Score!

I might have found the score of the summer today.

Exercise:

I started the day by going out for a run around the neighborhood. By the way everyone was staring at me, I don’t think many people run around here. I know why too- the whole town is hills! I got 6.10km in so just have to make sure that I do at least 3km tomorrow. I can’t believe I’m having trouble getting to 100k this month when so many months this year I’ve been doing about 150km. Oh well, I will try to get out again in the morning.

I had planned to do yoga, a walk and/or a workout too today, but didn’t get to it.

Family:

The guys in the family went out boating so us girls hung out. We started by checking out a store that is closing down in town. I was really upset because I’ve had luck with shoes there the past couple of summers.

We had to go in one at a time and my mom and SIL sent me in first because I take the longest to make decisions. This time there were no decisions to make- I just took them all:)

There’s no way I can resist Birkenstock’s at that good of a price! I have enough for life now!

The rest of the day was just spent hanging out chatting.

My dad got clams and crabs for dinner. I’m not sure whether it was the sun or the clams, but I was too sick to eat crab 😥😰😱. I’ll have to make up for it at breakfast!

I’m off to sleep off whatever is wrong with me.

Have fun!

Purple Day

Why does everyday bring questions and no answers???

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis and we did a rerun of a run we tried to do a couple of weeks ago but abandoned because it was too busy. Today was much better, especially after my legs loosened up at 4km. I dropped about 30 seconds per kilometer after that. I am finding that my runs are way harder lately and I’m not as fast. I’ve been reading and it seems like this might be a side effect of trying to lose weight. Hopefully it won’t last forever and I can go back to being faster.

This evening I tried to do a workout, but only managed seven minutes when I realized I just wasn’t into it tonight. I’ll try to make up for it on Sunday.

Teaching:

It was a quieter day as all I had to do was check work on the three different platforms. It’s a good thing because I came home from my run to a power outage.

I listened to the premier speak and though he said we would be going back to school on June 1st, there were still no details of how this is going to work. For the month of June it is voluntary whether kids come to school which means I have to teach online and in class. I’m really not sure how this is going to work:(. All I know so far is that I don’t think anyone who works with six year olds is making the decisions!😖🙄

Shopping:

I probably shouldn’t be allowed out of the house alone with my Visa card. Lately I’ve been finding that I need more water as my runs get warmer and longer. My hydration pack is about fifteen years old and doesn’t owe me anything. I was looking for a cheap pack online, but ended up buying a new one at my local running store. I really do prefer to support local when I can.

My new, very purple Nathan hydration pack. I’m going to look interesting when I wear red!

Reading:

I finally finished one of my current books. I had been listening to Born To Run by Christopher MacDougall. It was a super interesting book that took a lot of different elements and connected them through the story of a race. It was great, though I think it would be better to listen to it than read it.

Socializing:

I had my usual Friday teacher meet up in a local park. It was definitely busier than it has been in the past. It was nice to catch up and our friend Cori joined us today too. It’s nice to not feel alone in this craziness!

Knitting:

I finally finished my newest sweater tonight. It is the Seraphina sweater by Irina Anikeeva, available on Ravelry. The shoulders are the most complicated part of the sweater and after that it is good social knitting. The yarn I used was a new to me yarn called Gathering Yarn: The Harvest is Here. I like the colour of the yarn, but found it to be quite splitty.

Well that’s the end of my purple day!

Have fun!

AJ

Ugh Not Again!

It was a pretty good day:)

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis to do another part of the dyke. I thought we would do five km out and five back, but his knee was bugging him so we turned at 2.75km. We still made 5.4km so that’s perfectly fine with me. I was surprised that this part of the dyke was actually much closer to the part we regularly run than I was expecting. Nice to know that I could do a giant loop if I ever felt like it:)

This evening I just did a few an exercises as my body wasn’t feeling up for much.

Teaching:

Today again felt a little bit calmer. I checked work that was submitted and planned with Liane for next week. We are hoping that now that we know how to copy lessons to each other, the prep process will go much faster. I guess we shall see over tomorrow and Thursday.

Medical:

I had called my doctor to see if I should go for my standing lab tests and she said yes. I kept an eye on the app and went just before lunch when the wait was only twelve minutes. My results are already in and once again I have a low platelet count and a low iron count. That iron infusion didn’t even last me three months. So I guess I’ll be dealing with the low iron thing again. Hopefully I get an infusion before I’m crazy low again. Everyone keeps asking how I feel, but I’m the last person to ask that as (my mom will tell you) I just keep pushing to do everything no matter how I feel🤣. The worst part of the iron test, other than the results, is how much my arm hurts afterwards!

