My Weekend

Saturday was tough, but today was much better.

On Saturday I felt like the world was against me, but it was all just little annoying things.

I started the day with a very short run as I didn’t want to aggravate my hip before my Sunday long run.

I then had to play around with the tire inflator until it would work. I drove to the tire shop, worried about how fast it would deflate, but I made it. The seal was broken, so it turned out to be a pretty cheap fix, though I did get told I need four new tires before winter. I’m hoping for a new car instead.

I stopped on the way home to deal with the fact that Chapters had sent me yet another copy of the book I had ordered. I wonder how many they are going to send me?!?!

When I got home, I was settling in for an afternoon of cross stitch when my tea toppled and spilled all over the cross stitch I have been working on all year. I put it into water quickly and hope that it is not tea stained.

Things settled down for a while, until I decided that I should do my weights. I was just getting into the groove of my weights workout when I managed to spill a full water bottle all over my spare bedroom and then my weight rack fell over. The guy downstairs came up to check on me cause it made that much noise!

At this point I decided to crawl into bed and read my book!

Sunday:

Today started with a nice ten kilometer run with Sarah and Dennis. It was much slower than I would normally go, but was still good to get out.

After coffee, I went grocery shopping and got food for the week. I went on to my third salad recipe from Love and Lemons called brussel sprout salad. It was very easy to make. I used my mandolin to cut the brussel sprouts and managed not to hurt myself this time. I really love the OXO glove I bought for using my mandolin, grater and rasper!

I cooked up a roast beef for the week and did some baking, but you’ll have to wait until the last Saturday to hear about that.

Between bouts of knitting, I face timed with the Bookclub and talked on the phone with a friend.

At this point I think I’m going to crawl into bed with my knitting so that the weekend will end on a high point.

Have fun!

Still Murky

There is no more clarity at work today than there was yesterday:(

Teaching:

I had another very unproductive day;(. I managed to change where my calendar was, sort out some books on kindness, calmness and safety as that is the catch phrase here right now and start to cut out math manipulatives. Nothing all that interesting and I really wish I knew more. The two days I was to get to prepare for students is pretty useless when I have no clue what grade or how many students I will have. I will end up looking bad in front of the parents when I am unprepared on Monday:(

The most interesting thing was that I listened to music on my walk to and from school today as I am responsible for studying country songs that feature other artists for trivia. If anyone knows any, please let me know.

House:

I got out of school at my scheduled time of 3:45 and came home to get my bathroom cleaned as that was my job for today. So far I have been able to stick to the schedule, which is good as I’ve decided that anything I don’t get done, I have to do on Saturdays.

Cooking:

I have been having broccoli salad for lunches this week. This is my second salad of this List at Love and Lemons that I am making my way through. Her recipe does not call for bacon, but I did put some in. The recipe cost me about $19 to make and has given me 5 one cup servings for the week. It still seems expensive to me. I do like the addition of the Smokey nuts to it though.

Exercise:

I did just straight weights tonight and followed Dennis’ plan- three sets of ten with increasing weight. I did: shoulder press, crunches, squats, front raises, reverse crunches, overhead tricep extension, plié squats, heel drops, lateral raises, side to side heel touches, curtsy lunges, bent over rows, bicycle crunches, deadlifts, upright rows, scissor legs, hip raises, bicep curls, dead bugs, side shuffle, pullovers, toe touches, hamstring curls, chest press, plank and traveling plié squats.

I also stretched and rolled. My hip bugged me a bit all day, but after rolling it seems to feel better. I am thinking I had better roll daily for a bit.

Well that is my non-exciting day.

Have fun!

The Weekend

It has been a nice weekend, though I do wish I had had more plans.

Knitting:

I learned that it is probably a good thing that I do not have cable at home as I spent 12 hours on Saturday watching Hallmark movies and knitting.

I did accomplish something though as I finished my sweater! The Weekender is done and it may actually become a favourite.

The pattern is by Andrea Mowry and is very well written. The only change I would make now is to do a different cast off on the neckline and I did a different cast off on the sleeves. The neckline cast off doesn’t stretch at all and I have the feeling it is going to break:(

The yarn I used is Arranmore Light by The Fibre Co. This was a kit through Fibre Co and I have to say I absolutely love this yarn. It has a beautiful depth of colour.

I’m sorry but all you’re getting is one bad photo.

I like that it is not tight, but it also doesn’t have 10″ of ease as I would drown in that much ease.

