Happy Friday Eve!

Just another day, but thankfully a day closer to the weekend.

Teaching:

I had three students this morning and two this afternoon. We did reading comprehension, a run, the core competencies assessment needed for the report card, some counting of coins, and some reading practice. It is definitely tougher with these two kids as neither of them talks. Maybe tomorrow we will work on how to have a conversation🤣

After school my teaching buddy and I tried to start report cards, but we just felt brain dead. We got the two stock comments copy and pasted, but figure we’ll work on them on Saturday. Good thing it’s calling for rain all weekend!

Exercise:

I really didn’t want to exercise but ended up doing a BeFitDavis workout of jogging, squats, pushups, shoulder press, deadlifts, crunches and reverse crunches. 16 minutes is better than nothing.

Baking:

I have a girls outdoor meetup tomorrow and so decided to try one of the recipes on the box of Chex. I think they are supposed to be like Rice Krispie squares but with Chex and peanut butter, but I think the Chex needs to be smaller. They aren’t great but unfortunately that didn’t stop me from eating them:(

Movie:

I watched Double Holiday tonight. It was a super cute movie with two cute guys in it. It made for a nice recovery from my day.

Well I really haven’t done anything today so I’m going to bed now.

Have fun!

Just One Email

My day was pretty good, minus one email.

Teaching:

It was my remote teaching day so after a quick run to the grocery store I sat down and checked and commented on the children’s work online. Then I found two appropriate books about the Coronavirus for kids and checked out the virtual field trips we will take next week.

It was a productive day though I didn’t really feel settled. I find it difficult to switch back and forth between being at home working and being in the classroom. I just never can get into a routine.

Family:

I took the opportunity of being home to spend my lunch hour with Gus. I grabbed him a bubble tea and a quick visit to a local park. I so love being with that kid! He then helped me vet virtual field trips. Figure the best way to know if a kid is interested is to get a kid to pick them.

I was having a pretty good day until I checked my email to find out that my principal has moved the report card deadline up to June 12th and the program we have to use will be offline for maintenance all weekend. I feel like lately it’s just a game of how can we make life difficult for teachers. My colleagues and I think that a requirement for being in charge and making decisions is a lack of common sense. I guess I know what I’m doing this weekend. This provided a lot of anger to fuel my run!

Exercise:

I got most of a kickboxing class down that I followed off YouTube. I really do love kickboxing as I feel so strong, though I did unfortunately notice a lack of stomach muscles. I guess those Hallmark workouts were doing something as I definitely had a harder time with the sit-ups today than I have been.

This evening I met Sarah for a run around a local river. It’s a slow run for me, but I’ve come to realize that that’s okay as it lets me go faster the other days. I added another 3.94km to my trek to South Dakota. We did notice that it was super humid!

Knitting:

I wasn’t allowed a Hallmark movie today as I wasn’t in the school so I spent the evening knitting and reading. I have finished a toque. The pattern is A Little Lonely Cable by Joji Locatelli and it is free on Ravelry. The yarn is just scrap yarn I had laying around. I am hoping to have a toque in every colour for next winter, so this will take care of the light blue one. Please ignore the error!

I was thinking of Compassionknit and realized I hadn’t shown any knitting lately. So this is for you:)

Well that’s it for me.

Have fun!

A Wasted Day

My mom is in town and I didn’t even get to see her today:( A waste of a day!

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis this morning, but neither of us was feeling a run. Thankfully there were two of us so we went anyways. It was almost exactly three kilometers before my legs eased up. The last kilometer downhill was my favourite!

That was unfortunately my only exercise today:(

Teaching:

I spent all five hours checking work today! It was insane how much I had to check after not being able to check for three days.

Knitting:

While my cousin was here replacing my leaky faucet I finally started another knitting project. I had a single ball of yarn hanging around and while my mom thought I should put it with something else to make a bigger project, I decided I really just wanted a toque out of it. I am trying out Joji Locatelli’s A Little Lonely Cable, a free pattern on Ravelry.

Toe up socks will be next I think:)

Movie:

I needed cheering up after not seeing my mom so I watched another Hallmark movie tonight. Nature of Love was very cute!

