Back to Semi Reality

While I am not back to the reality of work yet, I am back to the reality of home.

I woke up this morning and made the five hour journey home. The ferry was already full when I arrived so I was very happy to have a reservation. I unfortunately was the person holding up traffic at the end when my car required a jump start to get going. Who know what happened as it’s been fine since then. I continued the pain and torture by stopping to renew my car insurance on the way home. Wow is it ever expensive!

Exercise:

After a lovely nap, I went and met up with Sarah and Dennis for a run around the river. It was so hot and humid, but it was still nice to have company. Another 4.14km towards my running road trip.

I also wore my new tank top and it worked great! I’ll be making myself some more of them as I like tanks that aren’t tight.

I also got another NourishMoveLove workout done- the fifteen minute low impact barre workout. It is somewhat disconcerting to do a workout led by a pregnant woman who appears to be sweating less than yourself. I had better up the exercise!

Shopping:

I stopped in to grab some fruits, veggies and milk and my food delivery came early. I am not super excited about the two meals I got, but will give them a try later this week. It is supposed to rain for the next couple of days, so that will give me some time in the kitchen.

Conundrum:

I arrived home to awesome mail- the yarn I had ordered from the Fibre Co arrived! It is a gorgeous colour and I will be starting that project on Sunday probably.

I also had a package left at my door that is my address, but not my name. I am thinking I should call Purolator tomorrow and see what they will do with it. ????

Watching:

It was the weirdest thing- I actually watched the Democratic convention speeches tonight. I think my father is rubbing off on me. I am so not interested in politics, but I did want to see Obama and Harris speak. That may be the end of my political viewing, but maybe it will give me a conversation topic over the next week.

Well, I’m going to go crawl into bed with my book.

Have fun!

Traveling

Well not a super exciting day, but I’ll tell you about it anyways.

Reading:

I finished my current book, All For You. This book had four short stories and I really enjoyed three of them. The third, which is the longest one, was just too tough to get into and didn’t really hold my interest. I just saw that I’ve actually read this book before too.🀣. It didn’t even seem familiar.

Shopping:

My mom and I looked around Ladysmith and I managed to buy nothing but another pair of Birkenstock sandals. This is okay as I saw them when I was there earlier in the summer and thought about them before buying them:)

We checked on my dad at the house and it was coming along well. It’s amazing how nicely the foundation looks now and how that neatness definitely improved the look of the place overall!

Eating:

We went for lunch at the Sawmill Pub. We shared nachos which were fine, but not as good as the ones at the Well that I usually eat. I also tried a Merri Berri Cider and it was quite yummy!

Sightseeing:

We looked around Petroglyph Park. I told my mom I would be embarrassed for visitors to see this park! It is about five carvings in rocks that you can barely see:( There are so many other awesome parks that I would give this one, just outside Nanaimo, a pass!

Traveling:

I took a float plane ride home followed by two skytrain rides. It was great that there were no cruise ships in port right now and it was before rush hour so this was definitely the time to go! I must remember that 2pm flights mid week are lovely!

I unpacked and then proceeded to have a two hour nap. My mom wore me out!🀣

Baking:

I did get busy and baked some brownie bark as I have Tavia and Cori coming for knitting tomorrow. I made it from the cookbook I am reviewing right now.

The recipe was easy to make and if you like chocolate, it would probably be considered a success. My two pans came out differently- one is crisper than the other and I prefer the crispier. The only complaint I have is that no where did it say how thinly or thickly the batter should be spread. Probably why my two pans turned out differently. I’ll let you know what my company thinks tomorrow.

Knitting:

I am about to start a new project, but this will be my third try as I keep having difficulty with the provisional cast onπŸ™„

This is the first project I am attempting from my book, Knit So Fine: Designs with Skinny Yarn by Lisa R Meyers. I am thinking I’m going to work my way through the patterns in this book as out of 21, I really like ten of them. We’ll see how I do or whether I get distracted by something else.

I did get all my new yarn put away and I did a great job of buying yarn for weights that I didn’t have a lot ofπŸŽ‰πŸŽŠ

Have fun!

Off Again

I am off on another short adventure. I knew I wasn’t having a big holiday this summer so it’s nice I get a few small ones.

Exercise:

I had a list this morning and got a few things done before my running buddies were ready. It did work a little better that I told Sarah if I didn’t hear from her by ten am I was just going out for a run on my own. We did a short run around the inlet and got 4.2km in. I’m glad I had the auto pause on so my pace didn’t plummet too badly. I am only 0.4km off of where I should be right now for the month. Not bad!

Knitting:

I knit like crazy last night but didn’t quite get the sweater finished, but I did manage to finish it up this morning. It was very long and lean when done and I’m wondering if I should have refrained from blocking it and just let it loosen up as I wore it, but I blocked it🀣

I’m figuring that large white stripe must be from where I added the second skein. Oh well, hopefully it won’t show up too much. I looked at a couple of different sweater patterns, but mainly figured this out on my own and if you’re curious you can read all my notes on my Ravelry page. I am pretty happy with how it turned out and can’t wait to wear it!

I have already decided to work my way through a pattern book I had bought two years ago. It is for skinny yarn, of which I have lots and I like 9 of the 21 projects in the book, so it should keep me busy for a while:)

Traveling:

This afternoon I headed out on the train to downtown so I could take a float plane over to the island. The plan is to visit my parents for two nights then my mom and I will work our way down the island knitting stores to visit my brother for a night or two. I’ll then go home.

