Day 3

Well another day of quiet. Sorry this is going to get really repetitive, very quickly不

Visiting:

I had decided that I needed a third option beyond reading and knitting and since I knew I wouldn’t clean, I decided to get a puzzle. Thankfully my friend Brenda had one I could borrow that I knew would have all the pieces. This was my one very careful outing of the day, and yes we ensured we were several feet apart:)

Exercise:

I was on the couch knitting again today, though I am proud to say I tidied the hallway and swept it and the living room before I sat down. However when it came to exercise, I just wasn’t motivated. That is until I realized I could run over to pick up my buttons.

The trail and the park were super busy as we’ve had gorgeous sunshine here, though it is cold!

My run ended up being 4.4km which is a little less than I was expecting, but I wasn’t willing to do more不

This evening I got re-energized and did a simple workout. I jogged for one minute between a minute of these exercises:

High knees, front kicks, butt kicks, roundhouse kicks, squat with side leg lift, squat with back leg lift, back kick, pli矇 squats, crunches, static crunch with scissor legs, knee tucks, reverse crunch, bicycle crunches and a plank.

I seem to really get into ruts with the type of workout I do. I wonder if it will move to a new one or return to Hallmark ones?

Baking:

I did the dishes this afternoon, just to turn around and make more.

I had to make a chocolate dish for an outdoor, small activity tomorrow so I texted Brenda to see if she knew of a recipe that uses only cocoa powder (after I discovered I had no chocolate chips). She passed along this recipe and it was great!

Set oven to 350. In an 8×8 pan, mix :

1.25cups flour

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

0.5tsp cinnamon

0.5tsp salt

When well mixed, pour in:

1 cup milk

0.3 cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp lemon juice

1tsp vanilla

Bake for 35-40 minutes.

This literally took minutes to put together, seems to have adapted to gf and df well, and was done by the time I finished my workout!

I’ll let you know how it tastes tomorrow:). I do plan to top it with cherry pie filling and cocoa whip if there is any at the store.

Knitting:

I have to admit to spending most of the day knitting again.

I made more I cord headbands. These are still super easy and quick to make and I’m so glad to have a pattern to use up the tiny ends of yarn!

I started the spindrift shawl in the grey and loved it, but then realized the gray could be perfect for the jeweled cowl and so far, I really think it is!

I am getting better at the beading, but the seed beads are so small that even with my smallest crochet hook, many of them don’t fit. I think I would love knitting with beads if the beads were slightly bigger. Though no matter what, I’m happy to finally be getting beading off my craft to-do list!

I have just started the spindrift shawl in a recycled tan yarn. I think this project will be perfect for tomorrow’s social outing. I can keep my distance and accomplish something:)

Reading:

Well that’s it for me as I stayed up way too late reading last night. I read the book, Blitzed by Alexa Martin. This is the third book in her playbook series. I highly recommend this series as they are fun, but also usually have a small taste of something serious. I think the best part of this book was the hero. He just kept doing swoony things and who can resist a quiet, shy guy who only talks to the woman meant for him. It was a good read:)

Have fun!

Workout Wednesday Prevailed

I really didn’t plan on a lot of activity today, but it happened anyway.

Eating:

I was still so full from pub food from last night that I haven’t been very hungry today. I’ve had: shrimp plate (boy do I love the Costco shrimp plate), Greek salad, 6 crackers and cheese.

Reading:

I finished the second book in Alexa Martin’s Playbook series, called Fumbled. I think I liked this book even more than the first (which is saying a lot) because the drama was dialed back a bit and it had a deeper issue in it. It’s still another awesome beach read and I can’t imagine that I have to wait for December for the third book!!!

Knitting:

I am knitting away on the blanket, but the ball of yarn isn’t getting smaller and the blanket doesn’t seem to be getting bigger. I have promised myself that I will use the whole ball of yarn so I don’t have to add it to my stash count, but I think this may turn into a full size afghan. I really wish I was knitting a sweater right now!

Socializing:

I met up with my friend Anna and her two sons today. I always love spending time with them as the boys are adorable and so well behaved. Anna really is amazing with them. We walked over to the playground (getting a tea on the way) and just hung out and played with the boys. It was such a lovely afternoon!!!

Sammy insisted on wearing his “helmet” as Ruben had to wear his because he was on his bike.

Exercise:

I really planned on just my one run this morning. I went out and around the park this morning. Of course it managed to pour rain on me for about ten minutes in the middle of it. I definitely saw that reflected in my pace as I slowed to try and figure out how to protect my phone:( The run really was fine though and I felt strong. I did 4.52km at a 6:45 average. I know that’s not fast for most people, but it’s decent for me.

This afternoon my friend Sarah texted me to see if I wanted to run Bert Flynn with her. I’m not one to ever turn down a run, so of course I said yes. We did about 4km around the trails in there and it was lovely and cool as the day had heated up. When I run with Sarah, I keep in mind that I have a mileage goal this year, not a pace goal. I just slow down and enjoy the scenery and the company as it isn’t often I have company!

I haven’t decided what to do about my trail run tomorrow night. I’m not super excited about going for a few reasons. Now that Dennis has broken his foot, I really won’t know anyone, they are obsessed with elevation and that’s not what I was looking for, my knees hurt from all the up and down:(. I’ve paid for it though and know it’s good for me and it would get me out of my comfort zone. Ugh why do pros and cons have to be even?!?!

