Monday with a Side of Drama

It was an interesting day to say the least! Thankfully I was just the audience for most of it!

We had a fire drill first thing this morning, but after that I had arranged for the students to use a giant marshmallow and 6 pretzel sticks to create a character that they then wrote about in their journal. The students were super engaged and were surprisingly good about getting down to the writing portion. Getting to eat their creation for recess may have helped:)

After recess we wrote about Sports Day and boy did they have a lot to say. I wish I had had more time to give them!

This afternoon we moved across Canada to Quebec. The students are getting really good at using their planner information pages to find out facts:)

At the end of the day we had our usual half hour of outside playtime:)

The drama came at lunch. We had arranged a breakfast for the last day of school, but we have to be there on time so the breakfast is at 7:45 for anyone who is interested. Teacher A was complaining about how early it was and Teacher B (who was in on the planning) said that it wasn’t mandatory so people didn’t have to come who didn’t want to. Well ten minutes later Teacher A is going on about how hurt she was. I thought at first she was joking around, but I guess not!

Then Teacher C asked what we did last year so Teacher B explained it to her. She didn’t bother to listen and asked again. Well Teacher B said I just answered your question and you didn’t bother to listen. Teacher C got up and stormed out. Teacher C then pouted and glared and my co-teacher and I on the playground later (neither of us were involved in any way!). I think we all need a break from each other!!!!

After a few classroom chores I got home in time for a run. I had a really good run and once again felt really strong. It’s a nice change for me! I still went out the shorter side of the trail as it’s shadier and it was really hot at 4:30 this afternoon!

It was weird though because my shoes felt big today! It’s strange as it’s been at least a month of my feet feeling way too big in my shoes and now they felt so big. I wonder what’s up?

I also did a workout I saw on Facebook this evening. It was:

30 sumo squats

30 walking lunges

80 high knees

40 glute kickbacks

40 side jacks

40 curtsy lunges

30 bridges

It was quick but I only did one round as I wanted to take it easy on myself tonight.

We have a baby shower for one of the teachers at work tomorrow so I made Rhubarb Dream Bars. They were super easy to make as they are just a shortbread crust and then a vanilla custard with rhubarb added topping. They looked good when they came out of the oven.

I just hope they taste good! The teacher has a peanut allergy so I was examining my ingredients when I realized the flour blend I currently have has milk in it. I guess I now know why I’ve had so many instances lately of being sick.

I finally sat down and worked on my cardigan today. I am a little worried that I’ve made it too long, but thinking I’ll just keep going- better too long than too short!

Once again I’ve been enjoying a Hallmark movie as I knit boring stockinette. Tonight it is The Sweetest Heart. Once again there are three very handsome gentlemen in this movie and it’s about a baker so I of course love all the cupcakes and baking scenes. I have to admit I find myself slightly distracted by the mark Julie Gonzalo (lead lady) has between her eyes. Oh well, it’s still cute!

Well that’s it for me!

Have fun!

Very Quiet

It was lovely to have a quiet day that felt a little productive too:)

I got out for a lovely 6km run this morning with Dennis.

Sorry you always get the same picture as it never changes🤣. We did see three planes take off though as that’s a small municipal airport I’m running beside.

I know it’s probably just in my head, but my legs actually felt stronger this morning. I’d like to think it’s because of the exercise I’ve been doing. I also loved that I ran to the hedge and considered it short. I remember the days I used to tell everyone to go ahead, that I was turning around, now I’m the one wanting to go further:)

This afternoon I got out for a quick walk just because it was too lovely not to:)

Finally this evening I did my exercises again, just in case that’s what made my run so good this morning. I did: 50 squats, 50 plié squats, 25 front lunges, 25 lateral lunges, 25 curtsy lunges, 25 back lunges, 100 front kicks, 100 back kicks, 100 side kicks, 100 hamstring curls, 100 standing crunches, 33 calf raises, 100 jabs, 100 hooks, 100 uppercuts, 100 heel and toe touches.

It was nice to get all this movement in:)

I managed to get all the laundry done and the dishes and I love how “doing” these things allowed me to lay on the couch reading my books🤣

Making my way through The Wangs Versus the World and to offset this, Getting Out of Hand by Erin Nicholas.

This is the story of a brilliant scientist who meets a woman when he returns to his hometown. It is definitely a case of insta-live but was an enjoyable, quick, easy read. One character drove me crazy, but I won’t let ruin the book for me.

