Another Monday

I was amazed that it wasn’t more difficult to get up this morning, though I definitely missed the daylight:(

Teaching:

We had a policeman come and talk to the class today and another professional engineer who works for hydro. The students were well behaved and had some interesting questions, though they seemed to be super obsessed with bad guys🙄

We got a tiny bit of math done and a Spring Bucket List. I wrote mine while the children wrote theirs.

Spring Bucket List (in no particular order)

Run a half marathon distance

Have naps

Walk on a beach

Go on a road trip

Visit a bookstore

Plant herbs

Check out Maria’s Gelato in Fort Langley

Fly a kite

Clean my closets

See my parents

Get some flowers

Wander around downtown

Replace my plants

Go on a trail run

Spend time with Gus

Ride my bike on the PoCo trail

Have ice cream at Umaluma

Stay in bed and watch movies all day

Visit a new town

Try a new restaurant

Go shopping for new clothes

This should keep my busy for a while🤣

Exercise:

I ran home quick and got out for a short run. It wasn’t as long as I expected but it was much wetter than I was expecting. I guess I should just be happy that it wasn’t the snow they were calling for!

I also got my 200 squats and 100 crunches done:)

Shopping:

I grabbed my mom to keep me company while I went out to try and get gas at Costco again. It was much quicker than yesterday! We wandered around the aisles which I never take the time to do, but I’m really glad I did!

I found this:

It’s probably crazy that I’m so excited about new tupperware🤣. I love that it has lots of 1/2 and 1 cup containers and the containers are marked with smaller amounts too! If it works well next week, I’ll be going back for a second set as that would get me through the whole week:)

I also stopped and got some more baking powder and flour but that’s not very exciting!

Movies:

I’ve spent the evening knitting endless stockinette in the round and watching Hallmark movies. I watched Walking the Dog. It’s a very cute movie that features gorgeous water scenery and two awesome puppies! Sam Page definitely didn’t hurt the movie too. I liked how the story was realistic and not overly dramatic. The second storyline is also very sweet!

I also watched Country Wedding. Again, Jesse Metcalfe seriously helps this movie. I wonder how Hallmark gets all these gorgeous actors? This is a cute movie, though I’m not as big a fan of the whole Hollywood wedding storyline.

I’m going to need to stock up on movies for Spring Break!

It seems as though my mom won’t be around for my Spring Break, but I’ll be a big girl and get over it. My friends will help as I already have a hockey game midway through the break. I just have to find a few more things to keep me busy:)

Have fun!

Nothing Out of the Ordinary

The day was fine- nothing really out of the ordinary.

Teaching:

We did a journal on what the children want to be when they grow up as part of our community unit. There were a few who wanted to be teachers and one wanted to be a hockey player, specifically a goalie because his mom doesn’t want him to be a goalie. 🤣 oh my, those parents are going to have their hands full when he’s a teenager!

I discovered at lunch that my deconstructed stuffed pepper casserole was super yummy!!

We learned the commutative law in addition and this afternoon we brainstormed questions we can ask the parents who come to talk about their jobs. We are hoping to avoid the, “how old are you? Do you have a dog?” Questions this year.

After school was another painful staff meeting. It drives me nuts when people show up to meetings unprepared or who go off on unrelated tangents! Both scenarios waste everyone else’s time and I have much better things to be doing than sitting in that meeting!

House:

I have to have a fiber optic cable installed in my place tomorrow and was told they needed access to my hall closet. I cleaned out the closet completely and then looked up and realized the panel is high on the wall and I probably really didn’t have to move anything. Ugh teach me to not look up! It was probably a good thing though as I pulled out a sweater the other day that had holes in it and tonight my favourite toque had holes in it. Two things is too much of a coincidence- something is eating my favourite clothing!😖

Exercise:

I really didn’t feel like doing anything tonight. I had walked to and from school and had walked a little further with Lyndsay, but then I got a double boost and figured I had better get my butt out the door. I got 4.6km done. It felt tough as I had just eaten and it wasn’t as fast as I have been lately, but I’m still pleased I got out:)

MReading:

Late last night I finished my current NetGalley book, Love on Location.

The story of Delaney and Wyatt moving from friendship to romance. They’ve been friends forever, but they’re both afraid to ruin their friendship by taking a chance on love until a glamorous stranger is added into the mix.

I enjoyed the book as it had lots of details that depict that quintessential childhood camp experience. Some of the drama of the tv series was annoying, but the camp details made up for it.

