A Good Day

It was a lovely quiet morning with a surprisingly fun party this evening:)

Exercise:

It felt so good to get a workout in with Lyndsay today!!! We did 31 minutes on the treadmill- rolling hills and then did three sets of weight exercises.  It’s amazing that it took one workout and felt better!

Reading:

I had a quiet morning of hanging out with Banks and reading. Lol I couldn’t read my book though as I needed to catch up on my wordpress reading.  It took me hours!!  I’m hoping that now that I’m caught up I’ll be able to finish my Mitch Albom book!

Christmas Movies:

I watched Love Actually today which is one of my favourite movies. I should have watched it on DVD however as the tv changed things. I find it amazing that we allow so much violence on tv but will change a movie so there is no curse word.

Tea:

Today’s tea was Sleigh Ride. I have had this tea before as a guy I dated had bought it for me for Christmas one year.  I love this tea as it’s never bitter and yet it’s not overwhelming either.

Baking:

I am participating in the Fantastic Bake Along- Cherry Tarts Edition that is hosted by Tracy at T Sweets Day.  Lol it was an experience making these tarts as I’m at my brother’s place. My sister in law is an amazing cook but obviously doesn’t bake as I had to roll out the dough with a can of whip cream.  They turned out pretty enough but I wish I had managed to roll the dough out thinner so there was less dough and more filling!

These were super quick and easy to make and I would definitely add them to any dessert tray this time of year! The only change I had to make to make them allergen friendly was to use gluten free flour.  I did not do the icing on top as I felt they were sweet enough but I planned to use dairy free milk in it.

Socializing:

After working out with Lyndsay, we both quickly went home to clean up and then I met up with her and her son Brady to go to a Christmas party a colleague had invited us both too.  This worked great for me as I really don’t like walking into an event alone! The social anxiety was also limited by the peppermint martinis that were being served. I walked in the door, the older kids stole Brady away and we were handed drinks. They were super yummy!! The cool thing was that the bottle of peppermint vodka was scratch and sniff! The bottle didn’t smell at all until you scratched it and then it smelled yummy!  I wasn’t expecting to, but ended up having a really good time! The renter from downstairs just came up and said he would help out with Banks if I needed it. Just too bad he didn’t say this before I left the party early to come home and let Banks out.

Well I must go back to my full time job of throwing the ball for Banks.  He’s a taskmaster!

Have fun!

Sorry

Sorry there was no post up last night. My phone had died and I fell asleep before it turned back on:(

Exercise:

Yesterday I tried to do another run with Banks, but he was having none of it:(  He turned around halfway down the block on every walk and run,  grrrrr. I thought dogs were supposed to like to run and walk!

The best I got in the exercise department was a minute of jogging on the spot every time I steeped a cup of tea.

Teaching:

We had a short day yesterday due to parent-teacher conferences after school. I was lucky and only had to be there until 4pm, but I felt bad for the teachers who were there until 6pm!  Of course, they are all done now, and I have two more conferences to look forward to next week:(  I’ve always said that parents are the toughest part of my job! If there is an orphanage looking for a teacher, I’d jump on that!  The parents weren’t too bad – I spoke a lot about how physicality is normal for six year old boys and that we are still providing reminders to use our words, not our bodies. That time management is not a six year old’s strength, and that yes, they need to do practice at home!  All in all, not bad. I just find some parents difficult to read, so I never know if they’re satisfied with what I’ve said or not.

Baking:

Nothing!  We had lunch brought in for us courtesy of one of our daycares and then the principal provided dinner. I need to get back to eating an appropriate amount of healthy food! My pants were tight yesterday morning:(  I have to make lemon bars for a co-worker’s husband next week, but I will try to make that my only baking!

Tea:

The tea in my advent calendar was lemon yesterday. It smelled very strongly of lemon and that was neat, but I can’t say that it was my favourite:(

Knitting:

I delivered the dog sweater yesterday and I got started on the toque to match my niece’s handwarmers. It should be done relatively quickly and it felt good to make some progress on these projects that are hanging over my head!

Christmas Movies:

I went slightly crazy on Christmas movies last night. I watched December Bride, which I quite enjoyed. Then I watched the 12 Gifts of Christmas which was equally enjoyable and I finished it off with a Netflix Christmas movie which I can’t remember the name of right now.  I guess it wasn’t as good as the other two.

Well that was my entire day in a nutshell! I’m hoping for less eating today!

Have fun!

Running

I seemed to be running all day with coming home at lunch to let the dog out.

Exercise:

I tried to work out this morning, but I had “help”. Working out with a puppy isn’t easy! I adandonned the idea and played ball in the house with Banks.

I got a run in after school, with Banks again. It wasn’t fast, but at least I sort of got a run in.

Teaching:

I was missing four kids today so my class seemed small all day! We played dodgeball, had music (during which I created four very large trees to use for the concert backdrop). We got journal writing done today- the first time in a while! I had the children complete the sentence, “Christmas is…”. The ideas were very interesting, ranging from Christmas is awesome to Christmas is giving. I had a little contest to see which student could write the most sentences while being sure to include capitals, periods and finger spaces.  I had three students tie at 8 great sentences each. It was really neat to see how far some of the children have come in their writing already. It isn’t usually until after Christmas or Spring Break that I really start to see a lot of growth.

This afternoon we had buddies and watched a Magic School Bus movie about sound. They sure are more engaged when a movie is on than when it’s me talking!

I got 13 report cards returned today and have three interview requests.  One parent wants the very last time slot at six o’clock. I’m tempted to contact her and see if another time before or after school or before the Christmas concert would work as I don’t really want to leave the puppy in his crate that long!