I’ve had a very good eating day!

Breakfast- honey stinger chews on the way to my run

Snack- fruit salad with yogurt and granola

Lunch- chorizo sausage

Snack- cucumber and cheese

Dinner- bun with smoked salmon cream cheese

I’ve quite enjoyed watching a hallmark movie called My Christmas Love tonight. Johnny Campo is so nice to look at and I really liked his character in this movie. I have to admit I found the leading lady annoying. She’s a ditz so if that is what she was going for- she did a great job!

Well I’m going to go finish my book!

Have fun!

If It Rains, It Pours (good things)

I don’t know if anyone else’s life goes like this, but some weekends I have absolutely nothing planned and other weekends, it is insanely busy! Why can’t it even out so I’d have a couple things each weekend?

I had a short run through Bert Flynn Park with Sarah and Kula this morning. It was lovely and cool in there, but we also noticed the humidity. It was a slow run, but it’s a couple more kilometers towards my yearly goal:)

This afternoon I did an L workout that I missed yesterday. I liked it because it was a band one and I love the short circular bands! I did 3 sets of:

hammer curls with band and weights

Banded chest press and scissor abs

Banded plank walks

Banded iso squat walk

Bench flies

Sit ups

Jump squats

Lunge jumps

Amazingly I felt strong:)

This evening I managed to fit in 50 plié squats, 100 hamstring curls, and 100 standing crunches.

First thing after my run I met up with my friend Anna and her two boys at a local park. It’s amazing how much the boys have grown and it was great fun to play on the playground and then go on a berry and duckling and gosling search:)

From the park I ran down to meet my co teacher at a local teaching store so we could get the supplies we need for September start up. We’ve learned to buy them now as the store is quiet and has lots of stock; definitely not the case in September!

Liane and I had a quick lunch together, but I quickly had to fly.

From lunch, I raced over to get my nephew and take him to his lacrosse game. I take any opportunity to spend time with this cool dude. I stayed and watched his game and was really impressed with how much he has improved! He’s also grown on me- 5’7 now!!! I also got to see my sister in law’s brother and his kids as they came out to watch too. It is so neat to see their personalities! The youngest is all muscle and determination, the middle girl is the brains and the ideas, and the oldest boy is so sweet! It made for a lovely afternoon!

I had ice cream with my nephew and sister in law and then headed home.

I have been knitting all afternoon (well after my nap). I’m working on a samosa bordered cardigan for myself. The yarn is recycled from a sweater my grandma had made for my aunt and the pattern comes from one of her original Patons books- Raglans for 2 to 12 in Canadians by Beehive. I’m hoping it will become my go to cardigan!

I treated myself to a Hallmark movie tonight. Summer Villa was a very cute movie about a blocked romance writer who goes to France for the summer with her daughter. Of course she ends up in a villa with the hot chef that she had a bad blind date with. The movie has tons of cooking in it so of course I loved it:). I liked that it lacked drama!

Not the best food choices today, but at least it’s a better amount of food!

Breakfast: fruit salad parfait with yogurt

Lunch: vegan fruit orchard cookie and tea- the only thing at the cafe I could eat

This was bucaneer tea which I would highly recommend if you ever get the chance to try it- so good!

Snack: vegan salted caramel and chocolate peanut butter ice cream

Dinner: salad with chicken

Manic Monday

It’s been quite the day of work!

I slept for extra time this morning and then headed into work. This morning we got our journal done, we started learning about 3D objects, and this afternoon we tackled our Father’s Day projects. It doesn’t seem like much, but yet I was running all day! It really didn’t help that the children were called in at lunch because of a bear sighting:(

After writing another five report cards after school, I headed home and got out for a run! It was a beautiful night and I finally felt pretty good at the halfway mark. There’s another 4.5km covered for the yearly goal:). I am feeling the lack of my weights lately though so I did my 50 banded squats, 50 plié squats, and 100 lunges. I need to do more so my running feels easy again, but it was at least a start!

I have spent the evening knitting endless stockinette while watching a movie.

