Trivia Tuesday #9

I figure I had better start keeping track of how many trivia tuesdays I have!

Teaching:

I have to admit my students suffered today as I was trying to get ready for the track meet tomorrow and I have a zillion things on my mind.

We did a journal and my students did fabulous! They are writing three or four pages now and including lots of details. It’s so great to see.

We did our math drills and read a book on time.

This afternoon we watched a video on motion and we voted in the grade 4/5 election. The campaign speeches were very interesting!

After school, my principal came to tell me she is sending a fourth teacher with us to the track meet tomorrow. I don’t really know what this extra teacher will do, but okay. Usually we have about 70 students between the three of us but this year we only have 39 so we were expecting the principal to pull one of us, not add another teacher! Tomorrow will be interesting!

Knitting:

After a quick massage I spent some time knitting on my sock and I am up to the stockinette foot now. I really hope I can finish it tomorrow!

Trivia:

All I contributed tonight was my neat printing because it was a theme night centered around Game of Thrones. I haven’t read any of the books or watched any of the shows so most of the questions didn’t even make sense to me.

Eating:

Breakfast: mini scone with peanut butter

Recess: yogurt and mandarin orange

Lunch: deconstructed turkey stuffed peppers, one slice of bread

Snack: cookie, zucchini

Dinner: salmon and veggies over lettuce greens and sangria

Way too much food today, but hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Have fun!

Why Won’t It Stay?

It was a very quiet day, but I was okay with that as I know this week is going to be crazy!

Exercise:

I got up this morning and went directly out for my run. I did just under 6km and was happy to see that my average pace still stayed below 7min/km even with the longer distance. It sure didn’t feel that way! It was nice it wasn’t raining, but I felt like I was plodding along.

This evening I went out again for a short run to the park and back just to finish off the Squad Runner mission. I swear it started pouring the moment I stepped outside! I only saw four people out which is quite remarkable for my town! Amazingly, I was slower this evening than I was this morning. I definitely thought it would be the reverse!

House:

I really didn’t want to do anything today, but I did get my dishes done, laundry done and sheets changed. I am so looking forward to crawling into bed as I don’t think there’s many things better than clean sheets!

Reading:

I finished the kids Bookclub book called Short. It was by Holly Goldberg Sloan who has written some other kids books that I loved. This book is about a short girl who is chosen to be a munchkin in the community theatre play one summer. She doesn’t want to at first, but finds herself becoming enmeshed in the theatre and learns a lot about herself. With being short myself, I found it interesting and an easy read, but it also felt at times like the author was trying too hard to teach lessons.

Baking:

So I did my dishes and had a lovely clean kitchen, then of course I wanted to play in the clean kitchen so I made scones and suddenly I have a messy kitchen again. It’s just a vicious cycle!

I made another batch of Sally’s Baking Addiction master scone recipe, however, this time I made lemon blueberry ones. I even put the lemon drizzle on top, which I normally wouldn’t. The scones taste great but they are almost too light. I expect a scone to be dense, but I’m wondering if they’re light just because I made twice as many as he recipe called for. I may have to try big ones and maybe they would be denser. I loved the recipe again and it went faster for me this time:)

I’m loving the Cup 4 cup flour I’ve used for both sets of scones and the Melt vegan butter spread. Both have been producing great results. I may have to try cinnamon buns with them!

Knitting:

I finished one of my socks today and have gotten up to the gusset decreases on the second one. I’m hoping to finish this pair tomorrow as I have to get moving on something for a two year old boy. I have sirdar snuggly yarn I’m going to use in a pale blue. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

I spent the rest of the time working on my mom’s present. She tells me they may be coming a day later than planned. That may be a good thing🤣

Have fun!

A Great Adventure

Today started out tough but got infinitely better:)

Social:

I awoke to a message that Lyndsay had forgotten her purse and phone at Cori’s house last night and all I could think was, “why wasn’t I invited?” And I was feeling hurt. It turns out that Cori responded to Lyndsay’s group text with the invitation but I didn’t get it as Lyndsay doesn’t seem to have a group text option. They both assumed I was out when I didn’t answer. I’m glad it was just this and I hadn’t upset anyone as of course I immediately started thinking they found me annoying or boring. I was proud of myself for actually saying something and not just keeping quiet and being hurt.

Exercise:

I ended up walking 4km with Brenda this morning as otherwise she would have been alone. We did discover a way to extend our Coquitlam River run however so I’ll be happy about that. It still won’t be a run that I do alone though.

