Quiet Relaxing

My friend and her husband came down sick in the night so my lunch was cancelled today and I decided to make it a quiet day.


I did drag myself out for a 4.2km run this morning. I started one way but it was blocked by construction so ended up just doing my regular run. I was super tired again but think I’ll hold off going to the doctor in the hopes it’s just a virus.

I also worked out this afternoon. It’s called a 400 workout. You do two sets of: 25 squats, 25 hip Bridges, 25 pushups, 25 rows, 50 mogul jumps, 50 mountain climbers.

I probably should have done some more repeats because it was short, but I didn’t 🤪

This evening I went out for a walk, but it decided to drizzle on me so I did half the inlet and cane back home.


I am almost done my first sleeve:)


I finished two books today.

Galahad in Jeans by Jennifer Blake was very cute, but just didn’t feel realistic to me.

Helen Heals a Hotelier by Linda K Hubelek was also cute. It moves quite quickly, but was an easy, enjoyable read.

I have also been listening to Portrait of a Lady by Henry James on LibriVox and have been really enjoying it.

Tomato, basil and vegan bocconcini skewers and chicken for dinner.

The skewers were so good and they fulfilled my summer bucket list item of using my herbs!

Thursday Trails

It was a busy day, but busy with fun stuff!


I knew I had trail clinic tonight so I started the day with just a walk. It was a nice way to get out and enjoy the clouds.

This evening we did a run to jug island. This is one of my favourite hikes, but I don’t think of it as a great run because you just end up having to hike a lot of it. There’s a lot of up and down hill that is super technical. We definitely weren’t going fast! In fact we were going so slow that Squad Runner didn’t even give me any points. Part of it is that the leader keeps stopping. It drives me crazy! I should have dug my phone out to pause it, I guess.


This morning I met up with the teacher who is next door to me at school and we went to Chapters to buy the Bookclub books for next year. It is amazing how quickly we can have a huge stack of books! We look for a variety of genres, nothing over 300 pages or $10 and make sure that the books are available at both of our local libraries. It was so much fun!


I finished another book off my kindle app, called Getting Wrapped Up by Erin Nicholas. It is part of the series I have been reading, but I have to admit that this one is my least favourite. It had some weird parts and was definitely steamier than sweet.

Between a late lunch with my friend and my next social engagement I managed to finish the front of my cardigan and start the first sleeve. I really need to look up how to do sleeves two at a time as I think it would be really nice to be done both at once!

I also had a lovely nap at this time:)


My friend Michelle is off to Amsterdam for the summer so I met up with her and another friend for Happy Hour. I was just drinking water as I knew I had a run, but was feeling uncomfortable when the waitress kept asking if we wanted anything. I ordered fries and knew it was a mistake!

My friend Katie did give me the good idea of dragging my mom to Leavenworth. I have been trying to figure out where to go for a short holiday and I have read about Leavenworth and had it been the setting in a book I’ve read and a movie I’ve seen. I’ll have to do some research.

Well I’m off to bed!

Today and Yesterday

The first day of holidays was lovely!


I laugh that I had to get up even earlier than usual for my run this morning, but that’s okay because I had company:)

We ran Coquitlam River which was really quiet at that hour which made it even better!

The one thing I’ve noticed was that I was very stiff when I got up this evening from sitting and I’m wondering if it’s because I didn’t do the dynamic stretches this morning? I’ll have to do them tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.


I have to admit that I spent a large part of today cleaning and reading. I love the idea of having a clean house, but I have to bribe myself with reading breaks. I read Getting Worked Up by Erin Nicholas. Phoebe and Joe are working together to help each other get married to their best friends, but things quickly go awry.

I didn’t really love the premise of this book at the beginning, but the characters did grow on me. I think it was the small town background that saved this book for me. It also turned out to be on the steamy side, rather than the sweet.


I had scrambled eggs after my run this morning. A Kind bar and some fake cheese mid day and then the tuna poke bowl this evening for dinner. So not bad for the first day of holiday:)

Socializing/ Movie:

I had arranged to meet up with my friend Allison (who is here from Boston), Melissa and Suzanne for dinner and a movie. We had dinner at Browns Socialhouse and the tuna poke bowl was extremely yummy!

