Social Butterfly and Half a ✅

It was a much busier day than I had expected!

Exercise:

My day started earlier than expected with a plea from both my nephew and SIL to see if his wallet was in my car. Sure enough it was (when did he get old enough to have a wallet?!?!). He wanted it this morning as he was going out for lunch, so I decided to combine dropping that off with a run on the dykes. It was such a gorgeous morning out there and not very many people! I got just over 5km in:)

This evening I met up with Sarah for a short run through a park. It was just the right amount to add some mileage and yet not to me in:). I need all the mileage I can get as I’d like to get up to 300km by April 1st so I’m back on track!

Shopping:

I had going downtown and having Umaluma ice cream on my spring bucket list and thought I would combine that with having a look at the Vegan Supply Store that is across the street. I even had my friend Kathryn lined up to come with me:).

The Vegan Supply Store was small, but neat to look through. They have an amazing selection of vegan cheese and I may have gone a little crazy. I didn’t buy any Black Sheep Vegan Cheese as I saw they were about $3-$5 more expensive than I can get them here at home.

I think I’m the future, I would just go when I need cheese for a cheese tray, and I may look into their online shopping:)

After spending time in there we walked across the street to check out the Umaluma, only to find it didn’t open until 5pm😢. The owner was coming out and offered to sell me a pint, but I knew it wouldn’t make it home. I did suggest he open a location further East!

Eating:

We instead ended up at Virtuous Pie. It is always good. I was planning to share a Stranger Wings pizza with Kathryn, but after ordering realized it wasn’t automatically gf. As it had already gone into the oven, I had to order another pizza and so got the chorizo and artichoke pizza. It was good, but not quite as amazing as Stranger Wings.

I brought most of it home as I was full after two slices and then took some to my friend Sarah for her dinner.

After a long skytrain ride home I walked in the door to a text inviting me for Happy Hour at my local Earls with Michelle and her boyfriend who is here from Amsterdam. I couldn’t resist so headed over there to enjoy some water and garlic fries with them before my run. I love hanging out with these – their relationship so so great!!! I’m thinking I’ll try to catch up with them tomorrow for Games Night too.

Reading:

I’ve been home reading for the rest of the night and think I’m heading to bed now!

Have fun!

Spend Time With Gus✅

It was so lovely this morning to lay in bed reading for a while!

House:

I picked up my mom and we wanted to stop at a furniture store, but couldn’t get there, so we went to my place and she helped me tackle a couple of cupboards in my kitchen. I am so loving having organization in my life!!! I’m pretty good at staying tidy and organized if an item has a home, but as soon as it doesn’t, I’m a wreck:(

Family Time:

I had planned to hit a new restaurant for lunch today, but the organizing took longer than expected, so we went directly to pick up my nephew. He had texted me the other day and asked if we could go for ice cream😍Awww! I had absolutely no hesitation in agreeing and we even got Nanny B to come along:) We went to Matteo’s Gelato which definitely has the most dairy free options in my neighborhood. It didn’t have quite as many as it will during the summer, but I still had choice:). I picked mango and coconut and wasn’t disappointed!

Afterwards I dragged G along to look at two furniture stores, but I still didn’t find a couch:(

Exercise:

I finally had to admit midafternoon that I wouldn’t be doing my 70 minute mission all in one run today:(. I just don’t have the energy or the lung capacity for it. I did however go out and get 35 minutes done and I’ll do another 35 minutes tomorrow. I’m hoping I can get some longer runs in soon though so I can get my mileage up for my yearly challenge! I didn’t push myself on tonight’s run and was hampered by having to dodge and weave around the crazy busy park! I was still happy to see I was under a 7 minute km:)

Reading:

I have to admit I’ve spent most of the evening laying on my couch in the sunshine reading:) it’s been lovely and may have been interrupted by a short nap😀

I finished One Perfect Kiss by Jaci Burton. This is the latest book in the Hope Series and I’ve read every single one of them! I love this series because of the friend group featured in it. I want to be part of that group as they seem to have so much fun!!! This is a cute, fluffy fun read:)

Well I’m going to go start my next book or maybe work on my sleeve.

Have fun!

AJ

Go Shopping✅

Sorry about yesterday- I fell asleep at 7:30pm. I figure I must have been fighting the slight cold i came down with today.

Exercise:

I hadn’t set an alarm last night, but my nephew’s text woke me up this morning so I figured I might as well go for a run. I only made just over 4km very slowly, but it was at least something. I finished my Squad Runner mission up with a walk in the sunshine this afternoon.

