ProD Day

It was an okay day, but I’m worried!

Exercise:

I got to sleep in a bit and still got to get a workout in with L this morning. We did a hill workout and then did bicep curls, overhead tricep extensions, double crunches, pushups on the stability ball, ab rollouts, pike pushups, bent over rows, and something else I’ve blocked. It was a good workout and my hip did pretty good:)

Teaching:

It was a professional development day today so I got a couple of hours in my classroom to get myself organized and then went to a workshop this afternoon. It was good but sounded just like a program I’ve been using for years.

Blog Hop:

The final day of Teacher Turned Mommy’s back to school blog hop.

What’s in my lunchbox? I usually have a piece of fruit for recess, but not oranges anymore as one of my students is allergic. I then have leftovers for lunch:). It’s simple, but does the trick.

Knitting:

I have been working on my Not A Boring Sweater year knit and am on the hem pattern. I’m really starting to worry that I’m not going to have enough yarn left to do the sleeves:(. It makes it tough to keep knitting when I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish:( I have a message into the company, but doubt they have any. If anyone has an idea to solve this problem, please let me know.

This is what the sweater looks like.

Well I’m off to bed with a book!

Have fun!

A Loooong Day

It was a very long work day today.

Exercise:

Absolutely none:(. That doesn’t happen often and it’s amazing how much flabbier I feel tonight. I know I know it’s all in my head. When I got up this morning my hip was feeling better, but I decided not to be stupid and to give it one more day of rest. It’s something about hearing my mom in my head…

Teaching:

We had an okay day, but there were definitely moments- mostly around lining up, that drove me crazy.

We had a lesson on recycling this morning. We tackled a before and after numbers lesson and I learned one of my students doesn’t even recognize numbers to 10😳

This afternoon we learned about responsibilities and then went outside to play.

I got dust from pencils all over myself, then during outside play time I did gardening with some of the children and got dirt on my skirt and seeds on my cardigan.

I then got makeup on my shirt and realized my shoes were open toed and I had extremely chipped nail polish so I searched around until I found black nail polish in my desk drawer from witch’s fingers and painted over everything. Of course this all happens the day that is meet the creature night (otherwise known as open house or meet the teacher night). I really shouldn’t be let out alone.

Thankfully my room was empty by 6:13 and no one asked me how their child was doing. Open house is always my worst nightmare as I am really bad at small talk and parents scare me🤪

I am now going to go crawl into my bed!

Have fun!

A High and a Low

Exercise:

The only movement I did today was some foam rolling and stretching after my Epsom salts bath. I am trying really hard to be a responsible body owner and listen to what my body is telling me. However, it has been absolutely gorgeous here all day- that perfect crisp, fall day- and all I can think is, why today of all days can’t I run??? You can bet it will be pouring the next time I run.😖

Teaching:

We had music this morning so didn’t get anything else done other than calendar. We got a dot-to-dot to 29 done and it seemed like only one of my children had real difficulty. This afternoon we started talking about rights and responsibilities. I think it’s going to take us a week to do the booklet I thought would take two days🤣

I got through testing one child on his sight words and amazingly he knew all the words to grade two, except for six. That’s a nice start, but I think he’s my top student so we’ll see what happens with the rest.

The best part of the day was that there were no problems at recess or lunch and at the end of the day outdoor playtime I got two girls playing together who usually just wander around by themselves. It felt so great to hear them laughing and giggling as they ran down the hill and did “meditation”. It was the best teacher moment I’ve had yet this year❤️❤️ Now I remember why I do this job!!!

Blog Hop:

New friends are always tough for me as I am very shy. People who meet me at work never believe this, but I put on a teacher persona in the morning just as much as I put on clothes. I definitely have the tendency to have a few good friends over a lot of friends, but once I’m friends with you, you’re stuck with me!🤣🤣

Thanks Teacher Turned Mommy for hosting this fun blog Hop:)

Knitting:

I was home early after doing a few puttery things around my classroom and spent the evening listening to podcasts and knitting on a Fall cowl for my HPKCHC class. It is blocking right now as it has a tendency to roll and hopefully I’ll be able to show it off tomorrow.

