My mom came home for a day🎉🎊

I got up this morning knowing I needed to get my 6km run in right away before it got any hotter! It is nice now that I know a 6.3km route in my neighborhood as I didn’t have to plan or measure it really think, just plod. It wasn’t too bad though I really should have still taken some water with me!

Unfortunately that was my only exercise of the day:(

I have a better picture to show you of my sweater that I finished yesterday:)

I normally don’t like to have multiple projects on the go, but I’m going to do a headband out of the tiny bit of yarn I have left over so that I can delete the skein from my stash:). My mom thinks this headband will be good for me as it requires me to read a chart which I normally avoid like the plague. I just like that it is from one of the knitting books that I own so now I have reason to buy more as I obviously use them🤪🤣

I also started an entrelac purple scarf for my friend K that I hope to have finished by the September long weekend when I will see her again. One of my HPKCHC classes asks me to do something scary and entrelac definitely is scary for me!

My mom also helped me pick out the bag I will knit from my newest knitting book. I got given handles so I obviously need to make a bag🤣

Hopefully some of these things will be done soon!

I met up with my mom about 2pm today as she came into town for an appointment. It was so great to get a mom hug- nothing beats it!

We stopped at Michaels so I could grab needles, but they didn’t have them and now it turns out I don’t need them! We also had a quick look through Pier 1. I always live just wandering with my mom- nice to have someone to say, “oo look at that” to!

We ended up going from there to visit my nephew. We didn’t think anyone was home so were sitting in the front yard when lo and behold my nephew opened the door. He was happy to see us as it meant he could go swimming. We spent about an hour sitting around their beautiful backyard! Ugh I should have picked up a new swimsuit right away!!!

It was so cute watching this one play with my nephew! Nephew love!!!!

We ended up going out for dinner with my nephew and sister in law. I always love spending time with her – I am VERY lucky in the SIL department!! We hit Red Robin and I had a lettuce wrapped burger. It was very yummy, but gone before I remembered to take a picture of it?

Last night I watched Love Blossoms. A Hallmark movie about a daughter trying to reinvent the perfume her father created and she uses the help of a botanist to do it. They of course, fall in love. It was entertaining, but definitely not my favorite movie.

I’m not sure where today went! I’m off to watch another movie and get my rug rows done for today.

Have fun!

Lovely Surprise:)

I had a lovely surprise today!

I knew I was running this evening so this morning was just a walk. I got dressed and headed out into the cloudy day, got halfway up the hill and it started to pour; then just as I got to the point where I would turn around it started to get brighter so I kept going. Of course when I stopped to read the sign I’ve been curious about the last few weeks, I hit the wrong button and ended my run so then the second half didn’t even count:(. Can you tell it was a calamity of errors. I was so frozen, I let myself stop for tea at Starbucks on the way home!

I did a quick lunge and squat workout this afternoon. It looked so simple, but I don’t even want to think about how many of each o ended up doing!!!

This evening I got out for a run with Dennis. We did a local park which is all hills. I have actually ran this park both ways and it is within meters of the same both ways with equal amount of hills! You just can’t win! I did better than I thought I would!

About a month ago I had a parent in my classroom send me a recipe for vegan fettuccini Alfredo and today with the rain, I finally had the chance to try it:). The recipe was simple easy and turned out super yummy! Unfortunately I ruined the pasta by cooking it in too small of a pot so I have no good pictures to show you:(. The recipe can be found here:https://lovingitvegan.com/cheesy-garlic-vegan-alfredo-30-minutes/

Ice Cream/ Family:

I got the best phone call after lunch today- from my nephew Gus. I already don’t want to consider the day he doesn’t want to hang out with Auntie AJ! He asked to go for ice cream which is always okay with me😀 I had a quick visit with my adorable fur nephew Banks:)

At first he thought Menchies or Dairy Queen, but thankfully he finally decided on TCBY. It was close to home, but I didn’t have high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised.

There were actually four options I could have which is more than I get at Menchies. One was vegan-almond milk chocolate and then there were three sorbets- strawberry kiwi, orange and mango. I ended up with a rainbow in my cup by trying a bit of each.

I would give TCBY a 3 out of 5 because I really do like finding creamy vegan ice cream and this was definitely sorbet.