The characters were interesting and I so wanted to work with that group of people! They seem like an amazing “family” of friends! It would be so fun to go to work everyday with them! They care about each other and look out for each other.

This whole book had a nostalgic feeling for me and it was a lovely read. Would be perfect for summer!

Thank you to the Cassidy, Hallmark and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Well I’m in my jammies and settled on the couch. My biggest question is whether I should knit or read:)

Have fun!

A Little Work, A Little Fun

It was a nice mix of a day and way better than I was expecting.

Exercise:

It was just Brenda and I this morning so I walked with her. We did 2.5km and thankfully I had my yak trax on as this trail was slippery with ice too! It was definitely a lot quieter out there!

I also got another short walk in later today and a workout. The workout was three sets of 8 minutes where you do as many reps as you can. I did 30 side shuffle with touchdown, 20 squats, 10 pushups. The second set is 30 jumping jacks, 20 lunges, 10 tricep dips. Finally the third set was 30 mountain climbers, 20 bicycle crunches and 10 donkey kicks on both sides. I was definitely feeling a little warm by the end!

Reading/ House:

I got my four chapters done of The Other Alcott and I got some housework done. I am becoming my mother! I used to get after her about getting distracted with other jobs, but now I do it too. I went to the kitchen to gather the recycling and realized I needed a pop box so I went to the fridge, but getting the box out of there led to me cleaning the fridge, which led to loading the dishwasher which finally got me back to the recycling. I also got the vacuuming done and a load of laundry done. Not bad as I figure I’d better start today for Bookclub is at my house next Sunday!

Socializing:

I was sitting quietly reading when I heard from my friend Michelle. We decided to walk to get coffee and then watch a movie at her place. We wandered through Donald’s Market as well and I found my Soya cheese for cheaper!

Movie:

We watched Hallmark’s A Winter Proposal. This is a sequel to One Winter Weekend. It was a very cute movie, though Michelle and I had it figured out well before the end. I laugh at how every movie is all action for the last ten minutes. I have to admit I liked the first movie better, but I’m glad I saw this one.

Well I’m back to reading and maybe a little knitting as I’m so close to being done the vest now!

Have fun!

AJ

Where I ran today, but on a much less snowy day!

A Great Ending

It was a regular day with a nice ending, the best kind of day to have:)

Reading:

I do have to start by saying that I finished The Hating Game by Sally Thorne last night. I really enjoyed this book. It’s chick lit or a beach read, but cleverly done. The characters are complex and interesting and the plot is not the typical romance book. It is definitely worth the read!

I am so glad to finally be out of my reading slump!

Teaching:

We write up our top ten of the week again this morning. I had one little guy who tried to make his the top one of the week🤣. There was a quick new rule requiring at least three events!

We cleaned our desks, played a compound word game, read and talked about Groundhog Day and read with our buddies. We eased into the weekend with centers time. All in all, I don’t think anyone was upset over our day:)

Exercise:

The Squad Runner app was being its regular glitchy self and I thought about using that as an excuse to not run, but reminded myself that I have a personal goal of 1200km this year! It also helped that I said I was trying to avoid 2km runs this month as I forced myself to keep going to 3.09km today. It was not a great run, but I can’t have speed every day!

Socializing:

I hung out with my friend Michelle tonight. As teachers, we’re pretty bagged on Friday nights so we caught up (you should read about her recent adventures in Europe) and then watched the Hallmark movie, Royal New Year’s Eve. It was a cute movie and I actually really enjoyed the personality of the main female. It didn’t hurt that the leading male is quite nice looking too. Michelle and I agreed that we liked how the princess to be wasn’t a shrew:)

Well that’s my exciting Friday night and I am off to bed!

Have fun!

AJ

I Know Better!

I let it get to me:)

Knitting:

I wanted to spend some time on my sleeve before school, but I then realized I’m 90% sure it’s going to be way too big so I lost my enthusiasm:(

Teaching:

I let the fact that I say everything ten times get to me today! We had our first writer’s workshop lesson this morning. The children did pretty well, but I had already lost track of how many times I had the same instructions over!

Our math time was rushed as we only had twenty minutes and I was trying to start the assessment on place value. So far I’m pretty happy with how the four children I got through did, but didn’t like the flustered feeling!

This afternoon we had to leave gym early as there were just too many accidents and kids hurt. They just didn’t seem to hear the reminder that they needed to remain in their feet!!!

Ugh most days the fact I repeat stuff all day doesn’t get to me, but today it did!