Have fun!

Happy Friday Eve

It would be nice if this state of emergency could be lifted so I had more interesting things to share with you. Ha who am I kidding🤣🤪

Teaching:

I reviewed work, finished assembling the activities for next week and then had my first two video conferences with kids. The first one was great. It was nice to see H and make sure he was okay. I also got after him to do some work!🤣. The second one was with my autistic child who is low functioning. I saw exactly why the vulnerable team had him come into the school for work- he was all over the place! It almost made me feel sick to my stomach he moved so much. It was still nice to see him though!

I finished the afternoon off by planning report cards with my co teacher. I think we have a pretty good idea of what we need to do so that we can have these reports ready in 24 days.

There was of course drama over the teaching assignments, but I’m trying not to worry as I know my principal likes to throw her weight around and make big changes but it usually all changes in September anyways. Especially this year! Who knows what’s going to happen!

We also had one of our teachers announce his retirement today. He will be sorely missed as he’s a great guy and a great teacher who gives a lot to the school!

Exercise:

Today it was just yoga day. I was going to do a Yoga with Adrienne video, but decided to just run through my list of poses instead. I hope one day that I will actually feel flexible. I used to be super flexible, but that was before I started running.

Knitting:

Oh I am so close and I really want to wear it tomorrow!! I may be knitting a lot tomorrow!

Eating:

A good day with lots of veggies. I’ve had:

1/2 apple with Pb

Celery with cream cheese and hummus

Carrot with guacamole

Haddock bites

Baked potato with sour cream and salsa mixed

Well there’s my life.

Have fun!

AJ

Talking Tuesday

Life was pretty typical here today.

Exercise:

I went out for my run this morning but really didn’t want to. I just can’t figure out my days off as this is the third run day in a row so my legs are getting tired! I am running with Dennis tomorrow so hopefully they are better then! I got five kilometers in, but it wasn’t pretty or fast. I don’t want to take every other day off, but I need fresh legs for Friday and Sunday for sure!

This evening I did another BeFitDavis workout. This was her upper body workout and had me doing pike pushups, row to tricep extension, circle raises and military press with a shoulder rotation. I think I’m definitely going to feel this tomorrow!

Teaching:

It was a pretty typical day of checking work, planning for next week and then having a boring staff meeting. Everyone was celebrating how great the report samples online were, but they sure didn’t seem great to me yesterday when I looked at them! I finished the day by checking more student work and creating my Microsoft Teams classroom. I guess I have to try this out at some time!

Knitting:

I have been knitting on the body of my sweater, when suddenly today I got the idea that I should go do the collar and the arm cuffs so that I could then use up all possible yarn for the length. I am almost done the neckline right now and plan to finish before I go to bed. Knitting during the staff meeting really helped in getting the sweater done and keeping me calm.

Reading:

I finished a book last night called Ayesha at Last. It is a spin off of Pride and Prejudice set in a Muslim Canadian community. It was excellent! I really liked how there were enough similarities to P&P that you could tell who people were supposed to be and a couple of the best lines were included, but it was still different enough to hold my attention. The Muslim community seemed a great fit for this book.

Socializing:

I have been listening to an audio book from the library and I had gone to the kitchen when I realized that my book had stopped. My friend Cori was calling me and I had an awesome end to my night visiting with her:)

Eating:

I’ve had another good day and hopefully it will be enough to give me a good weigh in number tomorrow! I’ve had:

Runner’s waffle

Strawberries

Kiwi and almonds

Hamburger patty with guacamole

European wiener

I’m sure there’s something else, but once again, my mind is blanking.

Well I have to get back and finish my last two rows of the neckline so that I will have a sweater to show you soon!

Have fun!

AJ

Monday again

How does Monday always arrive so quickly???

Exercise:

Sarah has cancelled our run today so I got myself out first thing this morning. It was a gorgeous day for a run, but even at 7:40 in the morning, it was already busy. I just did a loop to the mill and back.

This evening I did another BeFitDavis workout. It was a no excuses total body workout. I really liked this one as it felt like it hit everything. Four rounds of: bicep curls, single leg deadlift with a row, double pulse plié squats, front lunges with a twist, lateral raises, front raises, Russian twists and swings.

