Monday Musings

The day went pretty well. I am attributing it to everyone feeling more at ease because our principal was away for the day.

Teaching:

We got through a journal entry about peace and I was super happy that so many children volunteered to read what they had written- even the little guy who cried the first time!

We had gym and did the stations approach again- hoop jumps, plank, jumping jacks and squat jumps. I did them with the kids and got quite the workout!

This afternoon we had silent reading. I always do guided reading during this time and today a little girl came up and asked when she got to come. I couldn’t believe I missed her on my plan!! I really praised her for coming and asking though.

We also did a cut and paste about peaceful versus not peaceful actions. We did it as a class and it went super smoothly.

We ended the day with outside playtime. I really wish I had worn about five more layers! It was so cold today and the kids were super excited because the forecast called for snow. None showed up though.

I spent some time after school working with my teaching buddy on the report card templates. They have changed it again on us. This is the fourth time in four years🙄😖

Shopping:

I did some more online shopping today as I work to use up gift cards. I have purchased an electric blanket from Walmart which should be here by the 20th and I spent an hour picking two books from Chapters to use up my store credit as I didn’t want to forget about it. I have the new Oh She Glows cookbook and a modern top down knitting book coming, hopefully!

House:

As I write this, I realize I forgot to do my floors today:(

Knitting:

I have made a list of projects I have upcoming and now I just feel overwhelmed:(

I was working on the October Hat, but screwed up and had to rip out again. Maybe I had better put this to the side for a bit.

On the list:

Sweater test knit

Fix my coral sweater- wore it today and I want the sleeves longer

Socks for Jacqueline

Toque for Lyndsay

Toque for secretary’s daughter

Fix purple sweater – I want it skinnier and longer

October hat

Mitts out of Weekender leftovers

I know it’s all fun, but the length of the list makes me nervous. Now I just want to get them done and off the list!

Well that’s it for me today.

Have fun!

Monday Again?

How did that happen? My nephew said the other day that his summer had gone so quickly. I told him to just wait, it gets faster!

There was absolutely no exercise today, just lots of foam rolling to try and get my hip to loosen up. I’m hoping one more night on the heating pad will do it. I did mean to take an Epsom salts bath, but didn’t quite manage to get there.

House:

My job today was floors and I went at them bright and early. I got my kitchen, hallway and living room washed, the bathroom, bedroom and deck swept and the carpet vacuumed in under an hour. I was super happy with myself🤣

Reading:

I am now on the third book in the Blossom Street series by Debbie Macomber. So far I think I liked the first one best.

Knitting:

I have to admit that I have spent most of the day knitting. I have bound off the front of my sweater and am only six rows away from doing so on the back. I may just have a new sweater for the weekend.

Mail:

The final book I ordered came today. It is Living Freely Gluten Free by Jennifer Bigler. I think I will try one of the recipes out for Wednesday when I am seeing some friends.

Shopping:

With going back to school, I am really trying to get organized at home. Today I went to the mall to spend my David’s Tea gift card, but they are closed. I guess I’ll be buying very little online to get the gift card to cover the shipping as well.

I also looked for the containers we want for math manipulatives this year, but no luck with those either.

My luck improved when I stopped in the village. I had a gift card to the Tea and Paper Nook and found a very beautiful and expensive candle to buy. I have admired the smell of these candles before, but refused to pay the price. Well today they were on sale so my gift card covered the cost. It seemed like the perfect gift and I will enjoy smelling it:)

Well there’s my non exciting day for you.

Have fun!

A Finish!

I finally finished something. I really shouldn’t take on so many things at one time as there are other things I would like to be doing.

Exercise:

I finally found a decent route. It’s still hilly and has a giant hill at the end, but it’s a better length and I don’t feel like I’m suffering the whole time. I got 5.7km in. I then had to go over to the field and run 2km of laps to complete my Squad Runner mission. I didn’t feel bad for doing 7.7km today.

I got 20 minutes of yoga in and also did another NourishMoveLove workout this afternoon. I’ve been doing them off Instagram, but I think I’d better go find her website and see if she shows all the moves there.

Shopping:

My mom and I hit the dollar store for some kitchen essentials today. She says my dad isn’t great at this type of shopping so I think we’ll be doing more of it before I go home🤣

Knitting:

I finished my test knit for Josee Paquin today. The sweater is called Juliette and I really like it! It only took four days and is quite simple, but has sleeve detail that I like. The only change I would make would be to pick up more stitches around the neckline so it would be slightly looser in the neck. It will stretch out as I wear it though.

I will need to block it so that the bottom won’t flip. Josee designed it with no bottom edge, but I don’t like sweaters that flip so I put the same edging as the neck and sleeves on it.

