Not Sorry

I’ve been told I shouldn’t apologize for my quiet days so I will try not to from now on. In truth, I love having quiet days at home and it is only when I come on here to talk about my day that I feel a little bad that it’s not super exciting to read about. Oh well, I guess you all have the option to not read so I will just continue to have my quiet days and not apologize for them.

I started the day with my usual 3km run. I am hoping this will become a routine that I can keep up even when school goes back in. We shall see. I also immediately did my NourishMoveLove workout for the day. Well really I’m not sure if it was a workout or yoga. It was a 10 minute dynamic warmup. It had yoga moves, but also strength moves. I put it down as yoga since it was so short.

I actually ended up going for a second run this evening with Sarah and Dennis around a local park. We were supposed to do the same run we did on Monday, but it was just too hot to be on the sidewalks in direct sun so we took to the shaded path. We got 5.26km in which was great as my plan called for six today so I am now about 4km ahead of schedule. I like having that little bit of cushion.

This morning I also went and picked up three workout items from a lady in the next city. I love wearing Ivivva, but of course Lululemon discontinued their girls line so now I have to search for it second hand. I don’t know why they discontinued it when it seems to be extremely popular. I was happy to get a new pair of capris, a short sleeve and a long sleeve top. I also got a short walk in on this outing since I was early.

I want to do at least one thing for my house each day, even if it’s a tiny thing. Today I cleaned my bathtub drain. It took no time and I’ve been meaning to do it forever!

Other than a nap, I have spent the day knitting and watching podcasts. I made two more knitted dishcloths that used up five more skeins of the cotton thread. I also finished my Rock It Tee by Tanis Fibre Arts. I will include picture and details tomorrow as I didn’t realize I hadn’t taken any yet and it’s dark now.

I also found myself casting on the everyday tee but have decided that it isn’t the right yarn that I was using so I will be tearing that out.

The best thing just happened a second ago- it started raining! We have had a record number of days without rain and it has been so muggy so this is awesome!!!!

I also finished my current book last night. It is called How To Knit a Love Song by Rachael Herron. I enjoyed having a book that featured knitting that wasn’t a cosy mystery. It was an enjoyable read, though I really didn’t expect the secondary storyline of a stalkerish abusive ex boyfriend. There was one scene where he jumps out of a closet that I really didn’t like, but I liked the rest of it:)

Well, I think that’s it for me.

Have fun!

Wednesday wahoo

I made it through hump day!

Teaching:

Wednesday isn’t least favorite day because I have no prep time and my teaching buddy is off:( I did get a report card written this morning before school. I also realized I could write notes on the board as I go and the kids can’t read handwriting. This will be super handy as I often notice things but then forget them by the time I get to my desk to write them down.

We did McCracken Spelling this morning and for the first time in twenty years of teaching, I got to doing sentences with the kids. My lowest little guy is getting good at three letter words, but struggles after that. He’s better during this activity than during free journal writing. I’m hoping on Monday to sit with him do he’ll get that he has to do the same thing.

I had talked to the kids about having todo two more reading assessments and sight word assessments before I could go back to doing reading groups. I was amazed when kids came over after they were done eating their snack and volunteered to do their sight word assessment. What an amazing group!

We did tag in gym as the kids requested it. We then did our addition drill and an introduction to subtraction.

I had planned to go outside and do hands on subtraction practice, but we ran out of time. I love how one of the little boys came up and suggested exactly what I planned to do. We’ll hopefully have time tomorrow.

This afternoon I managed to finish the reading assessments and then we worked on our Fin’s Friends booklet. It’s not going great, but I think I’ve come up with a better plan for next week.

We ended the day with entrees since we weren’t allowed to go outside because of a cougar in the area. 🙄

I have to admit I left right after school as I just wanted to be home!

Exercise:

I made myself at least do a ten minute NourishMoveLove HIIT workout. I used heavier weights so hopefully that counts for something!

Knitting:

I got home to happy mail!

