Long Day Repeated

Another long day!

Teaching:

My day started with a meeting and I just have to say that I don’t love it when others don’t respect my time! Grrrr😖

I had an awesome young teacher help me through some yeh difficulties and then it was time to get the children.

I forgot my keys at home this morning. I don’t know how as I hang them on the doorknob, but I managed to, so we had to change things around a little, but we all survived. McCracken spelling, some math while I finished assessing addition strategies, and our second Rocks and Rings session.

I can’t recommend the Rocks and Rings program enough! It seems like every child in the school enjoyed it and it is such an inclusive sport. A definite success and the children were much better behaved today!

Tea:

I stole a tea bag off of a colleague today. In my defence the tea was in the tea cupboard at work which usually means it’s up for grabs and she wasn’t upset at me:). I mention the tea because it was delicious! It was Apple Cranberry tea from Trader Joe’s and it was amazing. The box is a simple red design and the tea is reddish when it is steeped. I would definitely recommend this tea!

Exercise:

I met up with Lyndsay for a workout. Hit the treadmill for a bit and then the floor. The treadmill went relatively fast as the Olympic women’s curling was on. Canada wasn’t competing so I was relatively calm😂. A guy came in though who was decidedly weird! I suppose it gave Lyndsay and I something to laugh about as he “worked out” by grunting through three reps and then checking his phone, turning the tv, playing with the volume, etc😂

The floor exercises today were single leg squats, goblet sumo squats, pendulum, mountain climbers, and upper cuts. I managed to use 10,12 and 20 lb weights today and hit 7.6 on the treadmill so I was happy with myself. We rewarded ourselves with the sauna.

My co worker this morning helped me set up the Polar Loop I was given a couple weeks ago. Amazingly it says I should still do another twenty five minutes of exercise today even though I’ve done 15,967 steps. I don’t think it’s happening😂. It will be interesting to see if I make my movement goal when I wear it for an entire day. I might have to see if I can wear it on my ankle though as it’s kind of big for my wrist:(

Photo Project:

This morning I was super efficient and got my RRSP contribution amount determined, got a manual printed off and got the last of my Boston trip pictures sent to Costco. Tonight I ran out to pick them up so I can get them off of my phone. They’re calling for some snow tomorrow so this will be a good indoor project:)

Reading:

I got approved for three more books on Net Galley today, but I’m going to finish Longbourne first.

Eating:

I tried Shape Shifter’s nutritional yeast popcorn tonight finally! I love eating popcorn but had never thought of putting nutritional yeast on it to get that slight cheesy taste. First, I always make my popcorn in a pot on the stove. It is loud, but it only takes five minutes! The popcorn was very yummy and the only change I would make is to try mixing the yeast with the vegan butter in the microwave so it wasn’t so powdery.

Well, I think I’m going to read and dream about what I want to do tomorrow as I have no commitments:)

Have fun!

AJ

Uh oh

The last words you want to hear when you come into your classroom after lunch!

Teaching:

We again didn’t get much work done today:( We watched a play this morning called Not So Dumb by Green-thumb Theatre.

I had really high hopes for this play as it was supposed to be about the fact that everyone is smart in some way, even people with a learning disability. Unfortunately the non examples, cruel teasing, physical fighting and mean names, was emphasized a lot more than the good message and how we should treat each other wasn’t touched on at all:(. It also was definitely more appropriate for the older children than for my little ones:(

We wrote about this presentation in the afternoon, our one piece of work today, but the children didn’t really have a lot to say about it.

We had an awesome time with our buddies today! We started in the gym with the big buddies guiding us through the ABC Fit Test and a couple of dances. Boy we’re there red cheeks by the end! We wanted to do a valentines project, but the supplies weren’t quite ready so that will be next week!

I returned from lunch to a closed door which I thought was very odd! It turned out that one of the boys, while depositing his toys back into toy storage, tripped and managed to knock a tray off the counter and break my teapot and spoon rest, both gifts from previous students:( Thankfully nobody was hurt, but I’m going to miss having those things at school!

