions. I just hope it doesn’t set him off again! It was interesting to see that he was up on his tiptoes when I was talking to him. So far, he’s done this with three different teachers who aren’t me- he’s obviously smart enough to test new teachers to see who he can get away with stuff with!

Whenever I’m dealing with behaviour though, I always wonder if I’m doing the right thing? This definitely was a downer:(

Tea: My tea today was David’s Tea Melon Drop. It looked good enough to eat! Yet again I didn’t get around to drinking it until after lunch. It was still good and not bitter at all. It does have a VERY strong melon taste, so if you don’t like melon, definitely don’t pick it up!

Oh and I actually got 2L of water drunk today:) Hopefully this will help repair my lip!

Reading:

I am working on my next book, though I have to admit that so far it hasn’t grabbed me:(. Goodreads is also telling me that I am a book behind in my reading challenge progress for the year:(

Knitting:

So I finished my base triangles in the Entrelac Cowl today and had to start on the next row. I really didn’t get the instructions so I took NothingbutKnit2’s advice and watched a YouTube video. I then had to go back and read the instructions again. This flip flop happened several times. I think I’ve gotten it and I just have to hope I’ll still remember by tomorrow when I finish the round. So far Chris you are right, I am enjoying it, though it certainly took perseverance to keep working on it tonight and not just sit down, give up and cry!

Baking:

I really wanted to make Maureen’s energy balls tonight, but I forced myself to persevere on the Entrelac so they will have to wait until tomorrow:(

Well, I’m going to crawl into bed and get some sleep! All evening I have thought it was Thursday so I thought I’ll sleep until it is Thursday!

Have fun!

AJ

Keep Going

A pretty good day, though all I could think during my run was, keep going!

Exercise:

While it wasn’t as early as I had planned, I did get my butt out of bed to do some weights this morning. Due to what my mom had mentioned lately, I did all upper body.  It consisted of tricep extensions, shoulder press, front raises, bicep curls, rows, reverse flies, and pushups.  Two sets back to back did me in. It didn’t take long and I have to admit it was nice to be up early enough that I wasn’t rushed, even with exercising:)

I went to run clinic tonight kind of hoping it was hills so that I could bow out and just go do an easy run on my own, but it was intervals so I had to stay. We ended up doing 4 x 850m and did them in 4:57, 4:37, 4:34, 4:20 and those are minutes per round, not pace!!🤣. I was just glad I completed it and wasn’t sick!

Teaching:

One of the little boys in my class brought me a muffin today. When I said I couldn’t have it, he said, “oh no we made this one safe for you to eat” and then stood there to watch me eat it. I tried several different lines but ended up eating it, and no it wasn’t safe for me to eat:(

First thing this morning I unloaded all the new paper supplies into the art room! It looks improved now and even better, there might actually be paper to do an art lesson with the class!!!

The other grade one class joined us today for social studies where we were brainstorming the places in a community. OMG- I’ve never had children do this well in sixteen years of teaching! Maybe we don’t need to teach this unit as they seem to know all about it!! It was very impressive and they were super engaged for forty five minutes!!! We finally had to stop when we had filled every speck of space on two large chart papers. It was super neat to see. I had to laugh at the little guy who contributed “the Well”. It’s the local pub:) I thought in my head, “I know where your dad likes to hang out”🤣🤣🤣. Remember you have no secrets from the teacher, muhahaha🤣

The best part of my teaching day happened at lunch when the woman came to pick up the Saje set I sold on Facebook. I got $20!! I’m rich!! 😂

Shopping:

Of course I also ordered shoes this morning as I got notice that it was free shipping. In case anyone has been wondering, I have to order my shoes in order to get something that doesn’t light up when I walk or have Barbie on it. I ordered brown boots to replace the ones I have worn to death and some black pumps as my current ones are now too big for me. I liked losing weight, but it really didn’t need to come off my feet!! I had them shipped to my parents so I won’t get them for a few months:(

Tea:

My tea today was the David’s Tea “Just Peachy”.  I didn’t get to drinking it until after lunch today, and it was still delicious!  It didn’t taste bitter and didn’t require milk or sugar. It is quite sweet all by itself. I would definitely recommend this tea! I am loving the fact that I am almost done an entire container of teas:)

Reading:

It is so nice to have read a book in two days again! That’s always been my usual so I don’t know why everything has been taking me so long in 2018!