This evening I got out for a short 3.69km run. It was a gorgeous night and I just enjoyed it as it will cut down on how much I have to do tomorrow to finish the 12km mission. It is nice to see my times be around 6:30/km pretty consistently and yesterday I made a 6:13 so I’m happy:)

Socializing:

Lyndsay, Cori and I had arranged to meet up to try out a cidery today. It was the Fraser Valley Cider Company in Langley. It is a long way out there, but was super calm, pretty and peaceful when we finally got there. We each got a flight of cider and a charcuterie board to share. I tried their four sweetest flavors- black currant and cardamom, honey, elderflower and gin botanical. I think they really should include all their flavors in the flight as I wonder if I would have liked some of the others better. The guy did let me try Rosy as I was leaving and it was pretty yummy with its caramel taste. I ended up getting the black currant cardamom cider as it was sweet and different from what I had had before.

We decided that we needed to do something else as it had taken us so long to get out there. We went and walked around Fort Langley and looked in a few of the shops. I did find some underwear I liked and bought:) I remember this place as having more little boutique stores, but now it seems to be comprised mostly of places to eat. We tried one none of us had been to called Fortitude for happy hour. We all noticed the server announced it was happy hour as though that was a bad thing🤣 I had a raw hard lemonade which they kindly made sweeter than normal for me and we shared the salt and pepper wings, edamame and arincini. It was all very yummy!

On the way out of town we stopped at Maria’s Gelato for coffee. I had been there before and been unimpressed they didn’t explain that vegan and gluten free grilled cheese cost more than the usual. This time, the girl sold me vegan cheese, and had a whole conversation with me about my dairy and gluten allergies and then made my iced chai with regular milk. She then excused it by saying I hadn’t specifically ordered non dairy. She then charged me again for the milk substitute!!! I was super unimpressed!😖

On the way home we stopped at Amsterdam Nursery as we all wanted to get some plants. We had quite the car full of plants on the way home! I got mine all planted and am happy to have a pot of herbs again. I’m thinking I really need some plants for my other pots, even if they will die when I’m away this summer!

Knitting:

I am making progress on my Rose City Rollers Littles sock. I may even get one finished this weekend, though I’d love to finish both!

Reading:

I’m also making some progress on my two books:)

Well that was my lovely day:)

Have fun!

Frustration

This is starting to be a pattern and I don’t like it!

Exercise:

My Saturday morning is supposed to start with a long run with my running buddy Sarah, but this morning I waited and waited and didn’t hear from her until 9:15 at which time I didn’t have enough time for a long run because I was supposed to meet someone at 10:30 (which also got cancelled at the last minute). This is not the first time this type of scenario has happened with Sarah- she’s the queen of bailing on runs. I just need to figure out how to stop this or find a new running buddy (which is tough when you’re not Boston qualifier fast)😢. I tried setting a time with Sarah, but that was even worse, so I’m just not sure what to do:(

I did get my 50 banded squats, 50 plié squats, 25 forward lunges, 25 lateral lunges, 25 backward lunges, 25 curtsy lunges, 25 crunches, 25 reverse crunches, 25 bicycle crunches, 25 Russian twists, 50 pushups and 50 dips done this morning before I headed out.

I also met up with Brenda for a walk through the new biking trails in the woods by her place. It was a gorgeous, cool spot for a walk today.

This evening I got myself out the door for a run by telling myself I could do as little as just one kilometer. I ended up doing 3.6km and seeing three of my students. It was fast for me though so I’m okay with the short length.

Knitting:

I picked up my knitting for the first time in a long time and got the heel done on my first sock.

Movie:

yesterday the secretary at work was saying she wanted to see Poms, the new Diane Keaton movie. I told her that if she didn’t find anyone I wanted to see it too. I thought it was going to be just a fluffy movie, but it actually has quite a serious and sad thread running through it. I really enjoyed the movie and would recommend it. I also enjoyed the company and hopefully this will just be the first of many movie dates with the school secretary:)

Reading:

I’m having to read two books at once, which isn’t my favourite. I’m making my way through Short for the kids Bookclub and through Josh And Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating. What is it with ditzy female lead characters? I’m going to need to find something with a strong woman lead character next!

Eating:

It wasn’t the best day and I think it’s because I didn’t have a plan.

I’ve eaten:

A hard boiled egg, a mini cinnamon raisin scone, yogurt, an RX bar (won’t be buying another), celery with cheese, a cookie, a tilapia filet (with everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s that is wonderful!!!)

Oh well, it’s not horrible, but it’s not great.

I’m off to work on my mom’s present again.

Have fun!

I Need a Better Strategy!

Right now my strategy for getting through meetings seems to be eating:( I really need a better strategy that I don’t regret so much afterwards!

