Happy Weekend!

Another good day- boy I wonder how long I can keep this going??

Exercise:

I got out for a 9.39km fun in the neighborhood with Dennis. We even included a little bit of trail, though I learned I slow down massively on the trails. I felt like I was having to work really hard on the run even though I wasn’t going that fast, but I’m the end, I would call it a good run.

This evening I did a total body strength workout from BeFitDavis. I had to do squat with bicep curl to shoulder press, reverse lunge with bicep curl to row, side lunge with reach to single leg press, and a squat to diagonal front raise. I definitely felt some of those moves after four sets!!

Teaching:

It was a pretty good day. I only had to check work on all the different platforms, so that was nice:)

Socializing:

I did my usual teacher meetup from six feet away. It’s always so nice to have time with friends! I come home feeling rejuvenated and calmer. The only thing that will be better is when my mom shows up to hug me!

I did notice on the way home a sign that said the local lake was full. I sure hope people aren’t forgetting g the social distancing already or we might be in for some trouble!

Baking:

I did some baking, but you’ll hear about that at the end of the month.

House:

I got y laundry done and my house plants watered. I even got my bike oiled. I think the kickstand was pressing against the wheel. Hopefully I will get out tomorrow to test it out.

Knitting:

I had the chance to sit out on my deck and enjoy the sunshine as I was knitting. I’m glad I’m finally getting motivated with this sweater. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a sweater take this long before. I think I’m about 9 rows away from joining in the round:)

Eating:

Not a great day, but thankfully I burned a lot of calories with my run. I was just thinking today that I feel like I’m on the road back to eating appropriate sized meals.

Mini kind bar, 3 honey stinger chews

Veggie soup, 2 slices corned beef deli meat (I really wish there was an ash way to get protein without the salt of deli meat!)

Homemade bread with cheese and avocado

1.75 baked good

Reading:

I finished listening to The Semi Attached Couple by Emily Eden. I really enjoyed this book and liked that it ended happily for everyone:). I Lao really like the narrator, Elizabeth Klett. I’ll have to look on LibriVox and find another book she has read.

Well I’m going to curl up with a book:)

Have fun!

AJ

Happy Friday Eve

It was actually a second good day in a row!

Teaching:

I checked all the work on all the platforms. I wish I could share what my students are doing for STEM- they have created so many cool things out of a box- pirate ship, sailboat, race car, tv, stove, DJ booth, forts. I have been so impressed. My favourite thing though is when they send me videos of themselves. They look so cute when I don’t have to deal with their mischievous ways all day.

I had been dreading the staff meeting this afternoon all week, but it wasn’t so bad. I think it’s because my principal actually said she didn’t know and didn’t go off on a power trip. I laughed when she said we’re going to keep on with the Teams staff meetings even after we’re back. Of course she wants to because she can just ignore everything we have to say(type).πŸ™„πŸ€£

Exercise:

I actually managed to get a workout and yoga in today which was the plan. All too often my yoga gets left out. I ended up doing an abs workout from BeFitDavis and a half hour Hatha yoga video from yoga by Christine. It was okay, but if anyone has a yoga they love online, please tell me about it!

House:

I have been so good this week and today I got my floors swept, including the deck and my carpet vacuumed. I didn’t bother washing the floor as I actually managed to keep it clean this week.

I even had the chance to wash my bike because it was so warm and sunny out. Now I just need a YouTube video of a bike tune up. I bet there’s a lot of use of YouTube videos right now for things people can’t get done.

Knitting:

I finished up the top back and started on the front. Nothing really to show yet though. I am enjoying the project more now:)

Eating:

Not a perfect day, but not the worst either. At least I kind of feel like I’m getting back to my small meals. I’ve had:

Yogurt & granola

Mandarin & cheese & 5 almonds

Pork loin chop & roasted veggies (my poor stomach wasn’t happy even as I was eating this, but this was the end of it)

Granola (while worrying about the staff meeting which turned out fine)πŸ™„

Coleslaw & 2 slices of corned beef deli meat. (I’m going to regret this salt tomorrow)

Family:

I got a text late afternoon to see if I’d be willing to help my niece with her essay assignment and spent a couple of hours helping her over FaceTime and google docs. She is so techy!! It was great to have the time with her and I don’t even care that it probably ate a ton of my data- she’s way more important to me!

Well, have fun!

AJ

Wahoo Wednesday!