Knitting:

I finally got one shoulder done! 🎊🎉. Tomorrow I will start on the other. The pattern repeat is getting slightly easier though I definitely have to concentrate or else I end up having to tink:(

Games:

My friend introduced me to Scrabble Go today and boy is it fun!!

Eating:

I had away better eating day today and I think it’s because I thought it out last night. I’ll have to continue to do that!

Shopping:

I gave in and did some online shopping tonight. I got a bicycle tire pump and some Nuun andHobey Stingers for running. Really exciting, huh🤣🤣. It is amazing g how quickly you can spend money online though!!

Well I’m going to go curl up with a book.

Have fun!

AJ

My Weekend

I just realized I forgot to post about my actual activities last night. I went to bed early but unfortunately didn’t sleep well.😖

Exercise:

Saturday morning I ran a new part of the dyke with Dennis. This is the part I had been curious about. We started out and figured we would do 5-8km. It was spitting rain, but nothing too bad. We hit the next major road in 4.47km and Dennis suggested going back on the other side of the dyke. We walked the bridge and started back. This side was fun to run as while the first side was super smooth and compacted, the second side was like a goat track. I had to watch my footing so it took my mind off the fact I was running. We were about 2km from the end when I saw Dennis stop in front of me. It took me a moment to realize he had stopped because there was a canal offshoot of the river that went right and we couldn’t get across it. We had to turn around and run the whole way back, and of course it was sleeting by this point. Instead of a lovely 5-8km, we did 15.55km. It wasn’t always fun, but I maintained a pace under 7min/km and it was probably a good thing as if he had asked if I wanted to go 15km, the answer would have been no, but obviously I can do it:)

That was my only exercise on Saturday, but on Sunday I got a 5km brisk walk in with my running buddies, a 25 minute yoga session and a workout.

For the workout I did another of the 10 Pounds Shred workouts. I did 3 sets of 40 seconds of the following:

Skipping (actually 2 mins each time)

Superman’s on SB

Squats

Spider-Man pushups

Skaters

Deadlifts

Reverse crunches

SB hamstrung curls

I feel like I did enough this weekend!

Shopping:

On Saturday I headed downtown to spend time with one of my oldest friends. We walked across the bridge from her place and spent five hours browsing through the shops on Granville street- mostly furniture but with a few clothing stores and an Indigo stop as well. It was an awesome time as she is easy to be with and it was nice to catch up. We laughed cause it was a beautiful day, but when we came out after lunch it was sunny and hailing at the same time!

Eating:

We went to an awesome restaurant downtown called Heirloom. This is the second time I have been here and I’ve enjoyed it both times. It is a vegetarian/ vegan restaurant so it cuts down a lot of the worries for me. I was super excited when I saw I could have a soup and sandwich. I decided on tomato soup and grilled cheese. YUM!!! It was so good!

I figured after 15km I could afford the grilled cheese indulgence. Next time though, I’ll eat less as I learned they had three desserts I could have enjoyed!

Knitting:

On Sunday I spent most of the day knitting on my sweater. I had to rip out what I had done during the week as it was way too big. I found a pattern in a book I owned called a top down yoke sweater in a child’s size. So far it has been super easy to follow. Now I just have to hope it fits and blocks out nicely. I am using handspun from my stash and the yarn is all thick and thin, but some of it is thinner than I was expecting:(

Well there’s my weekend in a nutshell- it was a good balance of out and in:)

Have fun!

AJ

Hip Hip Hooray

It was such fun to have my mom home. We never do anything super exciting, but it’s just nice to hang out with her.

Financial:

I went downtown this morning and met my new financial advisor and liked him. He did a pretty good job of making financial items simple so I could understand them. Hopefully I will now not have to think about my money!

Eating:

Well it was an interesting eating day. 1/2 a banana, 1/2 an order of fish and chips and 2 cupcakes. Lol it was definitely a super yummy eating day🤣

Shopping:

My mom said she needed new running shoes and I probably should have run for the hills screaming as I always spend too much money in there. I did find a new water bottle which will hopefully not leak on me. Also two pairs of my favourite running shoes were there in my size, though I swear they had discontinued them! I don’t get it, but I bought them both quickly?!! I also got myself a new smartwool running shirt as I wear my old one continuously!!! I never regret a smartwool purchase as I wear it to work to keep warm too.