Baking:

I left the pie on my colleagues desk this morning. She thanked me and then brought the pie in for everyone to enjoy at recess break. Everyone liked it so I can recommend the recipe Raspberry Pie 1 on Allrecipes.com. It was super good!!!😀

Photo Project:

I got home very late because we had an interminable staff meeting tonight. I wanted to get “finish labelling trip photos” off my to-do list so I sat down and did the 111 photos I had left. Now I just have to decide if I’m going to let that fulfill my goal or if I’m going to print the rest of my Boston pictures and get those labelled and deleted this month too.

Knitting:

I finished my first project of the month today. It fulfills a HPKCHC class and will be a gift for my friend’s new baby. It was a very simple baby sweater made with bulky yarn.

It uses the pattern Chunky Alpaca Baby Jacket which is free on Ravelry or can be found here.

I followed the instructions for the most part though I made the sleeves longer and put actual buttons (cute frogs) for closure rather than just ties. I thought these two changes were warranted by the dark colour and warmth of the yarn I was using. It was a very quick project and probably didn’t take more than two hours:)

I also have managed to stay up to date on my temperature scarf:)

Exercise:

I got a workout in this evening which was definitely necessary to relieve the frustration of the staff meeting. I had to do three sets of each of three circuits.

1) 20 squats, 15 squat jumps, 10 burpees

2) 20 mountain climbers, 15 push-ups, 10 hip bridges

3) 20 alternating lunges, 15 plié squats, 10 calf raises

It finished with a minute each of the following: Russian twists, bicycles, plank and superman.

I finished off with a little more cardio just to round up the time. I definitely liked the last circuit best:)

Reading:

I got another couple of chapters of Wives and Daughters listened to on Librivox as I knitted and did cardio. I also have picked up a chick lit novel to read next. I hope it’s good!

Well I’m going to try and get to sleep now to make up for the lack of sleep Saturday night!

Have fun!

A Little of Everything

A quite lovely day with a little of everything:)

Reading:

I woke up this morning and it was lovely to be able to stay in bed for a bit and continue reading Ready Player One. It sure seems to be taking me a long time to get this book read, though I think it may speed up now that it’s getting more interesting:)

Photo Project:

I got another 100 pictures from my Boston trip labelled and deleted off of my phone🎊🎉

I also got my dishes done during this time so I’m not a complete slob 🤣

Exercise:

I met up with Lyndsay for a workout at 11am. It was busy in the gym so we had to modify. Started with a five minute warm up on the treadmill and then we traded off- one person running on the treadmill and one person either rowing and riding the spin bike. I actually enjoyed this cardio because with all the changing of equipment it went very fast, plus the bike and rowing machine seem to use slightly different muscles:)

We then hit the floor for a deadly combo! It looked easy, but was actually tough. One person held a position and the other had to do reps. We did push-ups, knee tucks, bicep curls, triceps kickbacks, squats, and crunches. We then finished off with three sets of twelve reps of goblet squats, swing squats and supermen. Ugh! I was tired! The best part was the sauna after, we definitely need to do that again!

Cooking/eating:

I tried out a new product I saw at Costco this last week. It was sweet potato and zucchini noodles already prepared. I made up a quick spaghetti sauce and had this for dinner. It was pretty good, though I think I’ll just stick with making my own!I am in need of a raspberry pie recipe if anyone has a good one:)

Socializing:

I met up with Michelle for a coffee as it had been forever! It was so great to see her and learn about what’s happening in her life! I had to laugh at myself that I have become one of those people who carry their agenda with them everywhere! It was actually because I had a whole list of what I needed to do while I had wifi (it’s the end of my month and I’m almost out of data, which explains why I’m so quiet on here this weekend). I stayed after Michelle left and got some stuff done.

Tea:

I tried the Kusmi: St. Petersburg tea again today. I allowed it to only steep for about a minute and I added some milk to it. I actually like it this way so I’ll finish off the container.

