My day was going along just fine until I finished lunch!

Teaching:

This was the big excitement at work today- a new floor in the staff room. $6,000 for a new floor that no one particularly wanted, but there’s no library budget this year:( It’s tough to work with people who don’t have the same priorities as you do!

We did journals this morning. The children had the choice between writing about their weekend and writing about what they would do if they were a penguin. It was pretty cute and showed that some of them have learned a lot!

We did a review of expanded form in math as during the assessment a few of them had problems. It appears only when I’m assessing them as they did wonderfully well today. Maybe being able to write on the board was the magic they needed.

My soup blew up in the microwave at lunch so after cleaning the microwave I only had about a half cup left. My friend Lyndsay came to my rescue with celery and hummus. It was the same hummus I had yesterday so I don’t know why I got so sick after lunch. I couldn’t even draw a full breath because of the pain and I considered coming home early. I just can’t figure it out which drives me crazy!!! I’ve been living on ginger ale all evening.

This afternoon we did a penguin science experiment. We are learning about the three layers penguins have- skin/feathers, trapped air and blubber. Today we coated one of the hands of each child and then they put both hands in cold water. They discovered the hand with petroleum jelly was warmer and the water beaded on that hand. The kids loved it and for such a simple experiment, they will remember it:)

Reading:

I came home right away after school and stared on my ginger ale diet! I read at the same time and finished my newest book, The Ingredients Of Love. It was a very interesting book because of the premise. This woman reads a books that features her and her restaurant in it. She of course wants to meet the author as she has questions, but there’s a mystery there. It’s chick lit, but very enjoyable!

Exercise:

My running buddy was up for a run tonight so I went out with her, but kept it short. We did an easy warm up, then one big hill and three short hills. It wasn’t much, but at least something.

I am on to my newest book from the library, The Hating Game. I’m liking it so far! Oh and if you haven’t heard of it, I highly recommend the Libby app as anyone in Canada or the US can take books out of libraries on this app! It’s awesome!

Have fun!

  1. That’s too bad that your lunch blew up. Losing food is one thing; cleaning up a mess is another. The last time we had a mess in the microwave, I asked tall Nathaniel to clean the back wall of the oven.

    1. Yes I so dislike cleaning up after an explosion! Thankfully it happened in the lower microwave as I wouldn’t be able to do anything in the high one!

  2. Grrr the challenge of those who hold the “purse string” is often mind blowing to me as well you could purchase so many books and even a few tablets with that money. Lame about your lunch, but yeah for cleaning it up. It pisses me off when people leave there mess for someone else.

    1. Yes I get frustrated by both of those things! I spend a lot of time reminding my students that there is no fairy who cleans up after then

  3. I would take the library over the floor any day.
I’m sorry about your soup and upset stomach. 😔
Did you watch March of the Penguins yet?

I bought the sewing machine. 😀 I haven’t taken it out of the box yet though. I need to create a craft corner now. 🤦🏽‍♀️

    1. I haven’t watched that movie yet as I’ll need to go visit someone who has Netflix. Maybe I can talk my co-teacher into watching it for us🤣
Yay for the new sewing machine. I keep mine tucked away in the box and put it on the kitchen table when I need to use it. I just don’t have room for a corner and it forces me to clean up after myself and not let projects drag on forever!

      1. If I put it away it will become out of sight, out of mind, and I’ll never use it!! I still haven’t unboxed it. I’ve been so busy. But I’m getting closer to opening it up. 😃

  4. I made oatmeal for breakfast one day at work and it blew up in the microwave so I didn’t have the biggest breakfast that day. I’ve learned to always use a shorter interval and just microwave it a few times to avoid explosions.

The experiment sounds so fun! I hope you’re feeling better!

    1. I know better with oatmeal, but didn’t even think about it with soup:(
The kids love experiments though I do keep them simple!

      1. I just hate cleaning food in the microwave so I tend to do it with anything liquidy.
Simple experiments can be just as fun and educational!

  5. kids love experiments so much and they learn a lot. they typically are great jumping off points for writing projects too!

I hate when school spend money on things without consulting the teachers. most teachers careless what the break room looks like… give me a place to sit and eat that won’t collapse and I”m happy. we don’t have a lot of time to spend in there anyway!

guess you need to create a stash of lunch things in your room that you can eat if things go wrong?

    1. Yes the experiments are creating a lot of excitement about penguins:)
Exactly! For the ten minutes I spend in the room each day- I don’t care about its looks!
I usually have oatmeal, but ate my last package just before Christmas and forgot to replace it. It’s added to the grocery list for this week!

  6. urgh. Sorry you got sick, and hope you’re feeling better. But the penguin experiment is so cool! What a nice, simple way to help the kinds understand what keeps the penguin dry and warm!

  7. The library is so much better than a new floor – who enriches their mind with a new floor. I hate microwave explosions – they go everywhere and you’re left hungry!

      1. I think I’m on the mend. Thank goodness I got the flu shot this year! Don’t even want to think how bad it would have been otherwise!

  8. Bummer they didn’t put the money toward a new library- but the new floor looks nice! Are you enjoying it?

Aww I loved your prompt about the weekend/penguin!

Soup is such a boogar in the microwave.. that and pasta sauce, haha. But oh my gosh- that is awful about getting sick- are you feeling better? So strange that happened ! Oh, and thanks for the app suggestion!

    1. The floor is fine though we find the room much louder!
I’ve been sick off an on since then so I’m not sure what is going on:(. Hopefully it will clear up soon!
Yup I’ll add oatmeal to the list of microwave disasters!