Happy hump day and I’m so happy I actually got all of my assignments for next week done in a day! I’m just getting good at this so of course it will change.πŸ™„

Reading:

Last night I finished a Hotshot Doc by RS Grey. I really enjoyed the book as it had some twists in it and it made me laugh out loud several times.

Teaching:

Today went well, probably partly because I have high speed data back so I didn’t have to go looking for WiFi .

I got all work checked, all assignments created and uploaded for next week, and then more work checked.

Two of my students who haven’t done much, did stuff today so thankfully I don’t have to send them emails tomorrow. I also got an email from a parent complaining about the format of my work and suggesting I get this fancy printer. I decided to actually set him straight that all the help I get from my school or district is being handed my classroom laptop and told to go teach. I’m using all my own resources and having to figure it out as I go! I got an email back thanking me for what I have provided online.

Rant: be kind to the teachers in your life- most of us are doing jobs we aren’t trained for with little to no support and having to find and use our own resources. I know one city is making their teachers go into school starting next week to teach (students are home) because “the general public thinks teachers aren’t doing anything”.

No I’m just working longer hours than I do when I go to school!πŸ˜–πŸ˜–

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah this evening for a run. It was a lovely six kilometers, though boy was it busy out there! It’s funny how my definition of crowded has changed.🀣

I also got in another BeFitDavis workout tonight. This one was using the small band which seriously works your body. I do wish she had included some upper body moves. I realize I could add my own, but I actually didn’t think of it until this very moment.

Knitting:

I sat myself down and did the next section of my sweater which was 18 rows. They were much simpler as the pattern now is just a slip stitch. I need to do a bit each day!

Eating:

I was still good but I did treat myself. I had:

Yogurt & granola

Cheese on cucumber

Avocado on toast πŸ˜‹

Cinnamon roll mug cake πŸ˜‹

It’ll be back to veggies tomorrow:)

Well I think that’s it for me today. Sorry about the rant:)

Have fun!

AJ

Ugh

I hate it when I screw up a run.

Teaching:

Today went fine- lots of commenting on work and some planning with my co teacher for next week. Nothing very exciting, except I loved seeing my students box creations! I’ve seen a sailboat, a stove, a race car, a tv, and a fairy house. All very cool!

Exercise:

I had a text first thing this morning telling me I was late for the run, but Dennis was actually 8.5 hours early, and he’s the one that set the time!

It was not a great run- my veggies and pork loin chop lunch did not sit well at all! I figure it’s a success that I wasn’t sick on the trail.

Dennis wanted to do eight, but I called a halt at 6km.

We have also come to the realization we have to stick with 8am as there are just too many people out at 4:30pm.

Eating:

I’ve had a good food day!

Yogurt & granola

Kiwi & almonds

Roasted veggies & pork loin chop

Mandarin orange

Coleslaw

Well I’m desperate to finish my book so that’s it from me tonight!

Have fun!

AJ

Mellow Monday

I like how Mondays and Fridays are a little quieter for me right now. It makes the start of the week much easier.

House:

I got my grocery shopping done first thing this morning. I still have way too much food in that fridge though!

Teaching:

I got the work for the day posted before I grocery shopped so then afterwards I spent a few hours returning emails and checking children’s work. I’m happy I see that more of the kids are reading on RAZ Kids now!

This afternoon I had an introductory lesson on how to use Microsoft Teams. I figure I may st some point need to talk to my students directly.

I ended the day with more email and assignment checking. Oh the funnies moment was when a student said he had built an alarm circuit fo his STEM project. This is the kid who literally can’t stand still. That’s the biggest problem with this is that I feel like I’m marking parents, not kids.

Exercise:

I tried to do a kickboxing class this morning but was interrupted by work, but this afternoon I got out for a run through Bert Flynn with Sarah. I hadn’t thought about how busy it would be though. The park is be one way, but still way too many people!

Reading:

I jut finished The almost Eligible Lord in London by Grace Burrowes. It was a great historical romance that I really enjoyed. I wanted to spend my day reading it, not working!

Eating:

I’ve had an egg

almonds and a mandarin

Chef’s salad

Grapes

Meatloaf

Well I think I’ll go take my turn on Scrabble Go and then go to sleep.

Have fun!

AJ

Friday social:)

It was a nice day, except for the blisters!

Teaching:

Today I had my first light day. I responded to emails and assessed the work that had been uploaded and was done by noon (of course I started at 7 so I could get my five hours in).