I tried a tip I had read on Patricia’s blog about storing my tea bags in a big glass jar. I emptied all my packaged teas into a big glass jar and an hour later I put them all back into their individual containers😂. I liked how it looked and the fact it took up less space, but I came to realize that I really like finishing off a container of tea and getting to recycle the container. With the glass jar, I had doubts it would ever be empty:(

Knitting:

I was pretty productive in this area today. I read through the HPKCHC classes for February and have chosen some yarns to use for projects to fulfill a few of them.
doing it properly. Unfortunately I got completely caught up to present day when I had a brain flash that it would be so much better if I did it another way:(. 😞🙄😏. Maybe tomorrow I will look into this more!

I have to share the yarn organizer I created for this project. I realize I am probably late to the party and everyone already does this, but I was pretty happy with myself. 🤣 Well I am off to pack up my spaghetti and curl up with my book!

Have fun!

AJ

Hope

Not a very exciting day, but some little things got done:)

Teaching:

I had a parent meeting first thing this morning and it led to the best part of my day! I’ve been having difficulty with a couple of boys who pull out their Pokemon cards and bey blades to play with at inappropriate times. I get they want them for lunch and daycare, but I don’t want them during math! After talking to the mom, I started “toy storage”.

It’s just a labelled basket in which the children can store their toys until an appropriate time to play. I labelled ziploc bags with their names so we’d know what belonged to who. The kids loved it and I didn’t have one incident of inappropriate timed play all day. It was super cute that at the end of the day a girl asked if girls could use the toy storage too?🤣 Today gave me hope that we’ve solved one of the bigger problems in my class this year:)

Otherwise we had cupcakes and goodie bags for my new child’s birthday. Not an exciting day, though the children were excited that we played math games, painted and had centres all in one day! What was I thinking??!!

Eating:

I tried another product from the GF expo today.

It was a soft ginger cookie. I thought it was very attractive with the crystallized sugar on top. It was a soft cookie which I’m not really used to, but it seemed nice. The one thing I’d have to say was that I didn’t find the cookie had enough of a ginger flavour for me. Yet another product that I’m glad I got to try before buying as I won’t be buying it.

Exercise:

I made sure I left work by four so that I could get out for a run before dark. I decided to go out along the road as I knew the park path would just be one big puddle today after all the rain we’ve had:(. It made for a very boring run with no good picture opportunity:(. It was also frustrating because my earbuds kept falling out and though I was running a good pace, my average was 7:14/km because I had to wait at red lights:(. Grrr, but it will help on my goal of more running in February than the 72km I did in January.

Tea:

I tried the Kasmi: St Petersburg tea again today and again I didn’t like it. I will give it one more try tomorrow where I won’t steep it as long, but that is its last chance. It’s going in the garbage or to school if I still don’t like it!

Reading:

I didn’t get much time to read st lunch today because it was hot dog day, but I got s bit more done tonight. Ready Player One seems to be getting to a more interesting part:)

I’ve been upset that I’ve done so little reading in January. I thought about it and wondered if a trip to the library would help with getting my reading mojo back. I often have a light fluffy book on the go at the same time as a heavier one. They both get read faster:). I drove to the next town’s library as they have a better fluffy book selection and happily spent an hour and a half there:). I did really well and only came home with 21 books!😀

Knitting:

I have to thank Tracey for the help that let me finish my Cowl tonight for the third quidditch match on HPKCHC. I had tried casting off three times and was always fifteen stitches short. I ended up casting off as much as I could and then using the yarnless cast off she told me about for the rest. It got the job done and the Cowl off my needles:). Im glad it’s only for the Christmas market as I personally think it’s too long and skinny, but I’m just not willing to rip it out and redo it!

Tomorrow I will spend some time trying to plan my next few projects so I fulfill some of the HPKCHC classes for February and use up some stash yarn!

Photo Project:

The rest of my evening was spent labelling and deleting 100 of my trip photos off my phone. I figure it’s a start and I better do 100 each day! Amazingly I actually found two photos that I like of myself!!!! Doesn’t happen often so I kept them😂

Well I think that’s it for me:)

Have fun!

AJ

Continuously Busy

I’ve enjoyed my day, even though I was busy continuously!