I really should look into a heavier kettlebell!

Teaching:

I checked all the work and was happy to see everyone seemed to do something. I then walked up to school to get some more supplies as we’ve just been informed we have to write report cards. 🙄. Can’t they just cite a pandemic as there is no way these reports are going to be authentic! On the way home from school i saw this and I ran into 8 kids. It was nice to see them all! It seems like parents are starting to let some play dates occur, but they were shocked to hear that school won’t be like it was before if we go back before September.

Knitting:

I have done another pattern repeat on my sweater. My goal is one pattern repeat each day as that is only fourteen rows! Hopefully o can maintain that!

Eating:

I think I’ve had a good day. Chia seed pudding with pineapple, two hamburger patties, and there must be other stuff, but I can’t think of it right now. I’m not starving and not stuffed so we’ll call it a good day!

Reading:

I’m reading Ayesha At Last right now and really liking it. So I’m going back to reading.

Have fun!

AJ

Happy Weekend!

Another good day- boy I wonder how long I can keep this going??

Exercise:

I got out for a 9.39km fun in the neighborhood with Dennis. We even included a little bit of trail, though I learned I slow down massively on the trails. I felt like I was having to work really hard on the run even though I wasn’t going that fast, but I’m the end, I would call it a good run.

This evening I did a total body strength workout from BeFitDavis. I had to do squat with bicep curl to shoulder press, reverse lunge with bicep curl to row, side lunge with reach to single leg press, and a squat to diagonal front raise. I definitely felt some of those moves after four sets!!

Teaching:

It was a pretty good day. I only had to check work on all the different platforms, so that was nice:)

Socializing:

I did my usual teacher meetup from six feet away. It’s always so nice to have time with friends! I come home feeling rejuvenated and calmer. The only thing that will be better is when my mom shows up to hug me!

I did notice on the way home a sign that said the local lake was full. I sure hope people aren’t forgetting g the social distancing already or we might be in for some trouble!

Baking:

I did some baking, but you’ll hear about that at the end of the month.

House:

I got y laundry done and my house plants watered. I even got my bike oiled. I think the kickstand was pressing against the wheel. Hopefully I will get out tomorrow to test it out.

Knitting:

I had the chance to sit out on my deck and enjoy the sunshine as I was knitting. I’m glad I’m finally getting motivated with this sweater. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a sweater take this long before. I think I’m about 9 rows away from joining in the round:)

Eating:

Not a great day, but thankfully I burned a lot of calories with my run. I was just thinking today that I feel like I’m on the road back to eating appropriate sized meals.

Mini kind bar, 3 honey stinger chews

Veggie soup, 2 slices corned beef deli meat (I really wish there was an ash way to get protein without the salt of deli meat!)

Homemade bread with cheese and avocado

1.75 baked good

Reading:

I finished listening to The Semi Attached Couple by Emily Eden. I really enjoyed this book and liked that it ended happily for everyone:). I Lao really like the narrator, Elizabeth Klett. I’ll have to look on LibriVox and find another book she has read.

Well I’m going to curl up with a book:)

Have fun!

AJ

Happy Friday Eve

It was actually a second good day in a row!

Teaching:

I checked all the work on all the platforms. I wish I could share what my students are doing for STEM- they have created so many cool things out of a box- pirate ship, sailboat, race car, tv, stove, DJ booth, forts. I have been so impressed. My favourite thing though is when they send me videos of themselves. They look so cute when I don’t have to deal with their mischievous ways all day.

I had been dreading the staff meeting this afternoon all week, but it wasn’t so bad. I think it’s because my principal actually said she didn’t know and didn’t go off on a power trip. I laughed when she said we’re going to keep on with the Teams staff meetings even after we’re back. Of course she wants to because she can just ignore everything we have to say(type).🙄🤣

Exercise:

I actually managed to get a workout and yoga in today which was the plan. All too often my yoga gets left out. I ended up doing an abs workout from BeFitDavis and a half hour Hatha yoga video from yoga by Christine. It was okay, but if anyone has a yoga they love online, please tell me about it!