I’m not sure how I’m going to block the sleeves so that the pattern will show nicely.

Baking:

The neighbour had brought my parents some peaches off his tree. I wanted to do muffins for them so that they can be frozen and so had to look up a recipe. I ended up making peach cobbler muffins from The Busy Baker. I forgot to put the oil in and didn’t put the topping on and they were still really good.

Perhaps not as good as the lemon zucchini muffins as there are still four left.

Mom and I had some quiet time this evening as my dad went to play horseshoes. I started my next sweater test knit and played some scrabble.

Reading:

I also finally finished my latest book. It was the second book in Lauren Layne’s Oxford series- I Wish You Were Mine. The writing was good and the characters were interesting, but I just didn’t love the premise so it was tough to get through it. I am going onto the third book in the series though.

Have fun!

The Usual With Company

I really do just do my usual stuff when visiting my parents, but here I have someone to talk to🤣

Exercise:

I had no intention of running this morning as I’ve ran the last four days, but then my mom asked me about it and I heard my dad assume I was already out running. I ended up going out. I was going to just go do a few laps around the field, but it was too busy so I ran to the end of the street and there was a hill. I ended up doing seven hill repeats and then heading home.

I guess it’s better than nothing is my theme today as my workout tonight was a Nourish Move Love workout off of Instagram. My SIL has told me about her and I was looking at her posts and liked her mantra- never miss a Monday, so I did a ten minute workout before crawling into bed.

Shopping:

I went with my parents this morning to do some returns in town. I then dragged my mom to a yarn shop.

Knitting:

I crazily accepted two test knits at once so I have been spending a lot of time knitting! I am about two inches from being done the first sweater and can’t wait to show it to you. I think it may become a favourite!

I picked up a dark blue Estelle worsted yarn for the second today and will hopefully start tomorrow.

Baking:

Even before I got here, my dad was asking for specific baked goods. Yesterday I made Rice pudding from the leftover dinner rice. My dad refuses to eat leftovers so I was attempting to find a way to get them eaten. It did work.

Today I started on the zucchini issue. I was going to make a traditional zucchini bread until I discovered my parents didn’t have a loaf pan. I decided to make these Lemon zucchini muffins. They were super easy to make and absolutely delicious. My dad is already asking for more and my mom wants me to skip the traditional loaf tomorrow and make this as a loaf.

It has been a pretty quiet day otherwise and I’m looking forward to another one tomorrow🤣

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday

Sorry I had a busy day yesterday and just collapsed when I got in.

Exercise:

I started the day with a hot, miserable 8.6km run with Dennis. We were on a well shaded path, but my heart rate was super high and my legs were sore and tired. I’ve decided to blame it on biking the day before🤣

Socializing:

After a coffee, a massage, and some household chores I met up with my friend Emily for some more furniture shopping. We managed to finish off the other side of the street. I did notice that you don’t really know how uncomfortable the couches are until you sit in a really comfortable one. I didn’t buy one, but think I know what store I would go back to now.

There is also an awesome fabric store on this street that my friend wanted to grab some stuff at. I had no needs, but came out with sale fabric for making myself a new tank top. It really drives me crazy how racerback tanks all have super big arm holes right now so you end up having to wear a layer underneath them (totally defeats the keep cool purpose), so o think I’m going to try to make one. I found a pattern online at Sew Much Ado. I hope it turns out! It’s been forever since I sewed clothes rather than quilts or mending.

Family:

I had to stop in and grab my parents’ mail for them so I took the opportunity to print the tank pattern on their printer and visit my aunt and uncle.

I do worry about being an asymptomatic carrier of Covid now when I visit with people, even outside. I don’t want to make anyone sick!

Trivia:

I finally did make it to trivia. There were only three of us and we finished the night in third so I think we did pretty good. Here are some of the questions. Usually I write them down, but now I can’t find them so there will be way less than we actually knew.

Where the did the male characters on Big Bang Theory work?

Cal Tech Univeristy

Spell Gandhi’s first name.

Mahatma

Which planet is sixth from the sun?

Saturn

What show is about advertising company in the 1960s?

Mad Men

What was the first Nancy Drew book called?

The Secret of the Old Clock

Well I had better get going on my day. Have fun!

AJ

Score!

I might have found the score of the summer today.

Exercise:

I started the day by going out for a run around the neighborhood. By the way everyone was staring at me, I don’t think many people run around here. I know why too- the whole town is hills! I got 6.10km in so just have to make sure that I do at least 3km tomorrow. I can’t believe I’m having trouble getting to 100k this month when so many months this year I’ve been doing about 150km. Oh well, I will try to get out again in the morning.

I had planned to do yoga, a walk and/or a workout too today, but didn’t get to it.