I’m down three more skeins, unfortunately I’m still +93 for the year:(

Well I’m off to bed in the hopes of being able to run tomorrow morning.

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday #22

No!No!No!

Exercise:

I headed out this morning for my run but at just under 1.5km my left hip had a pain that was not the ordinary. I thought for a moment of carrying on and then decided not to be stupid and turn around. I only got 2km in and hobbled around all day. I actually felt better when my colleague reminded me we had that tough workout after school yesterday. Hopefully that is the cause of the pain and it will go away quickly! I took a long Epsom salts bath after school (I figured out to read blog posts during it so I stayed in longer) and then foam rolled as well. I’m hoping a few days of this and I will be all better!

Teaching:

I might see progress! This morning we got calendar done which is truly painful right now but teaches so many concepts that it’s worth the pain. We also did our first journal entry and got our first poem/song. Not bad for just the morning! After quiet time we did our first math- counted to 100 and played mystery number which they loved. I don’t get what’s so exciting about guessing a number covered by a sticky note on the 100 chart, but year after year, it’s a hit!

We went to the gym and played turtle tag. I am so glad that so far our classes can handle gym together as that gives them gym every day. So necessary when we have rainy weather like we have now. It was also hilarious that my colleague usurped the talking role and made me the turtle in the demo and the kids said, I was a pretty fast turtle🤣

Before recess and lunch today I had my three boys decide who they would play with and where. I made sure it was a wise decision and that they were separated. It worked! No reported problems at recess and lunch🎉🎊.

Unfortunately another little guy hit a Kindergartener with his jacket🙄

I never thought I’d be this teacher, but I think we need some external incentive and we’ll start using bee tickets early this year.

This afternoon we managed planners, 5:47 of silent reading and some work on tattling versus reporting. Hopefully it sunk in!

Reading:

I have been reading A Wedding in December by Sarah Morgan. While I was not invested for the first 20%, this book has turned out to be great:). I love how Sarah Morgan is writing longer women’s fiction now that allows her to explore more relationships in greater depth in her books. This is the story of the White family coming together for the youngest daughter’s wedding.

I loved how realistic the characters and relationships are. Every member has their secret to hide, their own agenda and their own journey. The characters are flawed and yet completely lovable and the series of events keep you going at a great pace. My favourite line of the book was, “try it and I’ll let you know”. This is definitely another winner from Sarah Morgan. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

Moving Monday

It doesn’t look like we’re having Workout Wednesday this year so now we have Moving Monday:)

Exercise:

I started the day with a run, but had to content myself with the sidewalk. I could have come home on the trail, but was worried about making sure I got all my mileage in. I did manage to get 3.32km in which is fine with me:) I was faster than normal which really surprised me because it sure didn’t feel like it!

This afternoon after school we had our first bootcamp. I really tried to push myself because I’ve been feeling flabby and frumpy lately. We did: plank, mountain climbers, squat jacks, pushups to shoulder taps, front kicks, squat to shoulder press, reverse curls, front punches, bench step ups to burpees, single leg bench lunges, side lunges with hammer curls, bridge March, side wall balls. It felt great to be sweaty!

I just feel like I need to have a couple of days in a row of healthiness to get on a roll. I’m not gaining weight, but I’m not losing like I want to be:(

Teaching:

Monday is always tough as I feel like I have to retrain my students after the weekend.

The day didn’t start great as I had to encourage a mom to give her kid a hug and let her be independent. This of course, was the one who was standing waiting to be dressed last week!😖

We finally got our All About Me page done and put up, only a week late! I had some children using privacy screens so they could get their work done.

We started talking about bucket filling (being kind) and designed our own buckets. Of course right after that I had three boys go outside and have a huge fight on the playground🙄. I’m glad this stuff isn’t happening in the classroom, but I finally made it clear that they wouldn’t be going outside if they can’t handle it. I’m really not sure how much the office follows through with consequences. I was also thinking on the way home that maybe we need to put the boys in separate areas on the playground for now until they earn the privilege of playing together.