Exercise:

I decided I really wanted to just be able to relax when I got home from the social tonight so I did my workout before my run for a change. I did another online bootcamp workout and it was making me sweaty for sure! It took me until the tenth round to figure out we were doing a countdown!πŸ™„. The worst part was the blister I now have on my hand from the band:(

I had arranged to meet up with Dennis for our run at 12:30. I was really unsure what to eat for lunch before running, but I’m happy to say that a mandarin orange, strawberries and almonds worked well. Dennis was suffering with his allergies again and I found the humidity quite dreadful, but we managed 7km from the rec centre, around the river and back again. I am actually surprised it was only 7km as I really thought it was going to be more than 10km!

I definitely felt the tired legs from working out first as I didn’t hit a decent pace until my watch clicked to 5km. I guess I can blame the pre-run workout, the humidity and the dumb blister on my foot that just isn’t healing:(

I am obviously running more now as I can really tell the difference between trail and road shoes. I had thought we would be on the road so wore those shoes but we were mainly on trails and I really noticed the lack of stability and grip. Does this mean I am a real runner now 🀣πŸ€ͺ

Socializing:

I met up with the ladies from work for our social distanced Friday social tonight. I fully admit to being an introvert, but even I need some social time each week and I throughly enjoy these two hours. We don’t say anything important but it is nice to catch up with everyone.

Eating:

I had better go back to telling you what I’m eating as I’m feeling roly poly lately. Today I had:

2 slices (homemade and tiny so they equal one slice) of bread with Pb and cheese

Mandarin orange, 8 strawberries, 10 almonds

corn chips and salsa (one of the girls brought them for me as she brought baked goods for everyone else)

shrimp

It’s not quite what I want, but maybe I can get it right over the weekend!

House:

I got my plants watered, my laundry done, my bike tires inflated, and my dishes done- I’m a happy camper!

Knitting:

I worked on the Floridian cowl again and got another pattern repeat done so I think I am exactly halfway through the cowl now.

Reading:

I’m reading a very entertaining book but am not done yet. So far it has excellent banter. I also have continued listening to the Semi Attached Couple while I’m knitting. I had to give up on the podcasts as the hosts’ stupidity was driving me crazy!!!

Well I’m going back to my baking shows!

Have fun!

AJ

Production, Finally!

Lately all of my work friends have been saying it feels like we work hard all day long but nothing to show for it at the end of the day. I have felt that way too, but today, I actually had something to show for my day:)

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis for a run this morning and it was awful for both of us. We had planned a 7km route but we got halfway through the park and he actually stopped because his allergies were so bad. We rerouted and completed a 5km instead. I just felt like I wasn’t capable of taking anything but tony steps until 3.5km. My legs didn’t feel tired- they just didn’t seem to be working right. I hope to never have that again, though I did remind Dennis that not every run can be great. I usually take Saturday as my rest day, but maybe this run is trying to tell me that my test day should be tomorrow.

This evening I did another workout from L. This one was 3 sets of the following: squat with front raise, bicep curl, pull aparts, rows, plank with leg lift, plank jacks, plank.

In between I had to do ski moguls and then end with a low squat shuffle for five minutes.

It was definitely enough to get me sweaty!

Work:

This morning after my lovely shower and breakfast, I got the rock monster activity posted into FreshGrade. My teaching partner and I had a phone conference to plan next week. We then attended a webinar on Office Lens and One Drive. This seemed like a good enough program that I walked over to the Starbucks WiFi to download the app. This afternoon we started gathering the links and resources we needed for the activities and got the activities for Tuesday posted. It’s great that we learned how to post activities in advance so that we can get a few days ahead at least. Finally we created a list of indoor and outdoor Daily physical activity ideas for parents which we will post on Tuesday morning.

All in all, a productive day and I am happy with what we got done.

House:

That happiness extended to getting my bathroom cleaned. It’s so small that I actually accomplished this while my lunch cooked and now I have a lovely bathroom to enjoy all week!

Eating:

A decent eating day though not quite to where I need to be. I’ve had: peanut butter on a small banana, mandarin orange and almonds, Hawaiian pizza, arugula Caesar salad, pineapple chunks.

Today’s Hawaiian pizza- so yummy! I meant to say for anyone who needs the info that Okanagan Soya Cheese melts really nicely for pizza.

Reading:

I finished my current book after work today. I read The Viscount’s Wallflower Bride by Lauren Royal. I liked the family in this book, but it was much too long a book for what it was. It needed some good editing!