This book, Just My Luck tells the story of Benny who is a fourth grader who feels like he is not good at anything. His dad has had serious health issues which has changed life at home and his teacher is acting strange which has changed life at school. Will he survive the fourth grade.

I liked how this book had an excellent pace. There was no point at which I felt like it was dragging. It also dealt with major issues in a manner that was realistic and yet sensitive to who the book’s readers would be. It is told from Benny’s point of view so you hear his thoughts on his father’s illness and his teacher’s problems and on his big brother who is autistic. It was excellent at dealing fairly and realistically with all of these without letting it take over the book or bog it down. It still felt like a positive book!

I would recommend this book for any child between the ages of eight and eleven. It also would make a good read aloud I think.

Knitting:

HPKCHC has a Quidditch match challenge right now that requires you to try something new. I guess it’s a good thing that I joined this as I avoid doing new things sometimes. I have decided to try entrelac as I love what it looks like! I have found a Cowl called Entrelac Made Easy. Wish me luck! So far I have managed to cast on and knit a row, but we’ll see how it goes from here😳

I’m not letting myself watch movies tonight so I guess I have to tackle this entrelac scarf!

Have fun!

AJ

Of Course!

A day off that turned out to be busy!

Exercise:

I was off for an appointment today so I actually got to go for a run in the daylight which meant with music too! It was a lovely day because the sun was just starting to burn off the fog. My run was nothing spectacular- just my usual thirty minute loop around the park. It just felt so wonderful to be out in daylight!

I also got a workout in this evening, mostly because I would like the scale to move a bit tomorrow! I did two minutes of skipping between each set and did each set twice.

Set 1: front raises, squats, bicycles

Set 2: rows, lateral hops, v ups, back extensions

Set 3: plank, right plank, left plank, reverse plank

It did feel good once I was done to have done it:)

Cooking:

Yesterday I read about blueberry pancakes on Emma’s blog and decided that I should try them out today as I had blueberries and I’ve been craving pancakes. I got busy this morning after my shower. They were quite easy to make, though I had to sub in Gluten Free flour, but that was the only change I made to this Recipe. Mine definitely aren’t as pretty as Emma’s, but they taste pretty good and the recipe made enough for a recess snack each day this week in addition to the three I ate today (breakfast, recess and lunch)🤣

I also finally got around to making the curry I wanted to make for this week. I am trying really hard to make one real recipe each week. I am definitely a snacker, so usually I just eat veggies and hummus or something on cucumbers. I had been wanting curry and decided to try the one from my Oh She Glows recipe book as it always looks so good. I couldn’t find the recipe on the Oh She Glows website, but I found it Here. It was super simple, though I would suggest having all the veggies chopped in advance! The only change I made was to use my almond milk instead of soaking cashews because I was much later getting home that I expected.

Appointment:

So I finally got in to see a dermatologist after waiting for a year! Of course, she could not find a thing on the bottom of my feet! They have not looked this good in three years!!! We figure it was probably my big dose of antibiotics before Christmas that cleared everything up. It’s a good thing I got some of my book read while waiting as that was a complete waste of time! We spent more time discussing her daughter going to kindergarten than discussing my feet😂

Shopping:

I decided to try out the Buy Low supermarket that was in the building I parked in. It was so quiet. All I could think was how nice it would be to always be able to shop during off hours. The store seemed quite nice and had two products that I hadn’t seen before so I bought them, but otherwise stuck to my list:)

I liked their sign at the front of the store best!

I also bought gas out at Costco today which is what made me late getting home. I did figure out how to stretch my calf while I was standing at the pump:) I love being able to multitask! An expensive day off between these two stops!