We then went and saw the movie, Yesterday. It’s about a world without the Beatles and then one guy remembers them and sings their songs as his own. It was really well done and interesting g right from the start. As Suzanne said, it’s great because it’s introducing the next generation to music they may not know. I would definitely recommend seeing it:)

Very Quiet

It was lovely to have a quiet day that felt a little productive too:)


I got out for a lovely 6km run this morning with Dennis.

Sorry you always get the same picture as it never changes🤣. We did see three planes take off though as that’s a small municipal airport I’m running beside.

I know it’s probably just in my head, but my legs actually felt stronger this morning. I’d like to think it’s because of the exercise I’ve been doing. I also loved that I ran to the hedge and considered it short. I remember the days I used to tell everyone to go ahead, that I was turning around, now I’m the one wanting to go further:)

This afternoon I got out for a quick walk just because it was too lovely not to:)

Finally this evening I did my exercises again, just in case that’s what made my run so good this morning. I did: 50 squats, 50 plié squats, 25 front lunges, 25 lateral lunges, 25 curtsy lunges, 25 back lunges, 100 front kicks, 100 back kicks, 100 side kicks, 100 hamstring curls, 100 standing crunches, 33 calf raises, 100 jabs, 100 hooks, 100 uppercuts, 100 heel and toe touches.

It was nice to get all this movement in:)


I managed to get all the laundry done and the dishes and I love how “doing” these things allowed me to lay on the couch reading my books🤣


Making my way through The Wangs Versus the World and to offset this, Getting Out of Hand by Erin Nicholas.

This is the story of a brilliant scientist who meets a woman when he returns to his hometown. It is definitely a case of insta-live but was an enjoyable, quick, easy read. One character drove me crazy, but I won’t let ruin the book for me.

Dinner- bun with smoked salmon cream cheese


I’ve quite enjoyed watching a hallmark movie called My Christmas Love tonight. Johnny Campo is so nice to look at and I really liked his character in this movie. I have to admit I found the leading lady annoying. She’s a ditz so if that is what she was going for- she did a great job!

Well I’m going to go finish my book!

Solitary Saturday

It was a very quiet day and I’m not sure how I feel about that right now.


I headed out for a run first thing this morning and realized quite quickly it wasn’t going to work. I was wearing the only runners that don’t hurt my toes, but every other part of my foot was hurting!

I came home, cleaned my house and then went and bought new runners before heading out again.

The second run went much better! I got a total of 4.8km in which is good enough for the first day of June:)

I also went for a 5km walk this evening, just because it was gorgeous!


After cleaning up, I headed out to do some errands. I was on my way to three towns over for strawberries when I decided to take my usual route. I am so happy I did as the farm I bought berries from last year had their sign up!!! I got a flat of strawberries and can’t wait to play with my new canner tomorrow! I may also use some for a fruit salad for my breakfasts this week.

I also managed to stop and pick up the last three Canada beach balls I needed for my student year end gifts. Now I just have to figure out how to package them for the kids.


I spent most of the gorgeous afternoon sitting on my deck reading. I finished the book, Just This Once by Mira Lynn Kelly. It was an enjoyable read, but I didn’t like the book as much as the two others I’ve read in that series.


I have been a knitting machine all afternoon and have managed to finish the body of the baby cardigan. I just have to tackle the sleeves!


Breakfast- turkey and cheese on a scone

Lunch- cheese on 16 corn tortilla chips

Snack- another 14 corn tortilla chips with cheese- they were just so good!

Dinner- chicken and greens

Not a bad day, but probably too much salt. I think I’d better try to limit my salt as I’m finding my hands and feet are swollen a lot.


I’ve just turned on The Dater’s Handbook. It’s cute so far, though I have to admit I’m distracted by thinking that Meghan Markle went from the to being a princess!

I Got to Run With Someone!

It was a really nice day, despite the rain!


