Fell Asleep

I can’t believe I fell asleep before posting last night and it was such an exciting day!

Teaching:

We started the day with a staff meeting telling us that our principal is moving to another school as of July 1st and the acting principal we have right now will become our regular principal. Our original principal can come back before June 30th, but at least we know we won’t have to put up with her for long.

My class spent the morning doing chalkboard spelling, getting items handed out and making 105 words from the word experimentation.

At recess we had a second quick staff meeting where it was announced which staff member would be taking the surplus and thankfully it was the one I thought should!

My class did skipping in gym and we had tears. I solved two sets of tears as I worked one on one to teach them to skip, but the third set took it to the bench and kept crying🙄

In the afternoon we had a fire truck visit. The kids were super excited and had a million questions and at least as many stories. They got fire helmets at the end and I got to try out using a fire extinguisher. It was cool, but I really don’t want to do that in real life!

Knitting/Stitching:

I came home right away and did my stitching. I have been putting on a podcast and stitching for that time, but today I was down to 76 stitches so I just kept going and the curtain is done!!!!!

I spent the rest of the night working on my test knit shawl. I got confused and emailed the designer about something, but it was my misunderstanding. I thought she wanted the two colours to alternate across the row so when I had three stitches in one colour in a row, I thought I had made a mistake. Nope and now I probably look like an idiot to the designer and I was hoping to do more of her test knits. I am killing my reputation with a lot of designers lately:(

Exercise:

I ended the night with a FitOn HIIT class. It was a half hour and I was sweaty so I’ll count that as a success!

Well I have to get moving.

Have fun!

Is it only Tuesday?

April went so fast and yet May seems to be taking forever!

Teaching:

My six little boys definitely have Spring Fever and are driving me crazy. They don’t seem to realize that the rules apply to them!

Today we practiced for our student led conferences and that went surprisingly well. Well except for the little guy who has been off school since Spring Break and doesn’t seem to realize that he needs to do what the rest of us are doing!

We got through a math drill and the kids had library.

This afternoon we did silent reading and then we went outside for outdoor Ed. This time it was science and the kids were gluing confetti to show the molecules inside solids, liquids and gases. They had more fun pretending to be the molecules, but they seemed to get the idea.

We are still waiting on staff members to make up their minds so there is no resolution of the drama and/or uncertainty at work yet.

Exercise:

It was just Dennis and I for the run tonight. I had planned a slow, easy run but there was this woman in front of me who really didn’t look to be running fast, but I was doing a 6min kilometer and couldn’t catch her. My legs were heavy from my massage yesterday so there was no way I was picking up the pace anymore than that!

I came home and immediately did the HIIT workout on FitOn as I knew I wouldn’t otherwise.

Crafting:

My plan to use the brown alpaca for my shawl isn’t going to work as the halo obstructs the pattern. I then tried out some coal Kroy I had, but didn’t get gauge and thought- do I want a shawl out of Kroy when there are so many super soft yarns out there.

It was at this point I realized I hadn’t done my stitching for today, so I sat down to do that. I am down to just 146 stitches to do on the curtains. Let’s hope that by the end of the week they are done!

I then had to do the toe on my current lunch sock. I always knit while visiting at lunch but today I got to my toe and couldn’t visit and do that. I got this sock finished and got through the cuff on the second so that I’m ready for lunch knitting tomorrow.

I am now back to doing another swatch with stash yarn for the shawl. I really want to finish so that I’ll know if this yarn is going to work, but I also know that I need sleep!

Hmmm what to do???

Have fun!

My Eyes Want to Close

It has been a few days now where all my eyes want to do is close! Yes I have a doctor’s appointment coming up and I will ask to have my blood work done. Hopefully it will lead to an iron transfusion!

Teaching:

Today wasn’t a bad day. We got through printing v and music class. I prepped for next week and got lots accomplished. I was in supervision for recess and had to talk to a problem kid about being out of bounds🙄

We did bar graphs in math and went outside to draw our favorite snack bar graph with chalk. That was definitely a highlight, though it also showed me I have one little girl who has no idea!