Exercise:

Today I met up with Sarah for a run while Dennis walked with James. We managed a 5.18km run around the dyke at an okay pace. I always have to remind myself that not every run has to be fast. I was not happy to wake up with a sore right hip and a sore left knee. Thankfully neither really bothered me on the run.

I also did a NourishMoveLove workout called a 20 Minute Full Body HIIT workout. I did change a few moves so that I didn’t remain in a squat, but nothing really bothered my lower half.

I decided to also do a ten minute full body stretch video and added on another ten minutes of stretching and about 15 minutes of rolling. Hopefully this will all help with the knee and hip.

Cooking:

Today I made the broccoli salad which is the second salad from Love and Lemons. I’ll tell you all about it when I actually have it for a meal.

I have spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what to knit with 450 meters of a red cotton. I had planned to do Sense of Summer too but when I started knitting I realized it wasn’t very well written and I didn’t want to tackle it. If anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it.

Have fun!

Stretching My Skills with Sally and an Asian Slaw

My weekends are not super exciting, but I kind of like life like that!

Exercise:

My hip has been really bugging me since Friday so I have spent lots of time rolling and stretching this weekend. Saturday I fit in an upper body weights workout and on Sunday I had a run with Sarah and Dennis and got in 8.26km. I’m not really sure how to fix this hip if the stretching, rolling and more rest than usual, doesn’t, so let’s hope it does!

Knitting:

I have been plugging away on my Weekender sweater and have gotten to the shoulder shaping. I’m leaving that for tomorrow when I’m fresh though. I have come to accept that the boxy style probably isn’t the best for me and so this will be a comfy, cosy, home sweater most likely. I love the colour enough to enjoy it.

Reading:

I decided that at night I would read real books so that I wouldn’t be looking at a screen and it would also get me through the pile of books that have accumulated in my house. Well, I started The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber on Friday night and then spent lots of Saturday finishing it. I found the second book in the trilogy on the library app and so have spent a lot of Sunday reading it.🤣. If you like a sweet book about women’s relationships this would be a good trilogy for you.

Baking:

Last year I had done some of the Sally’s Baking Challenges and this year, Abbey and Kathy and I decided to all do them. I’m sorry I was supposed to post about this yesterday.

This month the challenge was breakfast pastries which to Sally, means danishes. I made mine up on Thursday when I had an unexpected day at home.

For this recipe I only had to use gluten free flour and Earth Balance vegan butter to make it safe for me. When I made up the dough it looked dreadful as it was more batter than dough. However, after its first time out in the fridge, it behaved quite well. The danishes were pretty easy to make, however, my yeast was old so they didn’t rise much, which allowed the filling to escape and went everywhere.

I tried one lemon and one raspberry and gave all the rest away. The feedback was that the raspberry was better than the lemon and that they were quite heavy and rich.

I may try them again with new yeast and see how it goes.

Cooking:

Yesterday I made up my chore schedule so I can get back to having a clean and tidy house. I have been spectacularly bad at this all summer. Well, sunday is grocery shopping and meal prep. I had decided while at my parents that I wanted to work my way through this salad site I had found. I am actually following through and made the first salad today.

It is an Asian Summer Slaw from Love and Lemons. I picked up the ingredients this morning at the grocery store and it cost about $20 for the ingredients I needed. I have to admit I cheated and got a bag of coleslaw mix as I didn’t want to have cabbage hanging around all week. The recipe went together quite quickly and was super yummy! I think I will make this again, actually I’ll have to as I now have a large container of miso paste.

I added chicken on top of mine and cut up the peaches into the salad so it could just be ready to eat all week.

I will warn you that if you don’t like cilantro- this is not the recipe for you. However, I loved that it used a large amount of the cilantro bunch I bought and all of the basil! It drives me crazy when I have bits of these leftover!

Home:

I have been quite productive for a change. I got plants bought and put into the containers on my deck. Now I should have some nice fall colour:)

I got a schedule of chores made up and posted on the fridge. I have chosen one job to do each week so that hopefully my house will stay clean.

I got my shredder set up so that I can deal with the mail immediately. I also got through all the paper on my counter and dealt with it. Wow I have so much more counter space!

I finally got my medical claim done. Now I just have to wait and see if they send me money.

Well that’s it for me. Oh and I’m trying a new type of title to see if I can find things in my blog better.

Have fun!