I also got my 100 crunches, 200 squats and a workout called butt blaster done this evening. It had donkey kicks, fire hydrants and one legged Bridges in it. I’m sure my glutes will be talking tomorrow!

Shopping:

I met my friend Lyndsay at Starbucks this morning and then we headed off to the outlets at the airport. I was supposed to be shopping for new Spring clothes, but I only bought more workout gear🤣

I found two pairs of my ASICS Trail shoes at the outlet🎊🎉. I figured it was the end of the last season of them before they were discontinued, so I bought both.

I also found a new running jacket and vest:). Sometimes it helps to be an uncommon size!

I laugh because I spent most of the day thinking the prices were still too expensive, but I guess I have no problem spending big money on workout gear🤣

It was nice to spend the day wandering around the stores and Lyndsay found lots of interesting things too.

Eating:

We then met up with our friend Corianne and Lyndsay’s son for lunch at Brown’s Social House. I was starving by this time! I had the potato crusted cod with the cowboy salad.

It was very yummy though I inhaled it so fast I could barely taste it! This was the first time I had been to Browns where the music and crowd were quiet enough to actually enjoy yourself! It was great!

Reading:

I have spent most of the evening relaxing on my couch with my book. I finished Good Luck With That by Kristan Higgins. When I started the book I was having difficulty keeping the characters straight and with the emphasis on obesity. However once again, Kristan Higgins won me over! The story was realistic, not perfect, but you were rooting for the characters. I loved the message too- you have to learn to love yourself! Definitely worth a read in the end!

Well, that’s it for me!

Have fun!

AJ

Clean Closet✅

It was a lovely day 2 of my holidays and I accomplished something:)

Exercise:

I met up with Brenda and James for my usual Sunday run. They were both walking for various reasons, but I managed to get 4.75km in. I am definitely slower in the morning than I am on my afternoon runs, though I think it might be the lack of fuel- a spoonful of peanut butter as I go out the door isn’t the best, but I’m not willing to give up sleep!

I am right on track for my mileage for this month, though I am still hoping to make up some mileage for February too.

I also did an L workout this evening called Count it Out. I had to do 100 skips, then 90,80,70,60, and 50. Then:

3 sets of:

10 step up each leg, 10 sumo squats, 10 plank hip dips each side

3 sets of 30/20/10 of:

Squats, alternating reverse lunge, bicycle crunches

3 sets of:

20 Spider-Man crunches, 20 flutter crunches, 1 minute plank

I hadn’t realized I did very little exercise last week so that will need to change this week!

House:

I finished my sweater/ linen closet and managed to get rid of 22 sweaters! I always have a difficult time getting rid of sweaters because I’m always cold! My mom has some space bags and they really helped!

I also got my house changed from the cranberry accents I use in the Fall/Winter to the teal I use in Spring/ Summer. With three sunshine the last couple of days, it is actually feeling like Spring:)

Shopping:

I dragged my mom along for some shopping this afternoon. I’ve been hankering to sew for a while and realized I’d like to make my close friend a small quilt for her two boys. I’m hoping for something bird themed as both her and husband have doctorates in biology in the area of birds. Unfortunately I haven’t seen anything that inspired me yet:(

We also hit Lee Vallley which is always fun! Please tell me I’m not the only one who has a Lee Valley list on their phone? I managed to only buy two things- a new carbiner for my keys and a heavy duty stapler for work. Of course, I added five other things to my list🤣

We also stopped at Bed, Bath and Beyond. This store drives me nuts as they never have prices on anything and whatever I am looking for is always on the opposite side of the store from where I start! I got myself a couple more space bags and a new non-stick rolling pin. I’ll do a review of the rolling pin once I use it. I am loving the space bags though as I have already gained two shelves that were full before!!!

Knitting:

I am still working on the yoked sweater. I have finished the 15″ of stockinette and now have to start the sleeves. I thought I got to start the fun stuff after the 15″ and have to admit I’ve spent the evening reading rather than working on sleeves, since I was disappointed to hear I had to do them first. Of course, if I had thought about it I would have realized I had the boring sleeves to do first!

Reading:

I had another book come through on Libby so am trying to finish the one I already had first. It’s called Good Luck With That by Kristan Higgins. I always love Kristan’s books and so wanted to read this one. It is about two friends fulfilling a teenage wishlist after the death of their other friend. I have to admit that so far it’s not my favourite book because I’m having difficulty keeping the characters straight. Plus the whole book is about being fat which is a tough subject for me.