I’ve been watching When Sparks Fly tonight. It was a cute movie, though some of the acting was truly awful! 🤣. I often wonder if July 4th is really celebrated how it’s portrayed. I’m always disappointed by the July 1st celebrations I’ve been to:(

Breakfast: 1/2 cup fruit salad, 1/3 cup yogurt and some granola

Recess: hard boiled egg and a chorizo sausage

Lunch: tuna snack kit, a snack size bag of chips (my team won the pizza party for jog a long, but I couldn’t eat the pizza so they gave me chips)

Snack: apple, larabar

Dinner: Thai salad

Not perfect. I have great weekends, but then I return to work and it all goes downhill:(

Well that’s it for me tonight.

Have fun!

A Busy Saturday

It was a busy day, but with fun things:)

I headed out this morning to do the Woodhaven Swamp up and over. I definitely didn’t remember how uphill it was! We ended up walking a lot of the uphill but then enjoyed the downhill. Sarah was even screaming “wheeeeee” on our way down the hill. We went around the swamp, but I started us off on the wrong path. It worked out though because we ran into two cute guys walking two cute labs:) Why don’t I meet these guys when I’ll see them again?

We ended up trying a different route back, but it worked out and I think next time we’ll go that route there and back so we can run all of it.

This evening I also got my usual routine done- 50 banded squats, 50 plié squats, 50 dips, 50 pushups, 25 crunches, 25 reverse crunches, 25 bicycle crunches, 25 Russian twists.

I purposely didn’t do lunges as I haven’t done them a lot and I don’t want to hurt for my long run tomorrow. I’ll just have to make sure I start including them more often!

I grabbed my mom for company and hit the library one town over. Yes I have read all the books I’m going to in my town’s library. I returned books and when I went to take books out, it wouldn’t let me:( It turned out they had put a note on my account to get me to go to the front desk because I had left my knitting needles in the knitting book I returned. I am so glad they found them as they were a pair of my expensive Addi Turbo needles!

I went to the thrift store and came home with some new running clothes and two cute dresses to wear to work which is almost what I went for🤣

I also stopped at the salon to get a pedicure gift certificate for my sister in law as her birthday was on Wednesday. It seemed like the perfect present for this time of year.

I also introduced my mom to the Green Mustache cafe. We shared the waddles.

We stopped at home for a cup of tea, but then I decided I needed a second look at a couch I had seen. I’m glad I went back as the second time I saw them I realized it definitely wasn’t the couch for me.

I did put the time at the mall to good use and used my David’s Tea gift card. I got Forever Nuts which I know I like and then two new teas, Alpine Punch and Banana Grapefruit that I’ll tell you about when I try them. They sure smelled good in the store though!

I brought my mom home and have been enjoying their cable tv.

We watched A Harvest Wedding with Jill Wagner. It seemed cute, but didn’t really feel chemistry between the two main characters.

I also watched Love at First Dance which was cute and the characters seemed right for each other. The ending was also very sweet and I have to admit to liking Niall Matter! I would recommend this one over the other.

I have finally chosen my next two knitting projects. It seemed much easier once HPKCHC was back to help me decide what to work on. I’m going to do a pair of socks first and then my black cardigan. I’ll go from there.

I had a pretty good eating day:)

A slice of crustless quiche

An apple- half with peanut butter and half with cheese because I wanted the best of both worlds

A half of an order of buckwheat banana waffles with figs, chia seed jam and cashew cream and half of a mango smoothie

Half of a chicken breast and four strawberries

What I’m thankful for:

1) having nature at my doorstep that is beautiful and safe for me to run in

2) having a mom who is similar enough that hanging out is fabulous, even when we do nothing exciting

3) encountering nice people in the world who go the extra step to help others

Well that’s it for me tonight.

Have fun!

It Started With Fun

My day started off fun, and continued to be quite nice, though normal. Everything is always nicer with company.

I started the day with a forest walk with running buddies who were just in town for the day. I seem to have earned the nickname “Petri dish”.🙄🤣

I have refrained from any other exercise, but it is getting more difficult every day! I hope I get some lung capacity soon!

We had an awesome brunch at our regular place. It was great to catch up with everyone!

I read all the options, but got my regular still!

I grabbed my mom again for company and got going on the list. I looked at the second hand store for a canning pot, but there wasn’t any. I finally ended up getting a starter canning kit at Canadian Tire. My mom says I started canning at about age 2 and often made jam when I was around 9, but my mom had downsized the canning equipment, so I had to rebuy. I’m excited to get started ASAP! I think it makes sense for me to can as then I’ll know exactly what’s in my food!