I slept late and spent the morning doing a tour of fifteen different garage sales with Liane, my co-teacher. We do this twice a year for the city wide garage sales and it’s a lot of fun finding treasures. This time wasn’t quite as much fun as usual because it poured rain and was super cold the whole time. I did find a few things, but the best were three knitting the books! The lady was very surprised to learn I knit, but we ended up having a good conversation. The books are:

I’ll be starting a pattern from the last book tomorrow for my friend’s son.

I did finally call a halt as I couldn’t feel my fingers anymore.


I was just walking up the stairs to my place when I got a text from my mom saying she was coming up the stairs at the other end of the building. What great timing! She had brought me a rotisserie chicken to exchange for the chicken wings🤣 so not necessary!

I did finally get to give her her gift which means I can show you what I did. Keep in mind, none of my gifts ever end up looking great🤣

I had to use a plastic canister so she can easily move it from boat to trailer and back again, but hopefully she’ll enjoy it for the next year:)

While my mom went to get a card for my aunt, I dragged her over to the running store so she could tell me whether the Buff hat I’ve been eyeing looked okay or not. I have a difficult time finding a hat that doesn’t look too big! I did end up buying it and it looks similar to this one but without the dark section. I like that it will go with all my running jackets:)


I dragged myself out for a run this afternoon. It was tough to go out as it was gray and dreary and I was still cold from this morning. Of course, once I was out there it turned warm and sunny (which I wasn’t dressed for)! I commented on this to a woman when I was about halfway through my run, and I ended up completing my run with her! 😀 Turns our she is a local girl like me who did the garage sales this morning and is a teacher at the middle school that my school feeds into. So cool! The run went really fast with someone to talk to. Now I just have to decide if it’s stalkerish to email her at work on Monday to give her my phone number to text if she’s ever wanting company on a run again???


After dropping off some hangers a lady bought from me, I have spent the afternoon knitting and reading. I finally finished my socks and am completely happy with them. They actually haven’t left my feet yet. I used the Rose City Rollers pattern again, but the XL in the littles edition and it fits perfectly. I love this pattern for a quick, easy sock. I keep telling myself I should do a different sock, but these ones are just so perfect…

The yarn was a sock yarn from Michael’s years ago and it doesn’t have the tag attached anymore so I’m not sure what it is.


I finished reading The Bride Test by Helen Hoang this evening. I had loved her book The Kiss Quotient and was pleasantly surprised when this book turned out to be the sequel and featured a lot of the same characters. This second book may have been even better! I read it in a day and couldn’t put it down! The characters are great! The autistic male lead is very realistic and portrayed well. The female lead is a strong character who has had a tough road in life, but isn’t afraid of a little hard work to improve her circumstances. The plot does not lag at all and has a really good pace! I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy chick lit!

Track Meet

It was quite the day!


Well we went to the district track meet today. Students in grades 3,4 and 5 get to compete in discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, 100 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters, medley relay and 4×100 relay. We took 39 kids which is a lot less than usual, and it went pretty well! We had one child have three melt downs, we had another go to the park and tell a parent, but not a teacher, and we had two parents drive me crazy about drivers (I hope I don’t get into trouble!). Overall, not a bad day:)


I survived L’s bootcamp after school too. The tabatas increased in length by five seconds. The first four pairs were:

Elevated bicycles/side mountain climbers

Double banded squat to abductors/ banded single arm row

Medicine ball slam to squat jump/ standing crunch

Banded hip bridge/ iso bridge with tricep extensions

We did thirty seconds of frog jumps between each of these.

The next four were:

Banded bench superwoman to abductor/ banded pulse squat with alternate leg lift

Lateral lunge to upright row

Lateral step up with hop

Bench crossovers

We did thirty seconds of burpees between each of these.

It’s funny because at the time I was super hot, sweaty and tired, but as I write this I want to get up and do more of some of these🤣

This evening I missed my run since I was napping, but I did go to Zumba. The instructor is so happy! I still am going the wrong way most of the time, but there’s the odd move that I’m starting to get. I told my friend Cori that I need some tutorials on some of the moves!