Well, I’m off to do laundry (haha). I’m really just going to read on the couch while the machine does the laundry🤣

Have fun!

Bruce’s Market * New Restaurant ✅ Replace Plants✅

It was my first day of holiday and quite lovely!

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah and Kula for a run/ walk this morning. We ran a few Km then hiked up the coquitlam crunch and then ran back down. It was a little shorter than I was hoping for, but always nice to have company!

I also got my 200 squats and 100 crunches done today:)

Shopping:

I picked my mom up and she had the great idea of heading to Bruce’s Market which has been on my list for a year.

We first went looking for a new quilting store I had heard about from a colleague, called DinkyDoos. It was definitely difficult to find in the back of a new industrial park. The store is very large and bright and has some beautiful packages of fabrics. I did notice that a lot of their fabrics had a muted tone to it. I think they need to have a couple of people doing their material ordering so they get greater variety in their fabric selection.

I remember stopping at Bruce’s Market when I was a kid on the way to camping. I hadn’t been back in about thirty years!

It was not as large as I was expecting, but they sure pack a lot into this small space. It starts with a deli that has some delicious sounding sandwiches and wonderful looking desserts at it. If you have food allergies though, this is not the place for you! I was super hungry but didn’t find anything that would work for me:(

They had a cute gift section where I found a couple of gifts for Christmas:). There were lots of mugs, stationary, scarves, and kitchen gadgets.

There was a small section at the back of refrigerated items like milk, ice cream, cheese, etc. I did notice that items were at least a dollar or two more than what I usually pay. After seeing this, I didn’t pay much attention to the fresh veggie or canned goods items.

I’m glad I went and looked at the Market after having it in my list for so long, but I don’t think I need to go back.

Eating:

I always have lots of restaurants on my list and one was only a 13 minute drive from where I was, so we went for it. Humble Roots was definitely a little off the beaten path. It is a small cafe with a patio that would double the space. They serve breakfast all day and are open until 3pm. I ordered the Salmon Sammy along with fruit salad and my mom got The Canuck- a breakfast sandwich with turkey sausage and a side of hash browns.

My sandwich ended up coming with hash browns, but they did kindly bring me a side of fruit salad when I asked.

The sandwich was fine- a little soggy on the bottom, but the salmon was a nice large juicy piece and I liked the pesto on it. My mom’s sandwich was so big she couldn’t get her mouth around it. We both found the hash browns to be overdone so didn’t make much progress on them! The fruit salad was awesome- fresh and not from the can!

It was good enough, but not something I have to make the half hour drive for.

Gardening:

Since we were driving right by I decided to knock another item off my Spring Bucket List by stopping at the nursery. I asked the woman for a plant that likes bright sunlight and to be watered once a week. I thought overwatering had killed my mom’s Christmas cacti, but she made me realize maybe I was underwatering. Obviously I can’t progress to an animals yet as I can’t keep a plant alive🤣

I came home with two new Christmas cacti, but will wait a few weeks to see if my cacti come back to life.

House:

I kidnapped my mom to come home and help me tackle another closet in my place. I figured my sweater closet was a good place to go looking for the moths. I haven’t completed it yet, but have re-organized and gotten rid of a few things, so am feeling very productive!

Reading:

I finished the book, Hot Winter Nights by Jill Shalvis. This is a part of her Hertbreaker Bay series and I’ve read them all. I enjoyed this book as much as all the rest. This book is the story of Molly Malone and Lucas Knight. They work for Hunt Industries and Lucas is tasked by his partner and friend Joe (Molly’s brother) to protect Molly on her first investigation. I loved how drama-Free this book was and how the whole crowd was featured:). Definitely a great chick lit read, though I would read the series in order.

Blogging:

So I’ve just noticed that my stats are way down lately- anybody want to tell me what I’m doing wrong?

Well I’m going back to my chick flicks and knitting:)

Have fun!

T-19 Hours

I am so close to a holiday, I can almost taste it!

Teaching:

Today was as crazy as ever with trying to tie up loose ends. We had a visit from an operating room nurse this morning that was informative and interesting. I didn’t realize the hospital near me provided so many services!

It was also the wrap up of our community unit today so we had the students dress up as a career. There were some super good ideas- arborist, lacrosse player, vet, dance teacher, hockey player, mom, teacher, coach, etc.

