T-1

The winter break is almost here. I just have to get through one more day with crazy excited children.

Teaching:

We planned the first week back this morning and I prepped on my break. We got through our art scrapbook gluing. We actually rushed because we were supposed to have a fire drill at 11:50, but as we were waiting for it to go off, I got told that it had been cancelled. Of course that was only communicated through an email at 11, while I was teaching😖😖😖. Incompetence drives me crazy!

This afternoon the kids had a great time! Our STEM challenge this month was to build the tallest “tree” possible with 15 cups. The kids were so engaged!! I loved watching them persevere and try different things as they got three tries. There were no tears this time so I think we’re making progress!

Socializing:

After work I went out with Lyndsay and Cori and it was nice to unwind and catch up away from work.

Blogmas:

Would you rather eat gingerbread every day or candy canes every day?

Hmm this is tough, as gingerbread would be great for my tummy but might feel heavy really quick, but candy canes would be great for my breath but might get old quickly. I think I would go with candy canes because there are so many different flavors of them now!

Have fun!

Weekend Wrap Up

It was a nice, relaxing weekend:)

Exercise:

I ran both mornings. On Saturday, Dennis and I did an 8km run out on the dukes. It was a tough run for me as I was sore from my workout on Thursday. My legs were incredibly stiff and sore! The highlight of the run was seeing three eagles- two were fighting in the air and one was eating on shore. It was awesome to see!

This morning I did another 8km with Sarah along a different dyke. This run felt much better, but that may be due to the slower pace.

We got lucky both days with gorgeous weather!

This afternoon I re-did the workout I did Thursday- NourishMoveLove’s 30 minute full body circuit workout. I figure I had better redo it until it no longer hurts.

Knitting:

I spent a lot of the weekend knitting. It was lovely and relaxing and quite productive. I finished the toque for my secretary’s daughter.

This is the Antler Toque from TinCanKnits. I love their patterns- easy to follow and I like how the pattern includes all the sizes. I used the Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn in black so that it is teenager friendly and washable.

Today, I finished a toque for Lyndsay. I used the Mother-Daughter toque pattern from Zanete Knits. I have made this pattern before with Regia sock yarn and Lyndsay liked it. I couldn’t find Regia sock yarn, so I used Patons Kroy sock yarn. I did the pattern exactly the same, but unfortunately it came out much thicker and smaller. This is definitely more of a beanie. I will take both the original and the new one to school tomorrow and Lyndsay can choose.

Reading:

I love the Heartbreak Bay series from Jill Shalvis and have been reading Wrapped Up In You. I usually gobble up Jill Shalvis, but I’m having a tougher time with this. It’s not the writing- it’s the fact that there is tension and a bad guy. I just find I can’t read anything right now that isn’t super fluffy and happy.

Socializing:

I met up with Lyndsay this morning at the farmer’s market. This is definitely a good social event for right now- outside, not too crowded and mask friendly. We looked around and I tried a pork bun and a cranberry cookie that were both wonderful!

Lyndsay had said a few weeks ago that I had plans for next weekend, and she finally explained today. She had planned that her, another friend and I would go downtown to the spa, go out for dinner, spend the night at a hotel and then go for a run on the seawall in the morning, followed by brunch and shopping. Unfortunately our latest restrictions put this plan out of order, so she has simplified it.

Lyndsay will go for a run with me next Saturday, followed by brunch and then later in the day, I will be picked up for a local adventure.

I can’t believe what sweet friends I have! It means so much that they made plans for us! Now I have to come up with where to run!!!

Well, other than that I have put up lights in my bedroom, and did laundry. Lol not very exciting.

Have fun!

Weekend Wrap Up

Well here it is Sunday evening and tomorrow is back to reality.

Saturday:

I spent the morning tidying my house in case I had guests later in the day. I realized why I prefer reading and knitting over cleaning. If you read a book, it stays read. If you knit a sweater, it stays knit, but when you clean, you just end up having to clean again. Already my place could use some straightening🙄

Exercise:

I did a short interval workout yesterday and then hiked for a couple of hours with some friends. It was really nice to be out in nature with company!

Socializing:

We spent some time on the patios of a couple of local restaurants. I was super cold so I ordered blueberry tea and my friends were teasing me until it came and they tried it. This is definitely my winter drink of choice- regular tea mixed with Amaretto and Grand Marnier. It is very yummy as you drink it through a cinnamon stick:)

I was home early, but it was still really nice to have some time with friends as that doesn’t happen a lot right now.