I finally finished Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. The storyline was good, and I especially liked how the ending showed the future, however, the character of Hazel drove me nuts. She is portrayed as a woman who has no filter and no self control, but she’s a teacher. She wouldn’t last a Day in the classroom without self control and a filter. This drove me crazy through the whole book!😖


I only got one row of my sock done. Just too tired and ended up falling asleep.


Another not great day- I guess I don’t deal with change in routine well.

Breakfast- scone with peanut butter

Recess: grape tomatoes with everything but the bagel seasoning

Lunch: coconut chips

Snack: gummy bears (a student bought them for me when his mom gave him money for a snack at the concession- he even made sure they said gf😀)

Dinner: granola

This is starting to be a pattern and I don’t like it!


My Saturday morning is supposed to start with a long run with my running buddy Sarah, but this morning I waited and waited and didn’t hear from her until 9:15 at which time I didn’t have enough time for a long run because I was supposed to meet someone at 10:30 (which also got cancelled at the last minute). This is not the first time this type of scenario has happened with Sarah- she’s the queen of bailing on runs. I just need to figure out how to stop this or find a new running buddy (which is tough when you’re not Boston qualifier fast)😢. I tried setting a time with Sarah, but that was even worse, so I’m just not sure what to do:(

I did get my 50 banded squats, 50 plié squats, 25 forward lunges, 25 lateral lunges, 25 backward lunges, 25 curtsy lunges, 25 crunches, 25 reverse crunches, 25 bicycle crunches, 25 Russian twists, 50 pushups and 50 dips done this morning before I headed out.

I also met up with Brenda for a walk through the new biking trails in the woods by her place. It was a gorgeous, cool spot for a walk today.

This evening I got myself out the door for a run by telling myself I could do as little as just one kilometer. I ended up doing 3.6km and seeing three of my students. It was fast for me though so I’m okay with the short length.


I picked up my knitting for the first time in a long time and got the heel done on my first sock.


yesterday the secretary at work was saying she wanted to see Poms, the new Diane Keaton movie. I told her that if she didn’t find anyone I wanted to see it too. I thought it was going to be just a fluffy movie, but it actually has quite a serious and sad thread running through it. I really enjoyed the movie and would recommend it. I also enjoyed the company and hopefully this will just be the first of many movie dates with the school secretary:)


I’m having to read two books at once, which isn’t my favourite. I’m making my way through Short for the kids Bookclub and through Josh And Hazel’s Guide To Not Dating. What is it with ditzy female lead characters? I’m going to need to find something with a strong woman lead character next!


It wasn’t the best day and I think it’s because I didn’t have a plan.

I’ve eaten:

A hard boiled egg, a mini cinnamon raisin scone, yogurt, an RX bar (won’t be buying another), celery with cheese, a cookie, a tilapia filet (with everything but the bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s that is wonderful!!!)

Oh well, it’s not horrible, but it’s not great.

I’m off to work on my mom’s present again.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, but especially mine! I got another great surprise invite this afternoon:)


I really do have the best mom ever! This morning I got a text first thing, thanking me for being her kid. I told her, we’re supposed to be thanking her today, not the other way around! I have my super secret Mother’s Day gift ready for when she pops in next week:)


This morning I met up with Dennis for a run. It was just the two of us as the others were all away visiting their moms. I was again aiming for 10km, but only made 8.3km. The Mexican food from last night wasn’t helping matters, though it was a lovely spot to run along the dykes this morning!

I also had a lovely walk to Old Orchard Park this evening. It was such a nice evening and I had great company!


I got a lot done after my run tea as I was avoiding doing the track stuff for school. I got my dishes washed, laundry done, plants watered, items up for sale, hallway tidied, food made for next week, etc. I’m always amazed during these energetic spurts!


I did finally sit down and was working on my track stuff for school when my friend Cori texted to see if I was home. I love invites like this. We wandered around and got some of her errands and my errands done:). Cori says two guys were trying to have conversations with me, but I completely didn’t clue into that:(. 🤣 In other news, Mom, they had my blue wine at the liquor store again!!!😀


I was doing really well in my eating today!