This is a cotton, linen, nettle and silk blend from Small Bird Workshop. I am hoping I can make a summer top out of it. I ordered the heathered soft rose pink just to make my mom happy. I dislike the colour myself, but she always laments that I don’t wear much pink. (I really do, but she doesn’t see it cause it’s my running gear)

I spent this evening working on my newest sock for the SPY21 KAL. It took me three tries but it knit up pretty fast once I got going. Maybe I’ll have a sock to show you soon!

Well that’s it for me.

Have fun!

Weekend Wrap Up

I can’t believe it’s Sunday again already! I have to survive a five day week this week:(

Exercise:

I ended up running on Saturday morning with Dennis as he had an appt on Friday evening. I was tired of running around my house so we went out to the dyke to run. It was super bright and sunny on the way out, but then the big black cloud moved in on the way back.

We got 6.6km in which is better than nothing.

I worked out yesterday afternoon and did another NourishMoveLove workout- 20 minute resistance band workout- legs, cardio and core. I definitely was feeling that workout on my run this morning.

Sarah and I did another ten kilometers this morning. It seemed super slow though we picked up the speed on the way back. I’m not sure how to approach this with Sarah, but really feel we could be running faster at the start as we drop almost a minute off our time. I’d rather run a little faster on the way out and a little slower on the way back and be more even!

We got lucky though and it was a gorgeous morning for a run!

I did the seven hip and low back stretches for the fourth time this week. Hopefully it helps:)

Shopping:

I met up with another teacher from work at Chapters yesterday so we could choose a few books for the kids Bookclub this year. We have had kids asking about it so we are going to try and do the club over zoom once a month. It will be nice to have a little bit of normalcy! We also enjoyed a lovely tea afterwards:)

House:

I have been very productive this weekend for little things. I got the curtains fixed, my hydration bladder fixed, all laundry done and put away and my plants watered.

Knitting:

I have mainly been working on socks for a lady at trivia. I have one sock done and am just considering if I could get the other done by Tuesday night. I somehow don’t think so:(

Well that’s it for my weekend, well except for my reading but I’m not done my book yet.

Have fun!

AJ

Monday Again?

How did Monday get here again so quickly?

Teaching:

We had calendar and music this morning. We read The Party by Barbara Reid- the pictures are so cool- and discussed when our birthdays were. I was impressed that there was only one little girl who truly had no idea where her birthday was.

We tackled a journal entry where students could write about anything, but if they were stuck the prompt was, I can…

Last year I heard repeatedly how low this one little girl was, but today I was super impressed with her writing. She wrote, “ I picked apples at the farm and did a maze with my family. I had fun, so much fun”. That impressed me for a six year old!

This afternoon we watched a YouTube reading of Terry Fox and Me. I am so glad someone finally wrote a book about Terry Fox that is appropriate for Primary. We talked about prosthetics and who the kids would be running for. All but one girl got them done so I’ll take a picture when I get them posted tomorrow.

At the end of the day we went outside to play. It isn’t so nice now that my teaching buddy and I aren’t together:(. One little girl had to go for EAL testing during this time and both she and her mom were super upset as they thought she was going to miss outside play every time. Try explaining this when there is a language barrier. It was a great game of charades, I suppose.

House:

Last week I didn’t get any of my chores done and I was worried that my new chore schedule would collapse, but today I came home and got my floors done quick before I had dinner.

Exercise:

I did the 35 minute Full Body Strength and HIIT workout from NourishMoveLove. It was definitely a challenge and I was dripping sweat by the end so I will call it a success.

Well I’m going to enjoy my book as tomorrow is a busy day!

Have fun!

AJ

Stretching Saturday

I can’t believe how lazy I have been!

Reading:

I finished my latest book, Take a Hint Dani Brown by Thalia Hibbert. I find her books start off oddly, but end wonderful sweetly. I enjoyed the book and if you’re looking for fluff it’s a great option.

Shopping:

I grabbed milk and later in the day I picked up my new trails and road running shoes. It was an expensive day!

Family:

I got a text from my nephew asking me to see his name on his jersey so I did go over and pick it up.