Sunday:

Exercise:

Today started with my regular 10km run. Sarah was back with me today as her soccer is cancelled with the further restrictions we were put under yesterday. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning for a run, but super cold! I wore two wool shirts and wool vest!

This afternoon I did another short workout with the weights. Figured I might as well get it in as I won’t be doing anything tomorrow.

Shopping:

After a quick tea with the group, I stopped at the store for fruits, veggies and meat. I spent this afternoon roasting all of the veggies.

Eating:

I’ve had a lot of people raving about this Veg Out Food Truck lately. They specialize in vegan burgers and milkshakes. I had heard really good things about the chicken burger. Well they were across the street from my house so I decided this was probably the best time to try them. I waited forty-five minutes only to find out I wasn’t allowed the chicken burger because it’s not gluten free. I could only have their classic burger. It was good, but really nothing spectacular and I am now kicking myself for wasting those calories!

Knitting:

I have decided on the October hat from Kelbourne Woolens as I have made the June hat and it appeals to me to have a different hat for each month. I got the brim done and wrote out the pattern (as I hate working from charts), but then screwed up on the fourth row of the pattern. Since I have to rip out I think I’m going to decrease the amount of brim down to 2.5″. Right now it’s about 4″(supposed to be 5), but since I’m holding the yarn doubled it’s thick and squishy and I don’t think I’ll need to fold over the brim.

Movies;

I am starting early with the Christmas movies as I just watched the Hallmark, A Royal Christmas. It was very cute. My favourite moment was when the royals all come up with a reason to delay leaving. It doesn’t hurt that it has not one, but two gorgeous guys in it😜

Well I’m going back to my book for a bit.

Have fun!

Out Of There

We had plans after school and we’re out of there by 3:15🤣

Teaching:

It was a good day. I am very thankful for having a good class with all the other craziness going on! We did calendar and then went out to do the Terry Fox run. I felt sad about the fact the kids only got to do 20 minutes of running around the field by themselves:(. So different than the usual, fun run!

After recess we tried out having a quiet time where the kids could eat and then do something at their seats. I liked it because I got their Fall leaves cut out and put up on the window.

We tackled our math number booklets and most finished. My one little guy who has trouble focusing has embraced using a timer and actually lots of kids wanted to set a goal for what they could get done in five minutes.

Finally this afternoon we did silent reading, a Fall poem, and played outside.

A pretty good day all in all and we were out the door quickly:)

Socializing:

It was Lyndsay’s birthday yesterday so we wanted to take her for a drink. We went up to the golf course again and it was crazy busy! We managed to have a quick drink and some chicken wings and nachos (shared five ways). It was a great start to the weekend!

Exercise:

Dennis thought I was insane to plan a run after happy hour, but I need to make up for September. I will have a Run to Rapid City update out this weekend, I promise!

Our run today seemed tough, but I guess that’s just because I was running faster than I have been lately. It really did feel good to put some speed on (or my version of speed🤣). We got 7km done and the last kilometer coming down hill was super fun!

Well I got a load of laundry put in, so I guess I can say my house chore got done today. I will have to find time to change my sheets tomorrow as that is the one chore I didn’t get done this week. Not bad:)

Have fun!

In a New Place

Well I have yet again hanged locations, but this one is only about fifteen minutes from home. I am dog and house sitting for my brother.

I had to cancel my run yesterday on Dennis as I really didn’t think my hip was going to make it. It was a little sore while walking the dog right now, but it seems to have gotten to the point where it loosens up once it’s warmed up- let’s hope I run this afternoon!

Baking:

I iced the lemon zucchini muffins and finished off the poke cake. The poke cake isn’t hard, just a lot of steps. The kids liked it and I didn’t mind it, though I want to try it with the fruit salad and pistachio pudding my grandma used to use.

Socializing:

I quickly walked the dog and then met up with two friends at a local park. I wanted to make sure I saw them all as once I’m back unschool I won’t be able to. Most of my friends have made it clear that they’ll be keeping their distance. I get it.

