I Should Have Listened

When your day starts out a certain way, it pays to listen and change your plans!

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah and Kula for a morning trail run today. I arrived early and so went for a little jog along the road to warm up. It was a slow run, but still nice to get out and since we were early it was quiet.

I’m always worried about slowing people down when I run with them, but today Sarah slowed me down and it didn’t bother me at all as having someone to run with was more important. I need to keep this in mind as perhaps those other people feel that way too!

This evening after dinner I got out for a bit more of a run. I started out on the trail, but decided it was going to be too dark and so went out onto the sidewalk. I felt like I was running really fast, only to get home and realize I wasn’t. It was funny that I wasn’t feeling my legs at all whereas this morning they were tired and sore from my workout yesterday.

I was hoping to get to 10 or 11 km today as I have to do 21km for the mission this weekend, but I only got to 9.81km. I sure hope my running buddies are flexible tomorrow.

Shopping:

After a quick shower, I picked my mom up and we headed out to tackle my list.

We started at the brewery so I could pick up a hat for my brother, but unfortunately they weren’t open yet. I really should have taken this to heart and gone home at this point as it didn’t turn out to be a super successful shopping trip until late in the day. I stopped in to order Birkenstocks and got the impression the guy really didn’t want to deal with this. I tried to buy Woolite and couldn’t find the size of bottle I wanted. I looked for a duvet cover and couch and didn’t find either. I then went back and got the hat, but the woman in front of me took forever!

At this point I decided I needed food and introduced my mom to Freshii as she had never had it. I guess I’ve never been there so early and hadn’t seen their breakfasts before.

The Huervos bowl was awesome! I liked how it was smaller than their usual bowls.

At this point I decided to head for West Van to look for new shoes. We got stuck in horrible traffic for an hour!!! I turned around and headed to my least favourite mall which turned out not to have the store I wanted. We walked around the block to it and on the way back discovered there was an easy pedestrian overpass.🙄

It was finally on the way back to the car that my luck changed. I stopped into Zara and hit paydirt! I found a pair of tall brown boots I had been looking for, along with some cute shiny blue galoshes and a super warm coat:). It’s a good thing I walked that way through the mall or the whole day would have been a wash!

Eating:

My friend Sarah has been loving having a meal delivery service and has talked me into trying one. I found one, 2 Guys with Knives, that does a gluten free, dairy free version and don’t charge for delivery to my area. I ordered two meals as I am hoping that will get me through lunches and dinners for the week, but we shall see next week. I really don’t think this will become a regular thing, but it will be neat to try it out.

Family:

For the first time in a long time we had a family dinner with one of my brother’s, his wife and son, my parents and I. We were just missing my other brother and his family. We were once again at Pasta Polo and called this our Thanksgiving/ my brother’s birthday dinner. It was so great to see everyone and catch up!

I had an orange drink which still wasn’t sweet enough and the salmon with potatoes and veggies- still way too much food. It was all lovely though! I think they are going to start calling us by name!🤣

Knitting:

I am halfway through my pattern for today, so must get back to knitting!

Have fun!

They’re Home

It was a pretty great day right from the start to the end:)

Teaching:

My day started with being busy getting the special helper calendar and printing books ready for both grade 1/2 classes. My co teacher is home ill and she was worrying about these two things so I got them done so she could quit thinking of them and start getting better!

When I went to pick up the children at the door, one of my grade one boys gave me these:)

It was such a lovely start to my day!!!

We wrote out Fall bucket lists today. I have to say thank you to Mildlygranola as her Fall passport post was a great example for my students. I’ll have to take some photos to share with you as they came up with some good ideas:)

This one is mine:)

This afternoon we wrote out what we see, hear, smell, taste and touch in the Fall. All but one group did really well. The fifth group was too busy poking each other to get anything done!🙄😖

As we were heading out the door to play this afternoon we saw the principal showing a student and parent around. This usually means we are getting a new student. One of my little boys turns to me and says, ” don’t worry Miss B, they aren’t our problem cause our class is full.” 🤣🤪🤣🤪

We did get a new fridge today, but we were all super disappointed that it didn’t come in a box:(

Eating:

I’ve had a berry kale shake, a hard boiled egg, southwest chicken salad, larabar and seafood marinara today to eat. Can you tell I am a creature of habit when it comes to food? Actually I just get full so quickly that one dish lasts me all week!