Knitting:

I am trying to get a toque done for a friend’s birthday by Thursday so I started today. I got it almost completely done when I realized it was going to be big and I was going to run out of yarn, so I have ripped it out and will start again.

Exercise:

Thought about running because I didn’t hurt, but decided a day of rest wasn’t a bad thing. I did do a ten minute cardio and core workout from a NourishMoveLove and started her HIIT AMRAP workout, but didn’t get to finish it.

Have ten weeks today until my birthday and would like to feel more in shape by then so I’d better pull up my socks with my eating and exercise!

Baking:

Last year I had done some of the Sally’s Baking Challenges and this year, Abbey and Kathy and I decided to all do them.

This month the challenge was a cinnamon swirl quick bread. I actually made it earlier in the month and found it quite easy to make. I used Bob’s Redmill all purpose gluten free flour, Earth’s Own Unsweetened vanilla oat milk and Earth Balance vegan buttery spread. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly.

I would not put the topping of cinnamon sugar on as thickly as they call for in the recipe again as I found it just brushed off, and I may add raisins if I make it again, but otherwise I was happy with the recipe.

I took it to work to share with friends and two of them loved it, but unfortunately I dropped it on the floor before anyone else got to enjoy it:(

Well I think that’s my day in a nutshell.

Have fun!

AJ

Productive

It was quite a productive day.

Exercise:

My colleague from work was supposed to run with me this morning, but I woke up to a text saying it was raining too hard. To be fair, it was running so hard that I drove to work and I was a little worried about what my hip would do, so it’s probably a good thing. Though I am really starting to worry about my mileage:(

This evening I did a NourishMoveLove workout. It was her new 30 minute yoga sculpt. It was a neat workout because it changed quickly and I did mindfully try to keep my pelvis lifted while I was doing it.

Maybe tomorrow I will get out for a little run in the morning as I am kicking myself for not getting one in this morning.

Teaching:

Today was a ProD day and it actually felt quite productive as my teaching buddy is working Fridays this year. We got our Teams set up in case we go virtual (I really don’t think we will be). We also got our TOC book written and reviewed our year plan and made some plans. Not a lot, but things we can’t get done when the kids are there.

The funniest/saddest story I heard today was that a little girl refuses to wear anything but grey leggings each day which she insists her mom or dad warms up with a blow dryer before she puts them on. The sad part is that the parents are actually doing this!!!

Family:

I grabbed Gus after my school day and we went for ice cream. I had the raspberry pistachio, but then they gave me a taste of the new raspberry cheesecake that I had requested. It was amazing!!! I just can’t imagine how I used to eat two scoops though as I was stuffed!

Well I’m going to go crawl into bed and read my book.

Have fun!

AJ

Bonus Day

I probably should have made plans for my bonus day, but I didn’t.

Exercise:

I was very tempted to go for a run this morning, but resisted as Monday’s will probably be my day off right now. I did do NourishMoveLove’s 35 minute booty glute workout. It was good and then I followed it up with stretching. I resisted foam rolling as my RMT said I should give my body a day in between to recover. Fine by me!

House:

My job today were my floors and they got done. I also got some laundry put away as well so my house will be tidier to start the week off.

Knitting:

I have to admit I have spent most of the day knitting and listening to podcasts. I am playing yarn chicken with a basic raglan in sport weight cotton. I am hoping to not run out, but if I do, I’ll do a second colour for sleeves and collar. Fingers crossed I’m small enough to get it all done.

Sorry I don’t have more interesting things for you, but the only other thing I did was have a nap. Trying to build my strength for tomorrow.

Have fun!

AJ

The Weekend

It has been a nice weekend, though I do wish I had had more plans.

Knitting:

I learned that it is probably a good thing that I do not have cable at home as I spent 12 hours on Saturday watching Hallmark movies and knitting.

I did accomplish something though as I finished my sweater! The Weekender is done and it may actually become a favourite.