Eating:

I’ve had a good eating day though it’s tough recalibrating for less food! I took this picture just for Maureen so she could look at someone else’s eggs for a change:) I’ll be eating them again tomorrow!I also thought I had better talk about the cookie I had today for my afternoon tea -as I don’t think I ever have.

A student brought me one of these cookies last year and they are actually very tasty for being free of the top eight allergens. They happened to be on sale the last time I went shopping. I have the ginger flavour this time, but I’ve liked the other flavours as well. Just beware that they are dense cookies, not light and fluffy.

It was interesting that the little girl who is going to be a food blogger when she grows up brought me a big bag of the bacon crisps she so liked last week. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I can’t eat them so I just took them to the staffroom.

Teaching:

We had a good day and I enjoyed my students today. I wonder why? We spent this morning doing a sharing circle about our weekend. I was shocked to learn that only four children and myself spent time outside this weekend. 😳I understand it was raining, but it’s always raining here! We also wrote in our journals about animals that hibernate. I had wanted it to be a bit of assessment, but my students seemed to need a little prompting, so I left off with that idea and let them share ideas. The best thing was that my little boy who is very low (doesn’t know all his sounds yet) managed to write a sentence by himself. Yes two of the three words were on the board, but he did it, which with his low self-esteem, was amazing. I had helped him with “A bear hibernates.” And by the time I got back to him he had done, “A frog hibernates.” Score 🎉🎊

We reviewed our addition strategies and also brainstormed with the other grade one class how we can help the community. It wasn’t as great a brainstorming as the others we’ve had about community, but I have to admit I don’t have a ton of ideas either about what five/six year olds can do.

Last thing, we taught all the grade ones a clapping game we learned at our in-service yesterday. I have to admit I loved doing this as I never got to play these games as a kid so it was neat to do it now. I definitely understand how you could spend hours doing this. The kids were having a blast and kept at it much longer than we were expecting them to. I’ll have to see if I can get a video of it tomorrow to show you all:)

After school we had the fun of putting the gymnastics equipment away🙄. After that I was super happy to get my addition file finally organized into the different adding strategies I teach. Hopefully it will be much easier to find appropriate practice pages and games now!

Tea:

My tea today was David’s Tea: Organic Jessi’s Tea. It was actually quite tasty:). I only have one more day out of this box of tea so tomorrow I get the fun of recycling another box. I can’t decide if I’m going to choose the next box based on size or age🤣

Exercise:

I got home by 4:30 so that I could have dinner before my run clinic at 6:30. I was halfway through my bowl of oatmeal when my running buddy texted to say she wasn’t going tonight. I figured I had the option of running in the cold, dark and wet with strangers or just in the cold and wet by myself. I hustled out the door and got my run done before dark. It was a little tough tonight as I literally finished eating as I was going out the door and I wore the wrong pants. They soaked up about ten pounds of water and were dragging behind me by the end, but I went😀. I also pushed myself to keep a steady, faster pace which felt good. A guy on a bike went by and said hi with a smile- makes me wonder what I looked like from behind out there with my pants trailing and splashing through the puddles🤣

Knitting:

I haven’t knitted anything today, though I have found my next project which will be a quick baby sweater out of chunky wool. It will fulfill a HPKCHC challenge and hopefully will suit my friend’s baby to come. I can’t wait to find out what she’s having so I can knit in girl or boy colours rather than white, yellow and green.

Several of you asked for a picture of me in my new sweater( yes I’m like a little kid and had to wear it today). I don’t know if it’s mental or not, but I swear it kept me warmer than any store bought sweater does! Please just remember I’m not photogenic! I swear I gain ten pounds just turning the camera on!

I’ve been tidying at home tonight as knit night is at my place tomorrow.

Photo Project:

I got one box of the developed photos labelled and erased off my phone. I really thought it would free up more space than it did. Of course, I seriously don’t understand my phone as this morning I did nothing and watched the memory decrease by 0.3😏

Reading:

I took another page from Maureen’s book and spent some time this evening on the couch enjoying my book, Ready Player One by Ernest Clive. So far so good, but I better get going on it as I think book club is approaching rapidly! I had really better look that up!