This afternoon we did tulips for the windows. I’ll try to share a picture when they are up. The kids did better than usual at doing the modgepodge of the paper onto overhead film, but we had four spills of the modgepodge:(. My little ADHD boy did an awesome job of cleaning al the containers and paintbrushes without being asked so after school I took him a little treat.

We ended the day playing outside as we had a surprisingly warm, dry day when it called for rain all week!

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah and Dennis for a run and we got 6.84km in. I think Sarah is getting faster which is great and my heart rate only hit 178 which is an improvement over 200! Especially since it only went that high when I ran up a set of stairs. I hope this situation continues to improve and maybe I won’t need to tell my doctor about that and we can concentrate on the tiredness instead.

I also did my FitOn class today and I am starting to think they let a monkey choose the daily class as it was an upper body workout for the third day in a row!😫. I better have amazing arms for summer for this torture.

Knitting:

Before I got into the tub, I spent the evening knitting. In the mornings I have been working on my Rock It Tee as I want a new summer tee. At school, while visiting at lunch I’ve been working on the Ankers summer shirt as it is at the stockinette in the round point. Then at night I try to get a few pattern repeats done on my hitchhiker shawl. I’m not sure I’ll stick with this rotation as I don’t feel like I actually accomplish anything, but since I wore a new sweater yesterday, I’m okay with it for now.

I have also been working on my stitching, but have been going straight down a column. When talking to my mom tonight I came to the conclusion that I may not stick with this as though it keeps me from making a mistake, it also uses up way too much thread, makes the back messier and doesn’t show much progress. I’ll try to get more done before Sunday’s update.

Well I’m going to continue soaking for another five minutes and then crawl into bed with my book.

Have fun!

Monday Again

I wish I had a more exciting title for my Monday posts. I’ll have to think about this.

Exercise:

My slow data only drives me crazy when I am trying to do my workout video on the FitOn app so this morning I did my workout when I got to school. This was also because I had a massage right after school and I try to take 24 hours off after my massage to enjoy the loose muscles. I did just a quick intro to tabata workout, but it was at least something!

Teaching:

We got through a journal, PE class, looking at bar graphs and answering questions from them, and an introductory video to matter. I really wanted to get the kids to do their wonder wall questions after the video, but I had to give the reading prizes for last week and so we will do the questions tomorrow. We also went outside at the end of the day and worked in the class garden box and played on the playground. It was a successful day and was made better by the use of my new hearing amplifiers. It does amplify everything which can be a little annoying in the classroom, but I also felt like I didn’t have to work so hard to hear the kids which was nice. The bell and my friend yelling at lunch=not so nice, but I’m sure I’ll adjust.

Knitting:

I ran down the hill to get to my massage appointment and actually had time to hit the grocery store first, but unfortunately they still didn’t have my milk:(. I want my milk!!!!!

I came home to happy mail! That is what I call knitting mail as it’s way better than getting bills. I got three skeins from Area51 Fibres. The name always makes me smile as my parents end of the marina finger is Area51. I didn’t plan to get three skeins as I just wanted to try them out, but they sell every colourway in 50g skeins which I appreciate as then I don’t have to make four pairs of socks in the same colour and they have free shipping at a certain amount which was three of these.

I got the Miss Jane (left), The Duke and I (middle) and Claire (right). I can’t wait to start knitting with these and see how they feel and how they knit up!!

I have spent the evening working on my Kids Flannel sweater again as I feel like I am closest to finishing this one which is a good thing because it is a test knit. I have finished a sleeve, am working on the second sleeve and then will do the neck band and then just knit on the body until I run out of yarn. At this point I will be lucky if it doesn’t turn out to be a cropped sweater!

Well that’s it for me, have fun!

Happy Friday Eve!

It kind of was my Friday today as tomorrow is a ProD day that I can do from home. I love these days as they get my time, but it’s so much more relaxed and I can get a run in and pop in laundry on my recess break!

Today was a tough day at work as my students were wound up. Other teachers even noticed it!

We got through printing and I did prep for next week while they had music. We did some work on graphing, both making and reading tally graphs.

This afternoon after guided reading we tried to do our cherry blossom art as outdoor Ed, but the wind was gusting and blowing away pop bottles and flipping paint pans. It was crazy!

