Super Surprise Saturday

Well for a day that I had no plans for, it turned out quite lovely.

Knitting:

I tried to go get my blood test done this morning, but one part has to be specifically timed so I’ll try again tomorrow. Thankfully I had much better luck buying a Pom Pom at the yarn store. I finished knitting the second version of the Thistle Seed Beanie with only worsted weight this time. I haven’t attached the Pom Pom yet and won’t until the EA tries it on.

Socializing:

I met up with Brenda at the yarn shop and we went for tea afterwards. We tried Black Sugar which was a new cafe for me. It was super busy on Saturday morning, but I have to admit I wasn’t super happy with their chai latte.

Eating:

I just got home from coffee with Brenda when I got an offer to go for lunch with Lyndsay. We grabbed waffles from Green Mustache. This is really the only thing I ever order from this cafe. They are super yummy!

I’ve also had oatmeal, popcorn and cucumber with cheese today. Hopefully better than yesterday!

Exercise:

I did finally get out for a run this afternoon. I had to do my usual sidewalk to the park and back, but I figure that is still better than the treadmill. I knocked another 4km off. It wasn’t my fastest run as I’ve been fighting tired all day.

I’m sitting at 9 runs and 11 workouts so I’d better get back out there tomorrow!

Movie:

I went tonight with Lyndsay to see Parasite and wasn’t impressed. I feel like someone should check on the mental health of the people who nominate movies for the Oscars as they all seem to be violent or depressing this year. This movie was going along pretty good until it suddenly took a turn to awful! I definitely wouldn’t vote for this movie!

Well I’m going to watch a little Hallmark to get Parasite out of my head.

Have fun!

It Was Time

I can’t believe it’s almost December!

Exercise:

I got to sleep in this morning but then had to drag myself out for a run. I was 10.8km short of 100km for the month and figured I could do a ten k. At 2.5km I seriously thought about turning around and just calling it a day at 5km, but I had set it up that I was doing 8 and 1s today since my brain wasn’t in it. It really seemed to help today to only have to think about doing 8 minutes because the next thing i knew I was at 10.22km. I still won’t quite hit 100km for the month, but I’m happy enough with 99.4.

Eating:

I’ve had my rice cake with Pb & j, a piece of lemon cheesecake and 2/3 of a veggie wrap.

I had a coupon for a free piece of cheesecake from Green Mustache. I tried to go on Thursday night but they only had turmeric ginger cheesecake- not what I wanted! Today I did get a veggie wrap and lemon cheesecake, but it was painful trying to purchase it and they told me my gift card had no money on it. Grrrr!

Shopping:

When I first got my smartphone I planned to use it as my running watch. This plan hasn’t quite gone as planned as sometimes it’s annoying to have to carry a phone when I don’t have pockets, or like today, my phone starts acting weird and the tracking ends early:( (did it really happen if it’s not recorded???)

So I did some research yesterday as my SIL loves her Fitbit Versa, but after reading that they weren’t always accurate for runs, I decided to go for a sports watch as my primary reason for having it was to track runs. I saw the running watches were on sale at my local Runner’s Den so I went looking after my run. I ended up with a Garmin Forerunner 35 as it’s the smallest sports watch they offer. What is even better is that with the two gift cards I got last year form my class, I got it for free:) I actually even have $8 leftover:). I just hope it works well!

Knitting:

I am working on the run if my mommy daughter hat and am so close to being done. It should happen tonight! It’s been a much easier knit since I got to move to knitting in the round.

Movies:

I met up with our secretary today to see the movie, Last Christmas. This movie so didn’t go how I was expecting! I can’t say much as it would give way too many spoilers, but it didn’t go as I planned. It was a nice movie I would recommend, but it won’t make it into my top ten rom coms. I did like this line from it though:

“Take good care of my heart It was meant to be yours somehow”

I also watched some Hallmark movies today. I haven’t let myself start the Christmas movies so yesterday day I watched From Friend to Fiancé . It was cute and I liked how no one got hurt in the movie. I thought it was going to follow the movie My Best Friend’s Wedding, but I actually like how this one ends better!

