Prep, Prep, Prep

I feel like for every one thing I get off my list, I add ten more:(

Teaching:

We planned before school today. It was going well until we got interrupted by teachers who needed to vent because our principal caved to a problem parent and moved her child🙄 It’s a slippery slope!

We talked about family today, with the book Love is a Family by Roma Downey and drew pictures. The children did really well for the most part. We also learned how to put papers into duo-tangs! It’s a tough skill, but someone has to teach it🤣

We worked on our number booklet and played the really cool game called mystery number again (I giggle as it’s just guessing a number based on clues, but they seem to love it).

The children had computers and we created our collaborative art piece. I’ll have to take a picture of it tomorrow to share as I’m pleased with how it turned out. It was neat how the children often represented themselves with where they placed their art in the picture- high, low, behind, backwards, etc.

After school, it was back to prep! I spent 48 minutes tracing my bulletin board letters for the students’ name tags. Who comes up with these horrible ideas?? Oh right, it was me:(. I think we are finally ready for next week! I can’t wait until all the yearly set up is done so that I am then just prepping for the week.

Exercise:

I am a little sore from my workout yesterday (in really good places!) so I decided to just walk the Squad Runner mission of an hour today. It got done and that’s all that was required. I’m hoping to do some abs before bed to make up for the laziness!

Reading:

I am still working my way through The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George. It has been really good so far and hopefully I’ll have it done by Saturday afternoon!!

Knitting:

The ea at my school liked her water bottle holder and actually used it today:)

I’m now starting a girl’s poncho in purple which will be for donation at my school’s Christmas fair, but I also need to get going on my parent’s boat Afghan so they can use it in October when they’re back on the boat.

Well I’m off to relax on the couch!

Have fun!

Back To It

After dreading it all weekend, I went back to work today.

Teaching:

I feel quite discombobulated! Even after being at work for a week, I feel like I don’t remember what I need to teach the children on the first day. I always feel sorry for the kids during their first few days in their new classroom as it is all about learning the routines. I spend all day explaining and demonstrating how each little task needs to be done. We did survive and I am actually proud of myself for relinquishing control of the rules. Usually I post the same rules each year, but this year I really let the kids go for it. We brainstormed rules and then figured out how to turn them into positive statements. We ended up with:

Be kind.

Ask before you take or touch.

Listen, pay attention and use kind words.

Keep your body and objects to yourself.

Walk in the classroom and hallways.

Are they perfect? No. Will they do the job? Yes!

We had a staff meeting after work which was quite interesting and we finally got our prep schedule, computer and gym times so I can create my schedule tomorrow.

My co teacher and I stayed late and made good progress on the to-do list, but we really need to let go of our unrealistic expectations that everything needs to be ready immediately!

Exercise:

I had walked to school today, carrying my laptop and a big bag of heavy snacks, in order to work on getting the Squad Runner mission. I went out at lunch to finish it up and even though I did 37 minutes, instead of 30, it still didn’t give me the mission point. Grrr😖

I had decided to run after school this year and today was the real test! I got home at 6:30 and didn’t even allow myself to sit down to put my shoes on, just changed and headed back out the door for my run. Thankfully it didn’t have to be super long (I used my walk home towards it) nor did it need to be fast. I ended up doing 5.17km at 7:04pace. I think it counts for double though as it was pouring while I was out there. I did my loop through the park and the water was super high!

I had told one of my Squad Runner teammates that I would work through a marathon training program to give him support so this run got week 1, day 1 done:)

Reading:

I have spent the evening reading two books- one is my Bookclub book for Saturday. I need to read at least 46 pages a day and so far I am ahead of schedule.

The second book is for NetGalley and I’m quite enjoying it! Hopefully I’ll be able to share reviews soon!

Well I’m exhausted and off to bed!

I must be in a leopard kind of feeling tonight!

Have fun!

It Finally Rained

I was so happy to get up this morning and hear rain! It didn’t change my plans but was definitely needed!

Exercise:

I have to admit to feeling pudgy lately. Some is due to the dairy attack, but a lot is due to my time in Robert’s Creek. This morning started off on a good note to change that feeling- a nice hike with my friend Sarah and Kula.

He did spend a lot of time waiting for us at the top of hills and at the bottom of hills. It really does look like he is saying, “geez can’t you two keep up?”

