TriviaTuesday

It’s been a busy day!

Reading:

Just before I forget.. I finished a good book last night and started the second in the series this morning. The first was called The Chocolate Duchess by Sidney Jane Bailey. This is complete fluff, but it was fun.

Teaching:

The kids were fine. We got through long I in phonics, a little bit of place value practice, library and a science experiment on why birds fly in a v when migrating.

I really noticed today that some of the kids are noticeably better at things now than they were before Christmas break. It’s great to see.

I was also super happy to see that four children have already moved onto the next level in home reading. Yay! I had a feeling this group would move fast if I could just get the program for them.

I spent my prep and some time after school making an inventory list of our guided reading books. I’m going to use mine to keep track of what books I use with what groups.

Exercise:

I drove over to a nearby River and ran there with Dennis and Sarah. This got my car moving (I had to jumpstart it again yesterday) and got my run in:). It was actually quite a quick run as we were racing the daylight.

House:

My gas fireplace turned itself off again yesterday and wouldn’t come back on so my cousin came again tonight to fix it. I wish I had been more organized and had something on hand to clean the glass. I tried vinegar, but I don’t feel like it did anything:(

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday

It was just another day.

Teaching:

I started the day by giving prizes for the kids who did home reading last night. I had eleven kids read on RAZ Kids last night and am hoping the four prizes I gave away will inspire the others.

We tackled the long e today and most of the kids did great! The students really seem to have turned a corner on their vowels since they came back from winter break.

We did a wonder wall! I have been wanting to do this for a few years since I saw it on Instagram and with our new unit about animals in winter, this was the perfect time to set it up. We talked about shallow and deep questions and I was pretty impressed that most of the questions were really thoughtful.

In the afternoon we started learning about migration- our first sub theme.

I left school quickly for my massage appointment.

Knitting:

I am still taking apart the sleeve:( I had better wear this sweater a lot once it is fixed!

Trivia Tuesday

Well the second day was just as frustrating when it comes to my smart board, but at least the kids got some time outside.

Teaching:

My smart board didn’t work this morning so I had to quickly change around my day and we did Thursday’s printing of u that doesn’t require any tech.

We had more tech problems after recess during our math time so there went that lesson too. We did some practice of counting by 2s while moving, but couldn’t watch the video I had found.

Finally this afternoon everything was working so after reading time we watched “Squirrel’s New Years Resolution” and discussed and wrote about what we could make as our goals this year. The children actually did really well at this concept this year. Maybe I’m getting better with the examples?!?!🤣

Exercise:

My running buddies tell me I am obsessed with running and they were worried I was out there too soon after falling. I did feel much better today, except on stairs and hills. I took it easy and got 4km in through the driving rain and wind and dark. What a night to be out there!

I also did 8 minutes of yoga and managed to avoid all kneeling and hand moves.😜

Have fun!

Trivia Tuesday

It was a pretty good day!

Teaching:

It was a pretty productive day! We got the parent gift wrapped and the card made. It feels great to have that done and then I got the student gifts done after school so I’m feeling much calmer. I don’t think there’s anything else I have to get done by Friday .

I did a 5km with Dennis tonight. The best part of the run was that my NoxGear came and it was dark enough on the way home to be necessary.

Trivia Tuesday

Today wasn’t a great day as I was still upset about Christmas and my kids were wired!

Teaching:

My class has brought in 241 items for the food bank so that’s pretty amazing for twenty little kids.

We tackled the letter u and it’s short sound today. We managed to get through Around the World counting by 5s. The kids had music while I tried to get more editing of my report cards done.

This afternoon I got through a reading group and then we tackled reindeer. Reindeer is our theme this week. We learned reindeer facts.

Did you know:

Reindeer live for fifteen years in the wild and twenty in captivity.

Reindeer can swim.

Reindeer are called caribou in Canada.

Male and female reindeer grow horns. Male reindeer can be 1.4m wide!

We then pretended we had a pet reindeer. The ideas were great, but it was just too much writing for the little guys.

Exercise:

I got out for a run after school as I was hoping that would change my mood. I got 5.22km in the rain.

Trivia:

Thankfully my one social event of the week was still on which was great!

Trivia Tuesday

It was a long day as it was once again an indoor day, all day:(

Teaching:

My students did really well for not being able to get outside and run around. We learned about the short i this morning. They had library while I wrote a report card and then this afternoon I took a reading group and then we did STEM. This month we concentrated on creative thinking and read the book, Not a Stick. We then went out in the pouring rain to each find a stick and played charades until someone guessed what our stick really was. We then recorded our idea with writing and a picture and made a class book. The kids really seemed to love it!