Family:

I heard the best noise at 11:15am, my mom’s text alert- they had landed at home! I was super happy they were home and arranged to meet them for dinner. I did end up picking them up and we headed to a local pasta house- Pasta Polo. I like this restaurant because it is nice and quiet. You can actually have a conversation with people!!!! It also has a good selection of food without having a novel for a menu. There are starters, salads, pizza, pasta and dessert. Thankfully they also offer gluten free pasta and pizza base so I have some choice:). I forgot to take a picture of my seafood marinara

But here it is from a different trip to this restaurant in March. Talk about creature of habit! I should really try something new!

Actually I did try one new thing tonight- a lavender lemon drop martini. Not really my thing, but neat to try:)

Knitting:

I am yet again back to my quest to use up stash yarn. I have started a bowl of my own creation. We’ll see how it goes. I wish I could stay up knitting, but I should go to bed so I’m patient again tomorrow. See how long I can keep this “good day” streak up?

Have fun!

You win some, you lose some…

Not exciting day, but a productive one:)

Running:

I just got my usual inlet run over to Rocky Point park in this morning. I was frustrated because it took until 25 minutes for me to get into a good rhythm and the run is only 30 minutes! Grrr😖 At one point I thought that after I had been running for a while I wouldn’t have bad or weird runs anymore, but I’ve come to the realization that those odd runs are always going to crop up no matter how often, how far or how well I run normally. I guess I might as well just embrace them. Lol but I do hope I go back to normal soon!

I also got a walk in, shorter than normal and no workout as my legs are feeling achy. I figured a little rest was better than an overuse injury. Tomorrow is another day:)

Back to School:

My mom and I worked all day in my classroom today. I got the major project of my classroom library completed so I’m happy! My books for older kids are all stored and the easy books look enticing:) My mom even got my centres tidied up as well so that they look more inviting to the children. I have a couple big organization projects left, but nothing that can’t be done after the children come back.

Eating:

In June I received a gift certificate to go for high tea at the Cakes and Sweets Bakery in Coquitlam. I called yesterday and made a reservation for today at noon for my mom and I. I was so looking forward to it! I didn’t pack a morning snack as I know that I’m usually so full after high teas ( they are one of my favourite events to go out for)! This morning I received a phone call saying that while they could accommodate gluten free, they couldn’t deal with dairy free. I ended up cancelling my reservation:( Have they never heard of vegan butter or oil??? If I can bake delicious gluten free, dairy free sweets ( that the skeptical men in my family will eat), then they should be able to as well! I was really disappointed and am thinking of stopping in and seeing what they can do for me since I now have an unusable gift certificate:(

With the tea disappointment, my mom did exuded to go to Pasta Polo in Coquitlam for lunch as we needed to get blue painters tape at Rona down the street from there. It was obviously not my day for eating out. I was so hungry that I couldn’t make a decision by the time our waitress got to us, so I ended up with gluten free fusilli with a bolognese sauce. I always get seafood when I go out and I should have stuck with that trend. The food was fine, but it really tasted like something that I could have made at home.😞 The horrible part was the service! I actually had to go looking for someone so that I could pay the bill!  This isn’t my normal experience here so I’ll give it another shot.

Reading:

I finally got to the Burnaby Public Library, McGill Beanch who have a great selection of trashy romance novels:) They even had the book I’ve been looking for! So glad as I refuse to spend money on trashy novels!

Knitting:

I only got eight rows of my afghan done tonight ( I wanted to get my kitchen floor washed in case my mom sees here tomorrow), but it’s fun to do more than just knit one, purl one. This pattern even has a cable.  I will appreciate when I get to know the pattern better though as right now, I’m just following the pattern very carefully!!

Well tomorrow will be another busy day with going to the Fair, so I’m off to bed.

Have fun!