I have also spent some time reading blogs tonight. I’ve been trying to go and read the latest post of whoever has liked or commented on my posts. It’s a different approach, but I’ll give it a shot and see how it works.

Well, I’m going to try for one more chapter of my book before I head for bed.

Have fun!

AJ

Brrrr

A day without children.

Teaching:

It was a Professional Development day today so I had to sit and learn instead of teach. This always gives me a lot of insight into my students as I’m horrible at sitting and listening, especially in a freezing library!!! We had theory on the new Physical Literacy curriculum this morning followed by a half hour of hands on games. They were doing pretty good until the last one that put me right back into elementary school and reminded me why I hated gym class then! Three on three “you can’t touch me”. The object of the game was to pass the ball five times to get a point. I, of course, was guarded by the tallest person on the other team so I touched the ball once:(. It wasn’t fun!

This afternoon we had a meeting about a whole school ADST project we’re doing around the book “The Most Magnificent Thing”, where students have to create something out of a box. We’ve decided to tackle it in March so it’ll be interesting to see how it works.

I finished the day with some laminating and escaped. I loaded my car up with some donation stuff, but it was packed at the donation centre so I’ll have to go back another day.

Eating:

I went out for lunch with five co-workers today for lunch. We went to our local sushi place and it was a disaster:( I asked and was told the steamed rice was gluten free. Great! I ordered two rolls that didn’t list anything I couldn’t eat and made sure the waitress marked down it had to be gluten free and dairy free. Well when my food arrived and I picked up a piece, just as it got to my lips,my lips started to burn ( early warning system I guess) and one of my colleagues cried stop. The side of the roll facing away from me was coated in tempura bits. The other roll had a deep fried, battered prawn in it:( I sent it back and ended up eating tuna sashimi.

This was the second disappointment of the day as there were snacks provided this morning so I didn’t eat breakfast. I got there and all I could eat was fruit:(. They had yogurt and muffins:(. I guess it was good as it definitely cut down on my calories for the day.

Tea:

My tea today was David’s Tea: Coco Chai Rooibus. It was okay, not my favourite probably because I’m not a big chocolate lover, but I didn’t pour it out either.

By the way, the Oat milk worked well in my tea today:)

Knitting:

I stayed up late last night and got my sweater done! Who knew sleeves could take so long?!?! I am very happy with it and will wear it to school tomorrow.

I used the Anthi Pullover pattern that is free on Ravelry or through Knitty Magazine. On a side note, I seem to make a lot from Knitty. I made the ties at the neck shorter and I may just make it so the neckline buttons. I also lengthened the sleeves as they were very short! I used the Riverstone Yarns fingering weight yarn I bought at Knit City so I’m happy about that! I made the XS and before I started I was very worried it would be too small, but now that I see it, I’m glad I didn’t make it any bigger. The amazing thing is that I actually checked the gauge before starting and was right on! I ended up with only 5 yards of yarn left. I got it entered for the HPKCHC class of Care of Magical Creatures. Hopefully it will work for that!

Exercise:

It has been pouring here for days so I’ve been very unmotivated to run. I forced myself to get out there tonight though. My Runkeeper came up with a speed interval workout so I did it, but my phone died with two minutes left:(. I felt so uncoordinated and yet it was my fastest run in the last little while. In the end I was glad I went as the sun peeked through the clouds and made my favourite type of light and it actually didn’t rain on me until the very end.

Project:

I started getting the Boston photos labelled that I picked up late last week. I am so looking forward to having all those photos off my phone! Maybe it will stop acting so weird!!

Movies:

I watched The Best Christmas Present Ever tonight. It was very sweet and had not one, but two cute men in it:)

Well I’m off to read before bed.

Have fun!

AJ

Where to Start?

