PJ Day

I really didn’t mean to spend the day in my pajamas!

House:

I got busy this morning and did my one task of housework. I had to change the order as my floors were in desperate need of cleaning, so all sweeping and vacuuming got done today. I’m glad I got at least that done!

Relaxing:

I have to admit I spent most of the day eating berries, playing scrabble, reading and watching a Hallmark movie.

Exercise:

Thank goodness I had arranged to run with Sarah today or I never would have gotten out of my pajamas. We did a 5km to the mill and back and boy was it hot and a little busier than I like.

I then came home and did a Hallmark workout which was a minute of jogging between: front raises, crunches, lateral raises, squats, plié squats, deadlifts, burpees, tricep extensions, mountain climbers, pullovers, reverse crunches and bicep curls.

I really need a massage though! My body is getting very sore and creaky.

I know I should be knitting or stitching, but I think I’m going to go back to reading my book.

Have fun!

Visiting Is Good

Well not only does visiting my parents improve my mood and my hug-o-meter, it also apparently, improves my fitness.

Exercise:

I got up super early this morning and met Dennis for a long run. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but I managed a 10km PR! I actually got faster as the run went on and at one point was keeping up with Dennis at a 5:52/km (this is fast for me)! It felt really good to get back to normal and have a long run, but I guess all those hills of the past week, made me stronger.

I also got a Hallmark workout in this evening. I did a minute of jogging between crunches, squats, front raises, plié squats, burpees, pushups, lateral raises, reverse crunches, bent over rows, bicep curls, mountain climbers, full weighted sit ups, and deadlifts. I really need to go pick up some heavier weights and I need to remember to take some weights with me when I visit my parents.

Hallmark workouts seem great for right now- I get to watch a movie and hopefully get into better shape.

Shopping:

After a tea with the Sunday group and a quick shower, I met up with Lyndsay to go out to a local berry farm. We started with Krause Berry Farms which my mom and I went to last summer.

This was from last year as this year the winery wasn’t open and there were lineups to get into the market and to get waffles. We must have arrived at a very busy time, about 1:15 as the lineups were much longer then than when we came out. It wasn’t as enjoyable in the market as you can’t touch anything unless you are buying it and you can’t really take your time as you have to stay in your spot in the lineup that goes through. I did go a little crazy with berries, but am telling myself I just bought all my berries at one time this year.

The one extra container of raspberries is for my friend Sarah, though now I realize I could have just given her one out of my flat. Oh well!

On the way back we passed Driedeger Farms which neither of us had been to. We decided to stop and take a look so we would know which we liked better. I think Krause Berry Farms is what Driedeger Farms wants to be when they grow up. Driedeger is much smaller and seems to be much more focused on U-pick. It is nice to actually know that now:)

I have to admit that I have been lazy the rest of the day and have just been reading and playing scrabble. I had better get back into the cross stitch and knitting daily habit quickly!

Oh and I am starting to think about road trip food so if anyone has any suggestions of what has worked for them, I’d love to hear them!

Have fun!

It Keeps Getting Shorter:(

The nice thing about visiting my parents is that I get to do what I would do at home, but with company. Plus having someone else around forces me to be the better version of me.

Exercise:

I did 5.65km this morning, and yes it was more hills. I think I managed to figure out a route for tomorrow which should only have one massive hill, but several smaller ones. I really don’t like how the first hill comes at 0.5km – I’m not even warmed up then!

I did ten minutes of yoga when I got home to try and stretch out my poor legs. I really can’t wait for my massage next week.

I also did a BeFitDavis abs workout this afternoon- plank, Russian twists, leg drop to reverse crunch and crunches. I added on the pushups so another part of me would get exercised too.

Shopping:

My mom and I went to a different grocery store today and I found five different types of my soya cheese. This cheese is good when I’m having cheese and crackers as it holds it’s shape like regular cheese. I always love looking around grocery stores when I’m in a new place, though the two I’ve been in on this trip make me happy I live where I do.

Crafting:

I spent some time on both my cross stitch and my knitting. I’m not sure there’s visible progress yet, but I know I did stuff!

Reading:

Still working on Beach Read. I don’t know why this book is going so slow, but I am over halfway so hopefully will be done soon.

Family:

This afternoon my mom found out that her specialist appointment is on the phone so she doesn’t need to go home. That means she isn’t going and I contacted my brother to see if I could get a ride with them. I can, but it means I’m going home on Saturday:(. Even with how quiet the trip has been, I will miss having my parents for company:(

Well I’m going back to the book.

