Cooler

Well it rained for about thirty seconds last night:( It’s looked like it could rain most of the day so let’s hope it does tonight!

I started the day with my usual 3km run to the park and back. I know it’s not long, but mentally it gets me out the door. Today I decided that I should see how fast I could go. I was about a minute and a half faster than my usual time, but I know I can do it even faster! I may make this a weekly challenge as I think it would be a good indicator of my running improvement.

I came home and immediately did the NourishMoveLove workout which was a quick abs workout. I had every intention of doing the workout twice, but then I got distracted.

Around the house I got my towels changed and washed. Knitty Natty calls it Fresh Towels Friday and I liked that. I see she has a YouTube episode about a cleaning schedule so I may watch that as I’m always looking for pointers. I also got my Christmas lights taken out of the window and put away and the recycling taken out. I’m going to call that a success for doing at least one thing around the house so far. Is two days in a row long enough to call the plan a success??

I packed up my sewing machine and took it over to the local sewing store as they have an agreement with a guy who will pick it up and service it. I have been trying to do this since Spring as my machine won’t go into zigzag but my timing is always off. Today I decided just to take it and it can wait over there as it’s not like I can use it anyways. Of course, now all I want to do is sew!!!!

After a quick ice cream stop

I have learned to just stop and eat an ice cream and not bring a container of it into my house!

I spent most of the day knitting and actually accomplished a pair of socks! I had gotten my latest Knitting Expat Tokyo sock pattern on the fourth but couldn’t start them until today. They just seemed to go very fast, even faster than normal. I really love Knitting Expat sock patterns and would recommend them to anyone and everyone. These socks were done in some leftover Sweet Georgia tough Love Sock yarn in beige. It’s a beautiful yarn, but I still have some leftover. Sometimes I wish for bigger feet so I wouldn’t have leftovers!

Sorry for the bad photo- it’s dark here.

And since I promised, here is my most recently finished sweater- the Rock It Tee by Tanis Fibre Arts.

I had been a little worried when I saw the yarn caked up because it was extremely bright, but it’s actually not even as bright as it looks in the picture. The yarn is a merino fingering and a silk mohair that are died identically. You simply alternate between the two. I don’t know why this sweater took me so long as it was very simple. I am glad I did it though!

This evening I did my yoga and rolling. I definitely noticed this morning the fact that I hadn’t done yoga and rolling last night. I guess this is one habit I’ll have to try my best to keep up. I actually ended up with my yoga and rolling being almost as long as my run🤣

Well I’m off to bed as I have an early run in the morning.

Have fun!

Poor Puppy

I am over house sitting and dog sitting for my brother and his family while they are away. He is not a happy camper as he doesn’t like his people being away.

This morning I slept in a bit. I tried out my brother’s exercise room – really just a bedroom with the soft mats put down. I did a Nourish Move Love workout and boy was I sweaty! I tried to do yoga upstairs with Banks, but he was all over me. I ended up heading home to do my yoga and then take a shower.

I got back and started my new test knit- a tee! I finished my socks last night.

These are the Dubai socks by Knitting Expat. I have been participating in her around the world in 8 socks Kal and have been loving it. I find her patterns really well written and they turn out beautifully! These socks are done in Area51 Fibres Sturdy Alien sock yarn in the Claire colourway. I feel like the blue is actually more green than it looks in the picture. I wish I had made the sock one size larger because the cables make them fit smaller.

In the afternoon my running buddy Sarah picked me up and we went for sushi. She was willing to go to the next city over so I could have sushi rolls. This one restaurant does gluten free sushi and I love when I can have something other than just sashimi.

Sarah and Brenda came back to enjoy the pool, but we just ended up visiting in the backyard. It was a lovely afternoon.

This evening I have spent my time watching the Knitty Natty podcast on the tv and working on my test knit for UandIKnit.

Well I need to go drag the poor pup around the block.

Have fun!

My First

Today was a much calmer, more organized day which I appreciated!

Exercise:

I picked up Dennis and we headed out to a local dyke for a run. It wasn’t a great run as my heart rate was high way too soon. This is something I’ve been noticing since having Covid. For now I’m assuming it’s just part of the recovery process as everything I read says that even a mild case takes 3-6 months to get over. I had in my mind that I wanted to get 8km in today as that is what we ran on Sunday. Imagine my surprise when I surpassed that and got 9km in! Yay, I may make it to South Dakota after all:)

I stopped at the gluten free bakery on the way to coffee and Dennis and I split the cherry bar. It wasn’t that good. I also tried their small sausage roll for lunch and a strawberry turnover (good thing I ran long and did a workout) and haven’t been super excited about any of them. I have one scone left to try, but I think the hit may have been the fact they had gluten free and dairy free puff pastry. Now I just have to decide what I want to make!!! No I don’t normally eat like this, but when I try a new place I like to try a variety of goods so I know what I need to return for:)

This afternoon I also did a FitOn workout, but it’s very painful right now. My data is so slow that it takes over an hour to do a 25 minute workout. I add in my own moves for the buffering times, but at 54 minutes I was done. I don’t like how this app won’t let you download a workout unless you pay:(

House:

I managed to get all my new clothes into my app, got a load of laundry done, got my exercise journal up to date and that’s it. Not as good as I thought, though I did scrub the tub while I was in the shower:)

Crafts:

I took Kathy’s advice and did fifteen minutes of cross stitch at lunchtime. That was the length of the Crazy sock lady podcast I was watching, so it seemed perfect. Even with spending some of the time looking for my needle as I didn’t want to find it with my foot, I got more done than I was expecting:)

I also did two swatches today for the Bentley cardigan again. I tried a 2.75 and a 3mm needle and though I’m still a little big with the 3mm, I’m going with that size because I like the fabric better. I will just need to measure regularly and stop the raglan increases a little earlier than the 66th row.

I have casted on and done 14 rows and hopefully this time will be more successful!

I also promised you my socks.

These are the London socks by Knitting Expat. They are done in Cascade Strawberries and Cream. I meant to do the pattern all the way around the leg, but forgot when I got to that point until I was on the third row and I just didn’t feel like ripping back. I am fine with the one sided pattern only. The pattern was easy to follow and quick to knit. These are actually my very first toe up socks and I really liked doing them that way! I will definitely do this technique again, though I still have many other techniques to try as well:)

So my question for all you knitters out there is can you recommend a one skein (400 yard) shawl pattern that is not too Lacey. Thank you.

Have fun!