Exercise:

I started the day with a workout with L as I figured this might help me survive what was to come. We did a half hour on the treadmill that all seemed to be sprinting intervals. I actually made it up to 7.5mph on the treadmill. It’s still slow compared to L’s 10mph, but it’s an improvement over my old speed!

We also did some weights- three sets of each of: lunge to shoulder press, single leg lunge with hop, burpee to squat Jack, and pop jacks. Of course L added in a minute of cardio between each of these just to make sure I really was dripping sweat!🤣

This evening I got out for a run in the sunshine that finally reappeared. It was a quick run to the park and back, but I had a decent speed and I didn’t want to do too much when I should be doing a long run tomorrow morning.

Teaching:

I had no kids today but instead had to attend a day of meetings to plan for next year. Ugh. I so dislike these days for many reasons!

  • I have to sit in one spot all day while not reading a book
  • Some people talk too much
  • Some people say stupid things over and over again
  • You can’t tell people that what they’re saying is stupid
  • You have to look engaged at all times
  • I’m in a room with snacks I wouldn’t normally eat
  • I have to be constantly vigilant to not say the wrong thing
  • I can’t let my bluntness take over
  • I swear I could accomplish all of these things in under an hour and yet it takes three hours
  • All that can be said is that I survived and I don’t think I’ve made any more enemies than I had before the day started.
  • Reading:
  • I finally finished 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne. I had requested this book because I absolutely adored The Hating Game by her (which I hear is being made into a movie🎉🎊), but this one I had a really tough time with. First of all there was a lot of thought or in the head stuff in this book, which I have to admit is not a favourite of mine. I’d rather have stuff actually happening. Secondly, the characters seemed immature, weird and annoying! It might be because we hear all the female’s thoughts, but even her thoughts seemed really weird to me! I also would have really liked to have the narrator rotate between the three main characters as I think it would have added interest and depth to the book. Sorry, but I just can’t recommend this book:(
  • Eating:
  • My eating was horrible this morning and it has actually taken the rest of the day and a run for me to not feel so overly full!
  • Breakfast: hard boiled egg, scone
  • Recess: banana, mandarin orange, candy (thank goodness there wasn’t more I could eat!)
  • Lunch: waffles with figs, chia seed jam and cashew cream (my usual at Green Mustache) and a venti tea
  • It’s way better when my mom is here to share with me!
  • The only good thing was that when my mom texted the news they had made a big purchase, I didn’t eat- I went for a run:)
  • I have spent the evening working on my mom’s Gift and I can’t tell you about it as she reads my blog every day🤣
  • Have fun!

  • Fake Friday

Well it is kind of my Friday today as I have no kids tomorrow, but I do have to suffer through all day meetings.

    Teaching:

Today we did an opinion response about Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson. I love this book because it highlights how one person’s good deed can spread to everyone.

We also did some more work on time which the children really seem to be getting well.

And this afternoon we started a directed drawing project based on Van Gogh’s Wheatfield with Crows which is our art for Saskatchewan which has a lot of wheat fields. We thought it would be one day, but we’ll have to finish it next week.

We had a meeting at lunch about the three classroom moves that are supposed to happen. Two of them I completely get, but moving the music room to the portable, I don’t get! We have to go outside to get there through the rain we have continuously and it is going to take up instructional time to get the kids dressed and undressed for going outside:(. I guess my biggest complaint is that there is never any discussion and it doesn’t feel like any comments we make, make any difference:(

If only everyone had to agree with me!🤣

I ran out of work quickly to get to my doctor’s appointment. So annoying that he only gave me six months of my pills- it’s a pain to go there! The good news is that I have perfect blood pressure-120/60. I guess all that running is good for something!

    Exercise:

Unfortunately no running happened today. I ended up having another unplanned nap and just didn’t have a run in me, so I went for a walk instead. Hopefully a one hour walk is equal to a run:)

    Baking:

I had bought some Sweet Loren’s cookies down the states last weekend as I had read a blog raving about them. I made them up tonight so that I can take them to work tomorrow. They are pre-shaped and took about 17 minutes to cook. I tried one cookie and it was chewy and too sweet while having too little taste. I can’t say that I will be buying them again, though I admit I always think homemade is better!

    Eating:

I had a good eating day! Though I am starting to wonder if I’m the only person who eats pretty well the same thing everyday?

    Breakfast- hard boiled egg

    Recess: yogurt

Lunch: 2 kid pancakes with 1 mini sausage

    Snack: cinnamon raisin scone

Dinner: 1 tilapia filet, cherry tomatoes with hummus, pepper with salsa, cucumbers with fake cream cheese, 1 cookie

I would like to make it so that lunch was my bigger meal though!