My first day off and I’m awake at 6am thinking of a list of things I needed to get done today:( grrrr! Then I had so many things on the list, that I had no idea where to start,😂

Exercise:

I got out for a run this afternoon, but it was slow because of all the ice. It was beautiful out! I had waited for the afternoon because it was -6 all morning. When it finally hit 0, I figured that was my best chance for going. It felt good to get out!

I wanted to use my new headphones, but didn’t realize they had to be charged. Good thing I looked and hopefully they’re now ready for the plane tomorrow. My plan is to listen to Jane Eyre and knit my toque.

Tea:

The tea in the David’s Tea Advent calendar today was white cranberry bark. I found it slightly tart or bitter. I’m not sure why:(.

I also had the December 24th tea of Santa’s Secret which was very yummy:)

Christmas Movies:

I have been watching Christmas movies as I did other things today.

I have enjoyed all of them:)

Projects:

I also sat down and got 482 pictures labelled and deleted off of my phone so that I have a chance of being able to take some photos while I’m away. I’m glad to finally get that job done! Now I just have to remember to upload some more to Costco for printing when I get home!

Reading:

I got a bit more of Frankie Presto read this evening. I think I’m starting the last part. I’ll take it with me and leave it for my mom to read when I’ve finished it. I’m definitely looking forward to the give and take book room where my parents are:)

Christmas presents:

I opened the presents I had been given today as I won’t be home on Christmas Day and I’m leaving at 4am tomorrow morning. I was definitely spoiled!

The rest of the day has been taken up with doing laundry, dishes, sweeping and packing. I’m almost happy with my packing though I figure as usual I’ll only wear half of what I’ve taken! For now I’ve put a pair of plastic circular needles into my purse, but I don’t know if I should even try taking them???

Well I’m off to bed as I’m getting up at a ridiculous time!

Have fun!

AJ

Yipppeeeee!

A good day with a surprise!

Exercise:

I’ve been sleeping in in the mornings this week so there was no run for me.  However, I got a real workout in this evening. I warmed up and then did six circuits consisting of two exercises each with a cardio blast after each circuit and bonus abs at the end. Each move was repeated twice and done for 45 seconds with 15 seconds rest in between. It felt so great to sweat and really workout with both cardio and weights!!  I’m baaaaaack:)

Teaching:

I only had sixteen children today, but I think each might have been the equivalent of four!! First, it’s only six days until Christmas and second, we had our first snowfall today!

Sorry I missed getting the pretty picture of the tree outside my place that I wanted to:(

We were all about gingerbread today. We read a story, labelled a gingerbread man, and described gingerbread men. I taught about adjectives and it was one of those amazing moments where I got to actually teach a concept and the children got it!!!!😀

We also finished our parent cards and took the present and card home today. I sent home a card for each child from me as well. It was just photocopied, but it was cute and I wrote an individual note to each child inside. We could only give pencils because a child had an allergic reaction yesterday to a treat he had been given by a friend so our principal is hyper alert about this issue right now and all the candy canes said, “may contain Nuts”.  It’s definitely not the most exciting gift, but at least it’s a little something.

I also got given two presents today. One was a Santa container filled with chocolates ( that I can’t eat). I kept the container that is super cute and gave the chocolates to a co-worker for her children. The second gift was a natural remedies set from Saje which has spray, lotion, etc in it. It was so kind of parents to send me gifts, I just always feel so bad they’ve wasted their money as I can’t enjoy them so I just give them away:(

This afternoon we had a hold and secure drill which the children did fabulous at and we made a class book about eating parts of the gingerbread man. It turned out super cute as their pictures had to leave out the part they had eaten. I think the missing tummy was the cutest!

Picture Project:

I have had my album of my oldest friend’s wedding on the go for months and tonight I decided I needed to finish it! Mostly because I need to print and label some photos off my phone so I can make room for my upcoming holiday!  I timed myself and it only took 32 mi Utes for me to finish the album!  It felt so good to get it done! Now I just have to get some photos off my phone before Sunday!

Shopping:

I meant to go to the mall today to pick up some travel items and new headphones but after walking across the street, I decided not to. It worked out for the best though as I’m now going with Lyndsay after school tomorrow. It’s always more fun to do things with a friend!