We stopped at the mall and my mom returned her printer ink, I grabbed some tech items at Walmart and then it was time for tea!

First we had to have carbonated water.

Yesterday I bought the SodaStream, but last night I kept getting flat water. I’m not the best at this type of thing so it was no surprise that my mom immediately got lovely bubbly water. Of course tonight, I’m back to flat water:(

I got all my food made for this week while my mom shortened some running tights for me. It was nice just to have company around.

I made the Thai Style Chili Mango salad from Costco and mixed it with ground turkey again. It was so good last week, I wanted it again this week.

I also roasted a ton of veggies with chicken for my lunches.

I have coconut yogurt, strawberries and oatmeal for breakfast. I really wanted granola, but didn’t get around to it until this evening. Unfortunately, my regular granola recipe didn’t turn out:(

I’ve been knitting on the April Tank again and have 27 rows of stockinette left!

Of course, I was watching Hallmark as I was knitting and enjoyed the movie, All Things Valentine.

Have fun!

Half Alive

Well I went back to work today though all I really wanted to do was sleep!

We had to do a lot of catch up as my TOC spent a lot of time singing with my class. Singing is great, but I really wish she had done what I had left first!!! My students were great though and we got through a lot!

Of course, first thing this morning I got the news I was getting a new international student today! It definitely made for a busy start and I’m nowhere near having everything ready for her:(

After school, I got home as quickly as I could so I could get a nap in. Totally necessary by that point!

I’ve had my nephew Gus tonight. We met up with my parents for dinner at Red Robin. I split a guacamole bacon burger with my mom, and it was okay. It was nice to see my parents finally since I was quarantined until this point

Gus and I continued on to play a couple of games of bowling. We were way better when we had them put the bumpers up🤣. I’m not sure bowling is ever going to be our game.

Finally we stopped for ice cream at Matteo’s and came home to veg. He is playing on his phone and I found a Hallmark movie:)

The Sweetest Heart is about a bakery owner who wants to expand, but just as her business has the opportunity to grow, her old flame returns to town. This movie has two very cute men in it and makes me want to bake!!!

I’m back to enjoying the couch with this cutie!

Another Monday

I was amazed that it wasn’t more difficult to get up this morning, though I definitely missed the daylight:(

We had a policeman come and talk to the class today and another professional engineer who works for hydro. The students were well behaved and had some interesting questions, though they seemed to be super obsessed with bad guys🙄

We got a tiny bit of math done and a Spring Bucket List. I wrote mine while the children wrote theirs.

Spring Bucket List (in no particular order)

Run a half marathon distance

Have naps

Walk on a beach

Go on a road trip

Visit a bookstore

Plant herbs

Check out Maria’s Gelato in Fort Langley

Fly a kite

Clean my closets

See my parents

Get some flowers

Wander around downtown

Replace my plants

Go on a trail run

Spend time with Gus

Ride my bike on the PoCo trail

Have ice cream at Umaluma

Stay in bed and watch movies all day

Visit a new town

Try a new restaurant

Go shopping for new clothes

This should keep my busy for a while🤣

I ran home quick and got out for a short run. It wasn’t as long as I expected but it was much wetter than I was expecting. I guess I should just be happy that it wasn’t the snow they were calling for!

I also got my 200 squats and 100 crunches done:)

I grabbed my mom to keep me company while I went out to try and get gas at Costco again. It was much quicker than yesterday! We wandered around the aisles which I never take the time to do, but I’m really glad I did!

I found this:

It’s probably crazy that I’m so excited about new tupperware🤣. I love that it has lots of 1/2 and 1 cup containers and the containers are marked with smaller amounts too! If it works well next week, I’ll be going back for a second set as that would get me through the whole week:)

I also stopped and got some more baking powder and flour but that’s not very exciting!

I’ve spent the evening knitting endless stockinette in the round and watching Hallmark movies. I watched Walking the Dog. It’s a very cute movie that features gorgeous water scenery and two awesome puppies! Sam Page definitely didn’t hurt the movie too. I liked how the story was realistic and not overly dramatic. The second storyline is also very sweet!

I also watched Country Wedding. Again, Jesse Metcalfe seriously helps this movie. I wonder how Hallmark gets all these gorgeous actors? This is a cute movie, though I’m not as big a fan of the whole Hollywood wedding storyline.