Gus went crazy of course and had a much more complex dish. He chose cookie butter and cotton candy frozen yogurt. He said the cotton candy actually tasted like cotton candy. He then loaded up on the toppings which he said there was a good assortment of. He had strawberry pearls, crushed Oreos, cookie dough, crushed Skor, nerds, mini m&ms, and caramel drizzle.

Gus gives this place a 4.2 out of 5, worse than the Sweet Tooth creamery because the frozen yogurt didn’t taste as good as the ice cream.

I spent a bit of time hanging out with him and Banks- always the best part of a day!!!!

I am already halfway through my rug square for the week!!!😀

I have separated the sleeves from the body and have commenced on 13.5″ of stockinette in the round. I predict a lot of Hallmark movies in my future!!

Oh and I just had to show you the cute cup set I got from another teacher. The kid drive her crazy all year so she wasn’t in to keeping a “kitschy” gift from him, but I never taught him and thought it was cute, so I grabbed it!

Well I guess that’s it for me!

Have fun!

Busy Auntie

It was such a busy day. I don’t feel like I’ve sat down until now!

I started with track practice this morning. We had to finish that up early (which I later got in trouble for) and head to a staff meeting where we got told that our principal is being moved and we are getting a new principal next year. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the new principal so I’ll refrain from judgement until I’ve worked with her.

We didn’t do anything too exciting- workout Wednesday, sorting geometric shapes, writing our pen pal letters, and doing the student’s self-reflection on the year. It was interesting to see what they remembered from the year.

I at least got an L boot camp in today as I’m not feeling like I’ve gotten much exercise lately. We did a new style of workout. There were five 4 minute stations where you did three moves. In between we did a minute of cardio- either running, skipping, step ups, jumping jacks or high knees.

The stations: burpees/ half get ups/ plank skiers with a push-up in between

Bench hop overs/ mountain climbers/ torso rotation

Lat pull downs/ wall balls/ squat touch downs

Banded straight arm raises/ banded squat and side leg lift/ power squat with front raise

Reverse squat with hip/bench v sit/ banded side steps

I rushed home to grab my car and went over to pick my nephew Gus up. I was hanging out with him tonight as my brother and sister in law are at the Paul Simon concert. We walked over to watch my students play baseball as many of them are on the same team. It was cute to see them all play, but we only stayed for half an hour as I didn’t want to make a pest of myself.

Gus was starving as all 11 year old boys are so we walked over to Subway and then had Menchies. I avoided the subway, but enjoyed some gf/df mango sorbet.

I love hanging out with Gus! We had a quick game of darts and for the first time ever he beat me!

Have this cutie who won’t leave his lookout!

I finished my book, What You Need, last night.

I had a difficult time getting into this book, but once in, I was hooked. It’s a great read that moves fast! I enjoyed the characters and the family dynamic is interesting. It almost needs a family tree at the beginning of the book! I’m glad I finally read the first one as I’ve already read others in the series.

He’s off to bed and I’m off to watch some chick flicks on my brother’s Netflix:)

Have fun!

Birthday Shopping

I had some quality time with my nephew which always makes my day?

I got up early for another run to finish the 15km mission off, but I have to admit I didn’t do much more than what was required. I ran for about fifteen minutes and it was nice to know that that was all I had to do!

I also got my squat/plank/push-up challenge done tonight after missing yesterday. I did 1 minute plank, 105 squats which I split between plié and regular and 24 push-ups.

I also got a Lyndsay workout done. It was a nice surprise as when I turned to it, I saw it was 20 second/ 10 second tabatas. It almost felt like a holiday:). There seemed to be a lot of arms in it!

Now I’m just waiting to hear if I’m working out in the morning or after school tomorrow.

Wow my class was all there today; that definitely doesn’t happen often! It was a pretty normal day of learning about setting using the story “The Three Little Pigs”, learned about the corners, faces and vertices on 3D objects and then observed our tree in Spring this afternoon. I was really impressed that the children took their time to draw the tree this time and the results were much better!

I spent my lunch hour at the teacher supply store buying art supplies. It was not my favorite way to spend the 40 minutes, though wow I can spend money fast!

After school I picked my nephew up to take him shopping for his birthday present as I hadn’t known what to get him. I wanted to just buy him books, but that wasn’t allowed so we compromised on the next two Squish books and a bow and arrow set. At least he’ll be outside getting some exercise!