I had my car checked out. The problem is the knock sensors which I just had replaced last summer, so I may need to start looking for a new vehicle. Ugh another thing I don’t like doing!

I also got a haircut and ran through Costco. I managed to spend money in Costco but didn’t come home with any food. 🤔. I’m sure I’ll regret that later in the week, but oh well, what can I say, I was still full from lunch.

Blogging:

After talking with my mom I have decided to stick with this blog but start deleting old pictures. I took advantage of her WiFi and I got rid of a ton of old food pictures so that I will have room to show you new things. I think this is going to be my new plan going forward. I can include any photos I want with the idea that they will only be there until I need room. Now it’s just too bad that I don’t have any photos from today to share🤣

Knitting:

Since getting home I have managed to successfully knit the first twenty three rows of the Date Night sweater 🎊🎉. This is a much better start:)

Well I need sleep as I’m running early tomorrow morning.

Have fun!

AJ

Meeting For a Run Is The Best Way

It was an incredibly quiet day! I didn’t even get out of my pajamas until 1:45pm!

Knitting:

I spent this morning finishing off the scarf I had started last night. It actually turned into a cowl as it wasn’t very long. It will be nice and warm for someone though. It was just thirty stitches and knit each row, made with Wendy wool.

Reading:

I have been reading Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore. This is the first book of the year for the Not Your Mom’s Romance Bookclub and I have to admit I wasn’t super excited to read it by the back cover description. It was available from my library online though so I figured I would try it. I have been really enjoying it. It’s about one of the first women to attend Oxford and she is on scholarship from the Suffragette league so must help with their cause. She’s assigned to convince the most powerful duke to support the cause. It’s been a very cute historical so far.

Exercise:

This afternoon I did another Hallmark Christmas movie workout. I watched Christmas Under the Stars which was just okay and then did a workout. I did a minute of jogging in between: 10 reverse lunges per leg, 35 crunches, 25 jacks, 5 burpees, 10 squats, 10 plié squats, 5 dips, 5 mountain climbers per leg, 10 pushups, 15 curtsy lunges per leg, 5 high knees per leg.

The movie didn’t seem super Christmassy and I think the low numbers in this workout prove that.

This evening, after a lovely nap, I met up with the Thursday night group for a run. It was a good thing I had committed to meeting people as there is no way I would have gone otherwise! We did 4.57km and I felt like I was running fast, but I really wasn’t and was actually running slower than usual:(

Shopping:

I stopped at Chapters on the way home to grab gifts for my friend’s sons whom I will see tomorrow. I had started the older son on a Robert Munsch collection and so this time got him More Pies which is set in Vancouver. I’m starting the younger son on a Dr. Seuss collection so this time he got Fox in Socks.

I always think starting a book collection for kids makes gift buying easier!

I also got them playdo and kinetic sand to go with the books.

Well I’m going to go finish my book.

Have fun!

AJ

Shopping, shopping, shopping…

Well I bought lots today, now I just need the motivation to use it all.

I spent the morning figuring out my running stats for the past year. I am happy with the fact that my faster runs have gotten faster:) I am forgiving myself for not having my average pace continue to improve as I see I started slowing g down in September which is about when I started feeling really tired. Hopefully my iron infusions starting this week will help solve this problem, and I’ll become rocket fast (🤪🤣 or at least continue to slowly improve).

Shopping:

My friend Allison has told me about a kids consignment store yesterday at brunch so this morning I called to see if they were open. They were and the woman was even kind enough to check to see if they had my favourite exercise brand in stock.

I grabbed my mom and set off. Not For Long in Surrey was an awesome kids consignment store. It was bright, well organized and the clerk was super helpful without being pushy or in the way. The prices were very reasonable and they had a good selection of both new and used. It was a very fun time and I came out with:

2 short sleeved running shirts

6 running tanks

2 sweaters

1 pair of running tights

2 long sleeves running jackets

And all for a price I was willing to pay:)

It was a long drive there and back so mom and I shared fish and chips at the pub.

Of course the pub is right across the square from the running store so I had to look in there as I missed the big Boxing Day sale as I was away. I guess sometimes it’s good to be a weird size as I found a new pair of running shoes, two running tanks (I’ve never regretted any Smartwool purchase), a long sleeved warm jacket and a cute dry fit dress.