We wrote about the parent visits. I can’t say they was any great writing- mostly just lists of which parents came.

We also did some catch-up before the students took their books home.

After school I had the fun of meeting with eight different parents. The last one showed up out of the blue:(. I survived, but that’s about all I can say about the meetings.

Exercise:

My stomach wasn’t very happy so my run was not great and definitely not as fast as yesterday. I feel like I weigh about a hundred pounds extra right now, so I’m just glad I went and that I’m still on track to make my 100 kilometers this month:)

Knitting/ Reading:

I have discovered a way to read a hard cover while I knit endlessly in the round so it’s been a nice, quiet evening by the fire:)

Have fun!

Finally Wednesday

This week seems to be taking forever though I know it just feels that way because I get to be on holidays at the end of it.

Teaching:

My students came in very productive this morning and got their five pieces of art glued into their scrapbooks first thing. I do love it when the children get independent enough to follow a list on the board:) lol however only five art projects in a term is a dismal failure!

We had a car sales manager come in this morning. It was fine and I definitely learned that Honda doesn’t just make cars, but is an engineering firm.

This afternoon we had a second aren’t come talk who is the head wrestling coach at a university and a former Olympic wrestler himself. I learned so much and he is definitely the best parent presenter we’ve had this year- just so charismatic! He taught the children a wrestling stance and then flipped one of the boys! Unfortunately all of my photos show faces so you’ll just have to take my word for it:)

We finished the day with gymnastics. I am impressed with my class this year as they have started going around and checking the mats and repositioning the hoops once they have their shoes and socks off. I guess they really want to do gymnastics as they aren’t allowed to touch equipment until this has been done and I’ve never asked them to do it. Kids taking initiative is so wonderful! ( and yes I do check everything myself too)

Exercise:

After chatting with some colleagues after school, I headed home for a run. I managed just over 4km and I actually hit a 6:10km. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before! I just hope it wasn’t a mistake!

Such a gorgeous day for a run! I may need to retire the down jacket soon🤣

Reading:

I finally finished Lunch In Paris by Elizabeth Bard last night. I added this book to my Goodreads TBR in March 2012!

The book was fine. It was about an American woman who meets a French man and ends up moving to Paris and her transition into this culture.

The book was interesting but I found it disjointed and tough to follow. I hadn’t realized eight years had passed until I got to the end of the book and that was stated in the epilogue.

I also found I wasn’t really invested in the characters. I didn’t feel as though I got to know them.

I did like how the book centered around food, but quickly realized the recipes weren’t for me with my food allergies. The parts of the book at the market were some of my favorites.

of course, being done my book meant I headed to the library this evening with my mom. I only came home with 14 books, not bad for me!!🤣

Well I’m leaving you now so I can go read!

Have fun!

Today is Brought to you By the Letters Ch

I just couldn’t stop thinking, how is it only Tuesday?

Teaching:

After a very difficult time getting out of bed, I headed to work. We had a parent come in and talk about his job as a financial analyst with a distribution company- definitely not something the children knew about. It’s a neat job as it requires math skills.

I’m starting to think the children are just into the swag they get🤣

We subtracted zero and the number itself. I’m glad these topics went quickly as it will let me get a little caught up in math. I don’t know how I got so far behind!

Finally this afternoon we had gymnastics which the students did wonderful at and a coding activity. Last week the students had built a community on a grid and today they had to direct the car to get to certain destinations.

It was amazing how engaged they all were and how quickly they caught on. One thing though, we need to take the tape off and draw the grid. We have lots more ideas of where we can take this in third term!

Socializing:

After hibernating during all the recent snow, I had a very social night! It started with a massage where my glutes talked back to me. Then I met my friend for dinner at The Green Mustache. I decided on lemon cheesecake.

My aunt always told me to order what I didn’t get at home. The taste of the cheesecake was excellent, not too heavy and it was a beautiful presentation. I do wish it had been a slightly smoother texture though; I found the cashew was ground up enough for my taste.

We then moved on to trivia at the St James Well. I indulged in chicken wings which didn’t look anything like I was expecting! We think we were about middle of the pack, but it only ever shows the top six teams. For only having three people again, we’re okay with that!

Well I’m home and dead tired so off to sleep.

Have fun!

AJ

Another Monday

I was amazed that it wasn’t more difficult to get up this morning, though I definitely missed the daylight:(

Teaching:

We had a policeman come and talk to the class today and another professional engineer who works for hydro. The students were well behaved and had some interesting questions, though they seemed to be super obsessed with bad guys🙄

We got a tiny bit of math done and a Spring Bucket List. I wrote mine while the children wrote theirs.