Have fun!

At The Least

It was a very quiet and restful day.

Exercise:

This is the one thing I did well today. I started the day with a 5km run that was one hill after another. I got to start running down a hill but then had to go up the other side. I made it to the top and turned the corner, only to see another steep hill. On the way back, I had the first hill again. I swear this town is trying to kill me with hills!

This is not the steepest one!

I did some yoga when I came back because I was shocked to find out I hadn’t done any yoga in June. Hopefully it will help with my tight muscles!

Finally this afternoon I did a BeFitDavis workout. It was four sets of lateral lunges, squats, static squat with heel lifts, and pulsing plié squats. I then added on knee raises, a plank, crunches, reverse crunches, bicycle crunches, leg drops, heel taps, and scissor legs.

My goal was to do all three activities each day so this was a success:)

Stitching:

I got some more done on my cross stitch project. I cheated on the curtain and did a part that is a different colour so it will be visible.

Knitting:

I had to restart my sweater. I’m just hoping it will turn out well and move along quickly!

Reading:

I could almost swear I am reading Beach Read backwards as it is going so slowly.

That is my whole day- pretty quiet!

Have fun!

Back to Quiet?

My last brother and his family left today so we may just get back to quiet relaxation.

Exercise:

Once again I managed to get out for a run right away this morning. It was literally fifteen minutes from awaking to out the door. I ran out of town as I went the opposite way, so I did a few laps around the local field and then went back how I had yesterday.

I also got a BeFitDavis workout in. It is one I had skipped before because it had lots of jumping in it and I have someone living below me, but not here. It was 45 seconds each of squat jacks, scissor jacks, single knee drives, high knees, and pop jacks. I managed to get through all of them twice before my parents arrived back home.

Family:

My brother, SIL and nephew stopped in this morning. We bonded while shelling crab. 🤣🤪. I always love seeing them so it was a nice visit before they left for the other parent’s place.

Stitching:

I sat down in the sunshine this afternoon with the plan to knit for one hour and stitch for one hour. Unfortunately, I brought everything for knitting but the one page of the pattern that I am on. I will have to look it up tomorrow I guess. I ended up doing about an hour of stitching which was quite lovely:)

Reading:

I am still working on Beach Read by Emily Henry. Scrabble is definitely slowing down my reading.

I am so tired that I think I might be off to bed already🤣

Have fun!

Happy Summer!

I know that summer officially started six days ago, but for me it started at 1:15 today.

Teaching:

I went in at my usual time today, finished cleaning up my class library and sorted some files and then had to sit around bored until my principal finally let us go home at 1:15pm. It really bugs me because most schools didn’t even have to show up today!😖😖😖

Family:

The first thing I did was to call Gus and see if he wanted to go for a celebratory ice cream. We went to Vashti Rose, which even he admits is the best ice cream around! I had a scoop of vegan raspberry pistachio and they put a little of their new vegan Rocky Road flavor on top and they were both amazing! Gus has the maple pecan and the cookies and cream and said they were wonderful too. Callie and Hamid didn’t even charge me for mine- they said it wasn’t happy summer from them. They really are wonderful people!!!

Reading:

After a lovely two hour nap and two loads of laundry I forced myself to finish the book, The Doctor’s Husband by Ann B Harrison. I really didn’t care for this book. The lead female was conniving and unbelievable, the father was stereotypical and not well rounded, everything was way too convenient and who gets married after one date?!?!

Exercise:

I did a BeFitDavis workout of wall sit, side planks, clam shells, leg drop to reverse curl and lying hamstring curls and then added on squats, plié squats, bicep curls and overhead tricep extension.

I’m hoping to do lots of exercise and healthy eating this summer so I can erase June from my body! Mom get the fruit salad and the salads ready!

Well that’s it for me.

Have fun!

It Only Took a Moment

I had a great moment in my day and it was a good reminder.

Teaching:

We read stories, ran, sorted school supplies, did a nature scavenger hunt and did our annual cloud activity. Every year we take the children outside and read the classic book, It Looked Like Spilled Milk and then we have the kids look and see what they see in the sky. I always love what they come up with. Today we had flamingos, hamburgers, dragons, lego pieces, etc. It is a highlight of the year for me.

My sushi lunch that my EA kindly picked up for me.