Socializing:

I managed to sneak in a visit to my friend Anna and her son today since I was off. It was perfect timing as her c-section for baby number two is booked for next week, but she had a few contractions last night😳. Her parents are leaving tomorrow for a prebooked holiday and her mother in law doesn’t arrive until Saturday so I’m on call for Ruben sitting if she goes into labour early! We had a quiet, but lovely day. Took Ruben for a walk and to play outside:) Once again I have to be thankful to have such an amazing friend in my life! We both couldn’t stop saying what a beautiful day it was- felt like spring!

I also managed to sneak in a visit to my nephew this afternoon. It just felt like it had been way too long since I saw him!! He showed me his new scooter that he got for Christmas. It appears that was the best present!!! I love seeing him and am already looking forward to Sunday when I’ll get to hang out with him, and his crazy little guy, again!

Movies:

Last night I watched The Christmas Cottage which was very cute, but somewhat confusing. They really should have made the previous relationship clear!!

Tonight I have watched Christmas in Evergreen. What I liked best about this movie were the “storybook pictures”. Looks like where I want to live!

Well I have to behave and go to bed early tonight as I actually have to get up before the sun tomorrow morning! It was lovely to wake up naturally this morning!!!

Have fun!

AJ

Nibble Here, Nibble There, Nibble Everywhere!

I am so full!!!!

Exercise:

I was starving when I got up this morning and so had a piece of toast and peanut butter. This turned out to be a mistake as I think my body was busy digesting instead of running! I managed to eek out forty minutes in the fog, but it was pretty painful at times! It was my last time for a while having Dennis for company as he is off to a 10km clinic. Lol I don’t know why he’s doing this particular clinic as he can run 10km fast in his sleep, but I hope he has fun. I guess I had better find myself a good pair of headphones quick!

I’ve been completely lazy and have done nothing else exercise wise today:(

Special Event:

I spent a large chunk of today at the Gluten Free Expo Downtown. I convinced my friend Kathryn to come along and it was fun! As I was texting to meet up with her on the skytrain I felt like a kid again. I didn’t do this type of meetup to go downtown as a kid, so I guess I’m reversing it and doing it as an adult. 😂

The expo was held at the convention centre and was huge!! We were not sure we would make it through, but we persevered! 😜There were tons of samples, and even with the fact I couldn’t eat them all because some had dairy, I was incredibly full by the end! I actually haven’t eaten since! There were also tons of freebies which I completely took advantage of. I’ll be sure to write about what I think of the products as I use them. Maybe I don’t have to go grocery shopping this week😂

I did notice that the booths with no samples were noticeably quieter! There were 140 different exhibitors and I managed to visit all of them! The Kinnikinnick Foods and WiseBites booths won me over for being the sweetest people!!! They had yummy things too! The Solo Bar booth got me excited by the news that they are coming out with a vegan bar. My running buddies rave about these bars, but at this point they all have dairy. The Lonetree Cider was very delicious and I will definitely be picking up the Nuun Active line for when I am running! There are tarts in Duncan on Vancouver Island that I may make a four hour trip just to have, and the Sweet Medley flavour of Terra Chips were to die for!!! I came home with lots of new favourites and lots of coupons. I was amazed to learn that there are actually two meal delivery services that cater to allergy sufferers, though one doesn’t quite deliver to my area yet:(. I also learned there is a restaurant in town where I can eat absolutely everything on the menu!!!! I can’t wait to go try it!!

The most amazing part was that I bought nothing … because I didn’t want to carry it all around! I saw some people wheeling coolers around and thought that that was an excellent idea! Overall it was a fun and informative day:)

It probably helped that it was an absolutely beautiful day by the convention centre in comparison to the deep fog we’ve had all day here at home. I took two pictures to show you:)

Knitting:

I managed to finish my Cowl today. I have to thank the blogger who wrote about how to measure out the amount of yarn you will need to complete a row. I wish I could remember who it was, but the trick worked great!! I had just the right amount left. It is currently blocking and I’m hoping to enter it into HPKCHC tomorrow.