The park was awesome and new to me, though it isn’t far from home. The top has a regular play structure, but then there is a long slide that goes from that level to the next where there is a field and a climbing wall. Then you go down one more level and there is a water park and a sand pit. We spent most of our time on the lowest level as it was a warm day.

I then rushed back as I had some friends coming over for dinner. It was a great night as the kids loved the pool. They’ve been in lakes, etc this summer, but no pool due to Covid, so I was glad I could give them a treat. We had glory bowls for dinner and they were amazing!

I spent the rest of the night watching The Great Canadian Baking Show and then went to bed with Banks.

Well I need to go search down some tea!

Have fun!

Friyay!

Even on holidays, I like Fridays!

Exercise:

I met Dennis for his favourite trail run. It is not my favourite, but I figure I’d better do this one for him sometimes. I always seem to be slow on this trail run. It is an out and back along a river to a waterfall. I know that I will be slow on the way out because it is all slightly uphill, but the trail is also technical so I never really feel like I get into a groove with my running. It did give me 7.56km more towards my goal which is important since we are approaching the end of the month!

I unfortunately didn’t plan well and didn’t get any other exercise in today because I had a massage. After paying for a massage I try to enjoy the benefits for at least a day!

Socializing:

After a lovely nap, I met up with a friend and her husband. I had texted her in the morning to let her know I had her shirt and some baking for her kids. Her and her husband came down and we had a great visit in the park across the street. I wish I got to do this type of thing more often!

Knitting:

I have been busy knitting away on my Weekender and I actually finally undid the previous start as I committed to this newer, slightly smaller sized one.

I hope this works well as I went to put away my Seraphina sweater today and I’m so disappointed that it is just so big on me! I hate doing all this work to end up with something that doesn’t fit well:(

Reading:

I always try to hold off until I’ve finished a book before talking about it, but this one I can’t resist. I am listening to Better Than Before by Gretchen Rubin and am absolutely loving it. It is all about making and keeping habits. It has definitely made me think about myself and what I want my life to be about. The bonus today is that it got me to do a little tidying around the house too.

Well, I think that’s everything about my day.

Have fun!

I Can’t Believe It!

I must be right out to lunch that I forgot to write the last two nights!

Exercise:

Yesterday I went with Dennis back out to the dykes for 7.26km. I had said I wanted to do as many dyke runs as possible before school starts as i won’t be able to once I’m working. It was a perfect day for a run- cool at the start, quiet and beautiful!

I also got the NourishMoveLove 30 Minute Power Barre workout done. It hurt while I was doing it, so I’m taking that as a good sign. I signed up for her email and so am just following the weekly schedule she sends.

Knitting:

I started the Weekender for the third time yesterday. I kept trying to convince myself that it was okay, but I really didn’t like the fabric that was being produced. I have now gone to a 3.75mm needle and that’s my final offer!

Socializing:

I met up with my friend Anna and her boys for some blackberry picking and it was the highlight of my day, even though we were too late for the good blackberries.

I also didn’t manage to come home with any berries, but that’s okay.

Well I need to get some baking done before I get Gus and it gets hot.

Have fun!

Ruined In One Day

Well my mom gets me to relax and I undid it one day back home.

Exercise:

I took my butt out the door for my usual 5km mill run. It was nice to know exactly where I was going and that there wouldn’t be any huge hills!

This evening I did another NourishMoveLove workout. I did the upper body dumbbell workout and boy did I feel that! I’m afraid to think about how I will feel tomorrow.

Shopping:

I set out first thing to the fabric store and grabbed material for more tanks. Hopefully I’m not biting off more than I can chew!

Knitting:

I also stopped in and grabbed my next pattern from my running buddy, who very kindly printed it for me. We are doing a bit of a knit along of the Weekender sweater by Andrea Mowry.

I have been doing the gauge swatch tonight and have to go down an entire needle size to get gauge.

My friend was showing me her shelf of homemade sweaters. I called it her happy shelf as it definitely makes one smile! I want a shelf like that!!!

Socializing:

I met up with a couple of friends that I hadn’t seen in about a month. We had lunch and did some window shopping.

My lunch was super yummy! A summer salad with chicken added to it at the Fort Trading Post.

Cooking:

It’s nice to have a cooler day as I had to cook up one of my Freah Prep meals. I decided to make the Five Spice Shitake Glazed Salmon with Jasmine Rice and Shanghai Bok Choy. It said it would take 30 minutes, but actually took 40. It wasn’t tough to make and I got four servings out of it.