I got the room ready after school, met with a parent who just wanted reassurance that I was seeing the same thing and that it wasn’t wrong to go see a pediatrician and then I came home!

I met up with Dennis for a run. Sarah had decided not to come so it was just the two of us for 6.3km. I feel like my mileage is way down:(. I think I might try to sneak out for a few kilometers in the morning to try and make up some distance.

I stopped to look and the store still didn’t have my milk:( but I did pick up a single serve packet of Vega protein powder. I keep planning to buy this at Costco but realized I should try it first to see if I like it before I buy a big container of it!

I came in the door and started on my FitOn video but it took forever since I’m once again out of high speed data. I really need to stop watching so many knitting podcasts on YouTube! What bugs me is that I wasted my data on a podcast that wasn’t even good!😖

I finally sat down to some knitting and finished up the second sleeve on my Ankers sweater. It is now mindless knitting in the round and so will probably become my lunch knitting for a while.

I also finished up my most recent dishcloth. I already feel better about three projects on the go and tomorrow I will pick yarn for my new sweater test knit.

For now I’m off to knit on the hitchhiker and watch another knitting podcast🤣

Have fun!

Book Character Day

This year we have had a spirit day each month at school and today it was dress as your favorite book character.

My day actually started with a meeting with my new principal which went quite well I hope I was tactful- it’s definitely not my strength🙏🏻🤦🏼‍♀️

The kids and I finished their friendly letters that we started yesterday and we sent them home with them so they could actually send or give the letter to whomever they had written to.

We also did chalkboard spelling and the kids are doing really well! We went outside for gym and I introduced the kids to the game British Bulldog and then we got through a math drill. This afternoon we concentrated on discussing healthy food and they created their dream, healthy dinner.

For the book character day, I dressed as Anne of Green Gables and my students didn’t know who I was😥. We then had to watch a few animated parts of the book I found on YouTube. The kids were super interested as the EAL kids didn’t want to leave. Our new principal dressed up, gathered the staff for a photo at lunch and read her favorite book to the school online this afternoon. She did more in one day to foster school spirit than has been done in the past four years!

Exercise:

I left school early and came home, got my recycling taken out and did my FitOn workout which was an arms and upper body. It didn’t use weights, but I probably should have grabbed some!

Knitting:

I don’t really love having more than two projects on the go at one time- one for home and one portable one. Suddenly I have five😳😥

Tonight I did three stripes on each of my socks and am almost done gusset decreases. This morning I did a pattern or two on my hitchhiker shawl. I then switched over to my Ankers Summer Shirt. I am about two inches past the sleeve separation and I decided I had better do the sleeves and then I can just knit the body as long as possible. I don’t think I’ll be short yarn, but who knows. I have finished the right sleeve this evening as I changed it and made it only five rows of ribbing as I don’t love a deep ribbing.

I really need to knit a lot this weekend and get a few of these projects finished up as I have a test knit to do!

Well I’m done for tonight. For some reason I am super tired tonight:(

Have fun!

Tiring Tuesday

It was after seven before I even got to sit down:(

Teaching:

We got through a lesson on plurals that all of the children seemed to get. We also spent a bit more time on our addition and subtraction word problems before music. This afternoon we did outdoor Ed and had the kids draw four environmental elements. They actually did a good job. We then finished the day with some outdoor play time.

Before school I posted the student perspective on The FreshGrade platform and after school I collated and stuffed report cards so I am all ready for Friday!

Exercise:

I did a run with Sarah and Dennis to the mill and back. It was my first run in capris today. We noticed with the nice weather that there are too many people on our usual route so we will need to find a new one:(

I also did my FitOn workout class. It was a low impact strength pyramid. I think my downstairs neighbor probably appreciated the low impact part! I am worried that maybe these classes aren’t enough exercise for me?? 🤔

House:

I had to pop over to the grocery store and when I went to put the groceries away I noticed some cupboard doors were a wreck so I got those wiped down, the kitchen floor swiffered and the bathroom wiped down. Yay me!