Breakfast: yogurt

The Chobani non dairy strawberry yogurt was my first yogurt to try. It was a little thin, not as thick as I would have liked, but it had a really good, deep strawberry taste and there was a good amount of it. I would buy it again:)

Lunch: salad with tomatoes and blue cheese dressing

I ended up having dinner with Cori as her kids had all abandoned her for their grandmother today. We went to Browns Social House and they wouldn’t let us sit on the patio because the weather was supposed to change, but it was gorgeous and quiet out there! We both had a social club drink and then we split the chicken wings and the ahi tuna poke bowl. I had been wanting to have one and it was really good!

See this keeps happening- I’m having a really good eating day and then I get invited out! I’m just not willing to give up being social to lose these pounds though so I’ll just continue to be good around these meals. At least I didn’t come home and make the cookies or scones I was planning to. Tomorrow🤣


I got an ARC from Kait Nolan called Dancing Away With My Heart. What an awesome book!

Zach and Lexi bonded in high school over their love of photography, but after a horrible moment they haven’t talked in ten years. When Lexi comes home to help her mom, she knows she can’t avoid him.

This was an amazing read! The characters are interesting and human and have such incredible real ness to them. They just got and seem perfect for each other in every way.

I love how the events unfold over time in the book. You don’t learn all the secrets in the first chapter:)

It was only enhanced by the friend circle of Wishful being present. It makes you want to be a part of this group and gave a great update on some of the characters.

I think people who like friends to more stories will truly enjoy this story.

Well, I think I’m going to enjoy my next book on my couch.

Surprise Invitation

Saturday turned out better than expected for me:)


I have to admit to getting a little ticked. Normally Sarah and I meet around 8:45 for our run on Saturday, but yesterday it was 10:45:( We we’re doing the local dyke run and there was no shade to be seen and it was 22 degrees when we started. Needless to say we didn’t make the full ten we had planned:( 7.6km would have to do.

This is where we were, but picture it with beaming hot sun instead of clouds🤣


I did manage to finish my latest Net Galley book, Puppy Love by Lucy Gilmore. This book is about Sophie and Harrison. Harrison is a wildfire firefighter who has diabetes that has gotten the better of him lately. In order to go back to the job he loves he has to have a service dog. Enter Sophie, a woman who trains service dogs.

The information about service dogs was super interesting in this book! I had no idea that there were service dogs for diabetics.

I did find the characters were well described and portrayed, however, they weren’t really to my taste.

If you are interested in service dogs you would probably enjoy this book.


I was prepared for a quiet day at home on the couch, but I got an unexpected text from my friend Michelle. She was heading to the states for a quick shopping trip and wanted me to come along. I jumped at this as she was going places I had never been.

We started with the Bass Outlet, but everything there was too big for me:(

We then headed to Burlington Coat Factory. Michelle found a cute tank, but once again I struck out. That was okay with me though as I’ve always wanted to go there!

After that we stopped for dinner and then headed to Trader Joe’s. I have always wanted to go to Trader Joe’s as people told me it would be the perfect place for me. I did find the store incredibly busy!!! I concentrated on products I couldn’t find at home and did find a few things to try:)

From Trader Joe’s we headed to Fred Meyer. I again bought a few food items I hadn’t seen at home, and there will probably be a lot of non-dairy yogurt reviews over the next few days 🤣. The most exciting thing about Fred Meyer though was that they had a great kids shoe department! I got to try on fifteen different pairs of shoes! Thankfully I only came home with two pairs:)

After this it was a quick stop for gas and then home again.


I was having an excellent eating day and the plan was to be super careful on this weekend where I would just be staying home. This was derailed by my shopping trip. I had:

Breakfast: 2 egg omelet with celery

Lunch: lettuce, Caesar dressing and tilapia filet

Snack: coconut chips

Dinner: chips, salsa, guacamole, 2 tacos

I forgot how big portions are in the states. This was their small combo, of which I ate very little.

The food was great, but next time I will know just to get one “side taco” so it doesn’t come with all this other food as it’s wasted on me.

Well I’m off to get on with my day!