Today I watched Love Under the Rainbow which was also satisfying. I really want that teacher’s class though!

Reading:

I finally finished Neanderthal Marries Human by Penny Reid. This book took me a long time to get through! I really want to read book five in this series, but I think I might break my own rule and just read that one.

Well I wish I was staying up later, but that is just not happening.

Have fun!

I Need a Better Strategy!

Right now my strategy for getting through meetings seems to be eating:( I really need a better strategy that I don’t regret so much afterwards!

Exercise:

I started the day with a workout with L as I figured this might help me survive what was to come. We did a half hour on the treadmill that all seemed to be sprinting intervals. I actually made it up to 7.5mph on the treadmill. It’s still slow compared to L’s 10mph, but it’s an improvement over my old speed!

We also did some weights- three sets of each of: lunge to shoulder press, single leg lunge with hop, burpee to squat Jack, and pop jacks. Of course L added in a minute of cardio between each of these just to make sure I really was dripping sweat!🤣

This evening I got out for a run in the sunshine that finally reappeared. It was a quick run to the park and back, but I had a decent speed and I didn’t want to do too much when I should be doing a long run tomorrow morning.

Teaching:

I had no kids today but instead had to attend a day of meetings to plan for next year. Ugh. I so dislike these days for many reasons!

  • I have to sit in one spot all day while not reading a book
  • Some people talk too much
  • Some people say stupid things over and over again
  • You can’t tell people that what they’re saying is stupid
  • You have to look engaged at all times
  • I’m in a room with snacks I wouldn’t normally eat
  • I have to be constantly vigilant to not say the wrong thing
  • I can’t let my bluntness take over
  • I swear I could accomplish all of these things in under an hour and yet it takes three hours
  • All that can be said is that I survived and I don’t think I’ve made any more enemies than I had before the day started.
  • Reading:
  • I finally finished 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne. I had requested this book because I absolutely adored The Hating Game by her (which I hear is being made into a movie🎉🎊), but this one I had a really tough time with. First of all there was a lot of thought or in the head stuff in this book, which I have to admit is not a favourite of mine. I’d rather have stuff actually happening. Secondly, the characters seemed immature, weird and annoying! It might be because we hear all the female’s thoughts, but even her thoughts seemed really weird to me! I also would have really liked to have the narrator rotate between the three main characters as I think it would have added interest and depth to the book. Sorry, but I just can’t recommend this book:(
  • Eating:
  • My eating was horrible this morning and it has actually taken the rest of the day and a run for me to not feel so overly full!
  • Breakfast: hard boiled egg, scone
  • Recess: banana, mandarin orange, candy (thank goodness there wasn’t more I could eat!)
  • Lunch: waffles with figs, chia seed jam and cashew cream (my usual at Green Mustache) and a venti tea
  • It’s way better when my mom is here to share with me!
  • The only good thing was that when my mom texted the news they had made a big purchase, I didn’t eat- I went for a run:)
  • I have spent the evening working on my mom’s Gift and I can’t tell you about it as she reads my blog every day🤣
  • Have fun!

  • Today is Brought to you By the Letters Ch

I just couldn’t stop thinking, how is it only Tuesday?

    Teaching:

After a very difficult time getting out of bed, I headed to work. We had a parent come in and talk about his job as a financial analyst with a distribution company- definitely not something the children knew about. It’s a neat job as it requires math skills.

I’m starting to think the children are just into the swag they get🤣

We subtracted zero and the number itself. I’m glad these topics went quickly as it will let me get a little caught up in math. I don’t know how I got so far behind!

Finally this afternoon we had gymnastics which the students did wonderful at and a coding activity. Last week the students had built a community on a grid and today they had to direct the car to get to certain destinations.

It was amazing how engaged they all were and how quickly they caught on. One thing though, we need to take the tape off and draw the grid. We have lots more ideas of where we can take this in third term!

    Socializing:

After hibernating during all the recent snow, I had a very social night! It started with a massage where my glutes talked back to me. Then I met my friend for dinner at The Green Mustache. I decided on lemon cheesecake.