Finally this afternoon after planners and silent reading (the stamina didn’t increase today☹️), I introduced the class jobs and allowed them to pick their jobs. I’m thinking I need to keep better track of which jobs they do this year and how well they do them so it can be part of a report card comment.

That was my day and I was exhausted by the time I got home!

Eating:

I had a half a turkey and guacamole sandwich for breakfast, a breakfast taco and fruit for recess, a plum mixed with yogurt and cereal parfait for lunch and a feed of beet greens and two rice cakes with cream cheese and jam for lunch. Way too much food!!!!

Knitting:

I have finished two cowls that are the same pattern and yarn for my HPKCHC class this month. I’m glad their done and it was perfect timing as the designer got back to me with the stitch confirmation.

Well, I guess I’d better go to bed so I can get up and do it all again tomorrow.

Have fun!

The Little Things

I really have had a very quiet weekend. If you know me from this blog, you’ll know it’s not normal for me not to be accomplishing things. It has been nice though:)

Exercise:

I really had to drag myself out of bed this morning and I’m not sure why. I did join Brenda and Dennis for our run and since James still isn’t back, we did loops around Brenda. It totaled 4.62km of loops which is great as it gives me a 1.3km cushion for the week. We went a new way at Colony Farm today and it might just give us a way of lengthening this run (which would be great)! I had a nice picture of the run, but am once again out of data storage here so If you’re curious check out my Instagram at ajb1243 to see it:) I also managed to text a total stranger very early on a Sunday morning. I really did think I was texting James!🤣

Cooking:

I tackled another recipe out of the current cookbook I am using. I think I will continue with this one until the end of September and then pick another.

I had gotten the ingredients ready yesterday so it took no time to get the Scrambled Egg, Potato and Spinach Breakfast Tacos whipped up for my lunch. I can eat breakfast food any time of the day!

I found these tacos to be easy and quick to make. The first thing I noticed that I would change would be to steam the spinach rather than sauté it so that these could be slightly healthier. It was yummy with the addition of the garlic though. I felt the recipe relied too much on salt and didn’t have enough other spice and flavour ingredients. I only made six tacos so the amount of filling was fine, but I think it would be very scanty for eight tacos!

I had planned to also do the Sally’s Baking Challenge for September today, but I ran out of eggs after making the tacos so it will have to wait until next week.

I also got my parfaits ready for recess snacks this week.

Knitting:

I am still waiting for confirmation about the stitch for my hem on the Not a Boring Sweater. I see other people have finished so I am wondering if they didn’t notice the omission or are just way better knitters who didn’t need confirmation. It’s just my personality- afraid of making a mistake.

In the meantime I have finished a seed stitch cowl in green and have started the same cowl in beige. One of the HPKCHC classes this month requires you to make two equal things- so these two cowls will complete that requirement. It’s also nice to have mindless knitting while I am listening to the MTA, Knitting and Romance book podcasts:)

Reading:

I am working on finishing my next NetGalley book that is due on the 17th. This is A Wedding In December by Sarah Morgan and while I was t completely invested for the first 20%, I can barely put it down now, so I should be done soon.

Time:

One of the Marathon Training Academy podcasts I listened to today had a time management expert on it. One of the things she talked about was having only a few little expectations each day and that these will produce big results. With this in mind, I got every piece of laundry done. It feels great as usually I get my clothes all done, but not all of my towels, etc. well today, it all got done!

I also got a sweater washed. I noticed the other day that my sweaters need to be washed and it really only took a few minutes to get one done and laid out to dry. One step closer to having them all done.

Well that was my second quiet day and I’m going back to my mindless knitting and podcasts.

Have fun!

AJ

On The Couch

It has been a quiet day, even quieter than I was planning.