The pattern is by Andrea Mowry and is very well written. The only change I would make now is to do a different cast off on the neckline and I did a different cast off on the sleeves. The neckline cast off doesn’t stretch at all and I have the feeling it is going to break:(

The yarn I used is Arranmore Light by The Fibre Co. This was a kit through Fibre Co and I have to say I absolutely love this yarn. It has a beautiful depth of colour.

I’m sorry but all you’re getting is one bad photo.

I like that it is not tight, but it also doesn’t have 10″ of ease as I would drown in that much ease.

Exercise:

Today I met up with Sarah for a run while Dennis walked with James. We managed a 5.18km run around the dyke at an okay pace. I always have to remind myself that not every run has to be fast. I was not happy to wake up with a sore right hip and a sore left knee. Thankfully neither really bothered me on the run.

I also did a NourishMoveLove workout called a 20 Minute Full Body HIIT workout. I did change a few moves so that I didn’t remain in a squat, but nothing really bothered my lower half.

I decided to also do a ten minute full body stretch video and added on another ten minutes of stretching and about 15 minutes of rolling. Hopefully this will all help with the knee and hip.

Cooking:

Today I made the broccoli salad which is the second salad from Love and Lemons. I’ll tell you all about it when I actually have it for a meal.

I have spent the rest of the day trying to figure out what to knit with 450 meters of a red cotton. I had planned to do Sense of Summer too but when I started knitting I realized it wasn’t very well written and I didn’t want to tackle it. If anyone has a suggestion, I would love to hear it.

Have fun!

Just a Nice Day

It was just a lovely day all around.

Reading:

I stayed in bed this morning to finish my book. The Light Over London by Julia Kelly.

If you like historical fiction and double timelines you’ll like this book. I would actually recommend it to most people as it was a great read! It captured my attention quickly and kept it. It is also quite short at 290 pages. Both the 1940s storyline and the present day storyline were interesting and well- developed. I also liked that it was based on the gunner girls in the Second World War.

Baking:

I did some baking today, but you’ll have to come back on Saturday to hear about it.

Family:

I took my nephew for lunch today. We went to White Spot which is no longer in the reasonably priced category! $50 for lunch for two and there was no alcohol involved! I had a teriyaki bowl with no rice, but extra veggies.

Gus had a double double burger that was there one minute and gone the next. I told him he must have grown again as I felt even smaller beside him.

We of course went for ice cream for dessert.

Exercise:

After dropping Gus off and having a nap, I met up with Sarah for a run at the river. It was hot and we were slow, but it’s another 4km done. I do so enjoy having company on runs!

I also did the NourishMoveLove 15 minute Power Yoga routine. I started doing some simple weights before this, but then thought that since I don’t know what’s called for tomorrow, I should just do the yoga. It felt good and I think my knee actually came closer to my elbow, even after just these few sessions.

Shopping:

I had ordered two books and one showed up the other day. I live chatted and thought I had arranged to have the other book shipped again, but then today I got an email telling me that they were shipping me the book I already had! I spent some time on the phone getting this sorted out and hopefully my second book will show up soon so I can show them off.

Well I’m going to do a bit of Scrabble and then head to bed with a book to finish up this nice day:)

Have fun!

AJ

I Can’t Believe It!

I must be right out to lunch that I forgot to write the last two nights!

Exercise:

Yesterday I went with Dennis back out to the dykes for 7.26km. I had said I wanted to do as many dyke runs as possible before school starts as i won’t be able to once I’m working. It was a perfect day for a run- cool at the start, quiet and beautiful!

I also got the NourishMoveLove 30 Minute Power Barre workout done. It hurt while I was doing it, so I’m taking that as a good sign. I signed up for her email and so am just following the weekly schedule she sends.

Knitting:

I started the Weekender for the third time yesterday. I kept trying to convince myself that it was okay, but I really didn’t like the fabric that was being produced. I have now gone to a 3.75mm needle and that’s my final offer!

Socializing:

I met up with my friend Anna and her boys for some blackberry picking and it was the highlight of my day, even though we were too late for the good blackberries.

I also didn’t manage to come home with any berries, but that’s okay.

Well I need to get some baking done before I get Gus and it gets hot.

Have fun!