My aunt always told me to order what I didn’t get at home. The taste of the cheesecake was excellent, not too heavy and it was a beautiful presentation. I do wish it had been a slightly smoother texture though; I found the cashew was ground up enough for my taste.

We then moved on to trivia at the St James Well. I indulged in chicken wings which didn’t look anything like I was expecting! We think we were about middle of the pack, but it only ever shows the top six teams. For only having three people again, we’re okay with that!

Well I’m home and dead tired so off to sleep.

    Have fun!

    Snow Day

Well the miraculous occurred- my third snow day in 33 years with the district!

    Teaching:

I still had to make my way to work, but thankfully Lyndsay came with me! I would have been on my own as my principal didn’t show up for another hour! Then she said I had to stay all day, even though we had no kids show up! I was not a happy camper! She did finally let me go around recess time. I got stuff done though- three addition anchor charts made, the loose parts at least put in the empty drawer, my home reading assessment books moved to a more easily accessible spot, a box in my library replaced and labeled, and a couple of shelves gone through. Not bad, but if there’s another snow day tomorrow I’m wearing more clothes and taking food, in case I am kept there all day!

    Eating:

On our way home, Lyndsay and I stopped at Green Mustache for brunch. We both had the walnut waffles with chia jam and cashew cream.

They were very yummy! I know I should have tried something new, but these just called me name. They also kept me full for the entire day!

    Exercise:

After a lovely 1.5 hour nap on the couch, I got out for a quick run. I am very grateful that my city keeps one sidewalk plowed. I’m getting bored of the route but it’s better than not being able to run at all! I had another quick 35 minute run and it was great. I don’t know where this relative speed is coming from, but I’ll take it and I hope it sticks around! I did get snowed on pretty hard on the way home!

    Knitting:

After a lovely agonizing massage, I have frogged and redone the knitted vest I started the other day. The pattern is lovely, but I am not enjoying the yarn which splits on almost every stitch😖. It’s a perfect match to the Great Expectations that I am listening to🙄

Well I’m off to watch the snowfall and continue knitting.

    Have fun!

    Hey, Hey, It’s the Weekend!

I was never so happy as to see Friday arrive! I was all braced for snow, even wore my snow boots to work, and we didn’t get one flake🤣. I’m not complaining though!

    Teaching:

I love how I mentioned a storage problem I was having to my mom yesterday and this morning I got to work to texted suggestions of what to do😍. We haven’t quite got the solution to how to store all these loose parts materials, but hopefully we’ll hit upon it soon!

My students were quite upset when there was no more penguin picture of the day (we ran out of types to look at), so today, we watched a penguin short video of the day. It was a great way to start the day:)

We wrote our Friday top ten list, had gym and tackled some more adding. This afternoon my students started building a home for Roz and Brightbill (The Wild Robot characters) with their big buddies. It was neat to see them all dive in!

    Exercise:

After work I met up with L for a workout. It’s been a while and it felt great to get a good workout in. I have to admit I didn’t love going my cardio on the elliptical though! We did cardio intervals, then squat thrusters, squat jumps with overhead press, sit up with Russian twist and plank up downs, squat with front press and plank rows. It was enough for the first workout in a month!

    Eating:

I had asked if L wanted to do dinner at the Green Mustache the other night, but it was too late, so we went tonight after our workout instead. I was really craving comfort food, and told them they should offer Mac n cheese! However tonight I had the chili which turned out to be really good! It’s probably the best tho g I’ve had so far and it was a big serving as I was too full to try one of their delicious desserts.

    Knitting:

My movie date with a friend was cancelled so I’ve had a quiet night st home. I’ve been knitting the handwarmers. I thought I was done until I realized one was two rows shorter than the other. I couldn’t leave it and took it apart to add the two rows. Hopefully I’ll be done by tomorrow!

Well I’m off to ponder whether it is wrong to order grocery delivery when I live across the street from the grocery store???

    Have fun!

    Surprise!

It was quite a nice day with a surprise:)

    Exercise:

We were out on the dykes for the run this morning. Yesterday I had been thinking I’d go as far as the marina, but this morning I really didn’t think I’d make it that far (about 7km roundtrip), but surprise surprise, I did. I didn’t push the pace and wasn’t as fast as I would have liked, but I did it comfortably. It’s been nice to have a couple of runs in a row that have felt good!