Tea:

Today’s tea was Organic The Spuce is Right. I tried it plain and it does have quite the spuce to it, but later in the morning I made a second cup and added almond milk to it and I preferred it that way. I don’t think this is a tea I would buy myself.

Christmas Movies:

Tonight I watched, A Boyfriend For Christmas. This tween girl asks Santa for a boyfriend for Christmas and he promises her one by the end of twenty years. Of course they meet and he lies to her so she’s not interested. I’m sure you can figure out the ending😜. It wasn’t the best one I’ve seen as I didn’t live the actors in it and I really don’t know why?!

Knitting:

My post is late this evening as I wanted to finish my niece’s rainbow toque. It turned out great though I really should learn to make a proper Pom pom!  I used the pattern “snow hat for kid” off Ravelry. I knitted it flat and seamed it and I also did an extra decrease row at the top as it seemed too big to finish to me.  I’m happy with how it turned out and it’s super warm! The great thing about my niece is that she’s the same size as me so I know that since the hat fits me, it will also fit her:)

Well, it has felt great to get back to accomplishing things in a day! I even got a load of laundry done. I always laugh at how difficult I can find it to put a load of laundry on when you think about a hundred years ago when laundry was an all day chore. I should really have no trouble putting it in a machine and pressing two buttons!!!

Well I’m off to bed!

Have fun!

AJ

Rearranged Day

A busy day that rearranged itself into a quiet day. I was supposed to go for a run and lunch and then shopping with another friend, but…

Exercise:

I slept in this morning and didn’t wake up until 8am. I never put an alarm on as I don’t normally need one but I may have to start using one for Saturday morning. I felt it was too late to go do the crunch as it gets super busy there so I said goodbye to the cinnamon roll for today. Lately I had been thinking about the step aerobics video I used to do daily when I first started getting fit in university. I decided to try it out this morning. I popped it in and did the whole thing. I was warm and glistening but not dripping sweat like I usually am after a bootcamp workout. It was nice to know I’ve improved in fitness over the past twenty years 🤣

Later this afternoon my running buddies joined me for a run around Coquitlam River. I have been wanting to run here as it’s beautiful when the leaves turn colour and fall, but there really weren’t any picturesque spots yet:( I had to make do with these photos. Kula had been at doggy daycare so we didn’t know how far we’d make it before he refused to go any further but we actually got all the way around- a 5km run. At the end we saw this cute signboard on the fence. He is getting better at being a running buddy every time we got out though he still provides cross training in the form of jumping over him as he cuts you off😂 He was definitely tuckered out by the end!

Eating:

I finally finished all the Thanksgiving leftovers (but not the turkey soup yet) and got the chance to try another one of the Vegan cheeses my mom had brought me from the Oliver Wine Festival. I tried the smoked Gouda this time. It was again a little slippery to the touch and the flavour was light, but still quite delicious. Would be great with an apple in a sandwich as it’s not a strong taste.

So far, I’ve been impressed with these Vegan Black Sheep cheeses!

I also had the chance to go out for sushi today with my human running buddy. Kula decided to stay home for a nap instead 😂.  I’m lucky Sarah was willing to drive to Maple Ridge so we could go to Wasabi Sushi which has a huge gluten free sushi menu:)

I managed to decide on the salmon avocado roll, the BC roll and the Botan Ebi nigiri. It was all so delicious!

I highly recommend this place! It’s even nice enough for a date:). The only thing was that tonight they made a point of bringing me gluten free ginger; I didn’t realize there could be gluten in pickled ginger. I’ll have to look into this.

Knitting:

I finally did something useful today and organized my circular knitting needles. When I checked Pinterest for ideas on how to store them, I liked the CD case idea, but settled for the page protectors I already had. I’ll have to bring home a binder from school on Monday.  Is it weird that I wish I could buy new circular needles to replace some of mine just so that they would be in their original packages. I’ve now learned to store my needles in the package they come in, but I have to admit I didn’t always know this and now I regret it😞

I also got the yarn organized that has been piling up in the basket beneath my coffee table. It was a real wreck and was getting out of control! It is now a lovely organized basket:) If anyone has any pattern suggestions for what to do with multiple small sock yarn ends (less than 100 meters and some as small as 20 meters), please let me know, otherwise I may need to garbage them.