Spring Bucket List (in no particular order)

Run a half marathon distance

Have naps

Walk on a beach

Go on a road trip

Visit a bookstore

Plant herbs

Check out Maria’s Gelato in Fort Langley

Fly a kite

Clean my closets

See my parents

Get some flowers

Wander around downtown

Replace my plants

Go on a trail run

Spend time with Gus

Ride my bike on the PoCo trail

Have ice cream at Umaluma

Stay in bed and watch movies all day

Visit a new town

Try a new restaurant

Go shopping for new clothes

This should keep my busy for a while🤣

Exercise:

I ran home quick and got out for a short run. It wasn’t as long as I expected but it was much wetter than I was expecting. I guess I should just be happy that it wasn’t the snow they were calling for!

I also got my 200 squats and 100 crunches done:)

Shopping:

I grabbed my mom to keep me company while I went out to try and get gas at Costco again. It was much quicker than yesterday! We wandered around the aisles which I never take the time to do, but I’m really glad I did!

I found this:

It’s probably crazy that I’m so excited about new tupperware🤣. I love that it has lots of 1/2 and 1 cup containers and the containers are marked with smaller amounts too! If it works well next week, I’ll be going back for a second set as that would get me through the whole week:)

I also stopped and got some more baking powder and flour but that’s not very exciting!

Movies:

I’ve spent the evening knitting endless stockinette in the round and watching Hallmark movies. I watched Walking the Dog. It’s a very cute movie that features gorgeous water scenery and two awesome puppies! Sam Page definitely didn’t hurt the movie too. I liked how the story was realistic and not overly dramatic. The second storyline is also very sweet!

I also watched Country Wedding. Again, Jesse Metcalfe seriously helps this movie. I wonder how Hallmark gets all these gorgeous actors? This is a cute movie, though I’m not as big a fan of the whole Hollywood wedding storyline.

I’m going to need to stock up on movies for Spring Break!

It seems as though my mom won’t be around for my Spring Break, but I’ll be a big girl and get over it. My friends will help as I already have a hockey game midway through the break. I just have to find a few more things to keep me busy:)

Have fun!

AJ

Everyone Came Home

It was a day of visiting as not only my parents have come home this week, but also my closest friend:)

Exercise:

This morning I just walked for an hour with Brenda because I realized I had to run this evening. I have kicked myself for this as it would have been a good stretch to run double in a day, especially if I want to try another half marathon distance run! Oh well, I’ll have to keep this goal in mind better!

I did get out for a run this evening and managed 6.5km in gorgeous sunshine. It was a great day for a run and I felt good and strong, yay🎉🎊

Visiting:

After a quick run through the grocery store for some veggies and fruit, I went up to see my friend and her husband and two sons as they just arrived home from six months in Mexico. It was a successful trip as they got lots of family time with members who can’t come to Canada. It sure is nice to have her home though!!!

Kitchen Time:

I did my food prep for today. I made a breakfast trifle with the muffins that kept falling apart last week along with yogurt and berries. I’m excited to have these for breakfast this week. I have apples for recess and a cookie for after school snack. I have discovered I need a little treat or else I go off the deep end at some point. At least now it is planned into the day.

This week I roasted a parsnip, turnip, Onion, eggplant, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, celery, carrots, peppers, and mushrooms with onion, basil, oregano, salt and pepper and mixed in some feta.

I love roasted veggies for lunch and already have a plan for next week- Italian seasoning and hot Italian sausage! It’s a super easy dish to make as you just cut all the veggies, mix with olive oil and seasoning and cook at 350 for 30-45 minutes. It is not a glamorous looking dish, but so yummy.

Knitting:

I am back knitting my sweater that I started last night. I am super happy with it so far and hope that feeling continues. I just noticed the pattern doesn’t have a name so I’m not sure how I’m going to record it on Ravelry.

I ran out this evening to get gas at Costco and the line up was about thirty cars deep! I definitely won’t make that mistake again. Hopefully I can fit it in on Monday or Tuesday night.

Well I definitely need to get some new Hallmark movies as I find myself watching A December Bride tonight. 🙄🤪🤣. It is however taking my mind off my slightly queasy stomach. Everyone around me has the stomach flu so I’m thinking I should be thankful I got the flu shot this year!

Have fun!