Knitting:

I was a little late leaving for work this morning because I only had three rounds of the cuff left to do and I stayed and finished my Bentley cardigan. It still needs some ends woven in, buttons and a blocking, but I’m calling it done!

This is the Bentley cardigan by Olive Knits. It is done in Fleece Handmaiden in the Stormy colour. This picture does not give a true look of the colour. There is a wildflower torch on the front of the cardigan, but it doesn’t show up in the dark colour very well. I think I will still get a lot of use out of this cardigan! I did knit it a little longer than called for. I also made the sleeves full length and did not do the peel-a-boo on the sleeves. I am super happy with the fit and feel of the cardigan and can’t wait to be able to wear it!

Well I’m going to go crawl into bed with my book. Have fun!

Not That Bad

Well the first day back to school wasn’t that bad.

Teaching:

We got through some writing about Spring Break, an addition drill, library and a lesson on the signs of Spring. I had one little girl this morning who thought she was going to have a temper tantrum. I told her to clean up her area and she tried to fold her arms and say that she wasn’t doing it while I watched her. I quickly disabused her of this idea and we continued on with the day. I have to admit she is probably one of my least favorite students this year and I know she gets her behavior honestly as her mom is the same and works with me😖

It sounded like everyone had a fun spring break and for the most part it sounded like they stayed local which I appreciate people who follow the rules!

I ran out of work really quickly as my car mechanic had called this morning during writing time, to say he could put in a née battery for me as long as I was there before four. I ran home, jump started my car and got there with fifteen minutes to spare. It took him no time to get it in and I just ate a snack and read my book in the sunshine.

Exercise:

I did make myself do my FitOn class immediately on getting home. Today it was another barre class which are definitely not my favorite, but it got done.

I also went through my six magazines and got them recycled and I took three books to the foyer to see if anyone would pick them up. A friend had given them to me, but they really aren’t my style!

Knitting:

I casted on my second Meta sock as I am doing scrappy stripes in this one, but quickly learned that I was one row short of yarn in the first colour I had chosen so I have ripped both socks back to the cuff and have weighed all my yarn. Right now I have ten scraps that will work and will need to search out two more or repeat two of these. It will depend on what I find in the jar.

Well I have to go finish the kids Bookclub book tonight as another teacher needs it for tomorrow night.

Have fun!

A Fine Day

I have been looking forward to this day as it has become a school break tradition. Does twice make it a tradition?

My teaching buddy and one of my two identified people picked me up at 9:30 this morning for a bookstore crawl. We had picked five bookstores nearby to check out.

Stop 1: Renaissance Books

This is a stereotypical used bookstore. The lady at the counter ignored us as we came in, there were books stacked everywhere, though there was some minimal organization. I didn’t buy anything, but my friend snagged two Nancy Drew and one Little House books she was looking for.

Stop 2: Companion Books

A lovely bookstore that is bright, airy and well organized. The clerk greeted us and offered assistance immediately. The shelves go very high, but there are stools everywhere. The books are not only organized by subject, but also by author last name. It was great! I’m pretty sure I still have credit here, but they didn’t have any knitting or cookbooks. My friend got five more Little House books here.

Stop 3: Browns Books

We walked to this store as Google maps said it was only 550 meters from the last store. It’s unfortunate they are so close because they are like night and day. The clerk had forgotten to unlock the front door at the start of business time and he managed to ignore us on his doorstep for a good five minutes:(. This bookstore just keeps going with tiny rooms. That sounds great until you realize those rooms are stacked with books haphazardly and with zero organization. There were some places you couldn’t even get into the room. Get me out of here!! Neither of us bought anything.

Stop 4: IronDog Books

This bookstore is clean, bright, spacious and well organized. The owner was very personable and remembered me from when I was in a few weeks ago! The shelves are all low so the store feels spacious too. There are also some cute little gift items including tshirts that were awesome. I was hoping they’d have the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy in my brother’s size, but alas they didn’t. We found that some prices were great and some were a little higher, but overall a nice experience. My friend found another Nancy Drew for her collection and I found two knitting books.