As I was knitting away this evening I was listening to another episode of the Marathon Training Academy podcast. It was about weight loss for marathoners. It was great to listen to this, even though I’m not a marathoner, because my goal this summer has been to get back to my favourite weight/shape where I feel amazing. I was reminded of a lot of good things by this podcast and recommend it for anyone who needs some tips or reminders. They also set out an easy weights workout that I was inspired to do this evening.

I did 3 sets of 15 reps or 30 seconds of the following:

Forward lunges

Squats (while getting my butt as far down towards the ground as possible)

Calf raises

Plank

Side plank

Superman

Bridge

I did each of these slower than usual so I could really ensure proper form. It was a nice, quick workout and only took 22 minutes, but at least it was something!

Well I’m going to go watch a movie and knit again.

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday #15

It was an unplanned day that turned out to have fun in it.

Exercise:

My run this morning was a struggle. I had decided to try walking over to Murray Street before starting to see if that helped my pace, but I don’t know if it helped, hurt or just messed with me mentally. I definitely didn’t like that I only clocked 4.2km, rather than the 5.1km I should have gotten! I think I’ll go back to just starting slow as I go across the street.

I also got a workout in this afternoon. It was a countdown workout.

50 jacks, 50 crunches

45 jacks, 45 squats

40 jacks, 40 lunges

35 jacks, 35 pushups

30 jacks, 30 high knees

25 jacks, 25 crunches

20 jacks, 20 squats

15 jacks, 15 lunges

10 jacks, 10 pushups

5 jacks, 5 burpees

I was definitely a hot, sweaty mess by the end. I’m really thinking I want to find a good weights workout though.

Shopping:

This past week when it was pouring, I found out that my Helly Hanson rain jacket had torn along the seam on the inside. I know I’m not tough on my clothing, so this morning I drove it back to the HH store where I bought it. They have sent it in to be repaired and it will be delivered to my home so I don’t have to make the 45 minute drive again. Yay!

Knitting:

I have gotten another three pattern repeats done on the blanket today. I really wish I hadn’t casted on so many stitches so it would go faster!!!

Family:

My nephew texted today to see if we could go for ice cream. I’m always happy to spend any time I can with that kid, so off I went. He actually bought me the ice cream this time. He’s growing up so much!! He also kept me company at Costco and helped me carry stuff. Of course it cost me a slice of Costco pizza, but it was a price I was happy to pay for spending time with him!

Reading:

I finished Intercepted by Alexa Martin today. It was so good! I was captured from the first page! The characters were interesting, the plot had a good pace, and the drama was appropriate for the professional sports world. I would recommend this as another good beach read! I also immediately started on the next book in the series, Fumbled.

Eating:

Rice cake with peanut butter and jam

Greek salad

Ice cream

salmon bowl over greens and some nachos (I’m way too full!)

Trivia:

Tonight trivia was a theme night about The Office. It was just my co-teacher Liane, her husband Eli and myself. I know absolutely nothing about this show, but managed to get two questions right.

In which state does The Office take place?

Pennsylvania

Who did they initially want to play the character that Rainn Wilson plays?

Seth Rogen

I have no idea how I knew those two things, but I did. Thankfully Liane had amazing knowledge and we sat at 4th for a while:)

I contributed my neat printing and Eli contributed knowledge of the show and the idea that I should go on a date between each Hallmark movie I watch不不不

Well, I’m back to reading.

Have fun!

Running, Reading and Relaxing

It was a day of R activities, but all good:)

Exercise:

I had arranged to meet a friend for my run this morning. She would be walking, but it would allow me to run on the dyke, rather than just doing the usual.

I was aiming for seven kilometers, but we got to talking and I started running late. I was feeling strong and got 4.32km in under the blazing sun. I need to remember to get out at 6 in this heat as 9:30 was way too hot!

I also got a walk in this evening for an hour and a half and 100 reps of core exercises. I’m thinking I’ll do a tough workout every other day so that my legs don’t suffer so much, but on the other days I need to do core and stretching.

I got a quick stop for more gray yarn and some other essentials and then headed home.

Knitting:

I’ve only gotten one pattern repeat done today which is disappointing as I want to get this blanket done so I can get onto a cute summer top I keep picturing.

I have always organized my yarn by colour, but I’ve run into a problem. I bought yarns in two different colours this past weekend and don’t want to separate them. Anyone have an organization solution for me?

Reading:

I finished Playing House by Ruby Lang today, my latest NetGalley book.

The story of Fay and Oliver. They work in the same industry so have known each other for a long time, but one Saturday at a house tour changes their relationship. It moves fast, but its really not until they slow down that it becomes real.

These characters were very interesting. Fay is a partner in a urban planning firm while, Oliver is a freelance planner specializing in historical preservation. They are both driven in their own way, but also with many doubts about their failures in life.

The plot moves very quickly, but it does not read unrealistically. It keeps you moving through the book and wanting to know what happens next.

There is humor and introspection in good balance.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants a light read or enjoys architecture or home renovations along with their romance.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author and publisher for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have since started the book, Intercepted by Alexa Martin and am loving it so far!

My not one, but two naps today are the relaxing part of my day. I just couldn’t seem to stay awake!

Well there you have it- my running, reading and relaxing.

Have fun!
