Fake Friday

Well it is kind of my Friday today as I have no kids tomorrow, but I do have to suffer through all day meetings.

Teaching:

Today we did an opinion response about Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson. I love this book because it highlights how one person’s good deed can spread to everyone.

We also did some more work on time which the children really seem to be getting well.

And this afternoon we started a directed drawing project based on Van Gogh’s Wheatfield with Crows which is our art for Saskatchewan which has a lot of wheat fields. We thought it would be one day, but we’ll have to finish it next week.

We had a meeting at lunch about the three classroom moves that are supposed to happen. Two of them I completely get, but moving the music room to the portable, I don’t get! We have to go outside to get there through the rain we have continuously and it is going to take up instructional time to get the kids dressed and undressed for going outside:(. I guess my biggest complaint is that there is never any discussion and it doesn’t feel like any comments we make, make any difference:(

If only everyone had to agree with me!๐Ÿคฃ

I ran out of work quickly to get to my doctor’s appointment. So annoying that he only gave me six months of my pills- it’s a pain to go there! The good news is that I have perfect blood pressure-120/60. I guess all that running is good for something!

Exercise:

Unfortunately no running happened today. I ended up having another unplanned nap and just didn’t have a run in me, so I went for a walk instead. Hopefully a one hour walk is equal to a run:)

Baking:

I had bought some Sweet Loren’s cookies down the states last weekend as I had read a blog raving about them. I made them up tonight so that I can take them to work tomorrow. They are pre-shaped and took about 17 minutes to cook. I tried one cookie and it was chewy and too sweet while having too little taste. I can’t say that I will be buying them again, though I admit I always think homemade is better!

Eating:

I had a good eating day! Though I am starting to wonder if I’m the only person who eats pretty well the same thing everyday?

Breakfast- hard boiled egg

Recess: yogurt

Lunch: 2 kid pancakes with 1 mini sausage

Snack: cinnamon raisin scone

Dinner: 1 tilapia filet, cherry tomatoes with hummus, pepper with salsa, cucumbers with fake cream cheese, 1 cookie

I would like to make it so that lunch was my bigger meal though!

Well, I’m going to go suffer through more of the book I am reading right now, though I really need to get back to knitting!

Have fun!

A Rainy Day

It’s been raining cats and dogs all day, but it ended wonderfully:)

Exercise:

My workout session with Lyndsay was cancelled this morning due to a lack of childcare for her son so I went out and hit the pavement. I ran up the hill I live at the bottom of and did it in eleven and a half minutes. I think I can be faster, but I’ll keep working at it:). I realized that I was going to be home by the twenty minute marker and I really do try to keep my runs at thirty minutes so I’m the way down the hill I turned at every other lamp post and ran up to the previous lamp post. It’s crazy- I felt great doing this! I had much better form and was going much faster than my first time up the hill. It ended up adding six extra short hill repeats to my run and got me much closer to thirty minutes, though not quite there. I’ll have to add one more next time.

I walked to work and it started pouring on me halfway up the hill:( I, of course, was totally unprepared for rain, so wasn’t too happy.  My parents kindly gave me a ride down the hill after school as it was still pouring:)

I got my butt off the couch and did a workout this evening. It was eight exercises- mountain climbers, froggers, plank shoulder taps, squat jumps, skaters, push ups, plank jacks and twisting mountain climbers. The first round I did each for a minute, second round for forty-five seconds and hits round for thirty seconds. Woah was I sweaty and tired. Maybe I’m getting too used to those twenty second tabatas because the one minute was tough!!

I’m happy with my exercise for the day:) I’ve been asked why I run so much and what the story is behind that and I promise I’ll do a post about that, but another day:)

Teaching:

My students were crazy today๐Ÿ˜ณ. I guess the sugar kicked in and they were rested from Halloween because boy were they crazy! Mid afternoon we took all the grade ones  into the gym and had them play dodgeball to burn off some of their energy. I’m not sure it helped, lol.

My parents arrived back in town (yay!!๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰) and brought me a rug they had purchased for me for my classroom. It’s gorgeous and allows me to have a rug under my desk so that hopefully I’ll be warmer.  I’ll have to remember to take a picture of it when I get to school tomorrow.