I’m going to need to stock up on movies for Spring Break!

It seems as though my mom won’t be around for my Spring Break, but I’ll be a big girl and get over it. My friends will help as I already have a hockey game midway through the break. I just have to find a few more things to keep me busy:)

Have fun!

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

The day was fine- nothing really out of the ordinary.

We did a journal on what the children want to be when they grow up as part of our community unit. There were a few who wanted to be teachers and one wanted to be a hockey player, specifically a goalie because his mom doesn’t want him to be a goalie. 🤣 oh my, those parents are going to have their hands full when he’s a teenager!

I discovered at lunch that my deconstructed stuffed pepper casserole was super yummy!!

We learned the commutative law in addition and this afternoon we brainstormed questions we can ask the parents who come to talk about their jobs. We are hoping to avoid the, “how old are you? Do you have a dog?” Questions this year.

After school was another painful staff meeting. It drives me nuts when people show up to meetings unprepared or who go off on unrelated tangents! Both scenarios waste everyone else’s time and I have much better things to be doing than sitting in that meeting!

I have to have a fiber optic cable installed in my place tomorrow and was told they needed access to my hall closet. I cleaned out the closet completely and then looked up and realized the panel is high on the wall and I probably really didn’t have to move anything. Ugh teach me to not look up! It was probably a good thing though as I pulled out a sweater the other day that had holes in it and tonight my favourite toque had holes in it. Two things is too much of a coincidence- something is eating my favourite clothing!😖

I really didn’t feel like doing anything tonight. I had walked to and from school and had walked a little further with Lyndsay, but then I got a double boost and figured I had better get my butt out the door. I got 4.6km done. It felt tough as I had just eaten and it wasn’t as fast as I have been lately, but I’m still pleased I got out:)

Late last night I finished my current NetGalley book, Love on Location.

The story of Delaney and Wyatt moving from friendship to romance. They’ve been friends forever, but they’re both afraid to ruin their friendship by taking a chance on love until a glamorous stranger is added into the mix.

I enjoyed the book as it had lots of details that depict that quintessential childhood camp experience. Some of the drama of the tv series was annoying, but the camp details made up for it.

The characters were interesting and I so wanted to work with that group of people! They seem like an amazing “family” of friends! It would be so fun to go to work everyday with them! They care about each other and look out for each other.

This whole book had a nostalgic feeling for me and it was a lovely read. Would be perfect for summer!

Thank you to the Cassidy, Hallmark and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Well I’m in my jammies and settled on the couch. My biggest question is whether I should knit or read:)

Have fun!

A Little Work, A Little Fun

It was a nice mix of a day and way better than I was expecting.

It was just Brenda and I this morning so I walked with her. We did 2.5km and thankfully I had my yak trax on as this trail was slippery with ice too! It was definitely a lot quieter out there!

I also got another short walk in later today and a workout. The workout was three sets of 8 minutes where you do as many reps as you can. I did 30 side shuffle with touchdown, 20 squats, 10 pushups. The second set is 30 jumping jacks, 20 lunges, 10 tricep dips. Finally the third set was 30 mountain climbers, 20 bicycle crunches and 10 donkey kicks on both sides. I was definitely feeling a little warm by the end!

Reading/ House:

I got my four chapters done of The Other Alcott and I got some housework done. I am becoming my mother! I used to get after her about getting distracted with other jobs, but now I do it too. I went to the kitchen to gather the recycling and realized I needed a pop box so I went to the fridge, but getting the box out of there led to me cleaning the fridge, which led to loading the dishwasher which finally got me back to the recycling. I also got the vacuuming done and a load of laundry done. Not bad as I figure I’d better start today for Bookclub is at my house next Sunday!

I was sitting quietly reading when I heard from my friend Michelle. We decided to walk to get coffee and then watch a movie at her place. We wandered through Donald’s Market as well and I found my Soya cheese for cheaper!

We watched Hallmark’s A Winter Proposal. This is a sequel to One Winter Weekend. It was a very cute movie, though Michelle and I had it figured out well before the end. I laugh at how every movie is all action for the last ten minutes. I have to admit I liked the first movie better, but I’m glad I saw this one.

Well I’m back to reading and maybe a little knitting as I’m so close to being done the vest now!

Have fun!

Where I ran today, but on a much less snowy day!