Family:

The guys in the family went out boating so us girls hung out. We started by checking out a store that is closing down in town. I was really upset because I’ve had luck with shoes there the past couple of summers.

We had to go in one at a time and my mom and SIL sent me in first because I take the longest to make decisions. This time there were no decisions to make- I just took them all:)

There’s no way I can resist Birkenstock’s at that good of a price! I have enough for life now!

The rest of the day was just spent hanging out chatting.

My dad got clams and crabs for dinner. I’m not sure whether it was the sun or the clams, but I was too sick to eat crab 😥😰😱. I’ll have to make up for it at breakfast!

I’m off to sleep off whatever is wrong with me.

Have fun!

Purple Day

Why does everyday bring questions and no answers???

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis and we did a rerun of a run we tried to do a couple of weeks ago but abandoned because it was too busy. Today was much better, especially after my legs loosened up at 4km. I dropped about 30 seconds per kilometer after that. I am finding that my runs are way harder lately and I’m not as fast. I’ve been reading and it seems like this might be a side effect of trying to lose weight. Hopefully it won’t last forever and I can go back to being faster.

This evening I tried to do a workout, but only managed seven minutes when I realized I just wasn’t into it tonight. I’ll try to make up for it on Sunday.

Teaching:

It was a quieter day as all I had to do was check work on the three different platforms. It’s a good thing because I came home from my run to a power outage.

I listened to the premier speak and though he said we would be going back to school on June 1st, there were still no details of how this is going to work. For the month of June it is voluntary whether kids come to school which means I have to teach online and in class. I’m really not sure how this is going to work:(. All I know so far is that I don’t think anyone who works with six year olds is making the decisions!😖🙄

Shopping:

I probably shouldn’t be allowed out of the house alone with my Visa card. Lately I’ve been finding that I need more water as my runs get warmer and longer. My hydration pack is about fifteen years old and doesn’t owe me anything. I was looking for a cheap pack online, but ended up buying a new one at my local running store. I really do prefer to support local when I can.

My new, very purple Nathan hydration pack. I’m going to look interesting when I wear red!

Reading:

I finally finished one of my current books. I had been listening to Born To Run by Christopher MacDougall. It was a super interesting book that took a lot of different elements and connected them through the story of a race. It was great, though I think it would be better to listen to it than read it.

Socializing:

I had my usual Friday teacher meet up in a local park. It was definitely busier than it has been in the past. It was nice to catch up and our friend Cori joined us today too. It’s nice to not feel alone in this craziness!

Knitting:

I finally finished my newest sweater tonight. It is the Seraphina sweater by Irina Anikeeva, available on Ravelry. The shoulders are the most complicated part of the sweater and after that it is good social knitting. The yarn I used was a new to me yarn called Gathering Yarn: The Harvest is Here. I like the colour of the yarn, but found it to be quite splitty.

Well that’s the end of my purple day!

Have fun!

AJ

Ugh Not Again!

It was a pretty good day:)

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis to do another part of the dyke. I thought we would do five km out and five back, but his knee was bugging him so we turned at 2.75km. We still made 5.4km so that’s perfectly fine with me. I was surprised that this part of the dyke was actually much closer to the part we regularly run than I was expecting. Nice to know that I could do a giant loop if I ever felt like it:)

This evening I just did a few an exercises as my body wasn’t feeling up for much.

Teaching:

Today again felt a little bit calmer. I checked work that was submitted and planned with Liane for next week. We are hoping that now that we know how to copy lessons to each other, the prep process will go much faster. I guess we shall see over tomorrow and Thursday.

Medical:

I had called my doctor to see if I should go for my standing lab tests and she said yes. I kept an eye on the app and went just before lunch when the wait was only twelve minutes. My results are already in and once again I have a low platelet count and a low iron count. That iron infusion didn’t even last me three months. So I guess I’ll be dealing with the low iron thing again. Hopefully I get an infusion before I’m crazy low again. Everyone keeps asking how I feel, but I’m the last person to ask that as (my mom will tell you) I just keep pushing to do everything no matter how I feel🤣. The worst part of the iron test, other than the results, is how much my arm hurts afterwards!

Knitting:

I finally got one shoulder done! 🎊🎉. Tomorrow I will start on the other. The pattern repeat is getting slightly easier though I definitely have to concentrate or else I end up having to tink:(

Games:

My friend introduced me to Scrabble Go today and boy is it fun!!

Eating:

I had away better eating day today and I think it’s because I thought it out last night. I’ll have to continue to do that!

Shopping:

I gave in and did some online shopping tonight. I got a bicycle tire pump and some Nuun andHobey Stingers for running. Really exciting, huh🤣🤣. It is amazing g how quickly you can spend money online though!!