Medical:

I went over this morning so they could unhook me from the heart monitor. I didn’t sleep last night as I was really bothered by the sensors. I was wondering why I was being such a wimp about this when everyone I had talked to had said it was a nothing test to have done. Well when they took the sensors off they found out my skin had reacted to the sensors and the tape so I have lovely blisters everywhere I was touched. They are still burning and itchy😖😖. I just keep reminding myself that life could be much worse!

Knitting:

The blisters made for a great excuse to knit for the day. I am down to the cabled hem on the Not A Boring Sweater test knit, but am on hold right now. The pattern calls for a 2/1/2 RC Inc 1 which is not listed in the legend and which I think is

sl2 to CN1, hold to back, skip 1 to CN2, hold to front, k2, k1fb from CN2, k2 from CN1

I really don’t want to mess up at this late date though so am on hold until the designer confirms my thoughts or if one of you knows this is right.

I did something I haven’t done before and recast on the cowl for HPKCHC. I have been knitting away, but now have to decide if I should do three cowls that are all one colour or two cowls that each feature three colours. I have about the same amount of all three- a plain green, a plain tan and a variegated with red, green and tan. Your thoughts?

I have been watching Hallmark movies and listening to podcasts all day and it really has been a lovely way to spend a rainy day:)

Kitchen Time:

I was supposed to do the Sally’s Baking Challenge for September today, but it just didn’t happen. I was also supposed to make breakfast tacos out of my current cookbook, but that didn’t happen either. I did however make rice pudding and get the ingredients ready to make the tacos tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll also get to the bread tomorrow.

Well, I’m back to watching Frozen in Love for the third time🤣

Have fun!

AJ

2 Down, 38 To Go

It’s so hard to believe that another whole week is gone! It wasn’t my typical day today.

Exercise:

I got up early for a workout with L. We did sprint intervals and I got to add 4.22km to my yearly mileage. These sprint intervals felt way easier than the hills last week! We then did 3 sets of squats with a shoulder press, hamstring curls, sit ups, calf raises, skipping and burpees. It felt great to get a workout done, but I was dripping sweat!

Good thing I got up early for that because I have done nothing else active today.

Blog Hop:

Since I didn’t teach today and can’t go a day without talking about school, I will do another day of Teacher Turned Mommy’s awesome back to school blog Hop.

A new box of crayons are so exciting to me! I actually like getting any new supplies like this. First of all, I try to keep them in their original order for as long as possible (yes I am one of those types🤣). I love when crayons are brand new because they are sharp, as soon as they have lost their sharp point, I don’t seem to love them as much.

I remember as a kid there was only one box of Crayola 8 crayons available, now there seem to be as many different crayon options out there as there are objects to draw. I haven’t had one of the bigger boxes so I’m not sure, but I think they might just overwhelm me with the choice🤣

The other thing I love about a new box of crayons are the names of the colors. I always inspect the names and find it very interesting which ones are chosen. I don’t know what happened to just red, green, blue, purple, grey, black, yellow, and white. Now I regularly have children asking to borrow sienna, mulberry, and sunflower!

Medical:

After loading the dishwasher, taking out the garbage and having my first nap of the day, I went off to start my holter test. If you’re unaware this is where they put five sensors at certain areas of your chest and you wear a heart monitor for twenty four hours. The worst part is the netting they put over top to keep everything in place. You can’t change, shower or get wet for those twenty four hours:(. I am super itchy and some of the sensors burn, but I was told that was normal when you have sensitive skin. The whole thing doesn’t hurt, but I’m super aware of it. I just can’t wait for it to be over at this point!

Knitting:

I have to write down absolutely every time I get up so after a couple of errands to get gas, etc I have mainly been sitting on the couch. I had a second nap of the day and now I have gotten to row 70 of 80 of the body decreases and am waiting to hear from the designer if I can skip the last ten rows and start the increases. I’m not sure if this is allowed in a test knit, but I’m short and I don’t think I need another ten rows of decreasing:(. We shall see what she says.

While I am waiting for an answer, I did something I never do, and casted on another project. This is going to be a fall coloured cowl that will hopefully fulfill my HPKCHC September class requirement. Hopefully it will also get another three skeins out of the stash.