Well, I’m going to go suffer through more of the book I am reading right now, though I really need to get back to knitting!

    Have fun!

    Just as Important

It didn’t go according to plan, but it was still good.

    Teaching:

Today we accomplished printing, introduced the concept of time and drew pictures of us playing and learning at school. Not the most productive day at school for the kids, but I got 200 labels completed for the track meet, met with nine different kids and moved events around and got the parent drivers organized. I definitely feel sorry for my students during track season:(

I did finally get a picture of our dinosaur art:)

    Exercise:

After having an unplanned nap, I got out for an easy run. Just over to the park. I’m realizing that I’m most comfortable with 3-4km runs, but at least on Saturday and Sunday I’m pushing that a bit.

I headed over to Zumba with Cori, but we met Lyndsay in the parking lot and ended up talking with her instead of going to Zumba. As a person who is super shy and quiet and doesn’t have a ton of friends, I think times like this are probably just as important as exercise!

    Eating:

Not a perfect day, but not horrible either. I’m okay with having extra veggies and an orange. I had:

    Breakfast- hard boiled egg

Recess: yogurt and a mandarin orange

Lunch: celery and cheese, veggies and hummus

    Snack: cinnamon raisin scone

Dinner: sausage patty, a pepper and hummus, cucumber and cheese

I need to clear out my freezer so I can buy more seafood as that’s really what I wanted with my veggies tonight!

Well that’s it for me I have to go figure out changing the CO2 canister on my soda stream.

    Have fun!

    Trivia Tuesday

It ended on a fun note.

    Teaching:

Well I started early with track practice and teaching children to pass a baton. You’ve never heard so much clattering!

We had Writer’s Workshop first thing this morning and covered persuasive writing. They did so well! Of course they are children so they are experts at being persuasive.

We got the measurement assessment done and our math drill. Every day we review the math addition facts for the number of the week (this week is the 8+ facts) to a movement. Today they chose pushups😳omg I think they’re trying to kill me!

Finally this afternoon we started our mini unit on Force and Motion. Its perfect- they don’t know much and they have lots of questions!

    Exercise:

I got home quick for a run to and around the park. It was just 4.7km and not super fast, but it felt so nice to get out! Unfortunately this was my only exercise today:(

    Eating:

I did have a stellar eating day- I resisted tortilla chips that were sitting right in front of me and had a relatively healthy meal at the pub!

    Breakfast- hard boiled egg

Recess- yogurt – had the Trader Joe’s cultured coconut yogurt- vanilla flavour

Once again it was a larger serving and quite thick, but it had that odd taste to it:(

Lunch- celery with cheese and hummus and one of my mini scones

    Snack- an orange

    Dinner- the salmon bowl.

I didn’t eat the rice and I think next week I’ll ask them to put it over salad greens, but it was yummy!

    Trivia:

Tonight was trivia at the pub again. We actually had six people and got about 3/4 of the questions right each time. It drives me nuts how the same team wins every time though:(

Some of the questions I knew:

Who is Bob Seger’s backup band?

    The Silver Bullet Band

How long is an Olympic marathon?

    42.2km like every other marathon

What was William Shakespeare’s mother’s name?

    Mary

How many Stanley Cup Playoff games have the Vancouver Canucks played in?

    18

Which state is the US Tennis open played in?

    New York

Which country did the Romans call Caledonia?

    Scotland

There were many more, but I’m tired and need sleep!

    Have fun!

    Monday Monday

How many more Mondays do I have before the holiday???

    Teaching:

We started the day with a talking circle about our weekend and then the students wrote about it in their journals. While they were writing I was walking around selecting people to choose their jobs for the week based on how much they had accomplished (and of course helping). I have to remember this as even my reluctant writers got into it once they figured out what I was doing!

During my music prep we got our field trip notice ready and started on our report card template.

I spent a large part of the day dealing with track and getting the forms out to kids.

We also moved along in our run across Canada today and made it to Regina, Saskatchewan. Regina is the capital of this province. It is the fifth largest province. A third of the province is used for farming. It has the largest potash mine in the world and the largest jet pilot training base. Saskatoon is the largest city but then entire province has just under 2 million people and most live in the Southern part of the province. There you go- now you know something about Saskatchewan:)

    Exercise:

Thankfully Sarah has texted me for a run tonight as I don’t think I would have gotten out by myself! We did a loop of Bert Flynn Park again and once again the run and nature did a great job of calming me down. I also managed to run a little more of the hill that is in the centre of the run.