It was a great 5.8km walk and is definitely how I like to spend my days off!

This evening, I really didn’t want to go out, but knew I had to in order to make progress on the 15km mission. I gave myself permission to take it easy and slow and just do a short run as it’s been over a week since I ran. The rain had stopped and I enjoyed my 3.35km run.

This is a start back into my healthy lifestyle. I figure I had better get back into my habits this week so that they are established before we add in kids and work!

Reading:

I finished my NetGalley book today, Why Not Tonight by Susan Mallery.

This is the third story in the Happily Inc series. I greatly enjoyed it.

Natalie is the main heroine and I lover her optimism. She brings fun and positivity to every situation and yet she’s not an unrealistic Pollyanna. She has confidence in herself and I love her self-assured statement. Yet she has hidden depths as you can see she sometimes doubts she can be loved as it hasn’t worked out for her in the past.

Ronan is the Moody artist. I have to admit this isn’t my ideal man and much of his struggle just annoyed me. I very much agreed with Natalie that he was still incredibly lucky with his life and why he was pouting, was beyond me.

I enjoyed how Ronan became closer to his brothers and that brought the rest of the family into the book.

I also liked how the book didn’t go as I thought it would. At one point I thought I knew what was going to happen and I was completely wrong. I am so happy that I was!

The book celebrates art which is great and would be of interest to anyone who is artistic or enjoys art. It definitely gave me inspiration to create!

Thank you to NetGalley, Susan Mallery and the publisher for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I of course have started another book that has to be returned Monday instead of doing any of the projects that I really need to get done:(

Cooking:

With the rain, it felt like the perfect day to do some cooking and it would help with getting me back on track to healthy!

I started with making the pesto pasta salad. It was super easy as I just cooked up some shell pasta, added quartered cherry tomatoes, minced garlic and pesto. I had it for lunch and am very happy with the results. Even better I have four servings in my fridge and whatever doesn’t get eaten will get frozen:)

I also cooked up some chicken and made up some chicken Caesar salads as there was Earth Island Parmesan cheese (fake) on sale this week. I had this for dinner and was super happy with it too! I don’t normally like Daiya anything, but I don’t mind the Caesar dressing.

Finally I tried a recipe from me newest cookbook, Deliciously Ella Everyday by Ella Woodward.

I made the Zucchini Banana Bread and am not very happy with it. I have high expectations for my baking now and this is very dense and heavy and didn’t cook nicely at all:(. I will give the book a few more chances, but so far I’m not impressed:(

Well I’m off to do more reading.

Have fun!

Active in a Way

I couldn’t take sitting around another day, but knew I also couldn’t stress my body out more.

Exercise:

I got up this morning and wanted to run the 42 minute Squad Runner mission, but knew I couldn’t. I don’t think I could stop itching for that long, so I decided to walk instead. It felt great just to be outside and moving, though I definitely wasn’t as quick as I usually am!

I had arranged to go for a bike ride with a colleague this afternoon. Though my bike seat quickly grew uncomfortable, it was still an awesome 18km ride. We figured out the path is a 25km loop and one day soon we would like to do it. We just need to find a map for it first!

Errands:

I stopped on the way home and picked up a few groceries, unfortunately more than I need, but thankfully the extras are fruits and veggies. It will be so nice to get back to eating normally! I have a meal plan made for the week and hopefully tomorrow I will be doing some cooking!

Reading:

I finished my library book!

About That Kiss was a great addition to this Jill Shalvis series and I finished it in two days. I liked this book for a few reasons. First it had the strong friendship circle that was predominant. Secondly, the characters were flawed, interesting and realistic. Thirdly, the pace was awesome- it gave enough detail without bogging the reader down in description, details or flowery language. Lastly, I enjoyed that the romance actually took a back seat to the central investigative plot!

I can’t wait for the next in the series which is out at the end of September!

Movie:

This evening I hung out with my friend Michelle ( who has an awesome blog you should check out😀). We caught up as we hadn’t seen each other in at least a month, maybe two. We also watched a Hallmark movie. It was nice to have someone to enjoy one of these with. We watched Autumn Dreams.

I have no idea why they are in a boat as that didn’t happen in the movie! This movie was neat as it was obviously filmed in Vancouver so we spent lots of time identifying locations. I really liked the driver Hector in this movie and he made the movie for me! Michelle liked the personal assistant and she was good too. I would say this movie is worth watching and the ending is very cute!