I took Chris’ advice and blocked it, hoping that it will hang nicely, though I’m already happier with it than the previous Cowl.

I think my next project may be an entrelac circular scarf, though after that I definitely want to get into something bigger. My next afghan will have to wait until my mom comes home and picks her yarn, but maybe some sort of sweater:)

Blogging:

I learn so many cool things reading blogs, but then I can never get back to them or remember who said what so I can link to them. If anyone has suggestions for how they deal with this problem, please let me know! I’ve decided just to ask you all my crazy questions as your advice so often works! I took Maureen’s advice and drank a litre and a half of water and exfoliated my lips, and I added coconut oil on top of this and my lips are so much better. You all are my new go-to question answerers!!!😀

Movies:

Hmmm perhaps I’m addicted as I watched two Christmas movies today! The Most Wonderful Time of the Year and Sharing Christmas. They were both as cute as ever, though I had to wonder in the second what kind of real estate executive has time to help out in a Christmas store??? 🤣I shouldn’t think about these movies too much, just enjoy them. What is crazy is that I may just watch a third one!!

It has been quite a lazy day and it’s going to continue to be a lazy night😂

Have fun!AJ

I Was Hoping

A nice day, but I didn’t get to where I wanted to be.

Exercise:

I started my morning off great with a hike with my friend Sarah and her dog Kula. We went up the hill to the hydro tower and then back down in one hour and ten minutes. It was so nice to be outside in the green forest, even on this gray, dreary day! It was also great to see Sarah and Kula again as it’s been a while:(. Unfortunately I don’t know how far I went as I plan to use Runkeeper for only running this year!

I had been hoping to get out for a run today to make up for the lack of running this week, but I just couldn’t get my timing straight before the sunset.

I did get a Lyndsay workout in this evening though and I was definitely sweating after this one!

Teaching:

I didn’t teach any children today, but I did have to go buy art supplies for my school, well really just a lot of paper!! I should have bought more, but when the cart was full, I figured it was a good time to stop!🤣 I’m looking forward to filling the shelves in the art room on Tuesday as they have been bare for way too long!!

Family:

I dropped by my parent’s apartment and opened all their mail. Wow that box was stuffed! Before you call the police on me, I had my mom’s permission:). I’ll have to remember to stop by there regularly before it gets to that stage again. Maybe I can time it for when there’s a good movie on the W Network. Lol I was thinking today how I used to do so much at my parent’s place when they were away. Then they sold the house and rented this apartment and for some reason I just don’t like spending time there! Funny how places have vibes.

Beauty:

I had my nails done last Tuesday and yesterday, my thumb nail just popped right off. Thankfully the aesthetician could fit me in today:) It only took a moment and I’m back to having ten pretty nails. This will be my last mani for a while so I’m trying to get it to last as long as possible!

Groceries:

I was hoping to get all my grocery shopping and food prep done today as I have plans tomorrow. I stopped at Thrifty’s on my way home, but only got a few things as I just couldn’t bring myself to pay their prices for some things! I had gone there as they give air miles and I just signed up, but it looks like IGA does too, so I’ll have to stop there tomorrow!

Reading:

I went in the library on my way home today, but I promise I didn’t come home with any books, I just used their wifi!! I’m pretty impressed with my self control🤣

I finished this book, Love of the Gametoday! It tells the story of Kasha, a new physical therapist for the Dallas Gunslingers Baseball team and Axel, the star pitcher. Axel has hurt his shoulder and Kasha claims she can help him recover without surgery. She has one week to prove it.

This book dealt with a lot of big issues such as mental illness, and did it well- thoughtfully and sensitively. I especially liked one line that Axel says, “I don’t believe I deserve special treatment just because I have a talent for throwing a ball. The people who should be getting the special treatment are teachers and nurses and fireman and cops”. Wouldn’t that be nice if it was true of our society?!?!