Well I’m on my fourth Hallmark movie of the day and will get back to the cowl.

Have fun!

AJ

Bookends

It actually turned out to not be a bad day, outside of school 🤣

Exercise:

I did a lot of exercise today! I started the day with 3.18km run to the park and back. I was going to go to the bridge, but decided not to in car I ended up running again.

I actually did end up doing another 6.25km this evening with Dennis and Kathryn. I got an email late this afternoon and decided to leave work early to make sure that I got out with them. I was worried that I would be significantly slower, but it turned out okay.

Teaching:

Today was interesting! The honeymoon period is definitely starting to wear off. Today we had a cutting lesson and cut out our stars- they did pretty good. We also made an art project this afternoon where all of the students decorated a hand and it was used to make a flower. I wish I had taken a picture to show you as t turned out cute:)

I had one little guy who started fighting on the playground over Pokémon cards and right after he got talked to about that, he started making farting noises on my carpet😖😖😖. I had another little guy who had to talk to the principal but couldn’t remember what it was about🤔. I had two little girls who disobeyed the EA and went to the washroom together. Thankfully these things are mostly happening when they aren’t with me!

We got everything planned and prepped for next week so hopefully the week to come will be slightly calmer!

Blog Hop:

Thanks to Teacher Turned Mommy for hosting a back to school blog hop. I am a few days behind, but hopefully I’ll get caught up!

Apples- some of my best teaching moments when I started teaching were around apples. I went crazy and bought apples and the children had a taste test, we also made apple sauce and did apple prints. It was so much fun and it had great hands on moments of teaching.

In real life, I love apples! I like to eat Gala apples raw and with peanut butter or cheese. I also will make apple rounds and put peanut butter, raisins and coconut on top.

I will often also cut up an apple and throw it into a ziplock bag with a tiny bit of water and some cinnamon. It makes a great sweet snack without being unhealthy:)

I also love baking with apples, though I try to always use a mixture of apples. There is nothing like apple crisp at this time of the year.

Make sure you check out Teacher Turned Mommy- her posts are always interesting!

Knitting:

It was great to get ten rows knitted on my Not a Boring Sweater:)

Ok I have to hit bed as I have an early workout in the morning:)

Have fun!

AJ

A Little further

Each day I’m just trying to get a little further ahead in my preparations for the year.

Exercise:

A 3.14km run the opposite way this morning. Have to remember that when I go this way I have to go to the bridge either coming or going to make up the distance.

The best part of the run was when the golden retriever cane running at me and then proceeded to lean against me🤣

This evening I got a weights workout done. It included three sets of 12 of the following:

Bicep curls, shoulder press, tricep kickbacks, upright rows, squats, plie squats, calf raises, deadlifts, crunches, and reverse crunches.

Teaching:

Another very long day, but hopefully I’m making progress. I had forgotten that I had a prep today so my morning consisted only of calendar and then getting as much done as possible .

After recess we had quiet time, and then tackled our safety tips. I love reading the book Officer Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathman because the pictures tell a whole different story so not only do I cover school safety, but I also start on the reading idea of looking at the picture as a reading strategy. We had a great giggle and then wrote our own safety tips on paper stars. Tomorrow we will have a lesson on cutting and the children will cut them out.

Finally this afternoon we got our planners and wrote a message in them ( it took forever!), we also tried out silent reading for the first time and managed five minutes. Finally we read the book The Best Part of Me and wrote a class book having each student name the best part of themselves. It was a lesson to me to put better pictures on the board. I had drawn a quick sketch beside each body part they named so they could find the word again, but I found they just copied my pictures on their page. It makes for a very interesting book🤣

Finally we cleaned up and went outside.

After school I got the journal books labeled, the hands and background cut out for art tomorrow afternoon, he job chart names made and I started on my timetable. My list never seems to go down.

Knitting:

I made a quick run to Michael’s to grab a gift card for my volunteer and am now going to sit down for twenty minutes and knit a few rows.

Have fun!