House:

I have been so good this week and today I got my floors swept, including the deck and my carpet vacuumed. I didn’t bother washing the floor as I actually managed to keep it clean this week.

I even had the chance to wash my bike because it was so warm and sunny out. Now I just need a YouTube video of a bike tune up. I bet there’s a lot of use of YouTube videos right now for things people can’t get done.

Knitting:

I finished up the top back and started on the front. Nothing really to show yet though. I am enjoying the project more now:)

Eating:

Not a perfect day, but not the worst either. At least I kind of feel like I’m getting back to my small meals. I’ve had:

Yogurt & granola

Mandarin & cheese & 5 almonds

Pork loin chop & roasted veggies (my poor stomach wasn’t happy even as I was eating this, but this was the end of it)

Granola (while worrying about the staff meeting which turned out fine)🙄

Coleslaw & 2 slices of corned beef deli meat. (I’m going to regret this salt tomorrow)

Family:

I got a text late afternoon to see if I’d be willing to help my niece with her essay assignment and spent a couple of hours helping her over FaceTime and google docs. She is so techy!! It was great to have the time with her and I don’t even care that it probably ate a ton of my data- she’s way more important to me!

Well, have fun!

AJ

Wahoo Wednesday!

Happy hump day and I’m so happy I actually got all of my assignments for next week done in a day! I’m just getting good at this so of course it will change.🙄

Reading:

Last night I finished a Hotshot Doc by RS Grey. I really enjoyed the book as it had some twists in it and it made me laugh out loud several times.

Teaching:

Today went well, probably partly because I have high speed data back so I didn’t have to go looking for WiFi .

I got all work checked, all assignments created and uploaded for next week, and then more work checked.

Two of my students who haven’t done much, did stuff today so thankfully I don’t have to send them emails tomorrow. I also got an email from a parent complaining about the format of my work and suggesting I get this fancy printer. I decided to actually set him straight that all the help I get from my school or district is being handed my classroom laptop and told to go teach. I’m using all my own resources and having to figure it out as I go! I got an email back thanking me for what I have provided online.

Rant: be kind to the teachers in your life- most of us are doing jobs we aren’t trained for with little to no support and having to find and use our own resources. I know one city is making their teachers go into school starting next week to teach (students are home) because “the general public thinks teachers aren’t doing anything”.

No I’m just working longer hours than I do when I go to school!😖😖

Exercise:

I met up with Sarah this evening for a run. It was a lovely six kilometers, though boy was it busy out there! It’s funny how my definition of crowded has changed.🤣

I also got in another BeFitDavis workout tonight. This one was using the small band which seriously works your body. I do wish she had included some upper body moves. I realize I could add my own, but I actually didn’t think of it until this very moment.

Knitting:

I sat myself down and did the next section of my sweater which was 18 rows. They were much simpler as the pattern now is just a slip stitch. I need to do a bit each day!

Eating:

I was still good but I did treat myself. I had:

Yogurt & granola

Cheese on cucumber

Avocado on toast 😋

Cinnamon roll mug cake 😋

It’ll be back to veggies tomorrow:)

Well I think that’s it for me today. Sorry about the rant:)

Have fun!

AJ

Ugh

I hate it when I screw up a run.

Teaching:

Today went fine- lots of commenting on work and some planning with my co teacher for next week. Nothing very exciting, except I loved seeing my students box creations! I’ve seen a sailboat, a stove, a race car, a tv, and a fairy house. All very cool!

Exercise:

I had a text first thing this morning telling me I was late for the run, but Dennis was actually 8.5 hours early, and he’s the one that set the time!

It was not a great run- my veggies and pork loin chop lunch did not sit well at all! I figure it’s a success that I wasn’t sick on the trail.

Dennis wanted to do eight, but I called a halt at 6km.

We have also come to the realization we have to stick with 8am as there are just too many people out at 4:30pm.

Eating:

I’ve had a good food day!

Yogurt & granola

Kiwi & almonds

Roasted veggies & pork loin chop

Mandarin orange

Coleslaw

Well I’m desperate to finish my book so that’s it from me tonight!

Have fun!

AJ