I have to say that the plot of this novel just seemed super unrealistic to me- like a sports team is going to put their lead pitcher in the hands of the PT who started the day before!! What was she even doing in the meeting??? The pacing of the book was erratic as well. The start dragged with so much of nothing happening and then it was rushed at the end as though the author suddenly realized she had to wrap it up. My least favourite part was the toes scene. I just can’t relive it, so you’ll have to take my word for it!

I usually really like sports romances, but I would suggest going a different route!

I’ve just started the next kids book club book tonight. Hopefully it will be better!

Knitting:

I was hoping to have a finished Cowl to show off, but I just realized I don’t have enough yarn left for the edging and so I need to tink back two rows:(. I decided to leave this for tomorrow when I’m not so tired!

Movie:

I watched A Very Merry Mix Up tonight. It was a cute movie, but I really think the reconciliation should have happened at the family Christmas celebration as the family and Christmas were both so important to both characters. Hmmm I’m obviously watching too many of these movies if I can start writing the plot lines🤣

Well, I think that’s it for me!

Have fun!

Pretty Good

It was a pretty good day that just kept humming along:)

Exercise:

Wow I slept right to the late alarm this morning and still didn’t want to get up!!

Thankfully I got a workout in with Lyndsay after school. It didn’t go according to plan as there were no treadmills available, so we used the bike, rowing machine and elliptical. I definitely noticed that they used different muscles than running so it was probably a good thing there were no treadmills. We did some floor work as well. Clean & press, lateral step ups, planks, skaters, up/downs, seated leg crunch, and probably some other things I’ve forgotten.

I fell walking across the road coming home from Lyndsay’s. it was wet and dark! A woman thought I was a kid so she hopped out of her car in rush hour traffic, to come check on me. It was very kind of her! Another week with a sore knee, I guess🙁😏

I had been starving all day and before my workout I ate oatmeal. When I came home I had salmon on cucumber and celery slices and roasted cauliflower. If I was going to eat everything in sight, I had to at least make it healthy food!

Of course I went from starving to stuffed so I ended up working out a second time. I did a half hour Pinterest workout that had push-ups, mountain climbers, squats, wall sit, jumping jacks, planks, lunges and high knees in it. Thankfully I feel just right now:)

Teaching:

Today was pretty chill with the children. I still have four away so it makes it tough to cover content. Math went completely sideways on me today. We were doing a worksheet on using two coloured counters to create equations that equal ten. Well my children seem to love making patterns so they all coloured the blocks in nice patterns and so all the equations turned into 5+5=10.🤣. Thankfully we’ve covered this concept other ways too, so it wasn’t the end of the world:)

We did snowflakes for art today. We read the book, Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin.<<<<<<<<<br
d circles and folded them and then cut into them to make interesting snowflakes. I like doing art projects that are a little more simple or old fashioned sometimes so the children get the idea they don’t need an electronic game to entertain them at home! Our classroom now looks like a blizzard hit it😂 Reading:

I’m still working my way through my current book, so nothing new to report there. I do however have my next three books laid out waiting for me, so I need to get this one finished. Tonight I’ve made good progress as I’ve had the luxury of having a night where I knit a pattern repeat and then read a chapter:)

Knitting:

My Cowl is coming along. I’m liking the lace pattern, though I’m a little worried that it might be too stiff:( I don’t like cowls that stand up, I prefer when they drape nicely. I guess we’ll just have to see.

Tea:

My tea today was David’s Tea Honeycrisp Apple. It was super good! I think it would be an excellent fall tea. It didn’t get bitter even when it had been left for hours in my insulated thermos:)

On the note of drinking- I’m good about drinking water. I usually finish my one litre water bottle every day, but lately my lips are still dry:) This is driving me nuts so if anyone has any ideas of how to solve this problem, I’d love to hear them. I keep them covered in lip balm ( and yes mom, only gluten free lip balm)and they are still dry.

Well I’m going back to my knitting and reading pattern.

Have fun!