Reading:

Tonight, I came home to escape reality and I finally finished my current book, The Secret Ingredient by Nancy Naigle.

This is the story of Andrew York and Kelly McIntyre. They were high school sweethearts who loved to cook and bake together, but became separated. The story chronicles their second chance.

I liked the characters in this story and that there was plenty of background interest too. Kelly is a strong woman who grows stronger through the separation. Andrew is a bit of a dud at the start, but definitely sweetens up.

Kelly’s pet pig steals every scene he is in and the story between Andrew and his father adds interest.

I have to admit I felt like I had read an entire book by the time I got halfway through to where the plot really picked up. I felt as though this could have been two books- their second chance and then their new adventure. However, the plot twist definitely sweetened me on this book! It was a wonderful and delicious twist that made me go awwww.

Anyone who enjoys a second chance romance or anyone who enjoys baking or cooking (like me) will enjoy this book! I loved the detail included about the baking! Made me want to go make something in the kitchen.

Thank you to Nancy Naigle, Hallmark and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Exercise:

Sarah and I were supposed to go the run clinic tonight, but we were both home early so we went out by ourselves. It was a good thing I was meeting here as I wouldn’t have been going otherwise! It was dark, cold and the rain was literally bouncing off the sidewalk!

We did a warm-up run over to the park and then since it was hills night at clinic we did hills. I put a dice roll app on my phone and used that to determine we had to do 3 reps of the hill and then we ran back home. It was great to do this with someone as it actually got done!

Well I’m going to leave you and go tackle fixing my sleeve!

Have fun!

AJ

Getting Back To It

It’s been another quiet day, but that’s probably a good thing before the chaos starts again on Monday.

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah for a run this morning. We got a little lost, as usual, but it was fun!

This evening I managed to get out for a walk as well. It wasn’t running so I figured I had better get it while it was good:)

I also did squats and a plank for the second day. Need to start building up the muscle again. I swear they all atrophied while I was laying on the couch last week🤣

Family:

Well we finally settled on a place to rent for Christmas next year. It only took two days. It was a tough decision because there was one that was an amazing deal but required the kids to sleep on air mattresses if there was the gorgeous one with enough beds but double the price. We’re going to go with the amazing deal as we can do a lot of events for all that money. It’s tough to do group things as there are just so many different personalities in my family. It will be interesting to see if we survive our first family holiday together.😳

Baking:

I grabbed a few groceries after my run and made a batch of Bisquick biscuits to use up the bisquick I had in the cupboard. They looked good, but were super crumbly. I think it was just the nature of Bisquick, or at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Movies:

I watched A Shoe Addict’s Christmas with Candace Cameron Bure this afternoon and loved it. It is such a cute movie! It follows the basic outline of A Christmas Carol but its shoes that move her through time. Most of the shoes were gorgeous so of course it gets my vote for being a good movie!

Knitting;

I also finished up the cowl I had started earlier. It used up three skeins of yarn and was a super easy knit while turning out pretty. It used Morena yarn and the free pattern off Ravelry called Cowl for Coba. This is a “no think” pattern that shows off yarn very nicely.

I am happy with how it turned out.

I have also spent some time weaving in ends on my temperature scarf. I feel like I may be old and gray before I get them all finished.

Well I’m going back to watch another Hallmark movie:)

Have fun!

AJ

Merry Christmas

My day was surprisingly quiet but lovely. I have a few pictures to show you but unfortunately I’m yet again out of memory:( I guess I’m going to have to step up and pay and change my site. I’ll let you know when I figure it out.

Baking:

I was supposed to go to my brother’s for 8:45, but my sister in law texted about 7:30 and said they were already awake and to come anytime. I quickly baked the maple nut scones I had made previously for the Fantastic Bake Along. I knew immediately they weren’t going to be as good as last time. The batter was just too runny:(. I took them anyways, but at this point I’m almost afraid to try baking anything☹️

Family:

I sat and opened presents with my brother, sister in law and nephew. I love how they do one gift at a time so everyone can see what people got. I love watching people open gifts! They surprised me with a gift card for a pedicure. It was so not necessary!

My sister in law made an amazing breakfast of egg cups, bacon and fruit salad. It was all so yummy!!!!

Cooking:

I came home and got my dressing prepared. It’s always drier when it’s made outside the bird, but boy is it yummy! I tried cornbread stuffing but definitely prefer my pork and poultry seasoning- easy and yummy!

Exercise:

With my dressing done, I got out the door for a quick run. It was painful as I was way too overstuffed from breakfast! It did feel great to get out though in the cold!