I am still listening to Cooked by Michael Pollan. He is on his bread chapters and all I want to do is bake bread. I may need to add that to my list for the long weekend.

List for long weekend:

Make bread

Wipe down deck chair

Sort pictures for travel albums

Finish sweater

Knitting:

After working on the puzzle for a bit I started back in on my sweater. After trying it on yesterday I realized I needed to leave the sleeves and work on the body as right now it is a crop top. Nobody wants to see that look on me! I am happily going back to my knitting and podcast listening!

Have fun!

I Passed Someone!

Today was so much better since I followed my friend Brenda’s advice.

Exercise:

I got up and out the door for my run, but not early enough. It’s already busy by 8:30. I really wasn’t sure if I should run today or not as Dennis was saying I should be taking two days off a week, but I decided to go anyways since I’m so behind in mileage. It’s a good thing I went! I was just cruising along, not pushing the speed when I saw a “young” girl in front of me- probably early 30s. She kept checking her watch and I realized that I was gaining on her. I pushed my speed up slightly and overtook her!!! First time in my life I passed a girl!!! It felt really good though I realize she could be brand new or just coming back from injury, but she inspired me to push myself this morning. The end of my 5km was faster than my start.

This evening I did a quick workout my friend L sent me. It was 3 sets of 50 jumping jacks, 40 mountain climbers, 30 squat jacks, 20 bicycle crunches and 10 burpees. It was quick but definitely got the heart rate up!

Work:

I took the time to have breakfast, shower and get dressed. I wore my Love Note sweater today very happily. I’m going to try to wear something handknit or something I don’t get to wear at school (because it’s cold) each day.

I sat my butt in the chair, answered some emails from parents, read about Fresh Grade some more. The Getting Started manual they put out is the best resource I have found. It’s step by step and has pictures! I attended a district webinar that was useless, had a zoom conversation with colleagues about FreshGrade which was super helpful, and finished up my reading. We posted our first announcement today for our class. It was a kindness challenge which we’re going to post each school day. Today our students had to go tell someone in their family they loved them and why.

Today really helped in calming me as I now feel like I have some idea of how to start. That’s, of course, thanks to my friends, not my employer 🀣

The last thing I’ve done is my homework. Tomorrow we are posting a test assignment having the children make rock monsters so of course, I had to make my own.

Eating:

I stuck to the plan Brenda had me make, mostly. Over Spring Break I found I didn’t need snacks, but today I did. I’ve had a small banana with peanut butter, a mango, homemade salami and mushroom pizza, and veggies and hummus and a couple of almonds.

My delicious gf/df pizza! I will be having one for the next three days too:)

House:

Brenda also told me to identify one household chore I could do each day. This helped to get me out of the chair on occasion and gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I got my dishes done and I even hand washed my lunch dishes, a load of sheets washed, and my sheets changed. I can’t wait to crawl into fresh sheets tonight! I can’t believe the sense of accomplishment these little chores gave me and they broke up my work day really nicely.

Puzzle/ Podcast:

I worked on the puzzle for a bit after work while listening to my latest romance podcast. I am excited because someone told me today about some podcasts that are about the Great British Baking Show. I love that show and have been missing my podcasts since I’m up to date on them all. I will definitely be getting on this tomorrow!

Knitting:

I am still working on the sleeve but I made progress today because I finally put everything on waste yarn and tried the sweater on. I think I’m going to like it, just really need to get these sleeves done! I think I’ll undo and reknit a cowl after this so it will be a short project.

Well I think that’s it for my day.

Have fun!

AJ

Solid Saturday

It was a pretty good day. I got to do things I enjoy, but I had to do certain things which does take some of the fun away.

Exercise:

Dennis and I ran a new route this morning- the Central Valley Greenway. We intercepted it at Sperling and ran the 5.28km to Boundary and back. This is an urban trail that only has one section of packed gravel and the rest is paved. I don’t think I would run it alone as it runs behind buildings and through industrial parks. Dennis thinks it probably gets pretty busy on summer nights and we probably passed twenty people during the 10km we did, but still seems secluded to me.

My legs were tight the whole time and my left Achilles was bugging me. At four km I was ready to say, let’s go find a skytrain station and go home, but good running buddy that he is, Dennis kept me going. I had done a workout last night instead of a run, but maybe my legs would be better if I reversed those two?

We did the whole 10.04km and I had a personal best with doing it in 1:05:21, that is down from 1:07.