After school, the staff set up the stage and backdrop for the Christmas Concert. We got a lot accomplished in an hour and it looked great!

Baking:

We have a retirement tea tomorrow night so I made up egg salad sandwiches for it and some brownies. I have bread crusts left over and am considering making bread and butter pudding. If anyone has a recipe, I’d love to hear it:)

Christmas Movies:

I watched Christmas in the City this evening on Netflix. It was fine, just nothing stellar.

Tea:

I had day ten and eleven from my advent calendar today as I had forgotten my tea strainer at home and picked it up today. Day ten was walnut orange scone. It was okay- quite citrusy.  Day eleven- alpine punch- is my favourite so far, I think. So yummy!

Well I need to go walk Mr. Banks.

Have fun!

Dog Sitting

I so didn’t want to get up today and it’s been busy, but I didn’t seem to accomplish anything:(

Exercise:

I ran over to grab my brother’s dog Banks who I’m taking care of this week.  I planned to take him on my run. We got to Mundy Park uneventfully and made it around the half loop quite well, except for the three times Banks stopped and wouldn’t go until he got some loving. He is definitely a lover, not a fighter! Not the fastest or longest run, but a run:)

No other exercise made it into my day:(

Errands:

I took Banks home, ran home to clean my house, pack some clothes and head back over to my brother’s place. It was super busy and I had to go back home to get my book club book:(

Cooking:

I knew I needed something quick so I could spend most of the day reading the book. I decided to make pizza bites of the cold pizza my brother had left and some peanut butter and banana bites for book club. I stopped at two grocery stores to try and find graham cracjers but neither had them so I used cinnamon raisin bread instead.  They turned out pretty good!

Book Club:

We read the book, “The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto” by Mitch Alvin. I’m just over halfway so I’ll give a review when I’m done. It’s rare I don’t finish the book club book so I’m feeling a little guilty.

Book club was awesome as usual! I ate way too much food and have a sore stomach from laughing so hard!  We are all quite different, but it’s always a great time!  We were at Michelle’s parent’s place because she is house sitting too.  The house was so beautifully decorated! Even the bathroom had decorations!!!

I got a text from my brother’s renter while I was at book club. Supposedly Banks was barking and howling so he went and got him and hung out with him. Banks has definitely been missing his people and spent most of the day like this:

Well I’m off to bed as I actually have to get up and be an adult in the morning!

Have fun!

Chilling in the October Sunshine

A true holiday! I figure I might as well write early tonight as I’m in on the couch already.

Exercise:

Absolutely none except for a walk to and from the hospital (about three blocks total). I had plans for a long run today as it’s a holiday here, but then I slept in until 8:20 and stayed in my jammies until noon. I’m not sure I’ve ever done that before!🤣

Socializing:

I met up with my running buddy Brenda and we went to visit our other running buddy who was rushed to emergency at 3am Saturday morning. It turns out she had a pulmonary embolism and they also corrected her asthma diagnosis to COPD:( She was hoping to come home today but it looks like it will be another few days at least. We took her some things – lotion, mints, a novel, magazines, a notepad and pens to keep her entertained and hopefully comfortable. She says she’s feeling better than she has in a while. It’s great she gets this awesome private room with a garden view because she spent 45 minutes in a hospital in Holland😂. I don’t ever really like visiting hospitals- already spent enough time in them, but today wasn’t so bad because we got to sit out in this gorgeous little garden in the sunshine:)

I also went up this evening to let Sarah, my other running buddy’s dogs out as her and her man were both working. It was a fun half hour:)

I have also been tagged for the very first time on the blog today. I require some help before I can fulfill this tag though- can someone please tell me how I can link to someone’s blog in my blog. I often want to mention someone’s blog on mine, but don’t j ow how to do this properly so they’re name is a link to their blog. I’d appreciate any help anyone can give. You may have guessed, I’m not the most techy person! Actually when I worked for the university, they told me it would be cheaper for me to go interrupt someone else and have them do what I needed than to keep having to fix the electronic devices I touched 🤣🤣 (unfortunately a true story with no embellishment).

Eating:

It’s a tie between breakfast and lunch for the best meal of the day! Lunch was a turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce sandwich, arguably the best part of Thanksgiving is the turkey sandwich the next day:). Breakfast, which was very late as I wasn’t very hungry when I got up, was a hash using the bacon cornbread stuffing from yesterday. I took a half cup of the stuffing and put it in the fry pan to heat and then broke an egg over it and allowed that to cook. When I slid it onto my plate, I frayed a half ounce of jalapeño cheese over the top. Woah was it ever good! This was definitely the way to eat this stuffing!

Sorry the picture does not do it justice!

Crafting:

I got down to my old house (wish I had never seen this sight😞😖 and cut the lavender there as well as at my friend Sarah’s place. It will be used for the Christmas gifts I’m making for my friends. I don’t think I have enough though. If anyone knows where to get dried lavendar or balsam fir, please tell me!

Knitting wise, I have now restarted my nephew’s scarf eight times! If nothing else, knitting is good for teaching perseverance. It isn’t even a tough project though! I have settled on a 2×2 rib and that’s just what it’s going to be! I was hoping to be done today, but I really don’t think that’ll happen. Maybe tomorrow. It has been lovely to sit here in the October sunshine and knit on this gorgeous holiday! I’ve been like a cat all day😂.

I’m ending my holiday with watching “The Inheritence“. It is a movie made out of the list novel of Louisa May Alcott. I picked it up at Orchard House this summer while I was there. My friends say they have never seen me buy something so quickly (yes I’m usually frugal and careful with my money), but I’d been looking for it for a while, so it was an easy decision when I saw it.

I hope you’re all having a great Monday, holiday or not!

Have fun!

AJ