I had a meeting at lunch- a CDMC- it’s supposed to be voluntary, but it sure doesn’t feel that way! It feels like a second staff meeting each month:(. It would be fine if it made our staff meetings with quicker, but it doesn’t:(

After school I had my school book club. It is run by the teacher next door to me and is open to all grade 3,4 and 5 students. It’s a great time and so wonderful to see Holstein excited about reading! We actually had more boys than girls this month! We know they probably come for the chips, but they still have to have read the book๐Ÿ˜œ This month we read Thhe Magician’s Nephew which I had already read. It was really interesting to see who liked it and who didn’t! There were definitely some surprises!  We go around and everyone says whether they like it or not and then we open it up for discussion. I’m so glad the other teacher allows me to join in as it is so fun!  I do need to get going on the book for next month though!

Cooking:

I finally got over to the store to get the ingredients for the pumpkin chili recipe. I only needed three things! Kale, black beans and a tomato, however, upon tasting, I should have gotten more things! I chose a recipe that used pumpkin chunks as I didn’t want to purรฉe my gorgeous pumpkin, but maybe I should have ๐Ÿ˜. I definitely think it should be called pumpkin vegetable soup instead and I’m not a huge soup person! Tomorrow I will have it for lunch as is, but then I’m really going to need to doctor it up!!! If you have any suggestions I’d love to hear them!

It doesn’t even look like chili to me:(

Reading:

I got another three chapters of The Time Machine listened to so I only have four left:) I’ll be ticking that off my November list soon:) I am really enjoying it much more than I thought I would:)

I have also started The Cottage on Pumpkin and Vine that Noriko reviewed a few days ago. Her review captured my interest so I’m trying it out. Just sorry I’m not far enough into it yet to give you an honest opinion.

Crafting:

I got two threads done on the rued rug today and I can see getting to the end of the square before long๐Ÿ˜€only five million to go๐Ÿ˜ž

I also worked some more on my convertible handwarmers. The further I get, the more I’m loving the colouring of the yarn. It is the first time I have worked with a Madeline Tosh yarn and boy does it ever feel wonderful!!! I can’t wait to be wearing my New Hampshire Handwarmers:) And it sounds like I may get a lot of use out of them this winter!!๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ซ

Family:

My mom and dad arrived home from their boat today! It was so great to see them as there is NOTHING better than a mommy hug!!!! It feels like it’s been forever since I saw them! They are so good to me though and probably spoil me way too much! They came straight to school with the rug they had found for my classroom (now I just have to talk my mom into accepting an eyransfer for its cost!), but when I got home I saw my mom had slipped some other goodies into my bag:). I got a big bag of oats, which is one of my favourite things to eat in the winter. I got honey from this local place near to where they moor their boat. It’s so cool! I got normal, creamed, blackberry and fireweed honey! There is also a little bottle of tincture in the bag. I’ll have to read up about what that can be used for!  There was also a book my mom read that she wants me to read. It sounds a little odd, but I’ll give it a shot:). Lastly there was a skein of handspun yarn that she found at a weavers guild show in Duncan,BC. It is by Perieinkle Creations. My mom obviously knows me because it’s a wool/ silk blend so it feels amazing and it’s in gorgeous colours. I have 243 yards to play with so I’ll have to come up with a project. It unfortunately doesn’t say what weight it is, so I’ll have to do some investigation. Oh I just can’t wait to try out all this new stuff! It’s like Christmas!!!!

Friends:

It’s one of my closest friend, Emily’s birthday today. I texted her, but can’t do her party because of a family dinner ( though I had already warned her of that). I want to come up with something more interesting to do than coffee to celebrate with her! It’s going to be tough because we used to be a close group of five, but one girl moved away and the other decided she didn’t like getting together in groups anymore, so it’s really just three of us and Anna is pregnant with a toddler so it’s going to take some creativity to come up with something fun to celebrate her birthday that will work for all theee of us and not remind Em that there used to be five of us.

Well, that’s it for my day today. I’m off to snuggle into bed with my book. I love it when I have time to do that!

Have fun!