After school I got to work with my teaching buddy and now have eight report card drafts done. I do feel like I need to go back and rewrite the first ones though. It’s always like that as it takes a few for me to get into the swing of things.

Trivia:

Trivia tonight is themed around the show The Office. I’ve never seen the show but studied the character Angela a bit and brought my best printing.

My tea really knew their stuff!

I knew that the character Angela had the same name unreal life and on the show

We came in first for the first and second rounds, did horribly the third round and then came first again the fourth round to win the night overall🎉🎊🎉🎊

On that news, have fun!

AJ

Trivia Tuesday

It was a tough day cause they called another indoor day at lunch.

Teaching:

We did more work for our report cards today. The kids did their perspective and told me about who their friends are, what they like best at school and the most interesting they’ve learned so far this year. It was real interesting!

We did a couple of math games and then I had a prep.

This afternoon we tackled rights and responsibilities again as I didn’t feel like the kids really got it.

Exercise:

I left work early and went for a run with Dennis. We were supposed to be doing an interval workout, but instead we did a tempo run. I hit a 5:57, but was definitely feeling eating at 3pm.

Knitting:

I managed to finish the socks! I had to change the toe of one because I was running out of yarn.

This is the Brookline socks done in Kroy socks in gray. I really do love this yarn for reasonable socks.

Trivia Tuesday

Well it was once again a nice day since my principal was away again🎉🎊

Exercise:

I actually started the day with ten minutes of yoga before I went off to work. It felt great, took no time and got me a little more yoga time for the year- a win all around:)

I also did a run with Dennis after school. We had to do a progression run where every five minutes we got faster. I actually managed to do this. We had a few breaks as he was still having trouble breathing (it was his first day with a puffer), but we managed 4.57km. Pretty good for a very cold Tuesday.

Teaching:

Our day was quite mixed up. The older kids cane up this morning and taught us the brain dance. I promised them I would get the exact movements from the teacher as grade five teachers aren’t perfect.😜

We also had a quick poppy poem to do and then it was time to eat snack as we had to eat before our early recess today as we had the Remembrance Day assembly after recess.

The assembly went reasonably well for our first virtual try. The kids were super patient as we tried to get sound working, etc.

After lunch we had silent reading and guided reading. I am worried about the two girls I worked with today as the sounds just don’t seem to be clicking for them. I had sent home the alphabet rap, but maybe it’s not getting done:(

We also worked on a Peace Is class book this afternoon before we went out to play. I have about five students who still need to finish, but otherwise, a pretty good day.

Trivia:

We went to trivia tonight, but we really aren’t sure how much longer it will go on with these new restrictions we are under.

So there were five of us for trivia tonight and we are still in third place overall.

In the first round, we knew:

Trivia Tuesday

Sorry for no post yesterday- I went to bed at 8🤣

Teaching:

It was quite the day because we had an inside recess and lunch! We got through printing, two lessons on rights and responsibilities and a math game. At the end of the day we had a dance party. It was fun to see the kids boogie- some of them have some great moves!

We were just about to dismiss when a code yellow was declared (hold and secure) because there was a bear up the street. I ended up having the kids for an extra half hour🙄

Exercise:

I had had enough by then and decided I needed a run whether I had a running buddy available or not. I didn’t do the hills I was supposed to but got a decent 5km in.

Trivia Tuesday

Well it appears I’m wearing a target.

Teaching:

We worked on the parts of a pumpkin this morning and then went on to putting our pumpkins in order from smallest to biggest.

After recess the kids were super excited to roll virtual dice on the smartboard and tell me whether the number was even or odd. We managed to do this by having each child use their own personal whiteboard marker to touch the smartboard. So simple and yet they loved it.

This afternoon we did a mini book about the life cycle of a pumpkin. The kids got to see me make another mistake as originally I had the flower before the vine. I swear…I meant to do that.

While I was on my prep in the staffroom, where we have been told we have to prep, I was sitting with my lunch to my right, my tea to my left and my phone on my lap as I uploaded Terry Fox run pictures to FreshGrade for the parents. My principal goes by the window, knocks on it and motions for me to put on a mask. I am in the room alone and am eating and drinking…🙄😖

Exercise:

After a quick stop at the dollar store I met up with Dennis for my run at the track. We were supposed to do fifteen repeats of 40 seconds hard, then 20 seconds easy, but Dennis was having real trouble with his breathing so we did nine repeats with more rest. It’s another 2.4km in the run bank.

Trivia:

It was a Seinfeld theme night. I have never watched Seinfeld, but did read up on Elaine in advance.

We actually won the second round!

We came in third overall for the night which is decent when there were only three people on the team who have seen Seinfeld. Sometimes I think a team of four is the best.

Have fun!