This evening I did a hallmark workout as I am trying to keep my workouts and my runs equal.

I decided to jog between moves and did: squats, crunches, reverse crunches, front, side and back raises, froggers, burpees, bicep curls, around the world lunges, pliΓ© squats, pushups, and dips.

I hope one day that these workouts pay off!

Knitting:

After coffee, I came home and started the toque I am making for the secretary’s daughter. It’s an easy knit as it’s done in seed stitch which is one of my favourite stitches. Right now, I’m just worried that the yarn is going to be too dense to slouch, but I suppose we shall see.

Reading:

I have spent a lot of today reading my Bookclub book. I am almost halfway which is probably the best I can hope for as the book is 579 pages long. I am making this post short so I can get back to it.

Cooking:

I made my second Fresh Prep meal today which was Hoisin meatballs with broccoli and coconut rice. This recipe took me 32 minutes from turning the stove on to taking my first bite. It would have been less if I had remembered to take the ground pork out to de thaw and hadn’t had to take the 2.5 minutes to microwave defrost it in the middle. The recipe was easy to follow and simple to do. With both of these recipes I have felt that I could probably memorize the recipe if I made it a couple of more times. I also got four servings out of this recipe too so I should have plenty to get me through until the next two meals show up on Wednesday. I would like to get to the point where I can get six servings out of each meal as then I could freeze a couple and build my stash back up as my freezer is very empty right now.

Eating:

I have eaten really well today! I had a bag of honey stinger chews on my run as I was trying to give myself energy. I had a serving of my shrimp pad Thai for breakfast, and then taco salad for launch and then the meatballs and rice and broccoli for dinner. I wasn’t planning on the last meal, but realized later in the day that I needed to get that meal cooked up.

Well that is my whole day and I need to go read my book.

Have fun!

AJ

Redeemed

Last night at knit night, I failed. I went with two projects well on the way and came home with both of them frogged. And I hadn’t even taken the project that requires me to concentrate!

Errands:

I was one of those odd ducks who were out at the Costco gas bar at 7:30 this morning. My eyes opened at 6:15 and I just couldn’t get back to sleep:(

Besides this, I got a load of dishes done and some groceries bought , but that’s it.

Exercise:

I had thought it would be mid morning before I would be running, but Dennis was ready earlier so we went out this morning. It looked beautiful, but was quite cold. I should have worn gloves! We went out along Guildford again and right from the start, it felt tough as my legs were tired. We did 7.75km and though I didn’t get a PR for my 5km (though I was trying for one), I did get my fastest kilometer ever- 5:45/km!! I didn’t think I’d ever see a kilometer in the 5s!!!πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰

Shopping:

I stopped for coffee with Dennis and then went to pick up my new Brooks Christmas running shirt that just came in. I haven’t ran in it, but it seems expensive for the type of material it is. It is super cute though so I will just enjoy it and try not to think about how much it cost me!

Baking:

I had bought frozen cookie dough for a school fundraiser for a friend’s nephew and it’s been calling my name so today, I decided that I should try to get it out of my freezer! I do much better when there’s no yummy food in my house! The cookies took two minutes longer than called for and didn’t really spread at all, but they did taste good. I took a dozen to my friend Anna for her boys.

Movie:

My friend Anna has had a very busy fall as her husband prepared for his PhD thesis defense so when she called me up to see if I would go to a movie with her, I didn’t mind seeing Little Women again so that she could get out of the house. This was the first time she’s been out without her boys since September. I think she deserved a break:). I enjoyed the movie just as much the second time:)

Eating:

What have I had today? I’ve had a rice cake with peanut butter and cheese on one half and peanut butter and jam on the other, a cup of tea after my run, a seafood cannelloni out of the freezer for lunch, cookies and ice cream. I had a gift card to my favourite ice cream store and I saw they had a ton of new vegan flavors so I stopped in tonight on my way home from the movie. I tried many and they were all amazing, but I had the Raspberry Pistachio Nut and loved every bite. The people are so kind there, the lady pulled a chair up in front of the heater for me to sit and eat in:)

Knitting:

I have spent much of today working on my Date Night sweater and thankfully I’m to the point where I just continue in pattern until it’s as long as I want it. I have found that I have to concentrate for the lace rows, but can listen to podcasts for the plain rows. I’m hopeful I can get a good portion of the body done tomorrow!

Well I’m tired, have fun!