I have started just a plain pillow cover for my mom as she was right when she said that a pattern wouldn’t show up with the fluffy yarn I’m using (sometimes I hate how she’s always right lol). Hopefully I’ll be able to show you a finished product soon!

Blogging:

You may have noticed I had an unusual blog post earlier today. Abbey at Three Cats and a Girl (an amazing reader and interesting person so check out her blog) had tagged me in a reading blog and I finally got it finished today. It was a tough blog post! First I had to learn how to tag people, then I had to figure out the answers. That was quite the task as I’m not great at remembering what I’ve read.  I had Goodreads to help me, but I’ve recorded 1152 books I’ve read on there so it was still quite overwhelming. I never did learn to cut and paste so I had to retune everything on my phone which took a lot longer than it probably should have. It was an interesting experience and really made me think so probably a good thing!

Reading:

It really worked last night writing about my book club book as I got a few chapters read and am now almost 1/3 of the way done. I’m hoping to get a few more chapters read tonight. Perfect night for it as it’s cold and dark here!

Project:

I’ve had pictures from my Boston trip printed for a while but haven’t written the date on them yet so they can be deleted off my phone ( the whole point of printing them!) and today I finally asked myself why?  I realized it was because I have pictures printed and dated from my last three trips that aren’t in albums yet and I want to get them dealt with first so I don’t get all these photos confused.  So here I sit organizing the photos from my trip out East in May for my friend’s wedding. I don’t know if I’ll get them labelled tonight but they will at least get put into an album today:)

With knitting, reading, album making and laundry to do tonight, I had better get going!

Have fun!

The Grasshopper and the Ant

Today has been another super busy day as I’m trying to be ready for my Boston trip a day early so I can visit my parents tomorrow.

My day started out lovely with a run at Hyde Creek in Port Coquitlam. This run starts at the rec Centre, which is great in case you need a washroom or water, then makes its way through a forest path ( nice and shady and cool today) to the dyke. My running buddy and I just did 15 minutes out and fifteen back as we were getting reports that there was a bear ahead of us. We never did see or hear it.

We followed the run up with a trip to Maple Ridge for sushi. It might be crazy to drive 20 minutes just for sushi, but on occasion I make the drive so that I can eat rolls. Wasabi Sushi/Grill offers gluten free and dairy free ( they also cater to other allergies)😀 They have the best menu I’ve seen for gluten free menu and it wasn’t outrageously expensive. I pigged out on tuna maki, a bc roll and a salmon/avocado roll IMG_7386.JPGwhile my friend had the roll combo and with tip it came to $33. The place is just in a strip mall, but the inside is nice and it’s clean, the service is attentive, but not invasive and the sushi is yummy!

From there it was home to do a few more photos and then off to get my eyelashes and eyebrows died. I’m so blonde that if I don’t get them done, it looks like I have neither. So glad I found Lisa at Chic Beauty Bar. It’s great to be able to chat as you’re have esthetic services and her prices are in-line with everyone else’s:)

My cousin came back to finish installing my new toilet, how exciting, lol and I got the last of my blueberries frozen. My freezer looks like it may belong to the ant from the Aesop Fable: The Grasshopper and the Ant. It wasn’t planned, but I’m sure going to enjoy all the fruit this winter!

I also sold all my old pants and shorts for a ridiculously low amount, but at least they are out of my house!!!

I got out for my usual inlet walk. Boy was it ever busy tonight, even with the continued smoke.

The rest of the night has been spent doing more photos. I now have less than 700 photos on my phone and I have one more day before I leave. Oh the other thing I did today was look into a phone plan for while I’m away. Does anyone else get really confused doing this??? I’ve given up for today, but I’ll have to tackle it again tomorrow.

Well I want to finish off my book in bed, so I’ll leave you to the night!

Have fun!