I definitely needed to go home and put my Visa card away!!! Though thankfully I used up a few gift cards at the running store:)

Knitting:

I have spent the evening finishing off my last two market bags. I got them done and this allowed me to make my goal of knitting projects for the year🎉🎊

There will be a craft review post tomorrow:)

Exercise:

I did finally do another Hallmark workout this evening which puts me up to date and will allow me to binge watch some more tomorrow.

I did: 10 reverse lunges per leg, 35 crunches, 35 dips, 25 jacks, 20 squats, 35 plié squats, 10 curtsy lunges, 5 burpees and 15 high knees per side. I also did a minute of toe taps in between each exercise.

It did drive me a little crazy not to run today, but I don’t want to make a lie of my stats, so no running until Wednesday!

Well I’m going to go try to determine my next knitting project.

Have fun!

AJ

Grateful Sunday

It was a really good day and so nice to be home I’m familiar ground again. I didn’t realize how tense I was just driving when I had no idea where I was going and was in an unfamiliar car.

Grateful: For the opportunity and resources to be able to have a family Christmas vacation and all that family time.

Grateful: for a comfortable home that makes me happy and safe.

Exercise:

I finally got back to normal! I met up with my regular running buddies Brenda, Sarah and Dennis. James couldn’t join us as he dell off his roof and hurt himself. I can’t wait to hear this story!

We did a run of the river and it was great that Sarah came along so I had someone to run with and yet Dennis got a good run in:). It wasn’t super busy and it didn’t rain so definitely a win win!

The river on a Fall day.

I did meet my goal today so there will be a running review up tomorrow, but I was disappointed that RunKeeper doesn’t celebrate meeting a goal at all- the goal just disappears:(

Grateful: For all my awesome running buddies.

Grateful: For the animals in my life that provide me with lots of cuddles. Kula was a smuggler today:)

Friendship/ Eating:

I ran home and cleaned up and then met up with a couple of friends for brunch. It was Allison’s last day in town so I was happy to get one more meetup. We went to Wendel’s in Fort Langley. This place is always super busy! I got there early and had a few minutes to peruse the bookstore part of the establishment. Lots of cool knitting books, but all too expensive:(

I had three choices for brunch and went with the avocado Benny which as my mom says was just avocado and eggs on gf toast along with some tomatoes. It was still super yummy though!

We then wandered the Main Street and through the grocery store where I picked up a few gf/df treats.

Grateful: for friends who are easy to be with no matter how long it’s been:)

Grateful: to live in a place where there are options for me when I go out:)

Shopping:

I grabbed my mom and hot Costco for gas and food. My dad has given me the idea of buying steak at Costco and just freezing it for my regular Sunday lunch as this way I would be able to afford better steak. I ended up with steak, shrimp, yogurt and cucumbers. It’s going to be interesting meals, but I never know if I should bother shopping when I’m on holidays as it always seems like I’m out a lot. We shall see, but hopefully I didn’t waste my money.

We carried on to the clothing store where I immediately found the red winter wool jacket I had wanted. It must have been my day for red as i also found a red and white striped shirt and a red sweater. Now I just have to get rid of a few things from my wardrobe to make room for this new stuff! One of my goals on this week off is to get all my closets tidied and everything entered into my app.

Grateful: to have my mom for company as I was running errands. It makes the tedious time go so much quicker.

Grateful: to have made peace with my body so that I can feel comfortable wearing bright colours. I know I’m not perfect at this, but I’m a whole lot better than I used to be!

Reading/ Listening:

I listened to another episode of the Not Your Mom’s aromanxw book club podcast and found another book I want to read. I’ve decided that I’m still going to read lots of romance next year, but I will try for one non fiction book a month.

Grateful: for this podcast that keeps me entertained while I knit tedious sections.

Grateful: for the variety and number of books I have available to me!

Movies:

I rewatched Write Vefore Christmas as I hadn’t managed to do a workout to this movie the first time i watched it. I really enjoyed this book and it reminded me of Love Actually with its multiple story lines.

I ended up doing a 17:30 workout with a minute of jogging between moves. I did: 30 reverse lunges, 37 crunches, 37 reverse crunches, 5 pushups, 20 jacks, 5 burpees, 25 curtsy lunges, 10 high knees, 25 squats, 15 plié squats.