Michelle, thanks for an awesome night and for being such a great friend!!!

Well, that’s it for me tonight!

Have fun!

Hurry Up and Wait

Today didn’t go exactly as planned.

Traveling:

Like anything good, my girls weekend had to come to an end. I ate the rest of my ice cream for breakfast, cleaned up the cabin and then we had to sit around waiting for the towels to dry! 😖😝. I got a lot of new songs added to my running playlist on Spotify🤣

Finally, about 12:30 we had to say goodbye to our lovely cabin and head for the ferry.

They obviously knew I was coming with this towel!

The trip in the car was fine, and the ferry terminal had some kiosks for us to peruse. I had seen this photographer’s work in Gibson’s and I’m going to need to look him up as some of his images were amazing!, I finished off my unhealthy food on the ferry ride, but then I got onto the skytrain and it was like playing sardines. It was absolutely stuffed!!! I did finally manage to get home, but it seemed to take forever and I was super tired!

I quickly got the laundry in and my bag unpacked.

Exercise:

The Squad Runner mission was a forty five minute run today, but we have an extreme air quality warning, supposedly we have the worst air quality in the world right now due to the wildfires:( Between this and being tired, I decided a brisk walk would have to do! I got that done and picked up a bottle of wine for my friends on the way home. I thought afterwards I should have put the wine in a bag before I walked down the street with it🤣

I have been eating junk all weekend and without much exercise so I wanted to make sure I got right back to clean living, so a workout had to occur tonight!

I had a picture on my phone of a Simply Susan HIIT workout. I’m not sure from where, but I’m guessing a blog, so thank you to whoever posted it! It was quick and easy and a good way to ease back into working out.

Do 5 rounds of:

15 push-ups

15 jump squats

15 squat thrusts

I was a little breathless by the final round!

Movie:

Oh last night we ended up watching a second movie, a new one called “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”. It is based on a YA novel and was a very cute rom com movie. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who has Netflix and wants just a sweet, feel good movie. I’m sorry I don’t know how it compares to the book as I haven’t read the book.

Well I’m in bed with my book:)

Have fun!

AJ

Another Day of Fun

I am so glad we didn’t have to rush home today as it gave us another awesome day of fun!

Exercise:

We went for another walk today. This time we hit Cliff Gilker Park which we had read online had a better waterfall than the one we missed yesterday. Well we walked every path in the park, which were much more technical than yesterday’s

And this is the only waterfall we saw!

Maybe I should give up on waterfalls for this holiday!

This was my only exercise for the day and I feel like I’m going to have to go home and run all day every day!!!

Eating:

We hit another new restaurant today. Unfortunately we were hungry. I really wanted the avocado breakfast bowl with chorizo sausage, but they were sold out so I ended up with a beef burrito bowl with an egg on top. Along with this I had a glass of red sangria, which I had to doctor with simple syrup as it just wasn’t sweet enough!

The food was good, but I’m not sure it was worth the forty five minute wait nor the obnoxious guys sitting behind us.

The view was awesome though!

Knitting:

I spent most of the afternoon knitting on my scarf for my friend.  It was an awesome place to do some knitting, though I was under a blanket because the wine was cool!

Reading:

I read a couple of short novellas last night so I could finish off a series I have been reading.

Rock With You was insta-love but for some reason it didn’t bother me. Maybe because it was set in a bakery or because how else could it be with a rock star. It was a short but enjoyable read.

I also finished this short story, All I Want For Christmas Is You which was like a little extra scene after the book ended. I loved a peek at life after the book ends and I wish more authors did this!

Product Review:

I found some Ben and Jerry’s dairy free Cherry Garcia almond milk ice cream today and I loved it!

It was incredibly yummy!!!! I got this because there wasn’t much non dairy voice where my friends got ice cream.

Movie:

We’ve been watching Something Borrowed as we ate dinner. I had forgotten all about this movie/book since it’s been years since I’ve read or seen it.

I’m off to finish the movie and maybe another one.

Have fun!

Do We All Become Our Parents?

What can I say, every vacation day is a good day:)

Exercise:

I started the day with a 5.7km walk with Anne and Moiya. It was already really hot out when we walked around a local lake, but I enjoyed it anyways as I knew it would be my last walk with these two.