I got out for a walk this afternoon to take care of the Monday Squad Runner mission and I managed a 1:20 plank and my 200 squats. A pretty successful exercising day!

    Cooking:

I didn’t plan to spend the day in the kitchen again? But surprise, surprise, I did.

My friend was just told she had to go gluten free and dairy free, but she was craving chocolate chip cookies. I decided to test a new recipe before sending it to her to make sure it was good

I tried the recipe from Minimalist Baker and was super impressed! They were easy to make and quick, though they did require a half hour of chilling. They tasted good right from the oven and a few hours later. I’d definitely recommend this recipe!

I also had coconut milk left over from my mac n cheese yesterday, and instead of making hot chocolate with it, Sarah suggested a curry. I had a few veggies left over so decided to make the creamy vegetable curry from Oh She Glows. I have to admit Oh She Glows and Minimalist Baker are two of my go-to resources for gf/df recipes. You need to have all the ingredients recipe as the process goes super quick. I have done this before with the cashew cream it calls for, but it was just as good with the coconut milk too!

I really felt like I was cooking as I even made my own curry from this Minimalist Baker recipe.

All in all, a successful cooking day. Amazingly it was a successful eating day too as I managed to restrain myself and got the cookies into the freezer quickly. I have also frozen a bit of the curry to see how it turns out.

    Socializing:

While I was out walking, I got a surprise text from my friend Lyndsay wondering if I wanted to go for an early dinner at the Green Mustache. I wasn’t super hungry so I had the powerfoods hot chocolate. It tasted good, but I have to admit that while their food and desserts have been amazing, I find their drinks a little powdery. Maybe putting them through a bit milk bag would help.

I do love having a friend who lives close and likes to do the same things I do!

    Knitting:

After a nap, I went back to my knitting. I am down the front of the new sweater and am on the back, and hopefully by tonight I will be starting the sleeves. Sometimes it’s a really good thing to be small!

Surprise, surprise, I finished my temperature cowl today! I’ve gotten tired of having it hanging over my head, so I finished it. I really wasn’t thinking I’d like it, but I think I do😳. I’m going to wear it tomorrow to work, so I’ll let you know how it goes!

I don’t love the joins at the day breaks, but I did like how it ended up going in bands.

The yarn is Sweet Georgia sock yarn mini skeins.

Well, I’m back to the sweater now that I have my clothes ready and all my food prepped.

    Have fun!

    Happy Weekend

Wow my luck held for another quiet day at school. How did I get this lucky?

    Teaching:

We wrote our Friday journals, but instead of writing about what we liked this week, we wrote about what we’re looking forward to. After reading them, I guess I had better get planning on a field trip!

We did our place value through colouring a 100 chart picture of a penguin. I love these as the children have to listen and they can be used to practice any math skills:)

This afternoon we just had buddies and the usual afternoon events.

It was a lovely, quiet day in my room. Can I hope for some more like this?

I got the questions about penguins posted in the hallway and already students and adults are stopping to read:)

    Exercise:

I met up with L for a workout tonight. It was a favourite style as we did alternated short stints on the bike, elliptical/treadmill and the floor. It was mainly cardio, but we also did jump squats, sit ups, plank jacks, speed skaters, and bench up and overs. We had six rounds and I love this style of workout because it feels like it goes fast:)

    Eating:

L and I went back to the Green Mustache and this time I had a chai latte along with the Buddha bowl. I forgot to take pictures though:( L had the raw pad Thai and it was good too. We both loved our dressings! We split the chocolate avocado tart for dessert and boy did it taste rich!!! Yum!!!

    Knitting:

Knit night got cancelled as B had a headache so I got to veg out in my jammies and knit. I really should have been sewing in ends on my temperature cowl, but instead I’m working on a scarf for one of the HPKCHC classes. It will also use two more skeins out of my stash. I need to get my stash as low as possible before April when the yarn crawl is:)

Well I’m going back to knitting.

    Have fun!