Knitting:

I finished a green vest for next Christmas season (and I wore it tonight). I also did a green headband with the leftover yarn so that’s two skeins off my stash list.

I then started a cowl for the holiday market next year when I was at Brenda’s. I’ve used up two skeins on that so far so I’ll be able to take four skeins off the list:)

Movies:

I got a change to take in Christmas Kiss this afternoon and this evening I am enjoying The 12 Men of Christmas. I have to watch this as we watched Die Hard 1 & 2 at Brenda’s and I need something sweet and happy before I try to sleep🤣

Eating:

I spent the evening at Brenda’s knitting and watching movies. I enjoyed the quiet time and the dinner was amazing!!!! It takes forever to make and it only took twenty minutes to eat and clean up🤣

Gifts:

I ended up getting two tea pots, two boxes of tea and four tea mugs. Does everyone think I do nothing but drink tea? I’m going to have to go through and cull my mug collection so I can fit these new ones into the cupboard.

Well I’m off to bed as I’m getting up super early for a flight to visit my parents in the morning. I’m not sure what the WiFi situation is down there so you will either hear from me continuously for the next week or not at all. Let’s hope for the former!

Have fun and Merry Christmas everyone!

AJ

Happy Christmas Eve

It’s been a lovely day:)

Exercise:

I went out this morning for a run, but it didn’t go all that well as I was super hungry. Running after not eating for 15 hours wasn’t very successful.

I got out again this evening for a much longer run! This one was much more successful and finished off my 9km Squad Runner mission.

Home:

I spent the morning cleaning and tidying my place. I gave myself three hours to get as much cleaning done as possible. I love having a clean house, but so don’t love cleaning!

Baking/Cooking:

I spent this afternoon cooking and baking. I started to make the dressing for tomorrow when I realized the ground pork I had wasn’t gluten free so then I had to go looking for more. I tried two stores before I found ground pork, and I never found any more non dairy eggnog:(. There went being organized and prepared:(

I am still waiting for the pork to thaw so I got the apple crumble done for tomorrow night’s dinner. I also got the maple nut scones prepared for morning. They definitely aren’t the eggnog snickerdoodle doughnuts I wanted to make, but they will hopefully be good.

Knitting:

I have spent the rest of the time knitting my green vest. I’m hoping it’s ready for tomorrow but we’ll see. I really wanted to get a white tree put on it, but that is definitely not happening before 8am tomorrow morning.

Movies:

I have definitely been hitting the Christmas movies hard today. I have watched the original Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas in Connecticut, A Very Merry Mixup, The Christmas Ornament and I am now watching Hitched For the Holidays. This is a new one for me and I am enjoying it. The lead male is gorgeous, but human. Hopefully it ends as cutely as it’s been going along!

Merry Christmas to all!

Dark and Rainy Must Be My Thing

I seem to do everything in the dark and the rain lately! I can’t wait for that extra minute of daylight to start on Saturday!

Teaching:

I can’t say that we accomplished much today, other than we did get the card made for our parent present. Once again, I was impressed. We gave examples and talked about what was easier and what would be the harder option.

This is one little guy who is always super creative and artistic and he put his own spin on it:)

We also learned about Christmas in Japan. It was our most successful learning yet as it had the simplest video, but the children seemed to pick up more. It was neat to learn that Christmas is completely non-religious there. They decorate with trees, lights and Santa’s. They celebrate in Christmas Eve and actually go to work on Christmas Day! Every family has their own story of how Santa gets into the house and it is often a romantic night for couples, like Valentines Day.

I just had to leap across the classroom to stop the video before they showed the single people partying.

This afternoon was what my students have been waiting for all week! We decorated gingerbread men! It was absolute chaos as there were five classes in the gym doing this at the same time and half of my parent volunteers didn’t show up:(. We all survived and the children still seemed to have a good time:)

Exercise:

I once again came home as quickly as possible to try and get to run in daylight, but it didn’t happen. I ran about 6.7km and had to walk the last few hundred feet as the sidewalk was teeming with people going to the CP Holiday Train. I was supposed to go with friends but it was pouring so we decided not to.

Knitting:

Still working on the green vest. At least it makes progress quickly because of the bulky yarn!

Reading:

I finished Flare Up by Shannon Stacey late last night. It is the latest book in her series Boston Fire.

I loved this book as much as the rest in the series! Grant Cutter and Wren Everett dated and got quite serious before she disappeared into thin air. When Grant rescues her, they have no choice but to deal with their emotions.