Coming back I managed to grab pictures of the Easter Island garden art someone had. They have four or five in total and they are all different. Some people are so creative!

This evening, I managed a 5.1km run to complete the Squad Runner mission for today. My mom didn’t want me running on my own (nice to know that no matter how old you get- you’re still your mom’s little girl, but I really don’t think anyone was planning on stealing me🤪🤣), so I ended up running loops around the John Henry Pub and Marina. I managed to add on a little bit more so I only had to do 9 laps to complete this mission on this hot, muggy night. I even managed to be a tiny bit faster than I have been this summer- not back to spring running times, but improving.

Knitting:

I was working away happily on my parent’s boat afghan, until I realized that I was missing a stitch:(. I have ripped back two rows, but still haven’t found the stitch:( I might cry if I have to rip out 25 rows of knitting as this would be my 6th restart of this project, and here I thought it was going so well!

Blogging:

I went through my posts today to review my titles so I will hopefully not repeat too often. I had to laugh at myself as lately I’ve been worried when I only get 30 something likes on a post and as I looked back and saw the posts at the start of my blogging that had only one or two likes, I decided not to worry, I am slowly plodding forward:)

Grateful:

A few months ago I did this after my sister in law introduced me to the idea and I keep forgetting to add it to the bottom of my posts, though I think it’s an awesome thing to do at the end of a day. So here goes:

I am thankful for:

1) having the opportunity to spend time on a boat in a beautiful place with wonderful people

2) having the sunshine that will give me vitamin D and make me thankful for fall weather temperatures

3) for getting holidays from my job as I know how lucky I am to have such an extended period of time

It has been a very quiet day of mostly reading. As I looked around I saw that my parents were doing the same thing. Am I becoming my parents???😳🤪

Have fun!

AJ

Awww Really?

Another day in quiet paradise.

Exercise:

Started with a long walk with my mom, Anne and Moiya. It was going great until Anne mentioned they are leaving tomorrow:( Awww really? I don’t want to lose the great company, but they have to get in with their adventures too. The walk this morning was interesting as we did the same route as last night. Last night the road seemed perfect- quiet, flat, shady, etc. Today- there was so much traffic!!!! Ugh this will have to be my evening walking place I guess!

I also got a workout in while my parents went to the store. I managed to do more abs so while my cardio may suffer, maybe my abs will improve on this trip. Today, I did: 10 crunches, 20 reverse curls, 30 heel reaches, 40 leg drops, 50 bicycles, 60 v ups, 70 dead bugs, 80 toe touches, 90 static crunch with scissor legs, 100 mountain climbers, 50 squats, 50 plow squats, 1:45 plank.

As I write this, I realize I had screenshot a workout to do today. Ugh I’ll have to do it tomorrow.

I got a walk in tonight too. The same route as last night and this morning, but the road was back to being quiet. I thankfully have another week to explore different routes:)

Knitting:

I have spent a bit of time on my afghan today and am halfway through the first pattern now. It was rather warm knitting for 33 degree weather though:(

Reading:

Another day, another book. I finished my next NetGalley book today.

The Breakup by Erin McCarthy is the sequel in the Jordan Brothers series. It tells the story of Christian, a local bartender with a complicated family situation, and Bella, a social worker about to be married.

I thought I would find Bella annoying, but her character comes across as sweet and innocent. I also thought Christian would be a jerk, but he isn’t. He takes fatherhood seriously, treats Bella with respect and gives her what she needs whether she realizes it or not.

The pacing is excellent in this book. The story is not insta-love, though there is some insta-lust involved. I liked how they got to know each other and that brought them closer. I have to admit, I could have kicked Christian at the end for messing up, but it all worked out with a lovely HEA. I especially liked how we got an epilogue that tidily finished up both books in the series!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Other than a nap, dangling my feet in the water, and way too much snacking, that was my day:)

Have fun!

AJ

Epic Walk?

I knocked something off my bucket list:)

Exercise:

Last night I had to run out for ginger ale and I also picked up guacamole and chips, thinking I could enjoy them if I burned some calories.

When I woke up this morning and realized I had nothing on my to-do list for today (well there’s lots there, but no one to meet), I thought I would tackle the long walk I’ve been wanting to do for the past two years.