I am hoping for some more cool weather tomorrow to make the second dish and hopefully some items for the freezer.

Well, I have an early run so I’m off to bed.

Have fun!

AJ

Active, Active, Active

It has been a very active day which I love as it always makes me feel fit:)

Exercise:

I met up with Dennis this morning for a bike ride. It was slightly more successful than the last time we rode bikes, but I am definitely not yet a good cyclist. I realized I am quite nervous turning, but I think that comes from the fact I went headfirst into a ravine as a teenager because I didn’t turn enough. I’ll just keep going and we’ll see if I ever improve🤣

I left tea with Dennis to meet up with my friend Emily for a socially distanced walk around Coquitlam River. It was awesome to catch up with her and being with her makes things fun and normal.

When I realized I only needed 10.55km to get to a nice round number, I knew I had to go out and try. I ended up going at 5pm which wasn’t the best as it’s been a super hot day, but I survived and lived to tell the tale. The run went fine though just before the end I had a rush of tingles through my right leg. I wonder what that is about?

Overall this month, I ran 20 times for a total of 126.36km. I worked out 14 times, did 4 yoga sessions and went on 3 bike rides for a total of 35.75km. I know that next month I really need to do more workouts and more yoga!

I will be giving an update on my run to Rapid City tomorrow.

Socializing:

I met up with another friend for a quick look at the bookstore and to get my gift card fixed. I of course, came home with more additions to my TBR, but no physical books. I think I’m just going to order the ones I want from the store online as they didn’t have them in person.

Knitting:

I have been working on my sweater today and kept thinking that it seemed big. Tonight I decided to take the time to put it on waste yarn and try it on. Well

This is how much extra I had. I’ve ripped it all out and think I’ll stick to the shawl for now as I may be starting a test knit.

Well I’m going to rest my weary body.

Have fun!

Stretching My Skills with Sally

Well it was a busy day that unfortunately included a dud.

Exercise:

I had my day planned out and knew I had to get my run in early if it was going to get done, especially with the heat. I got a lovely 5.5km to the mill and back.

This afternoon I did some weights. 36 each of: bent over rows, banded front raises, bicep curls, overhead tricep extension, pullovers, chest press, shoulder press, plank, crunches, bicycle crunches, reverse crunch with a toe tap, Russian twists, scissor legs, heel touches, squats, curtsy lunge, plié squat, adductors, calf raises, banded side shuffle, and hip bridges.

I’m sure there’s muscle under the heat wave bloat!

Baking:

Last Saturday I was supposed to share my July baking challenge, but I was waiting until I had somewhere to take the cake so that I didn’t eat it all.

Today I grabbed ingredients at the grocery store and got to work early before it got even hotter. I had decided to do lemon cupcakes with cream and blueberries. I decided on the cupcakes so that it would make it easier to divide up, during this time of Covid when no one is supposed to share food.

The cupcakes were quick and easy. I only had to change the butter to vegan butter spread and the milk to oat milk for these. They didn’t rise much, but they had a great lemon taste.

I had decided to use coco whip as my cream because dairy free whipping cream uses full fat coconut milk which is often too rich for me and the light doesn’t turn into whipping cream.

I got the cupcakes, the whip and the blueberries out to start the process, only to learn that coco whip doesn’t like 33 degree weather.

It was a disaster!! The coco whip slid right off the cupcake and took the blueberries with it.

I ended up not taking these anywhere and scraped the remaining coco whip off and froze the cupcakes.

Make sure you check out Abbey (Three Cats and a Girl) and Kathy (Sewing etc) to see how their baking challenge went. I’m sure better than mine!

Socializing:

I met up with my friend Anna and her two sons at a local park and were lucky enough to have it pretty much to ourselves. The distancing was a little tough but we did our best and avoided direct contact. It was awesome to see them as I haven’t since February!

I then grabbed Gus and we went to have ice cream. It was a quick trip as he had plans to go fishing with a fiend so I dropped him off on my way home. I’m happy with even a short Gus fix:)

Knitting:

After a 2.5 hour nap, I spent some time getting a few pattern repeats on the shawl done and a couple of rows towards the 3″ of knitting stockinette in the round I have to do for the sweater.

That isn’t day!

Have fun!