After I got back from the grocery store I had a message to call a parent. I was worried that she was upset about the report card, but decided to call right away as it’s usually better to not put these things off. It turned out the parent just wanted to thank me for my hard work with her daughter this year. It was so nice to hear as I really haven’t felt like I’m doing very well at either online or in class teaching. It only took that parent a moment, but it really changed my day:)

Cooking:

I left school quickly so that I could get to the grocery store to see if they had ice cream. They did and I made my recipe, but you’re going to have to wait until next week to hear about it.

Knitting:

I am making progress on the sweater I have started:)

Exercise:

I really didn’t feel like doing anything tonight and so just did 8 minutes of abs.

I really don’t have much to report now that I write it out!

But for anyone who read yesterday’s post- I did get my bathroom cleaned today.

Have fun!

Just One of Those Day’s

Ugh- everything I try to do doesn’t work out:(

Exercise:

I met up early with Dennis, but forgot that he can’t go as far as he normally does. We ended up doing 7km and so I had us back too early to meet up with everyone else. I don’t complain though as he was practically running backwards for me last year. We will hopefully know more on Wednesday.

My workout tonight was a BeFitDavis as I just couldn’t get into a movie today. I did four sets of: squat to stand, reverse lunges to rear leg raise, up downs, and plank to down dog. It didn’t seem tough, but anything is better than nothing!

Baking:

I wanted to do my baking challenge today, but I got all the ingredients, except one:( I tried two different grocery stores and neither of them had it:(. I may end up just doing part of the baking challenge this month:(

Knitting:

I was happily knitting away on my toe up sock until I realized it was going to be too big for me:(. I ripped it out. At this point I had a 2.5 hour nap and then started a sweater, which of course I have now started twice.🙄

I think I’m just going to get ready for work and then crawl into bed.

Have fun!

AJ

Almost Back

Today almost felt like an AJ day:)

Exercise:

I had texted Sarah last night and she was up for a run so we headed out in the pouring rain for a quick run to the mill and back. It’s a good thing I was meeting someone as I don’t think I would have gotten out otherwise!

This evening I did a Hallmark workout. It was a minute of jogggng between: squats, reverse lunges, pushups, mountain climbers, weighted sit ups, bicep curls, upright rows, reverse crunches, plié squats, burpees, deadlifts and overhead tricep extensions.

I am really trying to put at least one different exercise each time, but I figure I need the squats and lunges in there for sure to make me a stronger runner.

Reading:

I finished the book Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. I have had this book forever but was very hesitant to start it based on the title. It ended up being a cute, funny book. I admit the end seemed to drag and was a little dumb, but it was still a good read.

It was really nice to have an actual book. I know my kindle app and Kobo are great for traveling or when I’m out and about, but nothing beats a real book.

House:

I knew I needed to do something, but all I got done was my rug vacuumed and the floors swept. I’m going to try my best to do one job a day this week so my house will be tidy and clean by the time I’m on holidays. I wish one of you lived close enough to check that I do this!🤣🤣

Knitting:

I actually picked up knitting again. When I went to get my bag, I realized I hadn’t recorded or shared the quick and easy kerchief scarf I made on my trip last weekend.

Now I have started my toe up sock. It should get me through my travel next weekend, but I need to pick a project to take with me.

Cooking:

I really should have started the baking challenge today, but the only thing I did in my kitchen was make kale chips from some of the kale in my garden. They were really good.

Well, I think that’s it. A lovely, rainy day:)

Have fun!

AJ

Yay Friday!

Oops I guess I was so tired I didn’t even realize I hadn’t posted!

Teaching:

I have to admit I’ve never been this disorganized in my teaching before, but with only two children, it is difficult to be motivated.

We finished our Covid time capsule and our yearbook. We also created a graph about our favourite meal. There were only three of us which didn’t make for an interesting graph so we walked around the school asking classes and random people we ran into in the hall. This actually turned out great because it gave both of these very quiet children the practice of speaking to others. In case you’re wondering, dinner was the most popular meal. We ended the day playing outside.

House:

I was a good person and stopped on my way home to pay my property taxes. I’m getting close to having everything done!

Reading:

I spent a lot of the evening finishing up the book, The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. I have heard this book recommended all over the place and while it was enjoyable, I won’t be recommending it. It really dragged for me and the writing style was just too overblown with details for me.

Exercise:

As soon as I finished my book I knew I needed to get off the couch and do some exercise. I did a BeFitDavis workout as they tend to be shorter. This one was a minute of jogging between four sets of: 25 squats, 25 hip raises, 25 reverse crunch to leg drop, and 25 Superman. Not much, but something.

I did start another book and it looks like I will be done quickly so I’ll tell you about that soon.

That really is all I did and it was so lovely!

Have fun!