I loved how the characters and situations were so real and yet there was no drama for the sake of drama. When Wren is scared, she talks:) When Grant is worried, he talks to friends. Wow these characters actually communicate!!!

I also loved the background cast of all the other characters and how strong a role they played in the book. Friends play a role in our lives daily whether we see them or not so I love that that was reflected in this book.

The pacing of the book is great as the action obviously takes place over a bit of time and yet the reader doesn’t have to read about every go hum day or get whiplash from insta-love. It was actually really interesting to read a book where the characters were dealing with that weird situation of dating someone you’ve already dated.

Finally, the ending was lovely, though I wish it hadn’t come!

Tea:

I have been worried lately that my advent calendar from Twinings was just going to repeat after Day 15, but today I had another new tea. It’s called Pure Rooibus Red Tea. I found that it got strong very quickly, but that it also had a slight green tea flavor to me. It is definitely a Tea I would have again.

Product Review:

Last night when I was supposed to be buying a hamburger patty, I bought a new brand of egggnog instead: Earth’s Own So Fresh Almond Nog. This may just beat So Delicious Coconut Nog as my new favourite eggnog as it has a stronger flavor:) Yum!!!

Movies:

I also watched A Very Very Valentine tonight. I guess I really should be watching Christmas movies, but this was the next one I had taped. It was a cute movie, but I think my favourite part was identifying all the places I know. I’ve had tea at that bakery! I’ve ran that part of the sea wall! Maybe I am just too easily entertained🤣

Blogmas:

When I was a child the only Christmas Eve tradition I remember is that we got to rent a movie and have pizza on this night. This was the only time all year that these two events occurred so it was a big deal!!! Nowadays I don’t really have any Christmas Eve traditions. I admit my mom and I have spent many Christmas eves finishing last minute crafty gifts, but these days I’m usually just sitting quietly at home reading. I hope you all have more exciting Christmas Eve plans than I do!

Well I’m off to bed early because I can😜

Have fun!

AJ

A Second Quiet Day

A second quiet day in December…how did I get so lucky?!

Exercise:

I headed out for my usual Sunday morning run, but it turned into a walk around the river as I couldn’t breathe through my nose and my running partner’s back was bothering him. It was actually really nice to just walk and catch up and amazingly it stayed dry!

I did get out for a run late this afternoon. It was just the half hour that was necessary for my Squad Runner mission for Monday, but it felt good. Again, I got lucky and it didn’t rain!

Reading:

I guess I have read a lot today as I have finished two books! 🤣

The first is Patience for Christmas by Grace Burrowes.

This tells of Patience Friendly who writes an advice column for Douglas MacHugh’s publishing house in order to make ends meet. MacHugh has asked Patience to write extra columns for Christmas in a literary match-up against rival advice columnist Professor Pennypacker.

I loved this book! It starts with a scene featuring the Wyndham ladies before they were married so I have to assume this book was meant to be from before the Wyndham series. The inclusion of these beloved characters only improved the book more.

By chapter two I was laughing. This book contains humor, warmth and intrigue- a perfect mix in fact!

I also liked how the traditional roles were slightly altered and Patience was represented as a woman with fabulous business acumen and MacHugh was a strong enough man to allow that and even to encourage it.

This book is a lovely, quick read for the holidays!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

My second book of the day was Wrong Bed, Right Roommate by Rebecca Brooks.

This is the story of very organized Jessie Santana and very laissez-faire Shawn Lassiter. She is in need of a roommate for the summer, but doesn’t really want that roommate to be her best friend’s older brother.

This book had excellent pacing. The reader is never bored or just wading through parts. It is realistically timed and yet the reader doesn’t have to read each and every ho hum day.

The characters are very well developed and are multi-dimensional. In fact the characters are so well written that the male lead drove me crazy with his attitude towards everything throughout the book!

The book is very steamy and hot, but also had its sweet moments. I love that it ends on a sweet moment and the reader is left knowing what happened with the couple, though I do hope we get an update when it’s the friend’s turn to find her HEA.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Knitting:

I took a break from reading to do a little knitting. I had two skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky in a green and have found a pattern that claims I can make a vest out of that. Here’s hoping!

Movies:

I watched Stop the Wedding tonight and quite enjoyed it. The characters are sweet and the premise was crazy enough to keep me entertained:)

Well I need sleep as I can only imagine how crazy my students are going to be tomorrow morning!

Have fun!

AJ