I also picked up my niece’s birthday present and something more for my sister in law.

We stopped at Boston Pizza for dinner. If this is what he eats at 11, I’m not going to even try to feed him at 16!!!

He ate the wings and pepper one bacon pizza.

I ate the carrots and celery along with a green pepper, Mushroom, black olive and shrimp pizza on a gf crust and with no dairy.

We were both stuffed!

It just struck me the difference between what he eats and what I eat🤣

I did about an hour on my rug this evening, though as I was doing it, I figured out it takes about five hours to do one square.

Well I need to go find buttons for my Mother’s Day cards tomorrow. My nephew gave me a great idea!

Have fun!

Busy Vacation!

Sure seemed like a busy day for a vacation day, but thankfully it was all good stuff:)

I met up with Brenda today to attend the Fibres West Show held in Cloverdale. We weren’t sure about going, but decided we should as we haven’t been to this show before.

We couldn’t believe that the parking was already almost full when we got there! It was the first day and we were there within the first hour! It cost $8 to get in and I paid for Brenda’s entrance too as she drove. So far I’m at $16. We decided to do a tour of the whole place while taking notes on the program of anything we wanted to go back to. You will be amazed, but I only spent $46 total!!!! So good for me compared to the last knitting show I went to! I ended up buying this:

I bought all from the same place. It was a mother daughter team and they had such cute stuff!

The little bags are for holding circular and double pointed needles so the stitches won’t come off when they’re in transport.

The bigger bad will hold my stitch markers and I decided I needed it because I say that exact thing so often!!!

Here are some of the other neat things I saw.

I would like to have my dad make me a bowl as I love them, but they are so expensive!!!

I took this picture because the colors were just so vibrant!!

The felting booth was amazing, but also so expensive!!!

It didn’t take us as long to go through as we thought! I think that if you were a spinner or weaver this would be a better show for you! I had to work really hard to not come home with the supplies to try one of these hobbies. I’m trying to keep my hobbies limited.

We stopped for coffee on our way home and I used the WiFi to upload some more apps to my phone.

The ride home gave me time to determine a plan for the afternoon. I had wanted to go for a thriftiness adventure with my mom but felt like we didn’t have enough time. So I indulged in a yummy tuna melt

And then laid down for a nap as I didn’t sleep well last night. As I laid there of course I couldn’t sleep, so I just got up for my run.

Squad Runner told me I was running 7km again today. Yesterday when I was nervous about doing this, I had done the four and one intervals that My Kind of Fit had suggested. Today I tried out my new Strava app and it didn’t let me set up intervals so I had to just run the whole 7km straight. My time wasn’t very different, but I sure didn’t feel as strong at the end:(. It was interesting to do the same run two days in a row and to test out the difference between intervals and straight running.

I did like the Strava app as it kept good time and didn’t lose GPS. I’ll try my old running app tomorrow to see if the difference is just my new phone.

After my run, I got cleaned up and headed over to meet up with my nephew. It was hilarious, he was supposed to be hanging out with a neighbor, but told his mom he’d rather hang out with auntie. Squeee makes my heart happy❤️💜💙💚

We met up with my parents for dinner at Mr. Mike’s. My dad had an awesome huge drink!

I didn’t have a lot of choices, but enjoyed a lobster avocado salad.

My nephew indulged in dessert:)

Afterwards it was back to my parent’s place to play pool. We discovered that everyone it my dad was horrible at this game😂

Finally it was time for some video games and then bed! My nephew just redid his bedroom and has the coolest under-bed lighting!

Well my nephew is in bed and I’ll be watching Hallmark movies in my brother’s tv and trying to stay awake later than the nephew😂

Have fun!AJ

Vacation Day 3

Another lovely day, but how could it be otherwise when I can do whatever I want:)

I have to admit my book and bed were very pleasant this morning so it took me a while to get out for my morning run. I did get to it though and was doing quite well until my phone talked to me and I realized it had somehow lost signal again as there was no way I was doing a 4:40km! I continued despite this and got 25 minutes in before I arrived at my parents place for a visit:). It continues my running streak to three days and is better than nothing!

I had a massage this afternoon so didn’t want to do a weight workout as I like to enjoy my nice loose muscles for at least one night, so I went for a walk instead. It was so gorgeous out and there were lots of people out.