Every summer I walk part of the Stanley Lark Seawall with my friend Emily. We usually do the same part and it’s lovely, but since last year I’ve been wanting to do the whole thing. I tried to do it last year with my friend Lyndsay, but commitments got into the way. Today there was nothing but a free day! It was funny though that as soon as I realized I could do it, I wasn’t sure I wanted to.😂. I told myself I could stop anytime, but in my head I wanted to walk at least for more than an hour as it was going to take that long to get there!

I skytrained downtown and started out. I took pictures, but they may be blurry as I didn’t stop once.

These are all on the coal Harbour side. I started at the Vancouver Convention centre where the seawall starts, went by Coal Harbour, the Vancouver Rowing Club, and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. This side of the seawall is the warmer side. I was in a long sleeved shirt and was warm, but knew I’d need it once I got out past the point.

These are all from the outside part of the Seawall- the lighthouse, below the LionsGate Bridge, Siawash Rock, 3rd Beach, 2nd Beach, English Bay and then False Creek.

It was very interesting to walk this the opposite way as I did earlier in the week. There were already lots of people out getting their places for the Honda celebration of Light tonight (fireworks).

When I look online I see it says the seawall is 28km long. In my head I had decided that I would end at Athletes Village (created for the 2010 Winter Olympics), visit my parents and then hope the skytrain as this is the nearest skytrain station to the seawall.

I ended up walking 17.5km in 3 hours and am quite happy with that. The plan is next time I will walk from Science World to Granville Island and the Burrard Street Bridge and then skytrain home from there.

Family:

Of course when I got to my parent’s boat, I got a quick hug and then put up work going to Costco with my mom and Anne to get food for tonight. They decided to take advantage of having a third person to carry grocery bags 🤣

Since being home, I have eaten way too many chips and guacamole and think I may have cured that craving! I have gone to another Costco and bought new summer towels ( and been o recharged by $2, but it would cost more in gas to go back to complain!), and read my book.

Now I’m going to enjoy another Hallmark movie and finish my rug square. I should probably be cleaning and packing to go out on the boat, but oh well😏

Have fun!

AJ

Another Late Night

Sorry I crawled into bed immediately and was out!

Reading:

I had quite a quiet day and so managed to finish another book.

No Other Duke Will Do is the last book in the Wyndham Brides quartet for me. I have really enjoyed this series as the women are strong and independent. The whole series also has a very strong family presence. I do find the latitude taken with history bugs me a bit, but that’s probably only because I was a history major. This particular book, I also found the hero lovely, but a little unbelievable. I can’t quite believe he hadn’t come up with the solution himself!

I would still recommend the series for anyone who enjoys historical romance.

Crafting:

I did work away some at my rug squatters as well. I’m not halfway though so a little nervous about falling behind!

Sewing:

I had promised my co teacher I would make the curtains for her, but I didn’t get to start yesterday. I actually went and did some measurements though so I’ll be able to start this morning!

Socializing:

My big event for the day was going back downtown to meet up with a friend. We went for a big walk along the seawall-about 11km. It was the perfect day for it as it wasn’t super hot and there was a lovely breeze!

Then we walked through the city trying to find dinner. I wanted to go back to Meet as it was relatively close, but after walking 3km we got there just to see that it was closed for an event:(

We ended up at Tacofino which was fine with me as their food is good. We thought the wait might be interminable, but just as we were thinking of going elsewhere we got called. Ten minutes isn’t bad. I just asked the server what I could have and ended up with one of these tacos.

It was a lamb barria taco. It was a really good taco- good flavor and spice! I was laughing at myself as I had just been telling my friend that I keep eating Mexican but am yet to have the guacamole and chips that I’m really craving! The server didn’t mention them as an option so I went with the lamb.

We had to walk back through the city anyways so decided to stop at another Meet location for dessert.

I had the lemon tart which I think may have been the same thing I had last time too! At least now I’ve written it here so hopefully I’ll have something different next time!

It was an absolutely great afternoon with my friend! Our seawall walk has become a bit of a tradition for us. I did feel bad though as her foot started to hurt:(. I think I’m really going to have to do my full seawall walk on my own as when I’m with someone and they get tired or start hurting, I feel really bad!!!😢😞

The drive home took forever because of the construction detour and then there was also a bad accident. I would still say it was worth it!

Have fun!
