The end is almost here and everything just keeps speeding up!

Teaching:

Today we glued the last six art projects into our portfolios and designed the cover. I spent my recess break gluing the covers on as I’ve learned not to have the grade ones do that. This is a year long project where every art project the students do gets glued into a big coil bound book. It’s tough, it’s frustrating, but when I heard a parent after school say it’s her favorite memento, it’s worth it!

The rest of the day was taken up with the grade five leaving ceremony. I have mixed feelings about this as to me, this is not a graduation, but simply an expectation. I don’t mind highlighting students and I’m glad we don’t do awards or anything, but I guess what bugs me the most is that they have the processional music playing, etc. I think it should be a bit more fun because they are just leaving a school, not graduating. This class today was neat though as they were he first grade ones I taught at this school:). I’m going to miss some of these kids!

I am already being given some year end gifts at school. I think the first one I was given today may be my favorite gift ever!

I am called Miss B at work so this is perfect and even cuter as it is made with my student’s thumb prints:). I love the parent knows me well enough to give me a succulent that is tough to kill.

I also got given a chocolate flower. It came in this giant box

But only had this inside.

I thought about returning them to the store as the gift receipt was attached but ended up just putting them in the staff room instead. These chocolates did come with this super cute side gift though which I will enjoy:)

Exercise:

The only other thing I got done today was a run because I fell asleep on the couch after school. I met Dennis for a run out at the dykes. I didn’t plan it, but I did my fastest 5km to date! He had me doing a 9.4kms/ hour speed for the first 2.5km!!! As someone who usually happily runs between an 8.4 and a 9.1, this was fast!!

What I really noticed on my run was that I need to get back to doing more weight training as I am definitely not as strong as I was. Thankfully, I should have time for that, starting in three days!๐Ÿ˜€

Crafting:

I only did a tiny bit on my rug tonight so that I could tell Kathy that I did work on it, but I would also have time to work on my knitting as that has a timeline.

Knitting:

With only a few days left of the month, I am trying to get my regular four classes submitted for HPKCHC. It’s going to be a bit of a stretch, but I may just make it. Tonight I finished another yellow and white baby cap. This one was made using just one strand of Cherub baby DK in white and yellow. I casted on 54 stitches and did 9 row stripes for 6 inches. I then began to decrease by knitting two together at the start of each needle. The cap went really fast and I’m happy with how it looks. Even better it used up the ends of two skeins so I am definitely in a new number for my stash๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ

It is now way later than I planned to be up, so I’m off to bed!

Have fun!

AJ

  1. The plant is so cute!! I need to get a succulent since they seem perfect to keep indoors and like something that won’t die in the winter.
I get what you’re saying about the ceremony. Personally, I think most people think of leaving a school as an accomplishment and it’s exciting for the students to hear the graduation music. Just my thought though ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I love my succulents- about the only thing I can keep alive!
I suppose it is exciting, but I want them to come in to โ€œHappyโ€ or something and save the real stuff for later as they end up having three of these before they get to university.

      1. I want to get one! I’m going to have to look at the store soon.
I think that could be fun for a 5th grade graduation! I went to the same Catholic school from pre-school to 8th grade so graduation was more of a big deal there. The kids had all been together for 11 years at that point and we all go to multiple high schools so it’s a big goodbye. Maybe that’s why I feel the way I do about it!

      2. Oh I can see that being a big deal, but here the kids are all mainly going to the same middle school and have only been in school 6 years! I just think it doesn’t have to be so serious and grand. Oh well, it’s not that big of a deal and it was a very pretty ceremony.

  2. Having graduation ceremonies for children in preK, K, 5th/6th whatever always baffled me. Part of me feels like it is the participation trophies. They aren’t graduating anymore than moving from one grade to another. yes they are done with that school, but they are still in that school system. I’d rather see it as a party/fun type hey we made it and we are ready for the next step thing. At the school the boys went to in FL they did a party, awards and graduation. AND the 5th grade teachers, admin, electives and office staff got gift cards from the collective 5th grade class. Ummm what about all the other teachers who taught them? always bugged me

    1. Exactly! They already go to camp as a group all the 5th graders. I think that letting them have cake in the library and having all the teachers circulate through to be able to say goodbye would be enough.

  3. Love the plant and it’s sweet pot, and that darling baby hat! Good for you on the run AND putting a few stitches in your rug just for me! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m doing the same here, 2 butterflies every day no matter what so I can finish this thing by the end of summer!

    1. I figure that I can make up for what I am missing by doing the rug for a couple of rainy days on my holidays while I watch movies:)

    1. It’s coming! I just have to finish one more HPCHC project before June 30th and then I can go back to putting serious time into the rug.
      Thank you! I can’t wait!

  4. I don’t remember what grade it was but one of my teachers collected all our art and put it in a book for our parents! My mom still has it and I am 26. Few other pieces of school art survived haha so it is definitely a great idea!

  5. [I was posting a comment and I couldn’t post … my internet was gone. Rebooted and it’s back, so posting quickly before it leaves again – 2nd time it happened today.]

Now only two more days – that bee flowerpot made of your student’s fingerprints is just the cutest and most-thoughtful gift – no wonder it is your favorite.

  6. Wow! That was an enormous box for a couple of chocolates! Ha ha! I thought it was going to be a chocolate sculpted flower or something! The note pad and pen were really cute, though!
I love the baby cap! So cute! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿป

    1. I thought it was going to be a flower too. Obviously that parent doesnโ€™t know me at all! They disappeared in the staffroom though:)