You get two pictures from my walk as I just couldn’t decide which I liked better 🤣

It was so great to get hugs from my mom and Dad today and to get caught up with them! I hope I get to see them everyday of my holiday and get to spend some time with my mom before they skedaddle off on their next adventure!

I also spent time with my nephew today. I learned from my sister in law this morning that my nephew was on his own for the first three days this week, so I texted him to find out if he wanted to do something. He came up with go-karting, lol. When I checked the website I determined that I wouldn’t be able to go on the adult course

So I took along his neighbour and friend too so that he could have some company. They seemed to really like it! My nephew was nervous as he had never done this before, but with each of his three races he got more confident. It was great to see him having fun, but let’s not talk about what 24 minutes of racing cost for two boys!!!😳

We proceeded to have lunch afterwards because these boys hadn’t eaten in an hour and were in danger of starving to death. They had subway and I had take out Hot and Sour Seafood Pho

It was very interesting, but I admit I didn’t like it as much as my usual pho. The boys then had Menchies which I bought to keep them quiet while we waited at Costco for gas, unfortunately they had no dairy free yogurt this time so I had to do without. Probably a good thing!

I finished my book, Tangled Up in Tinsel by Candis Terry while waiting for my massage appointment.

It was a good read. This is the third book in this series and I greatly enjoyed it. The family dynamic is interesting and realistic and I was rooting for the couple. I don’t think it’s going to be the last of the series though, or at least I hope not!

I have started my next NetGalley book but I’ll save that until I’m done.

I’ve also made it to chapter five of Treasure Island on Librivox. I hope it doesn’t get too scary for me!

Nicole of The Bookworm Drinketh was talking about watching Hallmark movies and I would love to be doing that, but I’m out of them right now, so I went with the movie version of Wives and Daughters to see if it’s as good as the book. So far it’s staying very close to the books and making a good background for my knitting:)

I’m going back to it now:)

Have fun!

A Little Change in Plans

Today has definitely not gone according to plan!

I had a run this morning at Crystal Falls with my running buddy. It was great to have company and be out on this gorgeous trail. Crystal Falls is a forest trail that leads out to a small waterfall. It is obviously uphill going out as you are following the Coquitlam River. The trail has recently been widened and cleared so it is quite accessible, though there are still streams you have to make your way across. The  log barriers that the mountain bikers use now have trails you can take around them. This trail was a great choice for today as it was several degrees cooler (a nice break from the super hot day).  Of course on this hot day when I wouldn’t mind a refreshing foot bath, I managed to stay completely dry, but on a cold, winter day I always seem to manage to end up in the water🙄.

Unfortunately this run was my only exercise for the day:( An epic fail😫

I was supposed to be making a batch of apple chai scones today but a friend called me up and suggested lunch before the craziness of school starts up again. We met at the John B Pub on Austin avenue in Coquitlam. The waitress was super knowledgeable about allergies and made sensible and clear suggestions of what I could order. I ended up with the celiac stir fry with scallops and prawns. It was absolutely delicious and looked just as lovely with big pieces of veggies and seafood.

My indulgences didn’t end with the lunch however as my nephew and I hit Matteo’s Gelato in Port Coquitlam tonight. This is my absolute favourite ice cream store in the area because out of fifty flavours of Gelato, 38 are gluten free and 18 are dairy free. There are so many options that I feel overwhelmed!  img_8711.jpgI also love how you can have as many flavours as you want in each size. Today I tried five different flavours- coconut, chocolate peanut butter, salted caramel, chocolate covered cherry, and mango. I would have a very difficult time choosing a favourite as they were all amazing!

My friend and I checked out IKEA for back to school items. I went in looking for nothing but came out with magazine holders, an aloe Vera plant and some kitchen scrubbers. At least at IKEA when you go crazy, it’s still cheap:)

I’ve done a little bit of knitting but still have half a sleeve to complete. I am babysitting my nephew tonight so ended up in the pool with him and am now watching the Mayweather/ McGregor fight with my brother’s company. Definitely not what I planned to do tonight! Lol I can’t even knit because they smoke! As well, this cutie keeps getting on my lap and chasing the needles. 😂IMG_8718

Oh well, I suppose it’s days like these that make life interesting!

Have fun!