So far I have enjoyed vegan cheese, garlic sausage and pickles and a glass of wine with my mom while availing myself of their WiFi:)

A good start to any holiday!

Have fun!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

I rode in all of them, but not in this order.

Exercise:

I got up and got a very wet 4.8km done this morning, first thing. The rain was bouncing off the sidewalk so I really didn’t want to go, but did it anyways. I’ve done 77km so far this month so I’m not going to worry too much if I miss a couple of days while on holidays.

Traveling:

I grabbed my bag and headed out the door. I had to hunt down an umbrella for my walk to the train station as it was still bucketing down. The sky train sure does make it easier to get downtown.

From the train, I hopped on a float plane to get to Nanaimo. This is definitely my favourite way to get across the strait!!! We were right below the clouds! As well, it seems Harbor Air doesn’t hire anyone who isn’t good looking- the view was quite enjoyable!😜

In Nanaimo I met my mom and after a quick lunch at Noodlebox, we hopped in the car and took off North.

We drove straight through to Campbell River, about 2 hours and made a quick stop there before finishing off the last 2 hours to get to Port McNeill.

We had dinner right on the water at Gus’ Pub and it was super good! We are staying the night at the Black Bear Resort because it was the one place we could get two nights at!

Knitting:

Before I left I made a list of knitting stores and we decided to stop at the one in Campbell River on the way up. It’s called the Needle and Arts Centre and is located at 990 Shoppers Row.

The store was large and beautiful and had a ton of yarn in it. It also had a good amount of buttons and knitting books. I had never seen this before, but it also had lots of knitting kits- came with the pattern and the yarn to do it with. Some of the yarn was so wonderfully soft!!!If I lived in Campbell River I would be super happy to have this yarn shop available to me, however as a tourist, I came out with nothing. The store did not carry any local yarn, nor did it have a sale basket- the two things I usually buy. I also felt like everything in the store was something I could get elsewhere or could order online. It is worth a stop, but don’t expect anything unique.

Eating:

I’ve been quite good today- not with the food, but the amount.

Breakfast- raspberries

Lunch- 1/3 of spicy peanut noodles

Dinner- 1 order or bam bam shrimp. This was amazing! The coating was done with cornmeal and Thai chili sauce- so good!

Well, I’ve deleted photos, knitted four afghan pattern repeats and now I’m going to sleep!

Have fun!

Busy Again

It was another busy day, but in a different way.

Exercise:

My sister in law managed to take me along as a buddy to her training clinic this morning. I couldn’t believe it when they talked for an hour!! The nutritionist was interesting and definitely highlighted that I haven’t been eating enough fruits and veggies, but an hour of talking was just too much!

We ended up running over to a local park that had a 400m path around it. We had to do 200m slow and 200m push ten times. I had never done it this way where you don’t have a walk break in between. I ended up staying with a woman who was upset that she was at the back. I was just out for a run so was happy enough to keep her company. We ended up doing 5.7km.

I also walked down to the local grocery store for a few odds and ends my brother’s family needed.

Blogging:

I spent a lot of today taking advantage of my brother’s WiFi and catching up on reading blogs.

Eating:

My niece had bought dairy free daiya cheese so she could make taco salad for me. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I avoid daiya cheese. The salad though, was wonderful! My sister in law had also made a pavlova that we had as dessert with our lunch. It was very nice!

Travel:

I started the trip home much later than I had planned to, and it seemed a very long trip!

Baking:

I am meeting up with some friends tomorrow for ProD and though both of them said to not bother bringing anything, I just can’t do that! This evening I have made carrot cake muffins and savory vegetable scones. I’ll have to tell you tomorrow how they are though.

I think I’m off to bed as I’d like to get a run in tomorrow morning before work.

Have fun!

Back to Reality

I guess every good time has to come to an end at some point:(

Exercise:

We all agreed to get up and go for a run this morning. It was hot, but the beautiful scenery and the company made up for that. I highly recommend the KVR trail as it is 10km long so can do any run up to 20km with beautiful scenery and a soft surface:)

I also got out for a walk this evening to stretch out my legs after sitting so much. It felt really good and I was faster than normal:)

Eating:

This was even better than normal Sunday morning as I got an entire breakfast made for me! R got busy and we had scrambled eggs, bacon and I had fruit while everyone else had fruit topped pancakes. It was all so yummy! I’m obviously going to need to take some lessons from R for cooking!

Traveling:

We packed up after breakfast and headed out. We had a quick stop at Brenda’s brother’s place to pick some stuff up and then got gas and were heading home. We didn’t make any stops, but traffic wasn’t as awesome as it was going up on Friday so it still took us the whole four hours to get home.

Home:

I am fully unpacked!:) K must be rubbing off on me as she is a super neat and organized person who deals with things immediately:). I wonder how long this influence will last?🀣

Knitting:

I had great plans to finish my sweater on the way home, or at least one sleeve, but unfortunately I had left my DPNs at home. Since coming home I have started the second sleeve using the other end of the yarn and have gotten caught up to the first sleeve. I’ll now switch back and forth for the seven row pattern repeat so I can ensure both sleeves are the same! I have high hopes that I may just have this done tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. Now I just need it to cool off so I can wear it!!!

Well I’m off to bed as I want to get up early for a run before it gets hot!

Have fun!