I know it’s not a ton, but I figure it has to be better than nothing! I’m thinking that I’d like to come up with a similar workout for non Christmas hallmark movies that I could do throughout the next year. If anyone has ideas of elements that are in lots of Hallmark movies, please let me know:)

Grateful: for hallmark that produces feel good movies

Grateful: for the clever person that came up with the hallmark workout so I can combine two of my favourite things and not feel guilty about sitting watching a movie.

Eating:

Not fabulous, but not as horrible as lately. I think I will still give myself a couple of days before I get on the scale.

I had: half a tortilla with peanut butter, the avocado and egg on toast, shrimp plate,1/3 of ginger cookie, 1/3 of chocolate chip cookie ( neither were very good) and 1/2 of peanut butter bar ( delicious)!

Well I’m off to start a new book.

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday #35

Sorry for no post yesterday. The day was normal, but then I went downtown and went for dinner at Nightingale. It was fabulous! I have never had a restaurant do such a thorough and great job about my allergies. The food was amazing! We shared roasted cauliflower, roasted Brussels sprouts, Arctic char and then I had carrot cake for dessert. I would highly recommend this restaurant as it is fancy enough for a Christmas gathering or a special event, but not hoity toity or snooty.

ok today..

Teaching:

We literally spent the entire day working on and finishing our parent gifts, but they did finally go home with the children today!

I also spoke with two more parents about the report cards so at least I’ve spoken with four parents. That should mean I shouldn’t have any more than 18 emails to come back to!

Medical:

I went to meet a new doctor today and was super pleased. Hopefully everything comes through. She has ordered three more iron infusions for me, and another blood test as my platelet levels were low. I hope I get one more infusion before I leave, but I somehow doubt it:(

Knitting:

I am furiously trying to get another market bag done for Thursday, but I’m not sure it’s going to happen:(

Shopping:

I was right by the mall so grabbed two new pairs of jeans, though I wish I had taken someone else with me and that I had tried on more styles. I really shouldn’t be trying to do anything with this foggy brain!

Blogmas:

Thanks Abbey for making me think about things I just take for granted. Lol our tree skirt growing up was an old red piece of fabric that was raw edges and all. I have no idea where it came from, but it survived as our tree skirt for my entire childhood. I dream of cross-stitching a fancy tree skirt, but always decide not to bother as I rarely put up a tree🤣

Trivia:

Tradition Maintained

For the past few years, a colleague and I have made our way out to the Olde Farmhouse Vintage Market and we did so again today.

Shopping:

I picked my friend up and we hit the road and then spent four hours looking through the vendors at the market. I loved all the Christmas items on display, but I just don’t have a big enough house for all that! Most of the things they were calling vintage were items I grew up using!! Some I even still have!! I spent a lot of time being shocked at what people were charging for their handknitted items. The friend I was with has been saying for a while that I should sell what I make, but I’m just not good at that part! I just donated all of my extra knit goods to the holiday market at school which is a fundraiser for sports supplies.

I ended up buying a few more reusable snack bags as I get lots of use out of these. I also got a smaller version of the microwave bowl holder as I use my big one a lot. Finally I got a new flannel blanket just like the one I had as a kid, and for only $12!

It was a fun day with a friend, but I was happy to come home to my couch too!

Knitting:

I have spent the evening restarting my mommy daughter hat as my yarn kept breaking:(. It is going slightly faster this time, though I am writing right now because I just messed up a row and need to redo it.

I also finally got the handle sewn onto my newest market bag.

This is the free Miss Carlotta pattern on Ravelry done in Berroco Indigo yarn in black. It is a true black- just a bad photo. I have to admit this is probably my least favourite bag so far.

I also finally got a picture taken of the shawl I have made for my friend. Again a bad, nighttime photo but here it is…This is the Triple Jubilee shawl which is also free on ravelry and it was done in Shi Bui Pebble in the colour brownstone. I just hope she likes it!

Eating:

I had a rice cake split between Pb & cheese and Pb & jam this morning.

A mini kind bar for snack.

I was amazed they had a quinoa salad I could eat at the convention centre.

Then this evening I had a salad with salmon and balsamic dressing.

And lots of tea as it has turned cold and rainy here!

Movies:

I watched another Hallmark movie this evening called Winter Love Story. It was super cute and had good banter in it.

Well I’m going back to the hat!

Have fun!