This evening I also made myself do something as I had the scone I hadn’t planned on. I did 50 banded squats, 50 plié squats, 50 banded iso monster walking, 25 backward lunges, 25 curtsy lunges, 25 front lunges, 25 lateral lunges, 25 front kicks, 25 roundhouse kicks, 25 back kicks, 50 pushups, 50 dips, 25 upright rows, 25 bicep curls, 25 lateral raises, 25 front raises, 25 back raises, 25 dumbbell double crunch, 25 Russian twists, 25 crunches, 25 reverse crunches, and 25 bicycle crunches.

    Baking:

After a quick trip to Costco for gas, I finally managed to complete the Sally’s Baking Addiction Monthly Challenge this month for scones. They were relatively easy, but I have to admit they took me almost an hour start to finish. These do have fifteen minutes of refrigeration in the centre and while they took longer than my usual scones- they also look like they taste better:)

I have to admit I tried one- the recipe made 16 mini ones for me, and it was delicious! It was light inside but crispy outside and I used turbinado sugar on top which has a nice crunch. This may be my new go to scone recipe!

    Eating:

I did pretty good considering I had a staff appreciation luncheon today.

    Breakfast: hard boiled egg

Recess: yogurt- today I had Trader Joe’s cultured coconut milk blueberry yogurt.

It had a good amount in it, but also was more calories than most yogurts I eat. This one was also thicker than yesterday’s and had a bit of a jelly texture. I did notice a strong taste that didn’t seem natural though. I don’t think I would buy this one again.

Lunch- veggie and hummus sandwich – they had lunch meat and cheese but I can’t eat cheese and the meat wasn’t labeled so I didn’t know if it was gf, tortilla chips and salsa, pickles and olives, and some vegan berry ice cream.

    Snack: the smallest scone

    Reading:

I have started a new book today called, 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne. So far it seems slightly confusing, but hopefully it will get better quickly:)

    Have fun!

    Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, but especially mine! I got another great surprise invite this afternoon:)

    Family:

I really do have the best mom ever! This morning I got a text first thing, thanking me for being her kid. I told her, we’re supposed to be thanking her today, not the other way around! I have my super secret Mother’s Day gift ready for when she pops in next week:)

    Exercise:

This morning I met up with Dennis for a run. It was just the two of us as the others were all away visiting their moms. I was again aiming for 10km, but only made 8.3km. The Mexican food from last night wasn’t helping matters, though it was a lovely spot to run along the dykes this morning!

I also had a lovely walk to Old Orchard Park this evening. It was such a nice evening and I had great company!

    Home:

I got a lot done after my run tea as I was avoiding doing the track stuff for school. I got my dishes washed, laundry done, plants watered, items up for sale, hallway tidied, food made for next week, etc. I’m always amazed during these energetic spurts!

    Socializing:

I did finally sit down and was working on my track stuff for school when my friend Cori texted to see if I was home. I love invites like this. We wandered around and got some of her errands and my errands done:). Cori says two guys were trying to have conversations with me, but I completely didn’t clue into that:(. 🤣 In other news, Mom, they had my blue wine at the liquor store again!!!😀

    Eating:

I was doing really well in my eating today!

    Breakfast: yogurt

The Chobani non dairy strawberry yogurt was my first yogurt to try. It was a little thin, not as thick as I would have liked, but it had a really good, deep strawberry taste and there was a good amount of it. I would buy it again:)

Lunch: salad with tomatoes and blue cheese dressing

I ended up having dinner with Cori as her kids had all abandoned her for their grandmother today. We went to Browns Social House and they wouldn’t let us sit on the patio because the weather was supposed to change, but it was gorgeous and quiet out there! We both had a social club drink and then we split the chicken wings and the ahi tuna poke bowl. I had been wanting to have one and it was really good!

See this keeps happening- I’m having a really good eating day and then I get invited out! I’m just not willing to give up being social to lose these pounds though so I’ll just continue to be good around these meals. At least I didn’t come home and make the cookies or scones I was planning to. Tomorrow🤣

    Reading:

I got an ARC from Kait Nolan called Dancing Away With My Heart. What an awesome book!

Zach and Lexi bonded in high school over their love of photography, but after a horrible moment they haven’t talked in ten years. When Lexi comes home to help her mom, she knows she can’t avoid him.

This was an amazing read! The characters are interesting and human and have such incredible real ness to them. They just got and seem perfect for each other in every way.

I love how the events unfold over time in the book. You don’t learn all the secrets in the first chapter:)

It was only enhanced by the friend circle of Wishful being present. It makes you want to be a part of this group and gave a great update on some of the characters.

I think people who like friends to more stories will truly enjoy this story.

Well, I think I’m going to enjoy my next book on my couch.

    Have fun!