Well I’m going to go curl up with a book.

Have fun!

My Weekend

I just realized I forgot to post about my actual activities last night. I went to bed early but unfortunately didn’t sleep well.😖

Exercise:

Saturday morning I ran a new part of the dyke with Dennis. This is the part I had been curious about. We started out and figured we would do 5-8km. It was spitting rain, but nothing too bad. We hit the next major road in 4.47km and Dennis suggested going back on the other side of the dyke. We walked the bridge and started back. This side was fun to run as while the first side was super smooth and compacted, the second side was like a goat track. I had to watch my footing so it took my mind off the fact I was running. We were about 2km from the end when I saw Dennis stop in front of me. It took me a moment to realize he had stopped because there was a canal offshoot of the river that went right and we couldn’t get across it. We had to turn around and run the whole way back, and of course it was sleeting by this point. Instead of a lovely 5-8km, we did 15.55km. It wasn’t always fun, but I maintained a pace under 7min/km and it was probably a good thing as if he had asked if I wanted to go 15km, the answer would have been no, but obviously I can do it:)

That was my only exercise on Saturday, but on Sunday I got a 5km brisk walk in with my running buddies, a 25 minute yoga session and a workout.

For the workout I did another of the 10 Pounds Shred workouts. I did 3 sets of 40 seconds of the following:

Skipping (actually 2 mins each time)

Superman’s on SB

Squats

Spider-Man pushups

Skaters

Deadlifts

Reverse crunches

SB hamstrung curls

I feel like I did enough this weekend!

Shopping:

On Saturday I headed downtown to spend time with one of my oldest friends. We walked across the bridge from her place and spent five hours browsing through the shops on Granville street- mostly furniture but with a few clothing stores and an Indigo stop as well. It was an awesome time as she is easy to be with and it was nice to catch up. We laughed cause it was a beautiful day, but when we came out after lunch it was sunny and hailing at the same time!

Eating:

We went to an awesome restaurant downtown called Heirloom. This is the second time I have been here and I’ve enjoyed it both times. It is a vegetarian/ vegan restaurant so it cuts down a lot of the worries for me. I was super excited when I saw I could have a soup and sandwich. I decided on tomato soup and grilled cheese. YUM!!! It was so good!

I figured after 15km I could afford the grilled cheese indulgence. Next time though, I’ll eat less as I learned they had three desserts I could have enjoyed!

Knitting:

On Sunday I spent most of the day knitting on my sweater. I had to rip out what I had done during the week as it was way too big. I found a pattern in a book I owned called a top down yoke sweater in a child’s size. So far it has been super easy to follow. Now I just have to hope it fits and blocks out nicely. I am using handspun from my stash and the yarn is all thick and thin, but some of it is thinner than I was expecting:(

Well there’s my weekend in a nutshell- it was a good balance of out and in:)

Have fun!

AJ

Hip Hip Hooray

It was such fun to have my mom home. We never do anything super exciting, but it’s just nice to hang out with her.

Financial:

I went downtown this morning and met my new financial advisor and liked him. He did a pretty good job of making financial items simple so I could understand them. Hopefully I will now not have to think about my money!

Eating:

Well it was an interesting eating day. 1/2 a banana, 1/2 an order of fish and chips and 2 cupcakes. Lol it was definitely a super yummy eating day🤣

Shopping:

My mom said she needed new running shoes and I probably should have run for the hills screaming as I always spend too much money in there. I did find a new water bottle which will hopefully not leak on me. Also two pairs of my favourite running shoes were there in my size, though I swear they had discontinued them! I don’t get it, but I bought them both quickly?!! I also got myself a new smartwool running shirt as I wear my old one continuously!!! I never regret a smartwool purchase as I wear it to work to keep warm too.

I had my car checked out. The problem is the knock sensors which I just had replaced last summer, so I may need to start looking for a new vehicle. Ugh another thing I don’t like doing!

I also got a haircut and ran through Costco. I managed to spend money in Costco but didn’t come home with any food. 🤔. I’m sure I’ll regret that later in the week, but oh well, what can I say, I was still full from lunch.

Blogging:

After talking with my mom I have decided to stick with this blog but start deleting old pictures. I took advantage of her WiFi and I got rid of a ton of old food pictures so that I will have room to show you new things. I think this is going to be my new plan going forward. I can include any photos I want with the idea that they will only be there until I need room. Now it’s just too bad that I don’t have any photos from today to share🤣

Knitting:

Since getting home I have managed to successfully knit the first twenty three rows of the Date Night sweater 🎊🎉. This is a much better start:)

Well I need sleep as I’m running early tomorrow morning.

Have fun!

AJ