Even better this bookstore is located right beside a knitting store. The clerk here wasn’t as friendly as the one from a few weeks ago, but I still managed to find two half skeins of yarn, and a scissor and tape measure set. I bought the pink set over the green just for my mom🤣

We were going to go to Tacofina for lunch but then realized they were take out only. There was quite the lineup and we couldn’t figure out how we were going to balance Mexican food, eat it and not spill it all over ourselves. We ended up driving to our fifth and last store location and going to Nuba for lunch. The good was awesome!

Stop 5: The Paper Hound

This store was very cute with exposed brick walls and a cool layout. It had a lot of very old books which were cool, but most of the books seemed like the type you put on the coffee table in the hopes people will think you’re reading them and that you’re really smart to be reading that. It was pretentious! I should have guessed as it is in a trendy area, but the name and decor was the best part.

We did end up stopping at The Gourmet Warehouse on the way home. I was surprised my friend wanted to stop as she’s not really into cooking, but I definitely enjoyed myself and got myself a cookbook holder as I’ve been unable to find mine:(. I can’t wait to use it!

Exercise:

I did my FitOn workout today and it was a grounding yoga class so that was perfect. I didn’t want to tire out my body before my run tomorrow as I’m hoping that will help my run be longer and better. My data woes are still driving me crazy with these classes, but I can persevere.

Knitting:

I am making progress on my Bentley cardigan and on the granny stripe blanket. I had also gotten a new Musselburgh hat started last night so I could knit on that since I wasn’t driving today. I actually got quite a bit done:)

Well, I’m off to bed to read.

Have fun!

A Little Busy of Good Things

I was definitely busier today but it was all nice things so that’s okay with me. It’s like my week is breaking me in gently and every day gets a little busier.

I went and had my eyebrows and eyelashes died. The esthetician wanted to test a new lash lift product on me, but it didn’t arrive in time. She’ll let me know when it comes in and I’ll go back for her. She says I have the longest eyelashes she’s seen so they make a good testing ground.

I spent a few minutes stitching in the sunshine before lunch and it’s getting exciting as I’m getting closer and closer to being done the first page. I’m not sure I’ll get any done tomorrow, but I figure these two days have definitely helped the progress!

I then met up with my friend Em after lunch for a walk in a new park. This park is cool because a guy created natural sculptures and it’s like a scavenger hunt to find them. We agreed it would be nice if they had given a general direction as we walked up and down the hill many times before finding them. We found five of the six sculptures and managed not to fall in the mud, so a success! it was an awesome two hours in the sunshine with a good friend. I didn’t let the ton of other people searching bother me:)

I got home to a package at my door. It is once again for the A version of my apartment number. I’ve delivered all of his other packages but haven’t even gotten a thank you so I’ve decided to leave this one right where it is and see how long it takes him to figure out where his package is. Maybe it will inspire him to talk to Amazon about their delivery of his packages!

When I got home I quickly made some nut butter muffins I have been thinking of making all week. This is actually a recipe I found on the FitOn app, but I have to admit I won’t be making it again. They taste fine, but with no flour they are too light and airy. I like my muffins to be more dense than that, plus they use stevia and I really don’t like the after taste of that stuff. I have a big bag of it that I should probably just throw out.

I also made myself do my FitOn workout before I sat down with any yarn. I did a Total Body Sweat and I just sat and knitted every time it needed to buffer. The last two days I have done other moves during this time, but I have a run tomorrow and wanted to take it a little easier on my legs to see if I could take less walk breaks tomorrow. We shall see and it still got done:)

Finally I got to do more knitting. This morning before my appointment I had taken out the crochet I had started yesterday as I realized I remembered enough to do a prettier pattern than what I had started. I had gotten three repeats of a granny stripe done but will rip it out and do the cast on with a bigger hook.

That meant this evening I could go back to working on my Bentley Cardigan by Marie Greene. I have to admit I am not overjoyed with this pattern so far. I feel like there is a lack of balance. Every single row is written out for the first 50 rows or so and then suddenly it says to fit the pattern in as can do and to continue in this manner. I paid for the pattern, I expect the work to be done for me. Put less into the first 50 rows and don’t become lazy!😖

I have gotten once again to the sleeve separation and about five rows beyond it. Unfortunately it is now time to put it away as I get to go read in bed now:)

Have fun!
